Decided to revisit this one on Steam after playing it back in 2013 or so and man, it's just as fun and clever as I remembered—if not moreso! Despite "meta horror game that messes with your computer" being its own (personally, beloved) subgenre now, this founding father of that subgenre still does so many interesting things I haven't seen any other game replicate since. And despite being an extremely nostalgic and thus familiar game to me, some of the scares still made my skin crawl—I was alternating between giggling in delight at how cool this still is to me and gasping in horror at how it messed with me when I dropped my guard. I'll always have a special place in my heart for this game, and I'm thrilled to find it's just as good now as it was back then! ♥

A very unique and clever horror game, and one of the few to actually scare me. Highly recommend
This game is a must play if you're into pixilated horror. Between the puzzles and how uneasy I felt with the horror I was always on my toes.
I was constantly having to think outside the box and it was refreshing getting so involved in a game like I did with this one.

They have a life of their own, and it is difficult to distinguish them from normal computer files.
In our actions of everyday, while we sit at the computer, this byte entity observes us, and studies our every move and fear.
IMSCARED is a glorious experience. Play it.

So far the only meta horror game that actually scared me. It still makes me incredibly tense even knowing what's coming. (it being meta is not a spoiler the game basically makes you sign a contract at the beginning to understand what you're getting into)

Maybe the first game i've ever owned, has a big place in my heart. Though it's simple nature and basic style, IMSCARED still fills you up with the desire of exploring what's next. Within the fear of unknown, it's a pretty good game for those looking for something new.

The scares are on part when it comes to gameplay and the 4th wall brakes do wonders to add to the immersive feel of the game.

There's no doubt that IMSCARED is a foundational centerpiece to the entirety of the horror video game genre. Finally being able to play this game myself was an incredible, and morbidly beautiful experience that finishing and 100%'ing the game hurt so much because it really felt like losing someone dear to you.
IMSCARED is 3-4 bucks and on sale quite often, for it is so worth it just using your head and playing around with your files to figure out how to beat the various areas throughout the game and figure out its (mostly) intruiging puzzles. And the title doesn't lie -- you'll find yourself being scared, too.
It's been a long time since i've jumped so hard from a horror game, the last time being the original Slenderman.
I punched my table really hard at 2am playing this.
10/10 Would not play again- at risk of heart palpitations.

this game is SO GOOD
honestly a bit dated, especially with the now large sea of games going for the exact vibe, with the main "4 wall breaking" gimmicks sometimes coming off a bit annoying as they feel shoehorned in.
But the games issues are merely a product of it being one of the pioneers of games like this. It still hold's value, with its carefully crafted atmosphere, and some scares that got me pretty good. for 4 bucks, it would absolutely not hurt to try this one out.

A really entertaining and crazy trip of a meta game, until the ending...
Ok, so I honestly REALLY enjoyed this one. It was an interesting concept, and I have a soft spot for meta gameplay. And a LOT of the game was super fun and I got to work my puzzle muscle. But there were parts I was NOT a fan of (the hedge mirror puzzle was one)...with the worst offender being the final part where you have to have ALL the other achievements before it lets you continue to finish the game). I was stuck on Heaven's Door and it took me around FIFTY MINUTES to figure out how to go back to the area I needed to for the achievement. The game is NOT kind in that regard, and neither are the walkthroughs on steam. It took 50 minutes of searching to find out that you can enter names (when prompted) to redo sections of the game (and you MUST complete those sections until you get to where you are back in the house to choose doors). It was frustrating and annoying and really killed what was otherwise an amazing game for me.
Anyway, this is a great game...until it's not. And in the true ending, there was a LOT of annoying, loud audio, so brace your ears for it. I wish steam had a 50/50 rating, because I hate to say I don't recommend, but I also don't FULLY recommend. Maybe just know you WILL need a guide, and the Heaven's Door achievement is the most annoying to redo, so here's the answer: In the part with the numbered doors, when you're running around and the halls turn to flesh, before you leave the area, there's a path of blood on the floor leading from a door to a wall. Hit E several times until the achievement pops. You're welcome =P
this is an awsome concept for a game and it manages to scare the ever living crap out of me and be the most entertaining game ever simultaniously

a lot of people really say this is boring but EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER the puzzles are smart the white face is unnerving and HER is spooky and also the atmosphere is alright but it supports the game :D

I was not very old when I first watched Markiplier play the first version of this game. I never played it for myself until today, and my God, am I happy I waited so long so I could properly appreciate this game.
despite the game being only around an hour and a half, its still one of the best 4th wall breaking, short horror games ive ever played, this is worth the 4 bucks, please play :pray:

When you compare this game to Spooky's House of Jumpscares - this one is more spooky but also crashes a lot (on purpose). It's like one of those games that immerse you more than just !@#45. Think of it as a meta game that changes every time you open it again - you will be surprised.
Recommended for fans of pixelated horror games.
