Описание

Trawl is a first person experiential game of discovery and creativity.

First you must figure out how to operate the various parts of the boat, manipulating the wheel, throttle and the net. Then, trawl the sea to discover what secrets are hidden in its depths and record your findings on your typewriter. The sea has many stories to tell, and will reward multiple voyages.

  • --

Trawl is not a 'gameplay' heavy game in the traditional sense. Trawl takes places entirely on a small trawling vessel, and you are encouraged to engage with the low-key, though detailed ritual of operating the mechanics of the ship, while soaking in the atmosphere. If you so choose, Trawl can be seen as a sort of writing prompt, with you playing the role of sea-bound detective. How you choose to interpret and record the results are up to you.

It is difficult to say definitively how long each playthrough is, as this depends entirely on how much you engage with the game and decide to write in your in-game journal. If you speed-run the game it could be over in less than 10 minutes, though if that is how you intend to play then this game may not be your cup of tea. Most of our players enjoy returning to sea again and again to see what new secrets they'll uncover and then writing journal entries to share with their friends.

If you choose to record your findings on the typewriter, Trawl will save a text file in your Documents/Trawl/ folder.

===

Because of the nature of the game, we're very wary of giving too much away in trailers, so we hope you'll understand that the trailer focuses more on the atmosphere than on the gameplay :)

A lot of the negative reviews for this game are from players that did not understand the concept. Trawl is essentially a solo journaling TTG turned into a video game. If you're already familiar with solo journaling TTGs you will probably enjoy this game, if you are someone that enjoys writing prompts, you will enjoy this game, as Trawl is essentially an immersive and wonderfulyl executed writing prompt.
I love solo-journaling style TTGs and Trawl is a game that takes that concept and executes it beautifully into video game form. It's an enjoyable introspective game, that's an excellent warm up or practice session for writing. Every replay is slightly different and I love typing on the type writer, it's fun and adds another layer of ambiance to the game. The sound and environmental design are all on point. As someone who has worked on actual trawl and dredging boats (albeit to catch fish rather than following an ominous radio signal) this game is close to my heart when it come to all the small details that remind of my time spent on the water. I could gush about how much I love the sound and environmental design, because it really does make me feel like I'm back working a dredge on a boat again. Sitting below deck, listening to the water lap at the hull while crafting a narrative on the type writer is truly a joy. The only downside is length, each play through is relatively short and I wish there was an option to choose session length, or an endless mode to give the player more time to write and develop a narrative but other than that I highly recommend this game esp to anyone that enjoys creative writing or wants to stretch their creativity muscles.

Is this game a joke? It's complete garbage.

You throw a net into the water, and after a while you catch random things. The game claims there's a story, but as far as I could tell there isn't. You can type a note on a typewriter and throw it into the sea, which brings you back to the main menu. I couldn't even figure out how to navigate the menu, neither the mouse nor keyboard works (you have to hit 'enter' to start the game)

That's literally it. I would not recommend this game for free. Look elsewhere.

Experimental Art is certainly not for everyone, especially if it presents itself in form of a "videogame" (maybe calling it "interactive art" would be more fitting).
For me it is always refreshing and inspiring to see such lovely little experiments. This is no exception. It's thoughtful and can indeed be an inspiring ground for creative writing.
Recommended for those interested in the subject.

This game has so much potenail. It could be so much more than blindily moving a helm with a fishing net trailing you. It has a very cozy feeling and a very nice look. Now to get into the bad things. The first three items are very unenjoyable with that unnessicary horn/radio. The waves around the boat are so choppy and constantly high up that it almost ruins the slight emersion. This game could turn into a survival game of sorts where you need to fish for food and go to ports to sell items you find to upgrade your boat and possibly get a new one.
As of right now I cannot recommend this game in its current state and that it costs 7 dollars.
5/10

Once again, it has so much potenial but the developer is holding back big time it seems.

Fun game! I enjoyed my time with it. Could do with a story arc or maybe some narrative. Get's a little repetitive after awhile, but that doesn't mean it's not enjoyable.

Great game for killing a lunch break or a half hour between classes.

Great concept for a casual indie game. Still a few bugs to fix here and there, but that can be said for any game. Maybe fix the framerate. But overall not to bad

Dear Diary

I have been at sea for so long that I have forgotten how land feel underneath my feet. The rocking of the boat at the start made me nauseous, has now become the hand that rocks my cradle. I have lost the sense of time and place, I am unsure how long I have been out here, out here looking, out here repenting.

The mistakes that I have done haunt me, not only in my sleep, but also when I am awake, so I guess this is a fitting punishment that I am going through, searching, looking. Nothing can erase what I have done, nothing can turn back the hand of time, but I have to try, I have to make amends.

If this letter is found before I return, or should I say if I return. I just want to say “I’m sorry”

Trawl is a trawling simulator that evokes your creativity. It's a game that acts as a filler in between life. Whenever you feel stuck in terms of creativity or feel mundane with life, play trawl and see what u can pick up from the sea. Then create a story for yourself and see what comes up!

I like the concept of giving the player a chance to express themselves, but this infuriating typewriter sim doesn't do it well.

The developer says himself that the typewriter is the centerpoint of the game but you literally cannot sit and type anything substantial without setting off a goddamn bell (which is exactly as loud as you'd expect a naval bell to be) that rings unendingly until you go and cycle the trawl, at which point it will be silent only so long as you don't try to write anything on the typewriter, because for some reason theose things are linked in a very un-subtle way.

Meaning you can walk around the boat in silence and stare out at the dark ocean in silence but you cannot sit down and write in silence. It's like a bad halfway-point between really cool existential gaming (where nothing is encouraged or rewarded, and the correct action is always whatever the player chooses to do) and all the other straightforward clearly-defined-goal-oriented stuff. The player that wants to relax and enjoy the experience of creating something is prevented from doing so because the developers decided that the pace at which the player discovers items must be rapid and frenzied.

However it is absurd that the devs are even considering the feelings of the goal-oriented audience in the first place since a game like this would not in a thousand years appeal to the goal-oriented audience.

So here's my advice. Get rid of the fucking bell. Make a light that turns from red to green or something. If you absolutely must put some kind of intrusive trawl-alert, make it one that doesn't interrupt and actively discourage the entire purpose of your game. Also the list that is permanently overlaid on the typewriter pages grows over time, so if you discover too many items you can't see what you're typing anymore. Fix that, too. Oh, and there's a bug where the bell triggers even if you haven't put the trawl out, so you can just sit at the typewriter and write spam and spawn discovered items non-stop.

I paid six bucks for the opportunity to give you my honest feedback so I hope you appreciate it. But I really do like the concept of the game.

To the developers:

Could an option be added to have a functional backspace key? I realize a typewriter doesn't quite work like that, but being forced to have X's all over my writing interrupts my zen.

Before purchasing this game based on the overall user reviews, which currently stands at "Mostly Positive", be sure to note that the majority of positive reviews all consist of people who received the game for free.

That said, I bought this game thinking it was similar to Jalopy. In other words, a game that looks simple but unraveling into something more as you continue playing and trigger a story to unfold. In fact, that's exactly what I thought would happen when my radio blew up after I was chasing the signal.

Here is the thing... that's the last even that happens in the game, and it only takes 2 minutes for that to happen.

Do not purchase unless you get this game for free or you want to waste your money on a unity demo.

This is not really a game. It's more like a tool if you want to be doing some creative writing. I think it is really neat. The way the waves splash around you in the lonely night while you sit down in your cabin writing on an old typewriter! The best part is, that the "game" saves everything you wrote to a folder in your Documents section. Meaning, you can recover the things you write. If you have some money to spend, I absolutely reccomend this game. If you don't like to write, don't buy it.

My video is short and to the point. Not sure there is much more to this game. There is low key and then there is trawl.
I think it is solid but more at the 2 Euro price point. It would be a true thumbs up if it was cheaper or had more (any) story. Its really a one out of two thumbs up from me

I start on trawler
I drive trawler
I drop net over board
I find item
I collect item
I drop net again
I collect item
I drop net again
I collect item
My radio breaks
I write note and throw it over board
Game complete

In all seriousness I know this game is intended to be a make your own story kinda thing from collecting items, but it does get repetitive and after collecting three items I was almost happy my radio broke. The controls were like any other game smooth and the game ran well I just feel like one play through was enough for me and I didnt see $6 value. Ill give the game a thumbs up becuase while the game wasnt for me I can see how some people may enjoy the game and in all honesty it wasnt buggy and did play well.

Anyway check out my video and make up your own mind :D
