The game isn’t as bad as I expected, I found myself wanting to go back and play it when I’d put it down, so I figure that is a good sign. The platforming is okay, and as you progress you can use points to upgrade your weapons or add dinosaurs to ride, which is cool.
Some of the enemies will come out of nowhere, which means you might have to play a level a few times to memorize their cheap surprise attacks. There is also this ridiculous hunger bar, which takes away your life as you move through the game. It's not game breaking, but it’s extremely frustrating in a couple of areas. A future update that adds achievements and the ability to disable that hunger bar, would improve the game.

This a 2d retro platformer with heavy emphasis on "retro".
Graphics: 9/10 - My favorite part of this game, the creators did a great job with the pixel art and while I have seen better done, there is nothing wrong with it.
Sound/FX: 10/10 - There is where you have to consider what you expect from the game. The designers obviously wanted this to look and feel like an original NES game, and with respect to sound and fx it is a perfect fit.
Controls: 7/10 - It feels like an average NES game.
Gameplay: 6/10 - The main mechanic is that your "health" bar (or hunger bar) continually drains unless you pick up food. So you cannot just wander around forever. The problem is, it drains just a bit too fast and this seriously hurts the enjoyment as you usually feel like you are having to speedrun the level, not just keep a regular pace. That really killed the fun for me. There are no difficulty settings which even some of the most basic NES games had.
Overall, this is a difficult game to review. Understand that this is considered a "retro" game, but really there a two different types of "retro" games. There are retro games that are 2d and use pixel art but use modern approaches to gameplay, controls, etc. And then there are RETRO games where they are designed to be just like a game you could buy and play on your NES. This game is definitely the latter and realize that comes with that design choice is a lot of the limitations that NES games have, namely the controls. I docked some points because even some NES games have better controls than this. What ultimately keeps me from recommending this is the gameplay. The lack of difficulty setting and the health bar that drains far too quickly just make this an annoying mess and is surprising given the obvious effort that went into his aesthetic elements. Ironically, this makes it more similar to an real NES game that most retro games like it. So, despite my negative review, just know that if you are a gamer who has played the entire NES catalog and wished there had been more actual NES games, this game is for you.
Abysmally dull. The mechanics are slow and ultimately unsatisfying. Overall the game doesn't leave you with any sort of takeaway. Happy to uninstall. Spend the dollar on something different.
I like retro games, this one sucks hardcore. Cant even play for more than a minute before I'm bored out of my mind
I can't recommend this game. At first it was nice, but the farther it got worse.
+ Resembles NES version of Adventure Island.
+ Nice graphics.
+ Okay boss fights.
- EXTREMELY short game. To finish the game once you need less than two hours.
- Game has a lot of bugs.
- Poorly designed hunger bar. Caveman starve to death really fast.
- Terribly annoying stamina bar.
- Average retro soundtrack.
- Below average level design.
- It doesn't support Dualshock 4. (I was forced to use xpadder.)
This game is simply fun. It might seem a little repetative but the bosses are unique and so are the weapons and pets. It's one of those level one then go one to level two type games. You can also choose paths at times. And the secrets are cool too. The levels are sort of challenging because you have a hunger bar which is also you health. (You don't need food for the boss fights.) Sometimes your saying what the heck is that! And sometimes your like OH CRAP NOOOOOOO!!! This is all my opinion. You don't have to follow this if you don't want to. But I think it is worth $10.00. :)
It's a bit clunky to be quite honest.
Little to no momentum in your jumps when you need it but at least the controls are responsive.
The combat is bland but it's suitable for what the game is going for.
However, the game has cool mechanics in my hot opinion even if the combat is lacking.
The bosses aren't too bad if you have a weapon other than your default.
Also, you can't go back to previous levels if you say, need a dino or a better weapon to beat that level you're stuck on.
Final boss is almost impossible without items, so don't blow your load right before.

It's kinda fun but not THAT fun.
Nothing really to point about about it as BAD. It controls ok. It looks passable for the most. Has a fun moment here and there.
But overall just kind of bland and a little boring.
I hear that it's a ripoff of a game called Adventure Island (which I've never played, but looking at a recording of that game; yeah it's pretty much the exact same) and I hear that the original is better so play that instead.
All in all I would recommend this game if you pick it up in a bundle with something else you wanted anyway, but I wouldn't go out and spend money specifically on getting this game.
Okay, this game has gotten some negative reviews, mostly (at the time of writing) about the hunger/life-bar. Going by them though you'd miss out on a very neat game, let me tell you why.
Essentially, this game is very similar to the Adventure Island series for the NES, which started as a retool of the Wonderboy game. You're on an epic quest to save your girlfriend from a continent-sized prehysteric monster. You chase after her through a series of levels with their own themes (swamp/forest/desert/cave/lavacave/etc.), collect power-ups, food and dino-eggs in order to make travelling and finding hidden things easier. You also have to face big bosses and be speedy about going through the levels due to the hunger/life bar.
So far, it sounds like you just need to shave your character to find Master Higgins, but the truth is that Dinocide has some of its own charms and flaws. Big point on the charm side is that each level has at least one hidden something, be that a crystal, a mecha or a group photo of the dev team. Each level has a fun design with surprisingly detailed bg's. Downsides are that the hunger bar depletes quickly and that you can't return to a previous level so exploring them takes multiple playthroughs. Bottom line is though that while most of the challenge comes from the hunger bar, it is a very fun game and definitely worth the price.
Do not waste your money on this.
Firstly, it's simple controls wouldn't work with my son's 8bitdo SFC30 gamepad, which was a bit annoying given how simple the controls are.
Secondly the game is so bad it isn't worth any money whatsoever. The "physics" are like those programmed by a first time programmer and are quite horrible (e.g. 1 speed up/down when jumping, no acceleration curve). The main game mechanic of starving very quickly is just ridiculous - this was a game I only bought for my kid to play but it was too hard to play it. Even I had trouble with the first level, let alone the 2nd.
So with those 2 factors in mind I requested a refund.

I bought this because I loved the Adventure Island games for the NES. It's not quite the same, but a fun game in its own right.
As other have said, it delivers something near the retro NES platformer style gameplay, though a little lighter. The music is enjoyable, riding dinosaurs with special abilities is fun, and the new mechanic of having to always be eating (hitpoints shared with health meter which goes down slowly over time, and a larger chunk is lost when you take damage). Your view on this new addition may be one of interest as it does add a certain measure of urgency to every level; but others who enjoy a leisurely pace, and the fun of exploring every nook and cranny, will take a dim view of it.
In either case, I agree with some others here that gameplay feels balanced.
While the leisurely explorer in me missed the ability to check out every square inch of the levels, I get that this game aims for a slightly different experience.
And I can appreciate that. Recommended.
Fantastic retro NES platformer style gameplay, a rich 8 bit soundtrack, cool items and ride-on-dinos make this an enjoyable retro style indie title.
Gameplay is balanced and fun, as well as challenging in a way that NES platformers were known for.
I bought this and can absolutely say its worth the money and that I'd love to see more retro style platformer titles like this.
If you grew up in the 80's and loved NES platform titles like Astyanax and Adventure Island you'll love this.
I love caveman / Dinosaur genre games, in my opinion, there is not enough of them and it is a genre that is way overlooked.
Here comes along Dinocide with some really cool game mechanics, mostly familiar from the NES era.
The game feels like not so much a throwback but more of an homage to the past.
However the game is poorly put together, there is no structure to the overworld map, and this feels clunky, I would have much preferred clear stages such as desert, forest, ice, instead we are given a roulette style level system, I have no idea who thought that was a good idea.
Also, the game is very repetitive, some of the level design feels rushed and the enemies seem as though they were taken from previous projects the team had worked on, for a game called Dinocide there are very thew dinosaurs, which is a shame, instead we have Mexican skeletons and zombie pig-men !!!
There are some good secrets hidden away, and the boss fights are inventive, I kind of wish the team had spent more time on creating more bosses and actual dinosaur enemies than trying to pad out the game with convoluted levels.
Dinocide does have some charm, it's hard to find but it does exist within the game, surprisingly with everything said the game is fun and does give the player some challenges, even if some of them seem unfair at times.
I believe this is a game aimed at little children, who have very short attention spans. Dinocide is a bad game, it is not a good game, but it is fun and very random.
I am giving it a thumbs up because I do believe people should play this if only to learn what not to do while developing a game, and how to avoid the trappings of poor development.
The game is funny for all the wrong reasons and fun because of it.
I both love and hate this game all at the same time, but love it more than I hate it...
I just wish someone will make a cool retro Dinosaur game, maybe it will hapen one day... we can only hope.
I bought this game for half price and I honestly don't feel it was worth it.
* (A personal gripe) The game itself has graphics that dont really match any platform or era.
* Actual gameplay is lackluster and after you die two or three times your almost completely done with it.
* The difficulty is only in the finding of food, not in the actual game.
Overall the game feels kind of lazy and without attention to detail. Not a single point of playing it did I actually feel like it was fun...
The positive: Great game, true to its 8bit roots. Fun to play, great chiptunes audio. Reminds me of Adventure Island. Very very similar. If you used to play that game, you will love this.
The negative: There is no option to run in this game which kinda sucks. Jumping can be a little tedious. Many times I jumped onto a log and fell right through.
