This one was painful.
When i opened the game, I was iffy because like Death and Taxes or Undertale i really didn't know what to expect, but then in my first 30 minutes or so characters started showing, up, and it got really interesting.
Between the goats, and the crows, and the puppet looking guy, the developers did an impeccable job of setting up an amazing story of colorful characters that could have grown into something like Undertale.
Each character was super unique, and I wouldn't stop raving to my friends how interesting this game was, in short, It felt like the story was at a cliff hanger, where all the interesting characters where just waiting to start interacting with each other in or effecting each other in the most odd, insidious, amazing, and just captivating ways.
All the pins where set up, all the devs had to do was knock them down.
I kept playing.
a couple new characters, and some dark magic.
about 2-3 hours later the game ended.
The characters barely evolve throughout the story, and most really don't play a major role. The pig takes you on a side quest, other than that you can see the one boring plot-twist a mile away.
I don't know what happened, i really don't, maybe the developers had to fire someone along the way (assuming this wasn't made by one person), or maybe it was made by one guy who came up with all the plot at the beginning and then handed it over to someone else who didn't understand the story. Either way it just hurt.
If the game wasn't a full 10$ and only 3-4 hours i would recommend it as its still enjoyable, but seeing a game that could have turned out to be incredibly mindblowing just kind of die out sucks, it just sucks.
Like its just hard to describe as someone who has read a lot of story books, seeing so many interesting characters in limbo sucks.
This is why my review is negative, undertale is cheaper, longer, and better, Clone Drone in The Danger Zone, which is more expensive, somehow has a more interesting plot, even Emberknights, which is a roguelite, has more detail.
The characters are nice, and i love the ideas, I just wish that the devs gave their creations a chance to grow, and become something, this really could have been the next undertale.
A great game for a few hours with the inspiring creepy vibe of Silent Hill and Amnesia series.
it's rough around the edges, doesn't have any interesting characters or story, but overall is a simple enough and fun horror puzzle experience
Good stuff
d
really slow and boring. also ugly
Interesting art style and fun gameplay. Not long, but a fun and entertaining story.
The art and story for the game are very solid.
The overall gameplay and horror elements are also very good.
However, you character is very slow and movement is often clunky. Enemies movement is often clunky and they often get stuck and you can get trapped and instakilled very easily. There were often times I needed to get to a room or something but an enemy was in the way and you have to wait until they unstick themselves and wander away.
So it is great if you have patience and are forgiving of the clunkyness. Saving is also only at done at fountains and costs coins which may annoy some people.
I thought goats could glitch into walls and ride jetpacks. Didn’t know they get quirky like this.
10/10 game
awesome pixelated horror game.
although the there isn't a running option, and the main character walks pretty slow.. But, if you can bare through it, it is completely worth it.
the levels are made for slow walking so it isn't a big problem. Play it!
Beautiful and creepy game.
It is significantly shorter than Yuppie Psycho and it also has a lot of similarities. Like both games are really artistic (cutscenes are the best, super pretty, kinda disturbing, really cool), both games have pretty confusing plot (I still can't tell what was the deal with Lucrezia) and both games really similar in terms of pixel graphics.
The Count Lucanor is not very difficult and its pretty easy to figure out most puzzles and avoid most monsters. That being said, it still manages to pull off nice tension (especially when Red Chamberlain is involved). It also has nice amount of endings, though they only vary slightly. The ending itself felt a little bit rushed though.
Overall, I liked the game for the amazing art style and the vibes.
If you liked Yuppie Psycho, this is basically that, but slightly less funny and less good. I liked Yuppie Psycho, and I liked this one, too.
Best game ever
++
Played this after Yuppie Psycho, as I was curious about the developer's other games.
First of all, the bad:
- You'll spend a lot of time simply walking around, like in Yuppie Psycho: but unlike Yuppie Psycho, there's no sprint button.
- Metaknowledge has a massive impact: my first playthrough went on for around 3 hours and reached halfway through the game, then realized I had screwed myself over in a handful of different ways, so I restarted and cleared the whole game within 2 hours.
- Enemies are annoying: bad spawns making certain paths essentially unusable, no real patrol patterns so stealth is just waiting on RNG, unclear detection/aggro range, the goats are so fast you're better off reloading your last save if you wake one up (and to make matters worse, they completely ignore traps)...
- Pretty short, especially if you're not trying to see all possible choices and endings.
Now, the good:
- Like in Yuppie Psycho, the resource management and limited saves work out reasonably well.
- Most of the puzzles are neat.
- The artstyle and general atmosphere are great.
- The candle mechanic is neat, and being able to notice a new trap only because you previously lit up the area feels great.
[*]Attention to detail, there's a lot of completely optional and unhinted stuff you can stumble upon simply because you felt like trying it, from going back home when the goats are chasing you to protecting yourself against trickery before meeting the Count .
Overall, not bad, but Yuppie Psycho is far better.
If you like 8-bit horror games feel yourself at home cause Count Lucanor deliver everything that make goosebumps on your skin. It might feel like cartoony look is not scary at all but the game makes up for it with the right setting and atmosphere which surely is unique for such title. Exploring abandoned mansion is interesting and plot surely will engage you for some time. But be aware as there're monsters lurking in the shadows! Recommended for people who like simple yet interesting and somewhat creepy adventure.
It doesn't work for MacOS despite what it tells you! 🤯
You know how some games on Steam have that orange *Notice* that says "This product is not compatible with mac... 32-bit... etc."? Normally I just open it and the game works anyway, this one does not. All I got has a white screen of death, with the music playing for like 10 mins.
I'm sure it's an awesome game & if/when I can get a PC I'll probably play it (I loved Yuppie Psycho) but for know I'm posting this review in case anyone needs to know before spending money 🫡
好好玩但是好吓人哭
It's a cute short puzzle horror game. Good for an afternoon.
Now this, THIS is horror.
10/10.
You will very likely die a few bullshit deaths, yes.
Will it be scary?
yes
Sound design : 10/10. The monsters are terrifying. Some of the noises they make genuinely give me a physical lurching reaction that still gets me, even on repeat playthroughs.
Story: 10/10. Everything that the game builds up is well-designed and well-set up to the point where you can figure out super secret things on your first playthrough if you *REALLY* want to.
The game's gameplay loop and puzzles are fun to think through. The easier puzzles rack your brain for at least a few moments and some of the harder puzzles are thankfully either not necessary or have multiple ways of solving them, to really drive home the fact that the world is a scary place.
Buy this game if you want to be scared, even after you finish the game and press alt + F4.
Lots of fun!
:EISBEIN: i waited 2hrs with game in background to unluck that and the other nice emoticons hahahaha
if this get's more than 50 likes and 5 awards i will start streaming on twitch finally :D
bom
A poor kid tells his mom to sod off because she can't afford a birthday party for him, leaves his home to become a rich adventurer—and runs straight into a visceral supernatural horror scenario. My playtime is this horror adventure's entire length, and every minute was worth it. Great visuals, incredible aesthetics, very good writing, and quality game design throughout.
The soundtrack is just borrowed music (Bach in this case), which I don't like because some of those pieces are grander works than this entire game tbqhwy, but at least the choices are tasteful.
amazing game, its like a horror rpg maker but better
My wife said if this review gets 50 likes and 5 awards, she will buy a case of beer, guys help me out.
