Nightcry is an old school point and click horror game so scissor cutting bad you mightcry playing!
The crowd funded disaster game takes place on a haunted ship where you play as multiple characters trying to escape and solve the mystery of the scissor wielding monster on board. This game has a boat load of issues from the awkward running animations, glitched character hair waving like a flag on a pirate ship, lack of any facial animations and having to click on an object multiple times for a character to use it to the bigger issues such as the game locking you to a bad ending for very random unexplained reasons such as missing an item that is never actually used by characters in game such as a wedding ring found in a vending machine, if you miss this random item you will not get a good ending . This game should of modernised the point and click genre instead it forgot this isn't the 90's anymore! Fair difficulty is appreciated but confusing design is not.
The overall game design is very random and I would love to know the amount of players able to get through this mess without a walkthrough. One example is not being allowed upstairs until you click on a brochure of the ship, even if you already have the keys for the upstairs area. The game also fails to highlight small items so expect to constantly wave your cursor around to not miss anything as you will get a game over that will kick you back to the title screen. Was the development team entirely made of underpaid teenage interns?
Keep in mind the guy behind the first two amazing clock tower games was in charge of this as well as the music being composed by the composer of classic castlevania tracks so it is not like there was a lack of talent on board this ship of devs.
I am currently locked to a bad ending despite only being about halfway through what should be the full game and I am honestly not wasting my time to figure out what I should do to fix it. Maybe I forgot to click on a framed picture of cheese 8 times, I would not be suprised with how strict this game is of what you must do to pass.
I should also mention how this game fails in the horror department too as the geniuses behind this project thought to make every encounter with the pretty cool monster scripted, killing any tension as you explore. So as long as you memorise what not to click on to avoid triggering the monster you will be safe.
Over all this game wastes any potential and seems like it should be made a free mobile port, which is funny as this was intended to be a mobile game. I would like to see a remake however as with some care and polish this could be a great modern point and click title! Dear devs, do better!
It's basically a new Clock Tower game from the original developers, jank and all. If you liked the SNES and PS1 Clock Tower games, you can probably look past this game's flaws and like it too!
The unofficial Clock Tower game with legally distinct villain the Scissorwalker. Solid premise and interesting but you can see the budget was stretched thin and the game was also promised to be ported to the Vita of all things so don't expect it to look even AA in scope.
Still even with all that we get the original voice actor for Barry Burton from Resident Evil 1 playing the main villain so that alone was worth the buy just to hear those dulcet tones deliver stilted dialogue.
Worth picking up on deep discount or if you are a fan of the Clock Tower series.
The game reminds me a lot of the classic game Clock tower. Sometimes it gets a bit confusing using the click and point, but once u get the hand of it and just wait for your character to actually run towards where you want them too then is ok. Only downside that when being chased by the monster sometimes you run out of stamina way too quick, reminds me of Clock tower 3 in that regard. The game is scary, and Monica is a gorgeous. all in all 8/10
Loved the clocktower series since childhood however this game is a steaming heap of shite to put it kindly... Frick its bad, but at least there's a remaster of the first clocktower coming.
Bad fleeing mechanics, character runs out of stamina way too fast and just sits there like a sitting duck if you're too fatigued, trips and falls too much, scissor walker catches up to you in an instant, barely any hiding spots, goofy ahh story, lame ahh characters, boring and shallow second chapter. It feels more like a chore to play this one, in oppose to the unease and terror the originals made you feel. This one will just frustrate you with its unbalanced flee mode and hot mess of a story.
I am a huge fan of CT first fear, ps1 Clock Tower and even slightly liked The Struggle Within. I was thrilled to see this game had the look and feel of the ps1 CT games and was super quick to buy it. The graphics and the point and click interface is no issue to me. Voice acting is bad but so was Clock Tower on ps1, so who cares. These aren't the issues.
Unfortunately its just bad. Funding for this game have nothing to do with anything I mentioned up above. It has its moments but I'm sorry, this is poor on almost all fronts.
The fact that this game costs 25 dollars to this day actually triggers me.
