Players in the game will be able to play on multiple battlefields of the campaign, from the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers where the Siege of Harper's Ferry took place, to the ridgelines of South Mountain, and to the meandering waters of Antietam Creek at the Battle of Antietam. Additionally, players will also be able to choose from a list of regiments that fought in each battle as well as what rank to fight as, whether they want to slog it out as a lowly private, or if you want to orchestrate the carnage and mayhem as a major general.

Uniforms and bodily features will all be customizable for other players to see as you march and fight in the lines of battle according to the tactics of the period. As a General, you will operate in your headquarters equipped with a map of the battlefield and constantly receiving reports of friendly and enemy positions. Send out new orders to the regiments to move forward, or fall back - all in real time. The orders will move down the chain of command, to the Colonels, Majors, down to the Captains in charge of the individual regiments, all of whom have the option to follow the orders of their trusted commander, or rebel against his wishes and fight as you see fit.

Each map contains a period reconstruction of the buildings, farms, forests, roads, and rocks as they were in 1862 so players can fight through the streets of Harper's Ferry, in the wooded heights of Fox's Gap at South Mountain, or in the cornfields and Bloody Lanes of Antietam. Players can feel the whiz of deadly shot and shell fly by their bodies, or hit their comrades or themselves as they scream in a bloody hail from their wounds. Limbs will fly and blood will be spilt once again as Campfire Games brings the fighting of the Civil War right to the player's computer screen!

We thought it a good idea to recreate/repost our Early Access roadmap as a lot of players having joined us recently are unlikely to know what we are intending to offer as the game advances in its development.
The below roadmap should be taken for what it is - a preliminary list of things we have planned for. As all plans are subject to change, there is a great chance that the list will also end up changing, however.
The order of the roadmap is also subject to change as the development moves ahead. Some things listed may arrive a great deal sooner or later than what their listing order indicates.
1. Bug fixes, stability improvements: This will be an ongoing focus throughout the development of the game. An alpha is never without its bugs. New content rarely comes without its fair share of bugs and issues required to fix up.
2. Performance improvements: We are well aware of the performance of the alpha is needing to be improved - especially at higher playercounts. Major programming work is currently going into reworking the most expensive part of the game at high playercounts. Once finished you should all be experiencing much better framerates on populated servers.
3. Expanded server moderation tools: This will allow server administrators more control to manage and configure their server using commands such as: kick,ban,change map, change skirmish area, change weather and time of day.
4. Improved melee: Melee is going to be receiving a much needed overhaul, including the availability of a parry move and animation kill sequences between two players (“kill-moves”) to increase the visual fidelity of close quarter fighting.
5. New battlefields: The Battles of South Mountain and Shepherdstown will eventually complete the Maryland Campaign of 1862.
6. Historical Battles mode: Besides the quicker Skirmish mode, the largest and main game mode intended for the game, known as Historical Battles, would open up the entirety of the 4x4 km battlefields for more of a complete playthrough, with a moving frontline consisting of several capture areas. This will also entail the use of the full chain of command where players take the part of Generals, using maps and couriers to direct troops across the huge battlefield.
7. Generals: The chain of command on the battlefield will be expanded with the addition of generals. Generals bring a tactical overview to the battle that all other classes lack, helping to command the troops when using the historical battles mode, helping to bring some order to the chaos of war.
8. Cavalry: Horses are to be implemented for both cavalry units, moving artillery pieces, as well as for the high command and their couriers. The cavalry was still an important branch of the armies of the period considering the changes in technology, acting as reconnaissance and quick response units as understandings for their use developed over the period of the war.
9. Final Release: Once the above features have been finished, we will be at the point that we would be just about ready for full release of the game to all and sundry! This final release would also be the point that those that had backed us originally would be getting their promised physical and digital goods. While we cannot give any definite date as to when we might get to release, we inch closer every day!

Great game, great community, really nothing else like it.
civil war simulator, racial slurs and all. 10/10 needs more recognition
One of the best games i have played in a min, love the arty/cannons in the game just had someone help me with it so i would recommend this game.
Still experiencing the "Establish Context" crash that has been affecting alot of people on WoR. Is there a definitive solution to solve this? I just built a new mid-range PC with a Ryzen 7 5800xt, Radeon RX 6750xt, 16GB ram, 1tb SSD.. I was thinking it would be enough.
This is an awesome game for those who enjoy a little more of a realistic Civil War experience. All the little details, like suppression and tunnel vision when a cannon goes off near you, really make you feel as if you're on the battlefield in 1864.
Playercount is OK too, you usually have 1 full lobby and I bet as the game is updated, this will improve.

Perfect for any Civil War Enthusiast. Very detailed and accurate uniforms/equipment/flags?maps. Good teamwork and fun community. Really great game!
Easily the most immersive game I have ever played. If you love history and the civil war then this is the game for you. No two matches will ever play the same and the amazing community provides some of the most fun pubs I have been able to participate in. The best way to experience the game is through community regiments, personally I love 42nd PA but there really isnt a wrong choice, unless you choose IVB lol.

The game mechanics are fun. Line battle single shot, charge with bayonet. Requires strategy and teamwork to be successful. Shares historical information and encourages roleplay to a degree. However, the reason I can't recommend the game is that the developers and moderators have failed extremely in managing the player base. The Text chat is constantly flooded with Racial slurs, Anti-LGBTQ+ commentary, and other language to the point the game loses all enjoyment except for those who support such horrendous views either passively or explicitly.
best multiplayer steam game out there also it has one of the best comunities of all steam games i started today and played all day and got helped all the time

the most fun ive had with an online multiplayer game since modern warfare 2, 15 years ago.
definetly a bit confusing in the beginning, as there's no in-game tutorial. They do have a bit lengthy tutorial videos on youtube. The game is very fun though, progressing through the levels and going throughout regiments and artillery units. Definetly would reccomend if your willing to learn how to play.
I think this game is amazing both because of the dedication to fun game-play mechanics and historical accuracy. It is hands down the best american civil war/victorian era FPS game on the market. The fan base that support this game are awesome, and if you want the most out of this game join a regiment.
As for negatives, I want more guns added to the game. The civil war had many import rifles, old muskets, rifles, carbines and side arms, and is my only gripe with this game. 9.8/10

The haloween zombie event was some of the most fun, funniest, and chaotic things ive played in a game in a while. I bought this game soley for that, and was not disappointed.
I have just a little over 2 thousand hours in this game and I have been playing it since early 2023.
The game originally was incredibly fun, however, the updates are incredibly slow and the updates that have been released are pathetically small and low quality, with every update I feel the game has gotten worse and as a result the community is in slow and steady decline. The melee has been utterly slaughtered, the amount of times I have accidentally stabbed a friendly who was to my side or even behind me I can't remember. Not to mention the perfectly fine voice chat being bastardized with update 194. Now, they have released an update after 4 months that reworked the lighting and the grass, with a reskinned zombies mode from last year with very small changes, then several hotfixes came out that made the mode worse and less fun to play which is unbelievable for an event that lasts 2 weeks. The response to players that the devs have given is unacceptable. I witnessed several bans from the official discord (myself included) as a result of criticism, and insults hurled at critics from discord meatriders and devs were commonplace. Incredibly toxic community and developers who will NEVER deliver on their promises that people paid for. I'm in firm belief that someone with genuine passion should buy Campfire Games out.
L Game, the Halloween Event took about 5 hours of my time trying to get a Achievement that wasn't in the Game. Now after the update fixing the achievement they made it even harder to get the Achievement so now I probably have to spend more of my time trying to get it, if I do. But is the best Civil War Game and right now seems like the devs are hating on the community.
Long time player of War of Rights, but after this disastrous Halloween event and the developers response to the critiques offered by the community, I cannot openly recommend the game.
The game over all is fun, but the road map provided is MONTHS behind. The Halloween event has been frustrating and disappointing.
Balance is terrible making it almost impossible without "kiting".
Developers how now taken measures to make kiting impossible.
In addition when players brought up an achievement that was listed but people weren't getting they responded with
"If you're bothered by a steam achievement listing. I can only suggest therapy"

after 8.4 hours ive come to the conclusion, this game is the mix between racist grown men and semi racist prepubescent children, where the two collide and form the most fun experience ever, marching into battle with your brothers in arms while a cannon just bombs you instantly. in conclusion this game fire.
my company officer was shot during a scouting trip, so the flag bearer told everybody to charge to avenge him so we ran over a hill right into 70 soldiers and we were massacred end of Glory style

I love this game but its dying Last time i went to play there was less then 50 players on the only populated server. Normally this server would have anywhere from 100-300 players on it. I cant recommend buying a dying game no matter how much i enjoy it,
ok, shooting, and all around mechanics are hard to get at first, but the community & the fun is there. Mainly listen for orders, dont run around solo they are called rambos, but the game is fun. NOT SAYING ITS NOT LISTENING TO A LIVE MW2 lobby but its a fun game
Pros:
It's a ton of fun if you play in large groups.
The effects of the gunfire and cannons are amazing.
The bayonet charges are also intense. You can literally hear the bayonet pierce on impact.

Not a whole lot of maps...yet!
I don't hold an interest in the American Civil War, so I didn't feel a lot of reason to keep playing.
If you do, this game is a must have. It's everything you could hope for.
Please do not play this game if you dont like being told what to do, or doing the same thing over and over again. This is not COD, or Battlefield. You cannot run out alone and be a hero. Work with your team or leave. That being said, if you LIKE that sorta thing, and history, this is the game for you. From infantry to Artillery.
It used to be amazing and i mean it still has its moments but for me i feel like the game has been falling off ever since they included a rank system it just makes the game boring and grindy this game should not have a rank system it dosent fit for this type of game they have updated the leveling system to be a bit faster but i wish they would get rid of it or at least only make you level up to be an NCO or Officer and now they changed the price to 30 $ when i remember it being 15$ when i bought it and it was way more fun back then now its 30$ with s boring grindy rank system that just makes you feel limited in a game where you should be exploring multiple aspects of the Civil War i would give this a thumbs middle if that were an option.
Is it a good game? No, it's a cool game. What makes the game cool is the community, real players with whom you fight in battles. There are more laughs than you can count on and no two battles are the same. So enjoy!
Nice PTSD simulator. Beware of the faggots (admins) that police speech in at all times. Words hurt their feelings too much.
My Thoughts
War of Rights is a multiplayer PvP FPS that aims to realistically portray the United States Civil War.
What I Like:
Currently has support for a total of 350 people in one battle.
Cryengine looking great as usual.
It's fun to feel like a small cog in a big machine. The team that organizes the best has a better chance of winning.
What I Dislike:
I haven't played the game in a year and just launched to find it largely the same. A while ago they teased cavalry but I haven't heard anything since.
A great and unique game. No kill points so no score board warriors, the game forces you to work as a team, the competition is between the commanding officers and how well they command the individual troops in each company. Of course you make a difference as well but how bad or well you would not exactly know. The key to victory relies on your CO and how well he commands his troops. You get the gist of the good ones because they are aware of reload times, position, map knowledge, timing, troop respawn load and bayonet and judging the best times to move position with maximum effect. A bad CO will have you spawning, dying, charging in to enemies un prepared without the chance to reload or attach bayonet firing at the enemy in venerable places with no cover when the enemy is shooting you behind a stonewall fence.
The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is realistic even being painful with the reload of the musket times but you have to remember the enemy has the same problem. Its about timing and picking your shots. The battles are set in the Maryland Campaign of 1862 during the American Civil War and land you in historical scenarios like the battles of Antietam, Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, and South Mountain.
Servers are in abundance including boot camp servers where you can practice your aim or artillery however the player population is surprisingly low for a game of this calibre. This game seem not to be very popular to the European crowd and can be less populated during EU prime time hours. It comes alive when all the US players get home from work. I am surprised its not more popular because this is an awesome game.
The game is fine tuned to a point where there are no glitches, no exploits, no crash or compatibility problems. it runs sweet as a nut as long as your PC spec it up to date.
The negative points are that this game has been out for a few years now but the devs do not seem interested in adding any content. The possibilities are endless but I understand the old quote : If it isn't broke don't fix it however there is only so many times you can play each map/scenario before getting a little bored. People would love other historical battles like Gettysburg and additionally the room for addons like Zulu wars and Napoleonic wars using this game engine would wet the whistle of many.
The community is funny and somewhat volatile with the odd racist slurs (especially CSA{) but if you can overlook this and deal with your feelings its actually fits with the historical lore of the game. My suggestion is join the Union and get revenge. Its a mash of organised chaos, you might get the odd guy playing some banjo music or whistling Dixie and sometimes it adds the the atmosphere. Behind the public scenes there are regimented battles between guilds/clans with organised and regimented battles, you will probably run in to recruiters of these at some point if you prefer to join one.
For the price you get your money worth and more. Much more than many other games offer.
This fun, but if you dont want to deal with the time period play on union other than that to have a good time play csa.

No but seriously I do recommend the game just please keep in mind certain aspects of the games players:
Union are typically more about the game than anything, they do have a lot of issues with team killing at least when it comes to the public server.
Confederates are typically very racist incels who want to live out their flawed fantasy of fighting for Dixie Land (the racist version of Disney Land) thats not to say there aren't some people who play confederacy to escape getting their heads caved in by the butt of their own guys musket in the union side.
All and all I enjoy the game despite the flaws of the community but I recommend joining a regiment where rules are more strict and you play with people wanna just have cool large scale battles.
