Описание

Make boats and sail them. Build, explore, expand, discover. Sail your ships through changing water and wind inside the eye of a storm.

Snap together planks, poles, sails, masts, jets, propellers, balloons, sparklers and more. Take care that it floats....and right side up.

Cross the sea to find pieces to make your ship bigger, faster, stronger, prettier, stranger, wilder: more yours.

Every island lets you redesign and rebuild.

The world is a procedural arrangement of crafted islands, pieces and creatures. Each replay will present different challenges and opportunities at different stages of gameplay.

As you push the storm back, new islands and new waters become available to explore. Find new pieces for your creations, escape giant creatures, and push onwards to escape.

see i like the game but it clearly has been abandon since they also have other games they are working on right now. maybe they will come back to this but it doesn't feel like they will. wish they would since it has a lot of potential.

Though I love the concept for this game, I have to give a negative review for it. Buoyancy physics are jacked in that you can't build a realistic-looking boat and have it float. Wood parts do not have the buoyancy you'd expect it to have in the game, and enclosing the hull to the point you've technically increased the volume of your boat and lowered your density doesn't keep your boat from sinking.

Game seems to be abandoned and still needs a fair amount of tweaking to be truly "good" but unfortunately it's also apparently the only building/sailing sim in the world. Recommended if nothing less will do lol.

the ship design is almost impossible to align the parts. The physics of everything has to be off as the ships flip over and sink more often than not. The are in the early stages of the game, but it needs work, a lot of work.

more like a toy than a real game. i dont understand why keel parts are heavier than water, so all ships become a mass of barrels. Its amusing for a couple of hours, but the game seems to be abandoned. With a couple of little updates this could be something really great.

Could have been a great game. Yes it is an early access game but I would think that means updates. There have been no updates in a year and a half and prior to that updates were far and few. For those who don't think I gave it enough time I purchased it in March of 2018! What is there is fun but I pretty much got as far as I could in 10 hours of game play. Had there been more updates I may have played much more. Don't waste your money on this early access.

Why I don't recommend the game: The game has some issues and the last update listed was July of 2018. Ultimately, I requested a refund.

The game has two modes: Story and Creative. In Story mode you sail around in a circle collecting boat parts and chimes that expand the map, so you can sail around in a circle to collect more parts and chimes. In Creative mode, all the parts are unlocked and you use the boat editor to build boats and then sail them.

The boat editor is difficult to use. When rotating the parts they can get stuck in the foreground/background of the camera and won't snap to mounting points. The mounting points also misbehave or are difficult to determine you're on the correct one. Once the part is placed, your only option to move it is to delete/undo and try again. The parts are divided into 4 categories, Hull parts, Buoyancy parts, Sails, and Other. Many are copies with cosmetic changes and once you have a lot of parts unlocked, it becomes an annoyance to scroll through all the Hull parts.

The sailing physics was OK, but had issues. I have some real world experience with sailing; having raced sailboats for a few years. I couldn't get the boat to sail upwind with the upwind sails. The best I could do was a beam reach, anything higher and the sails stopped working, the boat would slow to a halt, and then you're dead in the water. Once the boat stops moving your avatar drops the controls and you have to click to release then click again to control the boat. Although you can't trim them, if you're using the square downwind sails you can kind of backwind them to get the boat moving backwards and regain some steerage. However out of several attempts, I was only successful in backwinding and turning downwind once. Using the avatar to get out and push the bow around didn't seem to have any effect either.

The boats don't have any ballast or weight in the keel, only an overall weight to buoyancy ratio. To offset this, every design (that I saw) has some sort of symmetrical outriggers to keep the boats from flipping as soon as they sails fill. Also, at times, it feels like you're sailing on a wine cork the way they'll bounce, especially with smaller builds. I tried making a smaller boat with an upwind sail to test the upwind physics and it was uncontrollable. And for lashed(?) together ship wreckage and barrels, these things move way too fast. It seemed like average cruising speed downwind with full sails was around 30 knots. Amazing for plowing through the water with no rigging to secure the mast.

Anyway, this game has potential to be a fun sailing game, which I'm always excited to see because there are so few. The graphics and audio are good, in its current state its playable, if repetitive, but needs work on the main components of the game; the build editor and sailing physics.

Fifteen hours in and I still haven't seen the edge of the map. I don't know how I feel about that. On one hand it didn't feel like fifteen hours. On the other hand, I don't think I actually enjoyed any of it. The sailing mechanic is okay for the most part but I can't help but notice no manner of sail of sail configuration will allow you to sail across the wind more than a few degrees at speed. Any powered propulsion drains engines far too fast to be viable for any sort of distance. While steering under any propulsion is a constant struggle against the wind which only moves in one direction. This last point compounds frustration when paired with the fact that more than a couple islands will have a spawn location that requires careful steering to get around. The only motivation to fight the elements is upgrade parts which you obtain only to go out and get more upgrade parts and most of those 'upgrades' act more like another challenge to build around. In short, I never feel like I'm gaining ground. It's a futile push forward for the sake of pushing forward. I found myself driving in in spite of the challenge rather than because of it. There isn't much point bringing up the building aspects as this alpha stage is explicitly to work on it, however nothing I build is particularly complex and yet they frequently (frequently, mind you) explode or break in half spontaneously. Modules have the durability of glass and can break off by walking into them yet manage to occasionally be unbreakable and take a forty knot impact and stay put. Trying to brace parts together with boards or logs similarly has an inconsistent effect, sometimes holding sections as sections and sometimes creating strain and making breaks. The best thing in the boat building is arguably energy sails, allowing you to draw your own sails and sail configurations HOWEVER there isn't much in the way of viable masts for them. Unless you keep in short and use as few parts as possible you end up with a very real possibility of the mast twisting 180% and snapping off. Salting wounds I've built a few dozen ships only to have them inexplicably deemed 'too complex' and completely deleted out from under me, this is okay maybe but it also deletes every single instance of it, including previous working versions, this means you cannot even build in stages saving stable versions as you go because if any version fails they all get removed. The absolute worst bit is how every single ship I start building wants to save it's self so now my blueprints list is ten base parts that felt they needed to be remembered.

This game has an exceptional amount of potential, and that is it's biggest weakness. It is a game so unique it has license to be anything it wants. However, as it stands it seems to want to be little more than 'Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker' with all the good bits taken out. The surface level sailing is wonderful however without a primary driving plot device beyond 'Get the bits, expand the map, repeat' the gameplay becomes tedious before it becomes endearing. I think larger islands and a much bigger focus on exploration and perhaps puzzle solving would pair well. The story needs a heap of work 'Mysterious Thing contains all hope in world, Mysterious Thing breaks down for you to fix' is boring. Why in the hell should I care? It's just a flimsy pretext to frame the objective. If your game is a single mechanic do it very well (Make Sail is well on the way) but then almost as importantly you MUST have a compelling framing device. Or no one is going to invest into the world past the first couple of plays and that kills word of mouth sales.

I don't dislike Make Sails. As I mentioned before I played for fifteen hours before I finally cracked and decided I knew everything I needed to know, and for most of the fifteen hours I found myself pleasantly enthralled and challenged. The sailing mechanics seem well considered if rough and the building is on it's way to being intuitive and reliable. Visually it's quite striking, a nice art style and color pallet very pleasing on the eye. However I feel like if this is the general concept for the entire future game then it's going to need a good think. The standard cyclical map which forces you to fight an uphill battle both ways in a single direction with the only reward being more struggle and a handful of arguably worse upgrades. There's also a question in my mind of, "where can it go from here". I'm looking it over and after all the sails and engines and boaty parts already here there's no where left to go other than arbitrary small jumps in efficiency. Unless it eventually goes into the sky a bit, that'd be an interesting endgame, leave the sea and take the fight right to those damn winds.

All told, I will keep playing it. I'm not going to demand a refund or poop all over it. I'm also not going to directly suggest it or even mention it in casual passing, it's just not that good and it's future seems foggy. The mechanics and visuals are nice, promising even however I cannot conceive of how this basic framework will become a game. I payed for this entirely aware that I was paying twenty bucks for the (non ironic) honor of alpha testing a mess but it's not a mess, it's a competent work in progress. So, it deserves it's positive recomendation. However I've seen many a competent concept flop hard moving from the base mechanic and taking that mechanic and turning it into a game. So, I'm eager to see how it evolves.

The gameplay is light and refreshing. The world is pretty and nice, and there are things to do.

My only problem with it is that with an i7 7700... it pushes my CPU to 80 degrees and very high usage. I'm not going to melt my CPU for this game, which is unfortunate because literally everything else is great.

If the developer can figure out how to lower the CPU load, I will have no problem unconditionally recommending the game.

Sorry but no.

I enjoy the basic game idea but movement feels buggy and weird, boat hulls sink as if it was made of stone and you need barrels all over the place... there also is no game besides "exploration"... why cant i transport things and earn money to buy new parts? Or have a crew? Also: Islands are too close so theres not much "exploration" you just go 1 or 2 minutes from island 1 to island 2 and thats "exploring"... please get your game together it has much promise!

Make Sail is a game with a delightful building system, very enjoyable content, and a constant stream of updates that continue to make a smoother and more awesome experience. it provides a largely tranquil exploration of a mysterious world that has captivated me from the first time I booted up the game, where you can craft your own ship, and set sail around a map that provides a fair amount of content for the game's value. Though you might question the price tag after your first time around the map, you'll find that you can easily come back a month or two later, and enjoy another refreshing trip around the randomly generated islands, struggling to grab parts for your ship off the back of the newly added turtle islands, or trying to steer your boat away from those goddamn birds.

If you play this, you -will- encounter bugs. If you can't tolerate helping to refine an early access game then this isn't the one for you, but if you're willing to put a little love into the game, join Popcannibal's discord server, and interact with the developers, you can see bug fixes in real time, and join what has been a fantastic community in my experience. I've played this game on and off in periods that are usually a few months apart, and every time I come back to it, the gameplay is much smoother and less buggy.

Though this game is a bit rough around the edges, with its constant updates, replayability, and the quick response to gameplay issues, I would highly recommend it. As previously stated, make sure to join the discord. It's just a click away if you pop into the bug reporting system. Being able to share your experiences, swap designs, and get a quicker response to any bugs you find definitely adds to the fun!

So going into this game, I was sceptable. I was unsure, highly reluctant, and before playing cold war style holding my finger over the refund button. Yet I gave it a chance, and I wasnt dissapointed. Its a very pretty game, relaxing, frustrating, and buggy at a fair few times. However, it is enjoyable to test things, to problem solve things with new ship designs, and to make my own little challenges for myself. This game is new, and starting off and it has a good developer. I would like to assure everyone thinking of buying this that it is not a "I made a pretty here buy it"I see this game turning into a gorgeous breathtaking adventure in the future, and I think its very much so worth sticking around and watching. It may not have much now, but I can gurantee that will change in the future.

This is one of those games which makes me wish for a maybe option when writing a review. The sailing is calm and relaxing, and everything looks stunning, however, do not even attempt to make a ship. I dont think even i've stopped playing a game so quickly. I bought this game becuase it seemed like a great way to relax but the camera controls and snap points when building make me want to slam my head through a brick wall, i can only reccomend this game if you have a lot more paicence than i do, or are willing to ignore that aspect entirely until they make some major changes, until then i'll revisit the game evey once in a while to relax and sail, NOT to build ships.

Update 1: 12 Hours into the game

Ok, so. The game is very relaxing as many people have said. Being able to tweak and change boat design is fun, but a little confusing as well. I am a bit confused as to why boat hulls sink? Most boats become barrel monstrosities. It reminds me a lot of early Kerbal Space Program in the "fun is in the failure" sort of way. I do like the game. No change in build mechanics yet.

Original: 2 hours into the game

Currently an exercise in frustration for trying to build a boat. Controls are odd for build and snap points seem to have a mind of their own.

Needs work....

Will update as the game is worked on.
