This was honestly one of the best games I've ever played. The story was incredible, the art style was beautiful - I would 100% recommend it.
Easy to play thought provoking game which will take your emotions on a roller coaster ride. It's a 5 hour game which I enjoyed every minute of. You make decisions which will affect the outcome so has replayability also, I just need to gather my emotions before going through it again with different choices. I highly recommend.
Such a good game!
Slightly disturbing, but it is supposed to be this way. It has a really interesting story. Because decisions affect the game, it can be played several times.
This game was such a fun mix of cute and creepy. I would recommend playing it at least 2/3 times to see all the outcomes and giving the mum eternal happiness was so worth playing this multiple times for me :)
Never have wanted a character to die more than the one in this game. Skip it and play Fran Bow instead.
I enjoyed this game. An interesting story with dark humor. However, I would not categorize this as a point and click adventure, I would say that it is a walking simulator.
A fun story that follows a little lady in her everyday adventure as she tries to survive not only her home life but the outside world.
While the humour is appreciated, LMF lacks game play and characters. So many scenes lacked any real input from a player, it's less 'point and click' and more 'watch this game for fun while sometimes adding a click of your own'.
For those seeking a darker P&C, Fran Bow - referenced at the end of this game - is significantly better.
Oh my goodness, what a beautiful little game. You can feel the love that went into this. The artwork is gorgeous, the writing is clever, and the voice-work is excellent. It definitely deals with some hard topics, but they really utilise them well for a story that touches your heart. This will probably be one I look back on and still think about years from now, honestly.
From a game-play perspective, this is mostly a visual novel. Don't be expecting a ton of complex game play. You can expect choices that matter, though. I've only played through once so far, but it was very clear to me that there are multiple endings, and I could see choices I made playing out directly in the story. I fully intend to go back for another round to see what changes.
Don't pass over this game, or it'll be Yikes Forever ;)
An adorable and traumatizing journey — and I loved every second of it.
I thought I was getting into a cute little game with a sweet British narrator and an adorable girl… but oh, how wrong I was. Little Misfortune is the kind of game that makes you laugh and then, five minutes later, you’re staring at the screen in shock, questioning all your life choices.
Misfortune is an absolute sweetheart — innocent, a little clumsy, but so genuinely honest that you just want to protect her from everything. And the narrator? Yeah, you can tell he’s hiding something from the start, but you keep going because, well… curiosity wins over common sense.
Cute and uncomfortable in the best way possible.
Its an really easy game with two endings and a spark of horror. Its really interesting and i really enjoyed it. I would like it more if it had more things to unlock but thats all. Really cool game.
Little Misfortune is a fantastic game filled with humor and charm. The witty jokes kept me entertained throughout, and it took me around three hours to complete. I’m eager to 100% all the achievements because i really like it.
Overall, I highly recommend it!
i love the artwork of this!! such a lovely looking world - the story is also quite nice if a bit short, but id still say i found it very enjoyable
On the rails point click adventure style with very little challenge and a short romp. The production kinda makes it worth the price-tag. very well executed if lacking a few things. I'd buy again.
I enjoyed the concept of the game. I didnt catch onto the plot until close to the end.
Misfortunes tragic optimism despite it all is inspiring and keeps the game lighthearted.
I enjoyed the small bits of humor and the art style, especially the cinematics!
I will be playing this game again to choose the choices I didnt in the first play-through, especially to experience scenes that I may have missed.
If you enjoy stories with depth and taking your time enjoying mini games I recommended that you play this.
replaying it to get all achievements, there are so many things you probably wouldn't notice in your first walktrough it's crazy to me
I wish that we could rate games instead of just recommending or not. I would recommend it, but say that it's really weird, kind of a bland story that doesn't really make complete sense. I mean, you understand (I think) what has happened or been happening at the end, but too many things are left unanswered or not made fully clear. I don't want to give anything a way, but it is mostly clear at the end. Just some loose ends, in my opinion. The game was cute and I liked Little Misfortune, but it's melancholy and weird at times. If you like indie games that are a little dark, you really might like it a lot. It's not "horror," though. Just a little dark and fever-dream-ish.
Brilliant, charming, light-hearted yet very dark writing with cute art-book style visuals. One of those 'you just have to try it' if you like narrative driven games. 'Yikes! Forever...' will be a part of my gaming vocabulary for a long time to come.
First off, it's a ~2.5 hour game (assuming you stop and interact with everything possible) with almost 0 replay value. This would be acceptable for a game that was, like, $5 or less. But this is four times that. Even if the game was absolutely transcendent in that 2 hour window, it wouldn't be worth $20.
And the game that's there is just not good, either. There's not really any gameplay to speak of. There's one bit where you're doing an aim/power thing with a slingshot (with no consequences for failure). There's another segment where you have to find a code in a room with ~5 interactables, then use that to find another code. Then there's a bit where you have to play rudimentary whack-a-mole. And that's the beginning and end of any gameplay aside from holding the left or right key to move along the map. Which, alright, it's a narrative-driven experience more than a game, sure... but it's not really any good as a narrative piece, either.
They never decided whether they wanted the tone to be funny, spooky, or sad, so they tried to throw elements of all of those in there, which ended up going together about as well as ice cream and hot sauce. They make a lot of throwaway jokes with shock humor or toilet humor (none of which are good), so much so that it undercuts any attempt at unsettling the player with surrealism or horror elements. The ending (which I won't spoil, just in case you still want to play this hot mess) is also painfully predictable, Under it all, there's a bizarre romance subplot, which felt all around icky on account of how one of the parties is an anthropomorphic animal and the other is a literal 8 year old child.
Finally, the urinal cake on top is that the main character's voice acting is PAINFUL. I hate to say that since someone really gave it their best shot, but... yeah. I couldn't really say why it was bad - maybe it was the bizarre accent they chose that doesn't correspond to any earthly people group to my knowledge - but It made me want to claw my eardrums out every time she opened her mouth. This is a significant problem since you'll be hearing her voice throughout the whole game - one of her defining character traits is that she NEVER SHUTS THE HELL UP.
I mean, don't get me wrong - clearly some people are enjoying it, since as of this review it's listed as "Very Positive" somehow. But as for me, I feel like I should have been paid $20 (or more) to put up with this mess of a game, rather than paying them for the privilege.
I loved this game! It's a point and click style game with lots of dark humor. I didn't notice that choices mattered but they made for some funny dialog and cut scenes. Would definitely recommend for someone looking for a quick game.
Amazing and sad story. Also very funny. Recommend it to everyone. It's a point and click adventure. Specially if you like dark humour like me. Her voice is so cute.
i do not like this game at all i dont even know when i bought this or if it was gifted or whatever but it was in my steam library and let me tell you - i played for 30 minutes and cried it is not psychological horror it is just disturbing it just gets worse and worse definitely not for me i like cute fun games
Great game with beautiful visuals but your choices do not matter in the end at all.
Beautiful short game and cool story with some wtf moments.
I truly loved this game. it was very good , the story line was solid and so was the dialog. I just wish for the price it was longer with a little more back story.. over all a great game
Worth the price tag, enjoyed my time playing through and listening to the cringy, but interactive dialogue.
10/10
if you love exploring/storyline games with gothic undertones, you'll love this.
I found this game to be terribly boring and disjointed. The art style is great. But as they say "you can polish a turd, but it still smells like..."
do not play if you do not want to sob violently and have a recurring nightmare for the next six years
Funny, great voice acting, amazing soundtrack (as you'd expect), and had some bittersweet scenes. The dark humor was a nice touch, and of course I'd love a game made by the same people who did Fran Bow. I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending and general length of the game, but I did have fun gaining all the achievements!
The art style is great. The game had great potential but unfortunately it let me down. Your choices don't interfere with the game. The ending didn't satisfy me.
This game had such an impact on me that several of Lady Misfortune's phrases have become a part of my everyday vocabulary - and they've stuck with me for years. From the captivating art style to the brilliant voice acting, the relentless humor, and the mysterious adventure, I was glued to my screen. I believe the emotional depth of the underlying story - so heartbreaking and poignant - is what truly drew me in. While some might argue that the game mechanics are limited, I've never been let down by any of the alternatives I've played through. As a Swede, is was especially heartwarming to see so many references to Swedish culture woven throughout the game. Thank you for providing so many hours of immersive gameplay and years of appreciation!
Bizarre, surreal little game that will certainly make even dead inside people feel something by the end of it. Art and voice acting won me over, easily making up for rather short duration and several other issues.
One of them being the fact that practically nothing of what The Voice insists will have consequences does and the questions you answer carry only informational context to give you some more background on Misfortune.
And then alongside with the main story, authors try do social critique on various hot button topics, but it feels very crude, out of place and adds little outside of airing their pet peeves to the public. Just go on twitter at this point.
Little Misfortune is a game that lures you in with its adorable protagonist, a cute hand-drawn art style, and a seemingly innocent story about a little girl searching for happiness. But don’t be fooled—behind the sweet, childlike presentation lies one of the most shockingly dark, emotionally brutal, and morally unsettling narratives in recent gaming. It’s a game that is both deeply funny and heartbreakingly tragic, often at the same time.
The story follows Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, an eight-year-old girl with a troubled home life, who is guided by a mysterious, silky-voiced narrator. She’s promised a grand prize of eternal happiness, which she hopes to give to her alcoholic mother. But as she embarks on this surreal adventure, it quickly becomes clear that the world is not kind to her.
Misfortune’s cheerful attitude and naïve innocence make the game’s horrific moments hit even harder. She encounters animal abuse, kidnappings, cults, and grim references to child exploitation and death—all wrapped up in a deceptively whimsical package. The game constantly toys with your emotions, making you laugh at Misfortune’s silly antics, only to sucker-punch you with a devastating realization moments later.
The game’s humor is sharp and dark, often highlighting Misfortune’s tragic ignorance of her own suffering. She mispronounces words in an endearing way, makes bizarrely innocent observations about deeply disturbing things, and remains largely oblivious to the true horror surrounding her. She treats everything as a game, even when it’s clear that she’s in real danger.
The Narrator, who seems friendly at first, slowly becomes more unsettling, hinting at something far more sinister. His interactions with Misfortune are often hilarious but also incredibly unnerving, especially as his motives become more apparent.
Beyond its surreal horror, Little Misfortune is ultimately about neglect, trauma, and the harsh realities of a child growing up in an abusive environment. Unlike many games where choices shape the ending, Little Misfortune plays with the idea of false agency—you’re given choices, but in the end, Misfortune’s fate is inevitable. It’s a cruel but fitting message, reinforcing how powerless she really is in a world designed to fail her.
Little Misfortune is a game that leaves you laughing one moment and emotionally wrecked the next. It masterfully balances dark humor with shocking, existential horror, making it one of the most unique narrative experiences in gaming. The charming art, eerie atmosphere, and tragic storytelling make it an unforgettable experience—one that lingers long after the credits roll.
If you enjoy games that are both disturbing and strangely heartwarming, Little Misfortune is a must-play. Just be prepared for an emotional gut punch.
i just finished playing one ending and i must say im really happy i bought it! I finished fran bow before starting with little misfortune and there are some similarities, tho fran bow was way more difficult, bloody and overall very violent. Misfortune way way funnier and the game also had some pretty hilarious scenes. Like the hamster nude club XD I also really liked the character of benjamin and their "love" for eachother (loved to see misfortune talk about him like a school crush). One thing that really confused me was that Mr. Voice can get you fooled very easily. Sometimes you dont know what choice is gonna get you killed or which one is gonna get you safe, or maybe theyre both safe, or they are both gonna get you killed. i definetly think its worth spending a few bucks on this game instead of some stuff that your probably just gpnna let laying aroud your room anyway ( trust me i speak from experience). But i highly recommend not watching a guide before trying to play it by yourself, if you really want all the achievements i guess you could look for one WHEN YOUR DONE PLAYING!! Ill post a update and walktrough after im done playing all the ends!
I've replayed it a few times now, new story things to see each time. This is one of those games that makes you think, What just happened? What does that mean? And then you start looking on reddit for other peoples opinions on what it means lol. Addictive. Has some dark elements, Misfortune is adorable little girl though.
What a trip this was! The first thing I noticed was that you, the player, know immediately that something's fucky here, but it remains plausible in-world for various reasons, chief among them being Misfortune's age of 8 years old.
The gameplay is quite straightforward. There are maybe a handful of minigames, but they are quite forgiving, either via retries or one-button mashing.
The art is cute, but quite eerie. Various styles are used, not unlike, say, Courage the Cowardly Dog, to a lesser degree of course.
Misfortune makes the game, really. She says dark out-of-pocket stuff, about a fifth of which didn't really land for me, but again, even that awkwardness serves as characterization and what does land hits like an 18-wheeler. Also, the voice actress did an amazing job, hats off, standing ovation and all that; the cherry on top of the parfait was the accent - lovely, lovely pronunciation, darling detail.
The story is not necessarily predictable, but one can guess where it is going if they've paid attention, which is how it should be. This takes nothing away from it, one of the best narrative games I've found.
Spread some misforture, little ladies!
honestly it was just kinda boring. plus, it was a bummer to learn that regardless of the choices you make, there's only one ending.
Little Misfortune....well here we go.
I was expecting something different and honestly wasn't prepared to some parts of this story at all.
It's like "Life is strange" where your choices have consequences, but with an even darker and sader twist.
Great Narrator and voice actors which round up the whole gaming experience and create the right athmosphere.
The hormone part of becoming a woman, suffering and bleeding every month was to real hahaha really cracked me up.
9/10
I would recommend to play this game when you are not depressive or with a background from heavy family issues.
Seeing her Mom smile at the end of the game and taking of the mask, broke my heart...I had to tear up that she still managed to give her the eternal happiness, created by her own glittery memories. :'c
Yikes forever! ♥
Bought this game because I used to watch gameplays of it as a kid and I always said that one day I'd be able to play it myself. Just like Fran Bow, Little Misfortune has an amazing story line and the mix of cute, horror and funny is definitely what makes it perfect, enigmas, eastereggs and lil funny moments make the game just lovely
Love the story, the characters. The gameplay is not that deep but it's fine. I had it on sale so I really don't regret buying it. (the game is short)
But I really liked it and I want to get all the achievements so I'll play it again !
It's alright for a cheap visual novel game.
Really needs some quality of life improvements and more save slots.
This game is little lady like , very cute and little dark . But you will fell good while playing this game . The art style is too cute and the voice acting of misfortune is amazing and not just her all the other characters voice acting is good . Brits can be funny with their accents .
Not too much of mechanics but it does justice to what it offers , good pacing , short and sweet and somber game .
Bro are you kidding me this game is fuckin tragic and heatbreaking.
Really good narrative game, not too long or too short.
Shes just a little lady
They're not my favorite genre, but I'm fine with "walking simulators". This isn't quite one of those, but it's very similar. It's meant to be a "choices matter" game, but they didn't feel consequential -- even when the game began revealing consequences. Little Misfortune just never engaged me. All that I can say of the story is the narrator is clearly the antagonist, Misfortune is clumsy and unlucky yet naive and upbeat enough that you're meant to root for her, and she's the latest in a long string of missing children led astray by the narrator. I expected dark humor but didn't receive any. Mostly poop and fart jokes.
OMG This Game is so funny and messed up! I had a blast 100% the game.
Little Misfortune does have dark jokes so be aware!****
If you play this and really enjoy it, please play Fran Bow..Their other game!
This game is incredible! I'd recommend it to everyone. Great art, amazing soundtrack, sublime story and a huge amount of humor. What's not to love??
It’s a deeply sad game. Although it’s filled with dark humor, funny moments, and touching scenes, it leaves you with a lingering sense of sorrow.
The visuals are captivating in their simplicity and attention to detail, and the atmosphere is filled with a surreal sense of unease. Throughout the game, we’re accompanied by the character of Mr. Voice (the narrator), who both entices and instills a feeling of uncertainty.
Though the game isn’t long, its emotional weight stays with you long after it ends. What makes it even more impactful is how it reflects so many real-life stories of abused and neglected children.
