features:
- Killing is unnecessary: negotiate out of danger using the unique battle system.
- Time your attacks for extra damage, then dodge enemy attacks in a style reminiscent of top-down shooters.
- Original art and soundtrack brimming with personality.
- Soulful, character-rich story with an emphasis on humor.
- Created mostly by one person.
- Become friends with all of the bosses!
- At least 5 dogs.
- You can date a skeleton.
- Hmmm... now there are 6 dogs...?
- Maybe you won't want to date the skeleton.
- I thought I found a 7th dog, but it was actually just the 3rd dog.
- If you play this game, can you count the dogs for me...? I'm not good at it.

At first i thought that i wouldn't like this game but then i finally got the game and the lore the characters are amazing even the boss fights are really good highly recommend this game! Thanks Toby!
Undertale is an amazing darling indie title. Its story is truly one of the best that I have seen portrayed in a video game. I highly suggest going into this game blind, or knowing the bare minimum, as it adds to the experience. Every character is written well, and the whole game is genuinely a masterpiece. This is one of the best video games I’ve ever played, and I would recommend to anyone who loves classic styled games, RPGs, and even platformers.
Good Story Telling You Can Also Get A Good Guess Of what The Characters Sound Like With there Difrent sfx For Speaking Very Fun Bosses And Slow Paced Gameplay if you want it to be
Przez tą grę wiem że można pierw coś brutalnie pobić, ale jak się to przeprosi i pocieszy to wszystko jest OK.
Play when you're bored. If you've already caught up with the story, wait until you forget the entire lore and replay it. Awesome game
If I had access to all of the paper, pens and pencils in the whole world, I would never, ever, EVER be able to write down in clear words the amount of emotional impact this game has had on my personality, my loved ones, and my entire life. Believe me, I have tried, in a long email I tried sending to Toby that he probably never read. This game is so strangely beautiful in a way I would never ever have expected from my first exposure to it. I mean this when I say - UNDERTALE will always and forever be my favorite video game ever created - and that is an understatement. I. LOVE. UNDERTALE.
One day, I'll get 𝓫𝓮𝓹𝓲𝓼 tattooed onto my chest.
stop reading the reviews and buy the game
Great game, shit community.
Best soundtrack ever. Story is also very good. idk why but i like the pixel graphics. Everyone should play this game atleast once.
AMAZING GAME
I really liked the story, characters, gameplay and the unexpected turns this game took, and that's only by finishing one ending!!
Can't wait to try more endings.
I really recommend this game it's so good. and cool.
and Mettaton <3
Sorry Undertale haters ( which Is No one because this game is one of those game Which You Possibly Can't hate on ) I Could not give this game a low review, Lowest I could Give is a 10000000000000000(With lots of Zeros) out of 10. I Bought this on a sale it was for like 0.99 cents I would Refund and Buy the Game with the whole prize if Its possible This game is TOO GOOD! well Enough don't continue reading Reviews Just play the Game already!!
In 2015 I was in 5th grade and found this game and got really into it, I had no way of playing it.
It may have taken 10 years for me to beat the game, but it was so worth it...
thank you
As a kid born with Devil May Cry, GTA, Resident Evil, and God of War, I never thought that text-based games like Undertale would be my kind of game. The simple graphics and heavy focus on story didn’t appeal to me at all. Plus, my English wasn’t great at the time, so I had no interest in trying it.
But eventually, many years later, I gave it a shot. And at first, I hated it; sorry about that, but for me, there was too much dialogue, which is technically still acceptable if most of the dialogue did not feel unnecessary and didn’t seem to affect the story.
To clarify, if you're the type of person who loves diving deep into character backstories (such as learning about their favorite foods), you'll probably enjoy this aspect. But if you are that type of people who don't give a damn about other people's business (like me), sitting through their stories feels like pure torture as every time they open up, I will be like, “I don’t freakin care about what food you like to eat or what sport you prefer to watch, just tell me how to get the hell out of this damn place!”
However, as I played more, I realized that these little conversations gave the characters real personality, making the world feel alive rather than dull. This is when the magic begins; the more you play, the closer you get to each character. But still, if you really don't care about them, it's just putting useless information into your brain.
The combat was another surprise. It looked like a bunch of mini-games, but it actually required skill and attention. The game balanced story, dialogue, and gameplay better than I expected.
Still, I found it a bit too simplistic for my taste. The game relies heavily on reading, so this might not be for you if you’re not a fan of lengthy dialogues.
Relying on reading is one thing, but the worst part is that stories lacked major twists or surprises, making the overall experience feel predictable, resulting in whatever you read becoming unnecessary information. I know this game has multiple endings, but that's not the point. The real issue is how predictable it is—"kill = bad" is way too simple. Games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls do it better, where choices aren’t clearly right or wrong, just shades of gray. Your actions don’t always lead to expected outcomes, and there’s no moral scoreboard judging you.
While it wasn’t my favorite, I can see why people love it—it’s unique, charming, and different from most games I’ve played.
if you haven't played this after almost 10 years and somehow haven't been spoiled yet just play it its one of the best games of all time. and play deltarune after too just trust me.
This is literally one of the best games I've ever played, and has influenced my taste in gaming and writing FOR YEARS. If you want an emotional, funny, and engaging story, PLEASE PLAY. It's not even that long of a game, and it's so worth it.
Thank you, Toby Fox, for one of the best games I've ever got the pleasure to experience. I'm so excited for Deltarune.
Not for Me, but I get the Appeal
Undertale clearly has an insanely dedicated, cult-like following for a reason, but I don’t think I was the target audience for this game. I found some of the themes really strange and uncomfortable, and the rest of this review will probably be more subjective than anything else. Personally, I had a really bad time, and if it wasn’t for the amazing soundtrack and the game’s popularity, I wouldn’t have slogged through it or even spent the dollar I did during the last Steam sale to pick it up.
This game is really weird. Most of the characters were annoying and a lot of the humour just wasn’t for me, I also found the dialogue really tedious to get through at times. I had a handful of favourite characters that I really enjoyed, but they weren’t enough to make me actually care about the cast. The game’s writing clearly resonates with a lot of people, but I just wasn't feeling it. For context, and for those who’ve played the game before, I apparently ended up with the Papyrus ending. This might be why I didn’t enjoy the story as much? If I ever return to the game and try a different ending, I’ll update this review with my new thoughts on how it changes the experience and if I liked the game more.
Gameplay-wise, this game just wasn't doing it for me either. There were some really cool gameplay mechanics and concepts, but you can’t change the controls or any of your settings, which made the game feel really clunky. Maybe it’s a skill issue on my part, but I kept fumbling over the different buttons because I’m not used to primarily using my right hand for actions not related to my mouse, so it felt really uncomfortable.
I can understand why people like Undertale, but I just can’t relate. I went in basically blind, tried my best to keep an open mind, and still had a bad time. That being said, the one thing I absolutely loved was the music. The soundtrack is incredible, and the sound design was on point the entire time. It was easily the best part of the game for me and I'll for sure be listening to it more often on different platforms.
My recommendation overall? If the fandom and memes interest you, this is probably your type of game. If you’re looking for some weird, cryptid, fever-dream experience, you’ve found it. But if you want something immersive and serious, I don’t know if I can recommend it.
Personal Overall Experience: Disappointing - 3/10
Good music, good story, good gameplay!
I discovered Undertale through its amazing soundtrack on YouTube. At first, the game didn’t seem like my type, but I gave it a try during a sale—and it blew me away! The story, gameplay, and music are all top-tier. An unforgettable experience!
Best RPG of all time. Music is perfect, story is great, game is 10/10.
i like the gameplay and good story and one of the best games i ever played

Beautiful. This was my first time playing the game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters are well written. They made me laugh, they made me cry, they truly captivated me. The music for the game is probably some of the best I've ever heard, and listening to a lot of the most popular tracks in game after hearing them in videos and content all over social media was very satisfying. And the story...oh my goodness...it broke my heart and then just as easily put it back together. I regret not being able to play this way sooner, and I won't lie, I had some negative opinions about the game at first, but I'm very glad I gave it an honest chance. This will stick with me for years to come. 10/10 <3
I remember the very first time I played undertale, i had no PC nor any console, so yeh, i played it emmulated in my cellphone (sorry toby fox) but lemme tell ya, i still remember the first time i finished the neutral run and my eyes started glowing. The story, the characters, the everything!
This game changed my life, it was the first time i could see how bad of a person i was and it made me change. Unironicaly I am a better person because of this game. All my love for you, Undertale.
Undertale is a unique indie RPG that blends classic turn based combat with innovative bullet hell mechanics, allowing players to choose between fighting or peacefully resolving conflicts.
The game’s story, soundtrack, and character development are nothing short of a masterpiece, creating an unforgettable emotional journey. I played through the Pacifist, Neutral, and Genocide routes, and each one left me with a completely different feeling ranging from warmth and joy to guilt and sorrow. Few games make choices feel this impactful, and Undertale does it brilliantly.
I highly recommend playing it,this is the best indie RPG I've ever experienced.
8.5/10
wow. just wow. what a beautiful game this is. i've only done neutral and pacifist route. i do not want to do genocide, because i feel bad, but wow, what a beautiful game this is.
The graphics might not be the best when compared to other games but the story is very good the choices you make throughout the story will have an impact on the ending unlike other AAA RPG games. This is a very unique game with a different twist on combat. The puzzles were quite interesting and there are a decent amount of clues that can help you solve them. For 99 cents, this is a great deal and I highly recommend that you get the game and try it out.
Playing undertale again fills me with determination. I have this game on CD but I couldn't resist buying it on steam too. Time to finish it again. (and for adorable emojis) This is a game that changed my life completely. When I was just a kiddo I wished to experience this adventure, I spent countless nights imagining that I'm part of this world. I made fanarts, I did roleplays with friends I was so invested in a crazy but beautiful fandom. This game really changed my lonely childhood, It really filled me with hope. The soundtrack is so nostalgic, It's breath taking. I'm almost an adult but I still find that little part of me that wishes this game was real. It's really one of the best games I ever played. I will cherish it forever I recommend it to everyone.
UNDERTALE
Gameplay: 5/10
Story: 7/10

I had heard about Undertale from everywhere—it was on my wishlist for a long time. I finally bought it during the 2025 Spring Sale when its price dropped to just 99 cents, a deal I couldn’t pass up. Based on the overwhelming praise, I expected a story unlike any other. But for most of my playthrough, I didn’t understand the hype. Up until the second-to-last level, I felt let down—the story seemed good, but nothing groundbreaking.
Then came the final level. My perspective changed completely. What a masterpiece.
The last fight was the most difficult part of the game, pushing me to my limits. Even now, I wake up in a cold sweat, haunted by the music, the laughter, the sheer intensity of it all. The experience was unforgettable.
Undertale doesn’t rely on flashy graphics—it’s a pixel-art game with incredibly simple controls, so intuitive that even a child could play. But the music? Absolutely phenomenal. The characters? Deep, memorable, and full of personality. Out of all of them, Sans won my heart. The beauty of this game is that you don’t need a guide or prior knowledge. You just dive in blind, and your choices shape the outcome. No two playthroughs are the same.
The two most talked-about endings—the Pacifist and Genocide routes—sit at opposite ends of the spectrum. While the Pacifist Ending delivers a heartwarming conclusion, the Genocide route was my favorite. What a brutal, yet poetic way to end the game.
No matter how you play, Undertale is a one-of-a-kind experience. The story runs deep, with three main routes and countless variations depending on your choices. If you’ve never played it, take this as your sign—buy it, go in blind, and let the game leave its mark on you.
A game I wholeheartedly recommend. 8/10.
It's a great game, with a good story, and the option to really choose your own path in so many ways. I've known about this game for a long time, and finally bought it March 15, 2025. Worth it.
Humor at it's peak. I don't know why but it's just really. really. funny. The story seems pretty interesting. I haven't played that far in yet. Music is also great. All around just a good game. Happy i caught it on a super sale.
Blue stop signs.
great gameplay, amazing ost, overall amazing storyline
Holy game, I love Undertale, I downloaded it like 6 years ago, but I lost that Steam account, bought Undertale again because it is just THAT good. If you haven't played Undertale yet do so now, because It only costs a dollar and is definently worth more than 20. Play it, enjoy it and after play Deltarune.
One of my all-time favourites. A lot of games have touched my heart over the years but I don't think any of them can hold a candle to the feeling i had when i beat this game for the first time. Ever since then, I've basically been SUBMERGED in the depths of this game's insanely passionate fanbase and incredible fanworks for like, 9 years now LMAO. A beautiful work of art and a monument for indie games. If I could meet the small white dog that made this, I'd give it lots of pats, and a big hug <3
I've owned this on PC since original release, long before it was available on Steam. I can't give enough kudos to Toby and his super talented team. The storyline is immersive with memorable characters and moments that will tug at your funny bone and your heartstrings; if you appreciate cheeky humor, this is the game for you. The choices you make as you navigate the story WILL have effects later that could potentially change the entire tone of your experience, unlike a lot of games that may claim it. This also adds to its replayability in a way that I won't spoil for those who haven't tried it yet.
The soundtrack is very catchy and fitting to the story. The main characters have their own theme, which adds to their memorability. Battles and boss fights have music that get you hyped up to engage. Each area's theme is fitting to the aesthetics and scenery. The composers behind this game knew what they were doing and were a perfect fit with Toby to create such an awesome game.
I find myself wandering back for replay every so often. This game has a very special place in my heart, especially since I am a total sl*t for a rich story. So yeah. Just go play it for yourself. You won't be sorry.
Great game. What's even better is I recently found out that it's actually just a metric shit ton of if statements in the source code - 10/10.
masterpiece of an indie game. from the moment you step into its pixelated world, youre met with charming characters, a gripping story (where its finally worth reading the dialouge) and a combat system. amazing soundtrack and writing, the game reacts to your choices and it makes you question what kind of person you want to be. its kinda hard to get into the keyboard controls first but still its so worth experiencing this journey.
If you are a fan of good storytelling, unique gameplay mechanics, emotional depth, and regretting life decisions, than Undertale is a must play game for you.
It seems like the game's graphics sucks when first playing. But after you exit ruins(a part of the game) it greatly improves. The soundtrack is one of the best ever. Story is to much fun. One of the best games i have ever played. Buy and play if you can.
This and Deltarune (Undertale's successor) are the only games that have managed to make me cry, and all i do is play video games bruh. Its my all time fav game with fun game play and the most amazing story ive ever seen.
I recommend this to anyone, it is really fun, the different endings make the game even more interesting and the way that Omega Flowey takes control, Chara curses your game after beating genocide (if you don't remove the files for that), even if you don't really like RPG games, this is fun for anyone (or atleast most people).
its actually kinda good, do true pacifist route and not kill anyone, you get cool boss fight asriel dreamer
Game is a classic, easily worth playing for the soundtrack alone
this is one of the best games i've played it has excellent music, characters, story and makes you feel attached to the characters. the only sad thing is you can't get enough of the game like there is a yearning to expierence more game
yeah so iv'e played a lot of story games i mean really good story games but...but this game is wonderful just wonderful i even think that red dead redemption 2 compare to this game.
Undertale...
Where do I even start with this game? I feel like this is the type of game that everyone who loves video games has heard about, but not everyone has truly played. Sure, you might’ve seen the memes, the fan art, the endless discussions about the “pacifist” route vs. the “genocide” route, but it’s the experience of actually playing it that hits you in a way that no amount of spoilers or reviews ever could. Like, yeah, it’s a game, but it’s also way more than that. Undertale is a journey. And a damn good one at that.
Look, I’ve played my fair share of games. I’ve had my emotional moments. The highs, the lows, the victory, the defeat. But Undertale did something that no other game has ever done for me: it made me feel like my actions actually mattered. I’ve never been forced to think so much about my choices in a game. Do I spare this monster? Do I show them kindness, even if it’s just a few words? Or do I give in to my darker impulses and kill them? The fact that the game forces you to live with those choices, that no matter what path you take, the consequences hit home… it’s just something that so many other games miss. Most games don’t ask you to actually feel the impact of your actions. Undertale does. And that’s what makes it stand out.
It’s not trying to WOOOW you with high-end graphics or flashy cutscenes. Hell, the visuals are super basic, the characters are pixelated, but it doesn’t need all that. The real strength of this game lies in how it uses the medium of video games to tell its story. You’re not just a passive observer. You’re the one pulling the strings. The characters aren’t just there to look pretty or be generic NPCs — they have personalities, desires, fears, and they react to you. The whole game feels like it’s speaking directly to you, and that’s a rare thing to find in modern gaming.
The humor, the heartache, the twists — it’s all woven together so perfectly that I was laughing one moment and then tearing up the next. Undertale knows how to balance its tones, something a lot of games can’t pull off. It’s not just about having a good story — it’s about how the story makes you feel, and Undertale nails that in a way that very few games do.
And the best part? You don’t need to play this game with any kind of guide or prior knowledge. Just dive in and let it take you wherever it wants to go. Every playthrough is different, and no matter how you approach it — pacifist, neutral, genocide — there’s something valuable to learn, something profound to experience. It’s not just a game. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve turned off the console.
If you’ve somehow never played this game, do yourself a favor. Play it. Go in blind, with no expectations other than to see what unfolds. I promise you, this is a game that’s going to leave a mark on you. It’s the kind of game that makes you think about what it means to be human, to have choices, to live with the consequences. A true masterpiece in every sense. 10/10, and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I played Undertale in September 2015—a few days after it came out. It's now been a decade since, yet its place as my favorite game and piece of media of all time has never been close to shifting. I continue to be inspired by it in every aspect of my life, the ramifications of what I experienced back then changing the trajectory of my life for the better time and again. I would not be the same person without Undertale. Thank you so much, Toby and the art crew, for how you have influenced my life.
Fittingly, Deltarune—as this game's successor in many ways—is the only thing to contend its spot so far. I do believe, however, they'll end up sitting side by side; two magnificent, touching artpieces, similar yet unique, elevating each other and pushing me onward to a brighter future together.
A game so great that it needs no reviews.
There's virtually nothing i can say that you haven't already heard. It has great story and a bunch of various lovable characters. Not only that but i also has a bunch of cool stuff and secrets that make it worth replaying to try and see everything to offer.
wanna buy an Undertale? it's only 10G.
This game will leave you in despair, It'll build you up only to tear you down. Don't let its charming appearance fool you. This game Is hell. 11/10
this game is highly good in story/lore, and gameplay
