Описание

The world ended 37 minutes ago
It is time to begin

Yaughton, Shropshire. 06:37am 6th June 1984.

Deep within the Shropshire countryside, the village of Yaughton stands empty. Toys lie forgotten in the playground, the wind blows quarantine leaflets around the silent churchyard. Down on Appleton’s farm, crops rustle untended. The birds lie where they have fallen.

Strange voices haunt the radio waves as uncollected washing hangs listlessly on the line. The televisions are tuned to vacant channels. Above it all, the telescopes of the Observatory point out at dead stars and endless darkness. And someone remains behind, to try and unravel the mystery.
Immerse yourself in a rich, deep adventure from award-winning developer The Chinese Room and investigate the last days of Yaughton Valley. Uncover the traces of the vanished community; discover fragments of events and memories to piece together the mystery of the apocalypse.

Featuring a beautiful, detailed open-world and a haunting soundtrack, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is non-linear storytelling at its best.

I have played this game many times on ps5 and I love it. It feels like a place I went when I was young. I wish they made more games like this.

This game is probably worth it just for the beautiful soundtrack. The story is very nice and the town that the devs have built is so intricate and beautiful. The characters are complex and British as hell. Wendy can suck an egg. I wish it didn't have unfixed framerate issues and that there was better direction for knowing where character and story beats were. Instead you have to just listen with headphones for beeps and phone calls and ominous glowing entities beyond our comprehension.

"Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" is a masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of traditional gaming. Its stunning visuals, hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, and deeply emotional narrative create an immersive experience that stays with you long after you've finished playing.

The game's exploration of loss, love, and the human condition is both profound and thought-provoking, making it a must-play for anyone who appreciates storytelling in video games. With its atmospheric setting and meticulously crafted world, "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" is a shining example of what video games can achieve as an art form. Simply put, it's a game that everyone should experience.

As others have stated in their reviews - no ability to save your progress really breaks this game. It's a shame because the visuals and music were nice, but I have no desire to keep starting over from their arbitrary checkpoints every time I have to step away. My refund request was denied because I purchased more than two weeks ago (bought during a sale in December but finished another game before starting). Overall, disappointing, and I don't recommend unless you have a few hours to play this all at once.

While the game is an interesting concept, the optimization of the game is so bad that I can't find any reason to suggest it to others. It took half an hour of messing with system settings and game settings to get this to work, and based on online posts, I'm not the only one. Until this is resolved, do not purchase it.

i really wanted to like this game but made the mistake of taking a break while playing it and now don't think it's something i'm ever going to be able to bring myself to finish.

the setting/atmosphere is gorgeous and alluring but is kind of left being asked to carry too much of the weight. not a new observation in the slightest if you read any other reviews, but the problem with this game is the movement speed. i'm embarrassed of the fact i'm a walking sim enjoyer - this is the first time i've ever had to drop a game because of it. you move at a pace that is borderline offensive you're being asked to waste this much time getting literally anywhere in the game's world. my urge to explore and engage in this beautifully crafted (almost open?) world went out the window once i started realizing how painful and humiliating it would be/was if/when there was no cheese at the end of the tunnel.

having nothing to even make my curiosity to be part of this game's world feel rewarding, on top of the time i now had to waste "running" back to where i shouldn't have ignored the game's attempt to railroad me, made me sour on this pretty fast.

admittedly i don't think i played enough to tell if the story becomes engaging enough to stick with - personally it wasn't there yet for me at what i think was supposedly around the halfway point. i don't really see a path in what was being laid out where it would end up feeling worthwhile. it was pretty stupid to just look at talking light orbs with annoying british accents like why can't you just be american at least. and i think the one american voice in it is a black lady but she's actually super smart and a genius. can you heckin believe that we can be anything! anyway i quit this game to watch serial experiments lain for the first time and that was really cool and a good decision, you should watch that instead of playing this

I played this over a couple of days during x-mas 2016. Every x-mas since then I am reminded of the haunting, beautiful story I experienced. The narration and lovingly crafted experience of what happened in a little English village has become a part of me. A memory to be replayed, not unlike those in the game. Strong enough that now, in 2024, I still get goosebumps and feel that strange mixture of sadness and joy thinking about it, and I feel compelled to write down my experience in a review.

Fantastic game.
Of course, this is a walking simulator, so story is the focus, like walking through a book.
The soundtrack and story were brilliant!
The only complaint I would have is what others have said... Movement is just a bit too slow, and I found that the sprint button didn't work at all.
If you have the patience to tolerate the slow walking, I highly recommend this

I love walking sims with a good story, and this should have been a game that I liked. But I don't have the time to play this from start to finish in one sitting. The game cannot be manually saved, and the game rarely (and possibly never?) auto saves. You can play the game for a few hours with no auto saves happening. I requested a refund instead of replaying the first 2.5 hours I spent on this game before I had to start doing life stuff.

DISCLAIMER: This is a full review, and NOT a first impressions review
PLEASE NOTE: I recommended this game with some exceptions, overall if the game did not live up to just a tiny expectation, I would not have recommended it at all, so please read the review carefully if you are thinking of buying/playing this game
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a game developed by The Chinese Room and published by PlayStation Publishing LLC

The game offers some nice graphics and environments, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture overall, however, is a fun game to play but it does get boring if being played for a long time, especially with it's somewhat annoying repetitive gameplay, but is a good to okay adventure exploration game with an interesting story to follow and to play in short bursts!

It's not inherently bad, but it isn't a game for everyone, if you are looking for a good story with pretty visuals and some great voice acting, then this is the game for you. If you're expecting something more deep, then this isn't for you...

RECOMMENDED :)

If you like mysterious stories and atmospheric games you will like this game, I really recommend if you want a strange story to see everything and search what happened after finishing it!

It's a walking simulator, you will interact with doors and a little light moving the mouse for left and right, but the story is interesting and intrigating, nice!

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture captivates with its small-town beauty, where serene landscapes hide an eerie, unsettling atmosphere. The paranormal tone creates an immersive sense of unease, drawing players into a mysterious and surprising story. As secrets unfold, the stunning choir soundtrack elevates the emotional depth, adding a hauntingly beautiful layer to the experience. It’s a mesmerizing journey that lingers long after the credits roll.

The Game is captivating with its graphic and story. However, a major flow is that it is very slow paced and you can easily lose track of where to go as the "Light" might suddenly disappeare. I couldn't finish the game unless I check youtube everey other time. I was frustrated multiple times and almost deleted the game without trying to finish. The Ending is very disappointing and unclear. What started as a great journey ended up to be disappointing.

The Good

* The environment is cool to look at. You really feel at times like you are walking around the english countryside.
* The soundtrack is amazing
* Story is unique and interesting

The Bad

* Pretty buggy. Bugs I had are framerate really poor until I done the low latency hack. Getting stuck and having to quit out due to bad geometry a few times. Mouse appearing during gameplay and couldn't get rid of it. A few hard crashes especially when trying to load the game. I also only got a single achieve even after using a guide seems like the achieve system is a bit buggy as well so I wouldn't bother
* Too short really
* Nearer the end the dialog gets a bit silly a metaphysical too hard to understand and pretentious

The Ugly

* The pace of walking is obviously to make the game longer. Makes the game at times feel really slow when you want to get to something in the distance your like meh it's a 5 minute walk to get there
* A lot of walking in circles and backtracking. Too much often I would get turned round forget where I've been and be walking into places I've already been
* Bunch of random number and letter puzzled that are literally unsolved. The playstation.com websites with clues are gone so good luck figuring out why there are a bunch of astro co-ords or whatever the codes are. Infuriating really and bad design to put that so much in the game and not properly explain it

Summary

It's a poor buggy example of this type of game. Bit are really good other bits are just not worth the time. I think most playing this now-a-days will come away confused and a bit let down.

Everbody's Gone to the Rapture is the best story-telling game I have ever experienced. The story telling is unique, and I have never seen another game follow in its footsteps. The voice acting and music are absolutely stunning, and the graphics are beautiful while also keeping in mind that the game was released almost a decade ago. The performance on the highest settings leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm willing to make that trade for the best story ever.

So here it is: You really have to go into this title with this mindset: Lean back, relax, look at the beautiful sceneries, listen to the music and then slowly let the story unfold.
This is a VERY slow game and i think that they just intended it to be experienced that way considering the walking speed no less.
It has some odd design choices for a game of this type (mostly the surprising freedom to walk around large empty areas). I still enjoyed it for the most part. With that being said, i like walking sims. I find them to be very de-stressing, which is something i appreciate. But it is certainly not for everyone.

Then there is the achievements... they are probably some of the weirdest and silliest i've seen yet. Chances are, that if you play the game blindly, you will only get 1/18... for completing the game XD. Not sure what the idea was with that.

This is actually my wife's review, she actively played while I watched - One thing to add from me is that step one is to visit this post (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2816313428) and get the framerate unlocked. We went from 20 FPS to refresh rate locked 144 FPS with this one change.

I am so so torn about this game. On one hand, it's beautiful and the voice acting is amazing, and the idea behind it is just chef's kiss.. but on the other hand there are some pretty big downsides. The biggest one, being the one everyone has already commented on - the walking speed is a KILLER. I usually have a decent amount of patience, and I enjoy walking sims, so I'm used to not just sprinting everywhere, but I got SO frustrated during this game. Also, in my almost 5 hour replay, I had 5 crashes. Each time with progress lost, because you can only auto save, and that only happens once every 30-ish minutes. FRUSTRATING. I was very close to just saying scr'w it and watch someone on youtube play it.

I understand that this game isn't supposed to be linear, but I also don't like that it's a game that's scattered enough that even though I spent almost 5 hours and completed it, I know I didn't get half the story. Do I understand where they're going with the overall plot? Sure. I just feel like I missed a lot of interesting plot points.

And then there's the fact that the achievement hunter in me CRIED when I exited the game and figured out I had a meager 2 out of 18 achievements, when I felt like I had spent a lot of time exploring and trying to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Overall? Don't get it at full price. I'm sorry, but it's just not worth that. And if you become frustrated by lag, glitches and slow movement, this just isn't the game for you. But if you catch it on sale and you like a good story game, go for it!

I wish to make a warning before playing that some details do touch on ending ones life voluntarily. 4/5 I enjoyed the style of game. 4 out of 5. It is as if everyone just left and your alone exploring what you used to know as home and learning hidden details of other peoples lives before they left. is it rapture or is it aliens?

Torture for achievement hunters; a great story for a single playthrough.

Walking simulators can be fun, relaxing, entertaining, and wondrous - if done correctly. Having played it to platinum already, I have come to realise I should never have got it again for PC.

Games like Everybody's Gone to the Rapture are always going to divide the public. Take myself for instance - as much as I enjoyed it once before, I could not enjoy it again.

I'll admit the story is unique, and the way it is presented - with important snippets taken out of time, anchored to specific locations - is artful. People are never seen - rather, we just see pulses of light to indicate people that are talking. The reason for this becomes apparent later. The environment is well-rendered and looks peaceful, cleverly hiding the somewhat turbulent relationships between its inhabitants. Weather changes with each district, wind moves leaves and makes tent walls flap in the breeze, and some special effects come into play when the story for each area is considered 'done' and the sky fills with stars. So it can definitely be magical.

So why didn't I like it?

I'd probably put most of my disdain down to being an achievement hunter. I need my 100%s - I like the fulfilment of getting my money's worth out of my games, and the satisfaction of completion.

First off is the plodding pace. Even holding down run takes forever to get anywhere.

That wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to finish the game twice, and that's at a bare minimum - if you don't check a guide before playing the game, you'll then discover not only do you need to get all the story (1), then none of the story (2), but you have to also get all the radios before you do anything (its possible to do it first if you look at a guide, but if you play first and discover it later, then it's a 3rd playthrough). Don't even get me started on the books.

Hold on though, I haven't even told you about the people in this town. Some of the people are downright TOXIC. Wendy is probably the worst, but the two main scientists (supposedly married) are also somewhere at the top of my dislike list. Frank is probably my favourite, but this could only be due to a lack of other worthy candidates.

There's one guy sleeping around even though he's married.
There's some town-wide racism for the american in their midst.
Literally all the animals and birds died but people think things are going to 'get better'.
People are dying all over but miraculously almost no one sees anyone dying.

___________

The trouble I think is with how most gamers are going to perceive their time spent on this game. Most gamers have huge backlogs these days, and while mine is pretty tame it is still a backlog. How much time do people have to truly plod around replaying such a game over and over? Oh, so you expect me to just play this game for a few weekends without a care, never mind the backog? It's unrealistic.

Either the achievements should never have existed, or some of them need a rework. At least the radio one should never have had the condition attached to it. Let's face it - to avoid wasting time, 90% of people are going to have an open guide on the side before they even start this game, thanks to how airy-fairy the achievements are.

To sum it up - this is a walking sim that had potential with its interesting way of story-telling, but thanks to the bloat of achievements and apparent slow-motion, walking-through-treacle mentality of the developers, you are going to get annoyed. Just look at television. Cut to a scene transfer where your heroes get in a car and travel to a crime scene, for example. They don't put the ENTIRE CAR TRIP in the show, pan to Geoffrey Turner going to the little boys room, or Melanie Muranopolos going to fix her hair. That's why 'fast travel' or 'teleporting' is a thing in games.

I still enjoyed the story, I just feel it could have been done better. More of an on-the-fence rating than anything.

Where is everyone?

Homes, stores, and churches stand empty. Even the pubs are abandoned; tables are littered with unfinished drinks as cigarettes smolder in overflowing ashtrays. Ringing phones go unanswered. Cars, trucks, farm machinery - all abandoned. Birds lie dead where they dropped mid-flight. Playgrounds stand silent when there should be the sounds of children's laughter. Why are all the radios repeating the same garbled messages? Why is there so much blood?

Follow the light … In Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, you’ll take a journey through the village and countryside of Yaughton Valley. The light will reveal the clues - flashes of past events and snippets of conversations - to help you piece together what happened to the inhabitants of this now abandoned community.

Be prepared for a slow-paced journey reliving fragments of memories and events impacting the story’s six main characters. This truly is a walking sim. There is a toggle for speeding up a bit, but if you want to sprint through this game, it’s not going to happen. I was happy with that, since the environments are quite stunning; I really enjoyed the exploration. I thought the voice acting was well done and the soundtrack is powerful, poignant, even soul-stirring at times.

This is definitely an immersive, intriguing and thought-provoking game if you’re willing to invest the time to explore the events and uncover the mystery. If you want to dash through the game or are interested in 100% achievements on one run, maybe take a pass. But I think you’ll miss out on a really beautiful and captivating game.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The game evokes strange feelings. On the one hand, the plot is presenting in an interesting way, on the other hand, many questions remain after the credits. On the one hand, in some places, there is great music, on the other - places where there is nothing except the sound of footsteps (perhaps this is how it was intended). A lot of different objects, but you can`t interact with most of them. The hero's speed like a snail.
The price is also too high, in my opinion, for a game with 6-7 hours plot.
But ... there is something in it. Perhaps the beautiful landscapes captivate. Recommend it only to fans of slowly walkers (hello Dear Esther) and interesting plots, for everyone else - pass by

Never have I wanted "Maybe" as a recommendation option this bad. This is really, frustratingly, almost a very good experience if not for the glacial movement speed. They claim movement is limited so you don't miss things, but I DEFINITELY missed many things because I just can't bring myself to ooze over the vast, beautifully detailed landscape to backtrack 14 times at the speed of a slime mold. Whatever moron insisted on keeping it this way after doubtless serious pressure during testing should be shamed out of the industry.

This is not for die-hard 'hack & slash' gamers, because it's not really a game per se. What it is, is an emotional haunting experience.

One of the best and emotional stories i have played so far! 100% Reccomented if you dont mind the gameplay of just walking and exploring the story.. Be mind that you have to keep pressing the R2 in the controller to help with moving in a quicker pace.

So, I just rolled credits.
How is it possible to reach the end of a game and not know whether you enjoyed it or not?
The scenery is beautiful. The music is beautiful. It's all very evocative.
I just wasn't sure there was any THERE there.
It's a world full of delightful detail, but 98% of it you can't interact with.
I never felt I knew where I was in the game or what I could do to progress.
It's frustrating to go to leave and be told the game hasn't saved anything you've done in the last twelve minutes.
Sometimes nothing happened for quite a long time. Even when I was trying to make it happen.
You may love this game, but I can't in good faith recommend it, because I think there's probably an equal chance you'll find it frustratingly pointless and deathly dull. I don't know whether going back in to learn more would improve how I feel about it, or be a big waste of time.
It's not that it's a bad game, it just didn't ring my bell. Or my phone.

If you can get past the fact that the playable character is the inverse of Usain Bolt, Everybody’s Gone to The Rapture accomplishes just about everything you’d want from a walking simulator. Just like The Chinese Room’s debut, Dear Esther, the setting is gorgeous. However with ‘Rapture, everything feels lived in. It always feels like you just missed everyone or that someone could still be lurking just outside of your field of vision. That along with the masterful use of sound makes the majority of the game feel eerie and unsettling. The story, is told by a series of non-sequential flashbacks. Although it leads to some confusion early, by end game you have a clear picture of what happened to the town and why the main characters acted the way they did. Maybe it wasn’t The Lord calling his children home in Everybody’s Gone to The Rapture, but the conclusion is interesting and continues to be something I think about.

Once you turn ultra low latency and refresh buffer on in the Nvidia control panel this game plays very nicely. The story is very rich, immersive, and the world is very detailed for the time this was made. If you just want to press up and put the least amount of effort then this game is for you and I mean that in a positive way. It is very relaxing to walk through all the sceneary. I'm glad I bought this game

The ball of light kept getting stuck in place or under ground. It was really frustrating not being able to save when you want. That said, I did enjoy the scenery and the voice acting very much.

I actually quite liked this one. I didn't mind the slow pace or having to walk the same lenghts more than once, albeit i did get lost once or twice and i totally understand how that could be redundant for people. The graphics and the music were beautiful and i have a soft spot for classic sci-fi tropes and how they often turn into, like this one did, meditations about our humanity. Although sketch-like, the characters mapped out the dynamics of the community very well and there was no white and black morality: they were all testamnets to how we flawed humans are trying our best. The way this game was centered about memories made me think: what lives on after we're gone? Who has to bear the burden and honour of remembering and how do we remember? What we can do for each other, at the end? I think most importantly, we offer connection. Love. Acceptance.
