Navigate miles and miles of tyre changing, fuel burning, carburettor busting, mud clattering terrain, through night and day, rain and shine. Adapt to whatever the procedurally generated world of Jalopy can throw at you.
Upgrade, maintain and care for your Laika 601 Deluxe motor vehicle. Keep close attention to everything from the state of your tyres, the condition of your engine and even the space in your trunk. Repair each aspect of your scrappy little car and install unique upgrades to deal with the changing world. Everything from cargo weight to the condition of your carburettor will determine how your car performs on the open road.
The rise of capitalism brings an economical conundrum. Scavenge for scraps to make a small return of investment, or become a baron of the open road and smuggle contraband under the eyes of border patrols to make a sizable profit.
Developer Greg Pryjmachuk worked on the Formula 1 franchise from 2009 through to 2014. In late 2014, Greg began work on this new driving simulation featuring the fictional Laika 601 Deluxe car; reminiscent of the East German “Trabbie”, it will need much love and care to keep it going on this memorable road trip!

Do not buy this game, it's unfinished (or at least very unpolished) and no longer being worked on.
That said, it's got some cool ideas and I did like it a lot, but all the problems I had with the game are never going to get fixed or improved.
You can play it through to completion, so in that sense it's "finished". However you'll run into game breaking bugs and a general lack of polish.
A good gamed marred by its somewhat incomplete and buggy existence. As far as I can tell unfortunately this game is never going to receive any further updates. Something apparently occurred between the publisher and developers and now the devs are no longer allowed to work on the game further.
Authentic Trabant user experience. Fittingly it begins in a junk yard.
There is something philosophical about getting emotionally attached to an objectively terrible machine. It sucks, but it gets you there if you treat it right. It's almost cozy.
Very barebones, but the core gameplay loop works well.
What a bummer.
I wanted to like this game.
I own four other janky unity-based car-building/car-driving sims. And out of all the insanity, the jank, the flaws, the lack of tutorial, the car physics, I thought I could get used to Jalopy's physics in a similar way...
But Jalopy's driving mechanics are just... not fun. Your car moves very slowly on the roads, slow for most car sims, hell, it's even slow for how fast 100kmh feels in MSC or The Long Drive. Your car is a VEB Sachsenring Trabant, a car that is so junky that other junk cars would bully it for how junky it is. It breaks really easily, it's engine's fuel is gravity-fed two-stroke, and it's incredibly-prone to damage. In fact, a collision that would barely be a dent in MSC is major damage in Jalopy.
Now honestly, I would've been able to deal with that. I would've been able to deal with slow speed and the fragility of the car, if it weren't for one single, little problem that this game has- a crucial feature of a driving sim that is so busted that it warrants it's own section:
THE STEERING
Jalopy's steering is not gradual. It does not turn the wheel over time, when you press left or right on the keys, it jerks to the left or right by (about) 10-15 degrees. Usually if you barely press the steering keys on a driving sim, it'll turn a little bit, but stop when you let go, Jalopy doesn't do that. When you press the button, it goes in large chunky intervals.
There are many gradual turns and twists in this game that require more-precise and gradual input to actually take, even at the slow pace of this game, but holy crap, the steering makes it completely annoying and not-fun. Even using a controller won't save you from this game's godawful steering. Controller input treats left or right movement like a keypress, not like a gradual pushing of a control stick, it's no different on or off a keyboard.
The steering is so chunky it's freakin' steak-sized, and it expects you to make gradual turns with these controls.
This is why people hate this game.
The Sad Part
None of these issues will get fixed. The publisher apparently has decided to be a douche, took the rights of the game away from the developer, and ran. I don't know the whole truth, but this seems to be the consensus.
I'm bummed at the state of this game. The atmosphere is absolutely incredible, other users comment on the accuracy towards east-european architecture and feel, and the graphics aren't even that horrible, But the bad steering of this game just completely ruined it for me.
It's just a sad shame is what it is.
Why did I buy this instead of my summer car or mon bazou? Am I stupid?
trash game, unstable, full of bugs, dont buy it
its good but its been years since there was anything major that has happened
fun but buggy game its unfortunate that the developer got fucked over by the publisher which forced to stop the development of the game
The game is an well made one you can see the afford put in by the devloper
but since they stopped updating some terrible bugs started to appear.
for an exemple is the map not loading, stores not buying their suppost stock and paint not working
at times, and also the game gets repetive if you dont enough patience.
8.5/10
would do it again! :3
if you like the style of gameplay of this game i recommend checking
the new project of minsworks.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2961860/Honcho
its very fun my only complaint is as your driving and see a box uncle start talking so i cant stop and now my car fell of a tall ditch
It was really buggy on my device for some reason
This whole game is a jalopy...
The Good
Originally caught my interest as a poor man's Pacific Drive. Thought it'd scratch that driving sim itch while having a change of scenery.
The Bad
First of all, the steering doesn't work. Idk if I did something wrong with the car, if there's a glitch that requires me to make a new save file, or if the developers for whatever reason decided that cars don't need to steer? I've read the reviews talking about bad controls but I thought it was just jank from an indie game. I wasn't expecting it to be completely game breaking. Not even an hour in and this thing is already unplayable!
The Ugly
Apparently, the publisher pulled the plug on this game? The last update for this thing was back in 2019 so I guess it's safe to say we won't be seeing anymore polish and refinement (or even fixes to gamebreaking bugs). Shame too because I feel this could have been something... not a great game but at least something like a janky car with some charm to it. Instead, we just have something that will probably just lay forgotten in the scrap yard.
I'm going back to the Olympic Exclusion Zone
love the game, fun and enjoyable. i wish there was a bit more to do like more places to explore, towns to go to, upgrades to get, stuff like that. but it is a very enjoyable game nonetheless
I usually like these types of games, but this one didn't catch me. But for 3 dollars you can't go wrong I guess. I would recommend trying it out for yourself, the atmosphere is pretty hard to describe.
If you always wanted to travel Europe inside an old post-war trabant/lada that always breaks down, this could be the game for you. (If its on sale)
You can upgrade your car, scavenge wrecks for parts, take stuff that randomly lies on the road across borders, disturb sleeping motel guests and enjoy the many bugs the game brings to the table.
Uncle is in for a ride of his life. Literally.
All Jokes aside, it is a fun game. even if the fun might be short-lived, since its got lots of bugs to come by.
Pretty busted game. Already lost all my progress by second play session.
Excalibur suks crusty nuts.
So much unmet potential. Quite a few bugs that can end up soft locking you, purchased things disappearing and saves rolling back to the motel make this game a chore :(
road trips are very fun, although can be boring after an hour or two
i drove. i petrol. i comrade. i recommend.
Pretty good game, buy if u really seem to like it, otherwise the bugs will make it unplayable (which they do, but you kinda get over it). It's unfortunate that there are so many bugs, if it wasn't for that the game would be perfect to chill and drive.
It's just bad. Bad gameplay, bad controls, bad performance, bad graphics, bad sounds.
Got my uncle or something in the car, started it, Drove and Crashed.
7/10
good
Good relaxing car game
Don't use the mods! They just keep crashing the game. You will have to start over and over again
I know that publisher took away the game from devs and killed it, but I still want to leave a review, because devs did a great job. It's unfortunate it's not finished, but it's still playable and addictive.
Had to restart the tutorial four or five times due to soft locking. Had multiple pile ups while just trying to drive, making the roads impassible.
Game handles like LA Traffic.
Wouldn't recommend it in the least.
I learned to drive on these streets
Still buggy after all this time.
Already attached all road tyres and it still keeps prompting me to bring tyres from the garage
e
.
I was forcefully taken on a 3500km road trip and the entire reason for it,WEE WOO SPOILER ALERT, was bc someone died and my uncle WEE! WOO! BIGGER SPOILER ALERT,completely abandoned me at istanbul and left me with my no good very bad trabant, thumbs up,very good
Still the best "Road trip" simulator out there. The atmosphere is unmatched. Only wish is that it was longer.
Not sure what you guys mean by buggy because so far i encountered ONE bug which was 105% my fault.
A small forgiving roadtrip sim which demands moderate resource management. Bugs are easily mitigated by saving and reloading or returning home(which provides free supplies to prevent softlocks).
If you have the patience to play most simulator games, you would probably like this one.
couldnt they just not have black font on a dark background??
I like this game, when it works. The reason I cannot recommend this game is because of how often it softlocks you. 90% of the time I reset is because of a bug. For example: walk through a doorway and close a door too fast? You are now stuck in a wall and have to restart. Did you drive on a road and not hit anything? Every part of your car is now broken and you must restart. (Your car loses durability gradually but I was just driving on a normal road and all of a sudden EVERYTHING just broke all at once) These bugs have ruined this game for me, as I have tried many times to get to the end but some bug forces me to reset my progress. The gameplay is not what makes this game challenging, it's the bugs. Softlocks are around every corner and at this point it is part of the gameplay loop to learn to avoid them.
Jalopy is a game created by the independent studio Minskworks, which offers a unique journey through the post-Soviet country in the 90s. The game combines elements of a driving and survival simulator, where the player will have to drive a Laika 601 Deluxe car while traveling along the roads of the GDR.
In Jalopy, the player has to take care of his car, replenishing it with fuel, repairing and upgrading it to get to the end point. The road trip is filled with various events and tasks, such as chasing bandits, delivering goods and chatting with other characters.
The graphics in the game are made in the style of pixel art, which gives it a special charm and atmosphere. The soundtrack also complements the gameplay, creating an authentic travel atmosphere.
Jalopy is an exciting and exciting adventure that allows players to plunge into the world of car travel and exploration. The difficulty of the game lies in the need to control not only the car, but also the
Devs have completely abandoned the game its too buggy to enjoy unfortunately
i love the drive of just getting to turkey and all together is just an amazing game i was very sad when uncle left me after turkey but it was very fun to play
Boring and buggy.
Jalopy is a fun driving game where you need to take care of your Lada, a beautiful car with issues like no tomorrow. The gameplay of driving around is very enjoyable, and monitoring the condition of your engine, filters, etc., while also grabbing items off the road to sell for cash. However, the moment you finish the game, there is really nothing more to it, with not a lot of replayability.
For achievement hunters, the game is easy to 100%, but there are four achievements that are a bit grindy or annoying. One of them involves driving all the way to the end of the game and back in one session, which will take about 3 hours. The other three involve hitting certain distances on the odometer, with the last one being 1 million kilometers, which is excessive. The game really does not have enough replayability to even attempt reaching that distance (keep in mind that when I completed the game for the first time, I only had 30,000 km). Use the fall-through map glitch if you want to get that easily.
Great game i love it so much its really amazing it just suffers from bugs that werent ever fixed otherwise the amount of content is alright for the price but if you get it on sell thats great make sure to check out the long drive it is somewhat similar to this game
tires keep exploding just like the real thing
Fascinating but flawed game. In particular, the game is pretty solid and relatively bug free up until you reach the end of the first journey, but the bugs start getting really overwhelming once you've completed the trip. The fence posts suddenly rotate 90 degrees and extend out to the horizon, randomly the terrain won't line up properly, and sometimes at checkpoints you can get into a situation where you can't reach the customs officer with your wallet to pay the fines. All kinds of weirdness like this happens on the return trip back. It's still a fun game while it lasts though, and I'd still recommend it.
After you play, go look at a Trabant's engine bay on the net... You think a car wouldn't be built that simply as the one in the game, but...
Nothing I have ever found has been able to capture the magic of this game. If you find something please send it to me. I crave more.
FANTASTIC HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Its a fantastic short game with fun repair and smuggling/ cargo gameplay. Just wonderful
Jalopy is without a doubt a real trip.
