This is crazy! I honestly can’t believe I never even wrote down my first impressions of this game, if for nothing else, just to let it be known that this is definitely either the first, or second best steam game that I randomly stumbled upon (it’s a toss up between this and “Betrayer: curse of the spine”) I’d consider both to be the best examples for the term “hidden gems”…and boy do I mean hidden! When I bought this it was about $4, and I felt as if I’d ripped off the developers, at this moment, and for the next few hours, it’s on sale for $1 - There’s not a single game on steam that is more worthy of that $1 price at this moment, so if you happen to catch it in time, and you have enough in your account to cover it with the tax, don’t wait for another sale, now is the time because you never know when Greedy Gabe is gonna get antsy, and start delisting games because they don’t sell enough copies (even though the reason for that is because they have no real quality control system in place, and keep allowing trash to cover up the few great treasures)
But do I recommend this?
Well DUH!

I don't have a ton of time in this, but there's a good reason for that. It blue screened my computer.
I have a pretty good computer and it has run much better than this, so this is just kinda unexpected.
From what I did play it's alright but felt a little annoying to do certain actions like slide down a slope (you'd just kinda fall off every now and then) and especially jump off the slope. So many times it would just kinda not count my first jump and I'd double jump and miss the gap. I normally avoid reviewing with such a low playtime, but wanted to warn people about the instability I faced with this game. Maybe you'll have better luck but just didn't work out for me.
For the price the game is actually a pretty awesome party game with 4 friends. The game type where you are trying to score goals on each other is amazing 2v2 and worth the price of admission alone.
I got it for $3 and it’s well worth that, I would even have paid the full $5 for the game.
Literally only play it for the 2v2 basketball style game, super original gameplay for 4 friends to mash together.
Is it a combat game or a speed and momentum game? The combination ends up being much worse than either would be alone. Also, I didn't notice this until after purchasing in 2022, but this is a game from 2017 that is *still* in early access... that's never a good sign.
A game with excellent feeling movement and platforming that has been unfortunately undermined by a reliance on clumsy action mechanics. The early access period on the store page was estimated to be 6 months but the last update was in mid-2018 with levels and characters still inaccessible and no dev communication since. As such, it seems the game has been abandoned.
This game snuck up on me. I met the chief developer a little while back at a local game showcase and his game was fun and he seemed like a cool guy, so I added it to my Steam wishlist, bought it on sale a few months later, and promptly forgot about it for over 2 years. Now, since I've recently had plenty of time to go through my Steam library (RIP my social life), I've rediscovered what a gem I've had hidden in my library for so long.
The single player campaign is a lot of fun, gradually introducing you to new characters, spells, and ways to fling yourself through the air like a delicate swan (or a crazed flamingo, if you're as bad at video games as I am). The plot is nothing to write home about, but the characters are charming and the worlds are interesting. The game explicitly encourages speedrunning with timers and shadows of your previous runs, and it grades your performance with a scoring system to grade your speed, energy collection, and bloodlust. I had to continually remind myself that in no way am I good enough at video games to attempt getting an S rank on each level, though that didn't stop me from trying on a few of them.
The multiplayer is also super fun! I played a few local multiplayer games with a friend online (thanks, Steam RemotePlay!) and it was like a cross between Smash Bros Melee and Super Meatboy on steroids. It's a heart-pounding, blink-and-you're-dead experience. You constantly have to be making choices between barreling towards your opponent, mashing buttons as fast as you can to rack up that sweet damage, or running off to grab a new spell (or, in certain modes, actually accomplish the game objective). The best part was that my time in the single-player campaign had prepared me pretty well for multiplayer, so I was able to consistently beat my friend even though I am bad at video games.
The bad news? It looks like development's stopped. It's a real shame, because I'd recommend this game to anyone for twenty, even thirty bucks if the single player campaign was complete and there was promise of continued support. Heck, I'd be first in line to buy it again if they released it on Switch. Unfortunately, it appears that will never be.
I still had a grand old time and will probably come back to this game now and again with some buddies. I would recommend it to anyone, just... maybe get it on sale.
8/10 accidental leaps into beds of angry cacti
this game is super cool but underdeveloped. Needs more people to buy and enjoy it so it can get that much better!
This is a good one. The single player game focuses on completion and speed. A little like DustforceDX, not quite as fast paced as Super Meat Boy. It is very entertaining.
The multiplayer is a platform brawler. It is well done, though some of the character's moves aren't that interesting, frustrating even.
There is so much potential here, with a few more characters and another world or two. Unfortunately, it appears development has stopped. For the sale price, this game is more than worth it. It would be worth full price in a finished state, but as for now go ahead and wait for the sale.
the single player maps are awesome..
sonic meets smash brothers.
much fun.
amazing game but its dead but i love it
I love the idea of this game, and it feels really responsive, looks beautiful, BUT< after each level it crashes. SO I WILL NOT Recommend this game until dev's reply to my comment, and let me know when I can play it again.
You have a gem right here! :/ don't lose it due to no optimization.

I'm enjoying this game quite a bit! The game feels very polished for an early access game, so far the animations, character design, enemies, everything feels and looks very nice and it all fits the aesthetic of the game. Gameplay reminds me a lot of Dustforce which I'm sure this game draws influence from, the movement feels very fluid though the slowness following a dash can be kinda jarring.
As for some issues i'm already having with the game, i find it odd that start restarts the level as opposed to opening the menu, like back does, i had to restart two levels already making that mistake, another small issue i had with the game was the second or so it takes to start up again after dying or loading a checkpoint, while it is nice to get your bearings when starting up again I would like an option at least to skip the startup and go straight back into the game to keep things moving, momentum clearly is a major part of this game.
Overall I'd say I'm thoroughly enjoying the gameplay thus far and I'm excited to see what the team can do with their finished product.
Ive barely begun playing this game and already i know this is one of the great ones. Kind of in the same vein as speedrunners, super meat boy and dustforce. This game is about goin fast, trying again and going even faster. Its got fighting mechanics, casual multiplayer and even some really challenging secret hunting making it a good game for a lot of different games. How this game passes anyone's radars i dont know but when this game leaves EA, i think you'll be hearing of it.
If you happen to see this review during the next 2 days (or at any period in the future while the game is on sale), do yourself a favor and just click that add to cart button and buy it. Getting this for 6 bucks is an incredible deal. If you miss the sale, and are wondering if it's still worth it at full price: YES . It most certainly is.
Mystic Melee is a diamond in the rough that is flying well under the radar, and is certainly deserving of more attention - even while the game is in Early Access.
The single player campaign is well-designed, with a nice variety of platforming levels. For those seeking a tougher challenge, each of these levels contains a hidden pickup requiring a keen eye and fluent understanding of the core mechanics to retrieve. In addition to the great platforming sequences, Mystic Melee provides a nice arena combat/smash brothers style fighting stages that are really fun to play. You'll encounter a bunch of different characters that become unlockable as you go, each with their own fighting style and benefits.
I haven't gotten to play the multiplayer at all yet, but I already know I'll be getting sucked into that sooner or later. Anyone who is a fan of the Smash series should definitely pick this one up, as well as anyone who enjoys the challenge of platformers like Super Meat Boy or Remnants of Nazeith.
Lastly, I'd like to give a note regarding the animation and graphic look of the game. It's all fantastic, and it's very clear that the developer has put a lot of time and effort into it. That can be said of the game as whole, really. So, give Mystic Melee a chance. Again, I'm really shocked that it hasn't picked up steam yet, but I truly hope it does, as it definitely deserves some love!
I've been searching for a good and challenging platform game and as soon as I started playing Mystic Melee, I knew this would be the title I was looking for.
The first thing I liked was the plotline. Every single character started their arcs from a different point of the story, making them show us diverse lands of this beautifully crafted world. Also, the graphics fit the style of this game perfectly: they are retro, nostalgic and colorful.
Overall, this was a charming and high-quality title with a smooth gameplay. If you are looking for a true challenge, you should add this game to your Steam library.
I bought this game thinking it was a Metroidvania. It's not. It's like Super Meat Boy, but not as good.
Personally, I do not like the game. I am going to use my Steam refund (Thank you for changing your terms of service Steam!!) and get something that's more my style. I already have Super Meat Boy and I love it. I bought this game thinking it was a Metroidvania, and for that, I am the one that is at fault here.
It's hard for me not to recommend the game because I want to support indie developers, and the game IS well made.
So I will say it like this: I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GAME FOR PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A METROIDVANIA/RICH PLATFORMING EXPERIENCE. IF YOU LIKE GAMES LIKE SUPER MEAT BOY, ONLY WITH COMBAT, THEN THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT A METROIDVANIA, LOOK ELSEWHERE. THIS IS NOT IT.
I really hate giving any game that is well made a thumbs down. So let me reiterate THIS IS A GOOD GAME. IT'S JUST NOT FOR ME!
Mystic Melee is an indie game off to a great start. Currently it's early access but it comes loaded with content already. The first 2 worlds of the campaign are available (not counting what is essentially a tutorial world), as well as a ton of multiplayer options. The platforming is tight and solid lending itself well to speed running. A platformer is all about how it moves and Mystic Melee moves great. Mystic Melee has got me excited for what's to come and I am very excited to follow the development of this game.

Really fun gameplay with different modes that allow you to play the game like you want to. Definitely worth the price.
This game is still quite new to me, and I'm still making progress, so I'll update this review as I go.
I really enjoy this platformer so far. If relevance is something you care about, I would call this a fun hybrid of Super Meat Boy, Shovel Knight, and Duck Game. The writing is hilarious with just enough story to not be distracting from the gameplay.
This is a challenging platformer through and through, but it doesn't suffer from the typical tropes associated with the genre. It's very generous and diversified with it's abilities. For perfectionists, there are also tons of opportunities to try to get to the top of each stage's leaderboards outside of multiplayer, but doesn't obligate you to perform at your best. Just going at my own pace made it fun for me.
Character movements feel like they have weight but various movement options allow for some crazy stunts that the excellent level design capitulates on.
Don't expect a reinvention of the wheel, but for its price point and value, I absolutely recommend this one!
