this game can be considered quite gory by others but i think its just the right amount of murder story and game play
Wherever you think this game will take you you're wrong. Play for a story that unsettling, keeps you on your toes and guessing, has an amazing soundtrack, and has the funniest one-liners.
The protagonist has also never once known fragile masculinity and its super refreshing. The portrayal of relationships (familial, friends, and other) in this game are so real and sometimes too incredibly wholesome and not something I was expecting when i first picked up the game, but it adds so much

I love this game. The story line is a bit twisted so it can be unsettling for younger audience as well as any folks who are more empathetic. However, the plot flows nicely, there's a verity of achievements to receive, and overall the game just has many lovable characters. If you're interested in watching game play I adored Gloom Games playthrough over on YouTube. Every time I've played this game I've discovered new secrets or learned new information about characters. Like I said I adore this game and I can only hope for more in the future.
Its fun and interesting and the story line behind the episodes leave you with your jaw on the floor and excited for the next episode!!

I love this game so much. It's narrative and creative gameplay can really stirs up feelings and makes the player immerses in. The characters are fully-fledged. The sound and graphics are perfect and impressive. Definitely worth for play.

100% review here, I'll be talking about a couple different things here, all opinions provided are just that: opinions, and might not encompass all of how other people may feel while playing this game.
Personal review of the game/why I do or don't recommend it:
Sally face is a personal favorite of mine. I hold it very near and dear to me especially as the first game I ever got all the achievements for on Steam. It's a charming little experience that will keep you guessing and has twists that often times will shock you or even take your breath away. I definitely recommend everyone to at least try playing through it once, even if not to achievement hunt it.
Replayability:
Sally face is one of those multiple chapter story driven games, there aren't a whole lot of fun repeatable gimmicks that will keep you coming back or take up a lot of your time, but a solid achievement run can net you at least an hour per dollar spent. If you're looking for 2-3 playthroughs, perhaps you want to run blind and then run again following a completionist guide, that sounds perfectly fine as long as this genre of game is for you! Of course with any game there will always be die hard fans who can play it over and over but I definitely wouldn't recommend buying it if you're looking for a good long term time waster.
Achievement Hunting:
It's short and sweet! It will definitely be a time consuming task but not one that encompasses your every day for some time. I will say that the available guides for completing Sally Face aren't as thorough as they could be (by no fault of the developers or the game itself) and it's worth cross referencing multiple guides for the more extensive ones which will take up a lot of the playthrough (such as an achievement for hearing all dialogue from one of the characters).
Visuals:
In my honest opinion, the art style is certainly something else to look at. It's got that sort of disturbing vibe that absolutely accompanies an indie horror game and completely fits the setting, I just wouldn't go changing my profile picture as a tribute to the game's stunning visuals.
Lore:
Admittedly for me, as someone who is sort of spacey and struggles to follow narratives that aren't handed directly to me, I was left a little confused by the lore. I think for the normal person understanding the lore and getting very invested into it is worthwhile and very feasible, it just wasn't my strong suit in this case. It is how ever very well written and deeper than surface level :)
Overall I loved 100%ing this game and wholeheartedly wish I could experience it for the first time again.
this game is insane. the world that is built and the way things escalate is incredible and i cannot stress enough how glad i was to experience it all.
as far as gameplay goes, things start off pretty simply in episode 1 but by the time you reach the later chapters, you're going to be clicking on everything you can find to try and achieve 100%. that might be a negative for some, it can be really annoying at times (and i'll admit to looking up some things that i missed the first time round) but i felt it fit the themes a lot and is kinda the core of the game in a way. the only sort-of negative part i will say is how some of the achievements require you to not fail/die during the mini-games on episode 4 and 5, and you need 100% to get the actual ending of the game; the mini-games are by no means impossible (the only mini-game i messed up on was clumpy in episode 3 and turns out, there's a trick to that which makes it insanely easy) but they're the type where standing in the wrong spot, having a slightly delayed reaction, or just not knowing what to exactly do can screw up that perfect run, which makes it pretty stressful - this game does NOT need more negative emotions, there's plenty of that in the story (joke)!
there were a couple of points where my game did slightly glitch out, in one instance causing me to have to restart the entire episode but that wasn't too much of an issue and more a temporary inconvenience.
if you're looking to play this game, i would definitely recommend reading everything and paying attention to all the collectibles, the mini-games, and all the other sub-stories because they lend so much to this amazing story but could otherwise be overlooked.
as much as i wouldn't want to discourage anyone from playing this though, there are quite a few explicit and hard-to-watch moments ( [self-harm, suicide, being centred around the occult, and both unrealistic and brutally realistic body horror] ) that i could imagine might make some feel uneasy or upset, and all the moments that were a bit too much for me occurred during unskippable cutscenes - i don't fault their inclusion whatsoever because it fits entirely into the story but i also think it's understandable that someone might not want to play this game because of them. however, the game does not glorify any of the above themes in any way and makes a heavy point on appreciating life and the people around you (which i thought was quite beautifully portrayed).

Honestly? It's a good game, the art feels self-taught but in a good way. You feel the soul behind those little doodles around the characters' silhouettes. I absolutely loved the first 3 episodes, mainly because the setting itself felt isolated. A block of flats standing silently in the woods so you can almost see how it collapses in a few dozens of years, forgotten, with its guts covered in graffiti by youngsters from the nearby city. I liked that and felt a little bored when the game took a more mystical turn. In other words, horror won over psychological thriller. Still, I consider it mostly my problem, everybody else might have a great time and to them, I certainly recommend trying this game.
Puzzles that are slightly challenging but not severely hard throughout the game. Nice game design and storyline + amazing visuals. Amazing music as well!

played this game a little after it came out, one of the bests games i have ever played and is in my top three!! the story is amazing and the secrets add even more. I dint normally achievement hunt in games but sally face was the first game i ever felt the need to complete fully. I have played through it so many times and even now i still play through it, the story is always perfect and is so intriguing even when i know how it kinda ends. I'm so excited for Sally Face 2, though i know it will be awhile i already know the story line and art will be amazing. This is one of the first games I would recommend someone, you get attached to characters and connect with a lot of them in many ways. this game will always hold a place in my heart. <3
I grew up on this game. I used to have it pirated but decided to buy it here so I can not only replay it, but also support the creators. You can really see how much fun they had especially with the last chapter, and how much love was put into this game. For these times the story isnt groundbreaking, but gods will the soundtrack stay with me forever :).
It is such a fun game - the story is so easy to get stuck in. Highly recommend this game, though do check trigger warnings as it does get very dark :)
really good storyline and was genuinely hard to predict what was going to happen. a lot of games fall into the easy to guess what happens next category but the plot twists on this were excellent. 10/10
So, what can i say about this game?
first of all, it is certainly entertaining for those who enjoy puzzle-like games, figuring out different things on your own and thinking WAY out of the box.
I have all the episodes, thus, I am judging according to all of them.
I played this game twice in order to get it 100% done and still there are some achievements remain.
ADVANTAGES:
- This game is very captivating, regarding the plot and the plot twists. The story is rich is you get immersed into it.
- There are many things you can do in this game. You can play the main story line along with the mini games, which will assist you with a deeper understanding of the story.
- A pleasing art style of the game.
- The ability of quick skipping the dialogues.
DISADVANTAGES:
- The game is linear. Even though we are provided a ton of minigames, which are forced sometimes, once you go through chapters 1 and 2, you just have to do the same thing all the time.
- Sometimes it is too much of thinking out of the box. It is very nice tat the game challenges us, but some things are not possible to be noticed unless you are using some guide or such.
- Without playing 100%, you are getting the unfilled plot holes, which are not being answered later, and then you just feel like you missed on so many things...
- Even if you don't find all the clues, the game will let you go forward, even with the possibility of the missing pieces of the puzzle (no puzzle pieces, no additional story line), which feels kind of frustrating.
I really enjoyed the game in the beginning, but later on it was getting tedious and boring doing the same things. However, I still recommend this game to those, who enjoys puzzles and (kinda) FranBow style games.
Such an amazing game, unique art styles, so many interesting characters. A well written story, getting the DLC is worth it to play this masterpiece. I enjoyed playing through every chapter. This game has many puzzles and unique interactions and achievements to get. There is a-lot of interesting twists and turns in this game which makes you want to keep playing it. I loved the gore and felt like this game had the right amount of psychological horror. This game was quite challenging to get every achievement but it is now one of my favorite games. I would recommend you get this awesome game.
i hate you portablemoose for making such an amazing game that i got hyperixated on sal freaking fisher for months on end. he is eveywhere, he is in my mind, he is the voice in my head, he is everywhere.

I love this game SO much. The plot is absolutely beautiful! It has everything a good game should have and I'd 100% recommend it to others. I will say, though, if you're easily triggered or disturbed by things like; blood, suicide, sh, etc. Then I'd advise you not to play this, but otherwise, knock yourself out. If somebody asked me what I think should be changed about the game, I'd be at a loss for words. There is nothing bad to say about this game apart from the fact we all cried while playing this. 10/10!
This game was so good, and I totally recommend this game to people who enjoy psychological horror and uniqueness in video games. The story line is fantastic, characters are well-made and relatable, and incredibly interactive.

I loved this game so much, I love puzzles and everything! I finished it in 2 days, (spoiler) but I did hate when Larry and Sal died, but I can't do anything about that since it's the plot! besides that! it's fantastic!!

Relatively clear on what to do without playing the game for you. Fast moving; I've played the game 2.6 hours and am already starting episode 3. If you're contemplating buying just episode 1 or the whole package, BUY THE WHOLE GAME. You're going to probably finish the 1st episode in like 1-2 hours and you're going to want to play more. Makes you wanna vomit in a good way-10/10 :D

This was a wild ride of a puzzle game. And I'd absolutely play it again because I know I missed a lot (video tapes, pages from the journal, etc.) and I want to know all the lore. And that 'ending'?! I cannot wait for it to be continued
If you like things dark, strange, mysterious, or full of amazing art, then welcome to the world of Sally Face. Fell in love with this game watching a play through and years later I have the capacities to play it myself, it's just as enrapturing as I remembered. I love the weird and dark story line, how well connected the whole game is, the art once again. If you like a dark story game and you aren't already familiar, I would highly recommend.

The story, gameplay, and puzzles in this game are amazing. Each chapter has its own little secrets you can go back to after you beat the game to unlock all the steam achievements so it has decent replay value. I highly recommend playing this game in case you have never heard of or played it before.

Its my number one comfort game and i appreciate the hard work and details that were incorporated into this game. I love how much you can explore and the puzzles make you work for it. And all the details and surprises you get to see when you explore are so fun!!

For a game that's mainly just walking back and forth and entering doors, this game pleasantly surprised me. I genuinely didn't expect that plot. I also really like the characters and their development. It feels like every character does and says what you think they should, instead of being overtly stupid protags that most games do. Sal's a great MC, and I can see why he's the creator's favorite character. Also, the art style is good. I like the drab color palette. It really lets us know what we're getting ourselves into.
This is a great game with so much to explore. If your looking for a game with exiting lore that gets you hooked this is absolutly the game for you. the characters are great and have real personality. Overall I recommend this game!

I liked this game - for the most part I enjoyed my time playing it, and I'll buy the sequel when it comes out. The world, the story, and most of all the characters are all rich, interesting, and well written. It's very well done psychological horror. The art, the characters, the plot, the pacing, were all pretty much spot on, which is why I'm giving this a thumbs-up. I really loved all of these things about it.
The puzzles however are a bit of a mixed bag. Some interactable things have text labels pop up when you're in front of them....and some don't. In some cases, you use an object in your inventory automatically on something in the environment by just interacting with that thing in the environment. In other cases, you have to go to your inventory, pick the thing that you want to use, and then look at it, and finally hit some variant of "Use" (which you won't know at first, because that button isn't normally present when you look at items in your inventory). It's very inconsistent. Some of the puzzles on the critical path are good, and some of them are obtuse to the point that I still don't understand them even after consulting a walkthrough. Especially towards the later episodes, there's more repetition than I'd prefer. That's all pretty forgivable though in light of how good the rest of the game is, but...
My major complaint, and this is almost (but not quite) enough for me to change to a thumbs-down, is that major, crucial parts of the story are hidden behind optional paths and puzzles, most of which are fiendishly difficult, many of which have no obvious indication that you've failed, and some you won't even realize are puzzles at all. Some you even have to do under time pressure, like while being actively chased, at which point you may not even realize (I didn't at first) that this is something that you're supposed to solve *now*, and that you're not going to come back to later.
For example, there's a locked door with a keypad in the prologue. You can put in literally any combination at all on the keypad and it'll unlock the door, and it will give you no indication at all that if you had actually put in the *correct* combination, something extra would have happened. There's *so* many instances of this kind of thing. You will have failed (or missed entirely) a puzzle, but won't have any idea until at some time in a later episode Sal is referring to something that you've never heard of like it's familiar, at which point you might guess you missed some content somewhere.
There's parts of the game where there may be two ways to accomplish a goal, but one of them introduces you to characters and locations that are crucial to the plot, and the other (and in some cases more obvious) path skips them entirely. For instance, the first time that I got to Episode 2, one of the first things that Sal says is "I should go talk to so-and-so about this." I had absolutely no idea who this was or where I would find them, as I did not encounter them on my original playthrough of episode 1, only on going back through it with a guide.
These issues, coupled with the lack of any saving beyond a single autosave slot, leave you with a game which, as much as it takes a lot of the fun out of it and it pains me to suggest, you're better off following a walkthrough to play. The argument could be made that it'd be cheaper to just watch a playthrough on YouTube, but I really don't think that's quite the same. There's so much good about this game that I'd still recommend it, but it's a reserved recommendation at best.
