However, as the secrets behind Chairman Shiro’s new “Promotion” program becomes clear, the reality gets much more complicated. Does it really grant immortality? What is Eden truly collecting? It seems that Eden’s corporate veneer may be just a thin facade for something much, much worse.
Built from the ground up for virtual reality, Raw Data’s action combat gameplay, intuitive controls, challenging enemies, and sci-fi atmosphere will completely immerse you within the surreal environments of Eden Corp. Go solo—or team up with a friend—and become the adrenaline-charged heroes of your own futuristic technothriller. You will put your wits, boldness, and endurance to the test.
Active VR gameplay turns you into a controller, with instant reflex access to an arsenal of advanced weapons and cutting-edge nanotech powers. Shared spaces with avatars and motion tracking encourage players to physically communicate through body language and environment interaction.
Cool Features
- Active VR Combat: Utilize your body to dual wield pistols, slash and slice katanas, pump shotguns, deflect projectiles, do gun tricks, or even use your fists in close-quarters combat. Holster up and pull weapons off your body with physical loadout and check your stats on the in-game forearm display.
- Hostile Takeover PvP: Whatever side you’re on, this fight is personal. Featuring four hero classes with optimized abilities, balanced gameplay, intuitive “joystick” locomotion, as well as stealth and armor powerups, Raw Data: Hostile Takeover lets you battle it out in up to 5v5 matches across multiple king-of-the-hill maps. Duel Mode (coming soon!) also provides a unique 1v1 showdown experience for those who are bent on revenge.
- Choose Your Hero: What’s your fighting style? Choose from multiple badass heroes--Bishop, the Gun Cleric; Saija, the Cyber Ninja; Boss, the Street Merc; or Elder, the Rogue Hunter --with a variety of advanced weaponry, special abilities, combat techniques, and ultimates. Defy gravity, slow down time, charge up shots, crush enemies, boomerang your blades, unleash deadly bullet barrages, fling enemies into the air, and much more.
- Deadly Weapons and Defenses: Access a futuristic arsenal of firepower, from dual handguns and pump-action shotguns to iron knuckles and laser swords, as well as deployable turrets and holographic shields for extra insurance.
- Adaptable Enemies: Battle against swaths of murderous machines, including stealth ninjas, laser gunners, rocket heavies, jumping crawlers, exploder bots, flying drones, charger mechs, ion beams, towering megabots, and more.
- Cross-Platform Online Co-op: Bring along a trusted partner to cover your back no matter what platform they’re playing on. Team up in a shared co-op VR space that encourages social communication via body language, facial expression, and blended animation.

For Meta Quest owners, Steam Link does not work. The game crashes. BUT you can get around this by using the Meta app and it does work wirelessly through that. But I absolutely hate using the Meta app and prefer the Steam Link, so this is not a true solution. But wanted to mention this for any others out there. I'm playing on a Meta Quest 3 and got it to work.
The gameplay is honestly pretty boring. I have done the first two missions and it just felt like...that's it? But this is a game from 2017, so that makes a bit of sense. Though, the graphics are pretty good for being a 2017 game, I will give them that.
As others have said, this game has been abandoned by the developer and that shows for us Meta Quest owners. I got this game for under $10 in a sale, so I'm not too bothered by it.
I loathe the controls and tutorial. I am SICK of VR games that force you into teleporting and snap turning. It is such a turn off and this game will not let you turn either off without first playing through the useless tutorial. And they will let you skip a part of the tutorial, but then the game keeps bugging you about "aRE yOU sUrE?!?! yOu hAVen'T CoMPleTed tHE tUTOriAl!!" Such a nag...I prefer to play a game and figure it out for myself in my own way, and especially with my desired controls.
I have to mention that even with the snap turning off, the game has this very obnoxious hologram on the floor that wants you to physically face one direction. So they REALLY want you to use the analog stick to turn which makes zero sense in a VR game that is about hordes of enemies. It's ridiculous. I have to move a finger just to turn. Granted, the hologram arrow is near the bottom of the screen, so it's not too noticeable, but it becomes noticeable sometimes and can be quite distracting.
I am very frustrated after having to jump through hoops to get it running and then be bothered with hand holding, but I plan to get back in the game later this week and keep playing.
But for now. Yeah, I do not recommend this game for most players, especially those of us who love VR games.
Played using a Meta Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop.
Note: The game feels odd for the Meta Quest controllers, but I'm someone who prefers smooth turning and natural locomotive movement over teleportation. Since there also seems to be no mechanical ability to turn in game, one has to rely on physically moving. If there is a setting to fix this problem, I'd love to be informed about it.

I have finished the first two missions of this title and it hasn't been the worst VR title I've played. A few things that confused me is actually getting the training mission tutorial to start in the main hub area your player starts in and goes to after missions - I have still not completed that Combat tutorial and since I couldn't figure out how to start it, I skipped to doing the first mission and working on the fly from there utilizing in game hints.
The game feels very stiff to me, but this is from the inability to turn using the controller. The lack of control over the movement of the character makes the game unnecessarily difficult to maneuver in for myself and if I find a setting to alleviate this issue, I'll update my review when I do find it.

Even with the issue above, I feel this game is still worth having a look at and trying for oneself. There is about five types of foes to fight simply between the first two missions alone - this includes flying drones, robots, explosive robots, robots armed with firearms, and even crippled robots that jump at you to cover distances. These basic enemies make for a solid wave style arcade shooter and it feels like I'm playing a game like Space Pirate Trainer or Robo Recall in a way - granted the game isn't has interactive with what the player can do against the bots, nor is there melee or a change of weapons.
There are four 'heroes' the player gets to choose from. One uses handguns with full auto functions as a cooldown ability. Another uses a Shotgun with a Grenade Launcher ability, Another uses a Bow and the last one uses a Katana that can be thrown and retrieved.
Alongside these heroes, the player can build defenses - like turrets (I have not tested this, but somehow got the training for this specific tutorial to actually work, I still don't know how it did when the Combat Tutorial just doesn't seem to work for me - but I can be rather dumb sometimes rofl)
I have only played as the starting character (The handgun user) and the game-play feels fairly solid in that regard, even with the stiffness in question which makes it hard to dodge and move (At least for myself) I do wish I could utilize both hands on the handgun to better stabilize the firearm in game, but I simply default to holding the controllers "Call of Duty Tactical Knife" style to give me the stability I do want when aiming when I'm unable to have both hands on the firearm.
Since I have only played the first two missions, I don't have a crazy amount to add beyond what I have here. I somewhat like the "AI" character who is stuck with you during missions, but I do forget to give the game time to actually let the dialogue banter between "your contact who's hired you" and the "AI" Character.
All in all, the experience isn't a bad one and it makes for an okay arcade shooter - but if it had the ability of things from a game like Robo Recall (Able to grab enemies, melee enemies, etc) and if it were possible to mechanically turn and locomotive move - I'd have a lot more fun myself.
But for 8.79$ (Canadian) Right at this moment, I'd recommend the game at least to try the title as it does have a solid formula for game-play and a rather interesting setting and idea. I am hoping to play more of the game and learn more as more abilities unlock over time.
crashes when i try to use steam link
This was not the game I played when it showcased at GDC.
I'm a big sci-fi geek, and this game satisfies all of my sci-fi dreams of Ai trying to destroy humanity! the Ai bot in the game is hilarious and the plot is not bad at all. Love the variety of characters in the game too as they each have special abilities. Try the game out, it's very fun!
This game is great for New players. the fight comes to you. Helps with motion sickness tempering. By the time you get to the end you will be ready for more intense games.
Worked great on Vive, but as of 1/29/25 it'll crash on start-up with the Quest 2. Unfortunate because this was a very fun game.
Absolutely horrible handholding. Makes you feel like a kid in the kindergarten. Requesting a refund. Not fun at all.
Leading Global VR Gaming Studio, Award Winning Immersive VR Games.
Every their game is abandoned and barely functional, don't ever buy anything from them, even for free it's not worth it.
Game crashes on windows 11/Meta Quest 3. Don't buy.
It is outdated tower defence VR experience. Small arenas with lots of stupid enemies. Everything you do is just shooting - clear area - repeat. Nothing interesting. Works good on Quest 2.
The good: GREAT area defense gameplay. Four characters with very different weapon styles. Two pistols, shotgun, laser katana, and an actually fun bow and arrow. Very fun game.
The bad: it's buggy, and seems to have been abandoned by the developers. So what you see is what you get. Even so, it's worth a purchase, I think.
game ALWAYS crashes before even reaching the menu
a landmark in virtual reality, cant go wrong with this classic
Works perfectly for me using Quest 3 and cable link.Problem is this is premium VR from 5-7 years ago. Let it die. Steam link is just streaming cable link. There's your problem. Streaming. You can't. Neither can anyone else, really.
Recommended. Still premium.
As others have said,. this game now crashes before getting into gameplay.
Win 11
Remember seeing it in the early days of VR. Playing it was a good time.
