Cool arcade game to play in short sessions. Every room is filled with reference to horror movies of the past with the main hero being a surrogate for Reggie of Phantasm. Get it.

I'm usually not a fan of arcade beat-em-ups but for some reason I was really addicted to this game for a while. Not entirely sure why. If you really like the theme and art and would like to spend a few hours trying to save everyone, give this a whirl. It isn't expensive either.
I really like the art, the concept, the references and I'm even kinda partial to the game's overall arcade feel, but there's a lot of grinding and it feels like it was designed to be won with the trophies from grinding. It's more like an hour-long diversion prolonged by its difficulty (which to be fair, is a classic arcade trope).
My Night Job is a game meant to be played quickly. The goal is to escort one hundred people out of a mansion swarming with B-movie monsters, a task made harder by your need to find weapons on site - fighting the legions of the night with your bare fists is possible, but not recommended. That by itself would not be too hard. However, the player also needs to manage the monster population, as fiends in an overcrowded room can attack the mansion itself, eventually causing it to collapse if they wreck too many rooms. Since there's no way you'll ever be able to keep all the rooms clear, you need to play this game efficiently.
This is a deceptively simple game - basic mechanics, but demanding more tactical thinking than it looks at first glance. It's also a very difficult game, one most appropriate for people who appreciate old-school arcade hard. It will probably take a few games to get a handle on it while you figure out the layout of the mansion and the locations of various weapons, but after that it becomes an interesting challenge.
A retro (early-mid 90s) inspired beat-em-up with a horror theme.
For the low price of entry I enjoyed this ride. Not something i'll play for hours on end but once in a while i'll load it up and play a round or two.

This game feels like it comes right out of the SNES/Genesis era. It's got a GREAT arcade feel, but is surprisingly deep in subtle ways. There are secrets and mysteries you can uncover that enrich the experience. You can tell the people who made the game were doing something they were passionate about. I think every small dev could learn a lot from this game. I hope that one day they consider making a sequel as there are some concepts that could definitely be expanded upon, such as adding new characters, new levels, or maybe play with some randomizing elements, etc. As it stands it's a stellar title with a charming style.
This game is fun. It's got lots of references and easter eggs, has short tense gameplay (you should finish a game in half an hour), and ... I dunno, something else good. Rule of 3 and all that.
The core gameplay involves juggling your need to rescue civilians (a must), keep the monsters from destroying the house (or you lose), and staying alive. It creates a pretty compelling challenge.
It has it's issues, it is often difficult to know what or how to do something. For example: after rescuing the 100 civilians I was given C4 to plant (to destroy the house, but yes, letting the monsters destroy it will still lose the game. *shrug*) but I didn't know where to plant the C4 and so I lost because I spent too much time wandering around and the game doesn't give you much breathing room. The game also doesn't tell you where to use the key, or what to do with the ghost collecting slimer (ghost busters reference).
There's also a lot of references and details you might want to enjoy, but the game doesn't really let you have the time to explore. I guess 'there's too much good stuff to see and not enough time' isn't the worst criticism I've given a game, but there it is.
In short, the game is fun and it's cheap.
It's a goofy little side-scrolling beat-em-up about rescuing people from an absurdly haunted mansion. Aesthetically, it's quite similar to what I've seen of the Metal Slug games with lots of colorful, cartoony, well-animated pixel violence. Goddamn hard, but fun and funny. For $4, I'd recommend a lot, and this clears that low bar quite easily. Definitely worth at least a little of your time.
In many ways, this game reminds me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but this is clearly not ZAMN.

You have to run from room to room taking out all kinds of wacky monsters that are trying to destroy the house while you round up survivors. If they destroy too much of it, you lose. If you die, you lose. Pretty straightforward, but it's surprisingly hard.
To be honest I'm not sure this game deserves a positive rating. Kudos for the gajillion horror-movie references but in all honesty what the heck is going on in this game? You're the bald guy from the Phantasm movies and you're watching TV and see some soldiers with gas masks then a dollar sign pops up and you're in a mansion full of various horror movie monsters rescuing random people and fighting the monsters with random objects in melee fashion... ok but can we get a little more explanation? He's hired to do this? What organization is this? Why are there random people in a house filled with various Hollywood monsters? What the hell is the goal other than just randomly grabbing people for rescue? I haven't progressed to a next level, is the entire game this just one building? Honestly the fact that story and background and really no objective is given or instructions on what to do to complete a level (if there even are and it isn't literally just this same house every time) really bug me. Also if I'm going to fight a horde of monsters while trying to protect a wave of people following me I've supposedly rescued, can you throw me an AK47 or something instead of a footlocker? I really don't get this game. But it's not awful enough to warrant a negative review, but I'm not sure it's really good enough for positive. Make what you want of it, I don't get it.
It's a lot of fun. Definitely don't play if you want an easy, or to win at all for that matter. Requires you to play/think a bit more tactically that your standard beat'em up. Lots of fun!

If you are... differently young... you will love this, but I strongly recommend this for everybody!
The pixel art is nice but.. the game view gets too crowded at times, very annoying to play when you cannot see much.. too many enemies at once and your character gets lost among them.. I am sorry.

Horribly addictive, incredibly well made, ridiculously fun and VERY challenging! Your primary goal is to save all the victims but you won't get far without weapons and keeping an eye on the rooms provides just enough challenge to ramp up the adrenaline without feeling like the game is being cheap. LOVE it!
Fun little beat 'em up game that can get hectic (which I liked) at some times when you rush through the house to prevent a room from being demolished.
You can beat the game rather quickly (took me an hour, that is 4 attemps) and from then on it's achievement grinding or getting the highscore. So this might not be for everyone.
I would have loved to see some little upgrade system either ingame (maybe let rescued survivors count as points) or in the style of Rogue Legacy. This would encoure me to spend some more time with the game.
I might pick it up again in the future if I have 20 minutes to kill.
I you are not entirely sold on the idea of this game, I'd suggest waiting for it to go on sale.
Fun pixelated beat em up/save them all game that is just dripping with horror movie influence.
Honestly as much fun as the game is, my favorite part about this is isn't the gameplay. It's all the homages to 70's and 80's horror. From evil Dead to Little shop Of Horrors, to something that looks like Terminators on acid. There is a ton going on the the background to see as well. As fun to watch as it is to play.
I could have used a bit more variety, because as it is it seems like it's just one identical level to play in so repetitiveness could become an issue after enough play.
Still, its quite fun. I def recommend.
Overall I really enjoy this game! The art style, refrences to horror media, and constant action make it really enjoyable. The game gets pretty challenging and forces you to make some tough choices on pathing throughout the mansion and when to do certain things, overall really fun. If you are interested in seeing some gameplay, below is my run that at the time was the second highest score in the game.
