Описание

Curiosity is a sign of intelligence.

Journey to a scenic arctic planet inhabited by experimental A.I. units and discarded robots. Play as Sleet, a sentient robot confronted with a series of puzzles and has little idea what's going on. Then meet Floe, an older A.I. unit, willing to help you proceed and unravel the mysteries of this beautiful desolate planet.

Key Features

  • Puzzle Variety: Recourse offers a content rich puzzle solving experience with more than 100 different elements.
  • Length: It takes about 25-30 hours to finish the core game. Unlocking all possible secrets and achievements will take more depending on how good you'll become in the end. The core game consists of 14 large Puzzle maps in addition to 5 Payload and 5 Wave Rush levels.
  • 3 Game Modes: Puzzle, Payload and Wave Rush (read more below).
  • Character mobility: Dash, jet-boost, grapple, and fly your way around the levels to quickly reach any point. You are never ever limited to the ground.
  • Unlockables: You can upgrade Floe, access new levels and if you manage to collect all golden question marks, you'll be awarded with the advanced modules for 'WINTER' - Floe's favourite weapon on the entire planet.
  • Drop-In/Drop-Out Split-Screen Co-Op: A second player can seamlessly join or leave the game at any time to help you.
  • Enemies: If you're ever bored of solving puzzles, you can dive into more action-packed game modes and battle your way through hordes of Failbots to unlock Floe's upgrades.
  • Deployables: You can deploy eight different tools (Circular Saw, Incinerator, Tesla Coil, Laser, Vortex, Point A, Thumper and Singularity) to interact with the environment or counter enemies (find more information below).
  • Environmental Hazards: It's not perfectly safe to wander around though. There are many hazards on the planet. Some of them can be turned on/off and even converted to your side.
  • Color-coded Objects: Blue glowing objects are on your side. Orange glowing objects are on Failbots' side. Yellow glowing objects hate everyone.
  • Achievements as Challenges: There are 53 achievements and many of them are rewarded upon the completion of a specific challenge. Challenges can be viewed at Floe's terminal.
  • More to come: A free map pack is already in the works. It builds on the core game and introduces new puzzle elements and challenges.
  • Small File Size: The total size of the game is less than 500 MB. It may come as a surprise as it's not even in the GBs. This was achieved through an integrated approach that combines good asset management, compression, 3D modelling and lighting features without giving up on production quality.

Game Modes:

There are three game modes in Recourse: Puzzle, Payload and Wave Rush which share elements but have different objectives. Each level contains a certain number of golden question marks that can be collected to ultimately unlock a mysterious weapon called ‘WINTER’.

  • Puzzle Mode: The goal is to solve enough puzzles to reach the final checkpoint. Finishing puzzle levels unlock other game modes and levels. Puzzle levels are very peaceful: there are either very few or no Failbots that would disturb you.
  • Payload Mode: Battle your way through armies of Failbots to collect their CPUs and deposit them to your wagon which must then be escorted to the finish line to complete the level. Deposited CPUs can be spent toward upgrading Floe.
  • Wave Rush Mode: Failbots grow tougher with each wave. You can stay as long as you want or solve your way to the final checkpoint and complete the level when ready.

Deployables:

There are eight deployables that can be deployed to interact with the environment, solve puzzles and counter enemies. Each deployable applies damage in their own way.
  • Circular Saw: Destroys crates (and more) blocking your way. Can be used to box in and damage Failbots.
  • Incinerator: Burns enemies and affects heat-activated objects.
  • Tesla Coil: A ranged tool that damages enemies with electric arcs. It also powers up sockets.
  • Laser: Rotating lasers that damage characters and activate optical receivers.
  • Vortex: Elevates and hurls enemies around. Powers wind-activated objects.
  • Thumper: Screws itself to the floor and launches characters and physics objects in the air. Highly effective in launching enemies toward ceiling hazards or simply cause them falling damage. They can also break apart glaciers blocking your way.
  • Point A: Teleports physics objects and characters to an activated Point B.
  • Singularity: Pulls and traps enemies at its center. Can be used to turn slippery enemies into easy targets or pin them against environmental hazards.

I liked that game, but in 2024 it crashes on my new machine.
Thumb up, because when it worked it was good.

Recourse is a nice diversion in the puzzle game genre.
First of all, let me say that if you're looking for a hardcore-level puzzle game, Recourse is not your cup of tea. Puzzles are intriguing and include a HUGE variety of elements, but they never get particularly frustrating or hard. If anything, they mostly get bigger, with multiple elements needed to unlock a single door; this sometimes can terrify at first sight, but you'll soon be able to separate the various elements (in their dialogues, the two AI even make fun of an "overcrowded" puzzle). The real challenges come when you try to unlock and reach the bonus question marks, which often requires to explore the whole level area to find triggers and rooms.
Other elements such as time races and combat levels also contribute to the gameplay variety.
There is also a story behind the whole thing, but it unravels only if you really make an effort and collect all the bonuses, thus unlocking another kind of challenge that I won't spoil... still, I think some elements in the backstory should have been revealed also throughout the game, instead of being mostly relegated to the very end in tex files. Nevertheless, the dialogues between Floe and Sleet provide quite some fun (and some nerdy quotes).
I liked the game, there's a lot to do and to play. But it's not your usual puzzle game, so going for the demo version before buying could be a good idea.

It's fun to swing around and even though the time trials are very hard I can still enjoy the scenery as I fail over and over and over and over and over and over and over again

Great puzzle game, but not really worth the full price. Pick it up in a sale.

Love this game, it's very unique. Very relaxing and fun. Great graphics, music, and gameplay.

It actually makes me sad to see such little reviews for such a great game. This is one of those instances where if people caught on and actually tried it there would be a overwhelming amount of possitive reviews.

I'll preface by saying that, at the moment, I don't really feel this game is quite worth its asking price; but if you asked me there are very few games I'd say can justify a $40 pricetag. The game doesn't have enough content nor does it feel quite polished enough for what it wants but the devs are active and constantly updating so that could change in the future.

As a puzzle game, this game is... not too hard, really. The puzzles get bigger more than they get trickier, though the later puzzle levels (8 and on) can certainly provide a decent mental workout. But there's definitely a decent bit of variety, up to continuing to introduce elements even in the last levels of the game. And it does feel like every type of puzzle the game presents is developed about as far as it can be, though there are certainly a few that overstay their welcome. There's a nice feeling of progression throughout though, each level is an interconnected hub of smaller puzzles and picking apart one piece unlocks two more, the real joy is finding the ways all the separate pieces interact with each other to get the secret pickups, honestly.

The combat is... a bit weak honestly, since it's all indirect. You throw deployables that do the fighting for you, at least until you unlock the bonus weapon waaayyy near the end of the game that is. There are really only two or three weapons worth using out of the eight available. And the enemies tend to be an annoyance more than a threat. Death is pretty cheap, either just sending you back to a checkpoint with no penalty or dropping all your collected items in the wave rush and payload levels but allowing you to pick up half of them again, and if you're playing it smart you don't keep a large stash anyways. The wave rush levels in particular feel just a bit unnecessary since the combat is never a strong point, but there's few of them and technically you can finish them all in seconds if you want to. The payload levels are a nice change of pace, there's a time limit but not a very strict one and it's easy to extend it as well. I dig this level style a lot more than the wave rush levels. And I do admire that there's diversity in level types, showing off different aspects of the game. The optional race things that appear in every level are another nice little bonus though there's no incentive to beat the best time and trying to do so tends to be the only real source of frustration in the game.

Where the game really works best is in its movement, which is kept consistently fast allowing you to travel large distances with little hassle. And there's even little quirks of the game engine you're expected to discover and exploit a few times. Movement in this game just feels fun, though if you had to be really precise with it I'm sure it'd wear off, but it's distinctly different for a puzzle game. The other aspect of the game that's particularly memorable is the dialogue between the two main characters, which I enjoyed a lot more than I expected to honestly. There's an air of mystery to the overarching plot that plays well into the conversations, a lot of "AI not understanding humans" bits that develop into some serious snark towards humanity by the end and plenty of genuinely funny quips. And there's just, so many dialogues too, I haven't even found them all yet I'm sure, even with how much I have found. There's also some nice little easter eggs tucked away that you can get near the end, they're pretty fun to hunt for and decently clever.

The game also looks pretty solid visually though the game's aesthetic is a bit limited, it kind of wears off after a number of hours playing. And the soundtrack is nice for what it is but definitely a bit restricted, since it's the same set of songs playing on loop for the entirety of the game. You'll probably have them all memorized by the time you beat the game. I eventually just turned the music off and used my own music to stop from going insane.

It's definitely a pretty good game but I wouldn't say it's a great one. Regardless I definitely enjoyed playing it and I would recommend it... on sale.

Update on Feb 1st, 2019:

Hmm... they basically redid a lot of the game. New puzzle elements, completely redone wave rush and payload levels, revamped graphics... I think the graphics are probably more "interesting" than the original graphics were but at the same time they look kind of like rainbow vomit. The real change for the worse is the nerfing of the wave rush and payload levels which are all now basically completely identical, when in the past they were certainly much more interesting, not the best parts of the game sure, but, interesting. Most of the new puzzle elements are interesting enough, too, and while I don't remember the original game quite enough to be certain it feels like there are some quality of life fixes too, less having to follow cables all over the place with the node system in place and a lot more doors that stay open when you unlock them. I'd recommend it still, again not for full price, but it's, fun enough and I enjoyed replaying it well enough.

I have played the game for about 20 hours now. It is a very polished game. I had a few problems that the Devs were quick to fix so I could get back to playing. The puzzles are not overly hard, but satisfying when solving them as a part of a bigger puzzle within each puzzle level. There is a good amount of content that I think justifies the $40 price tag since it also includes a future DLC to further extend the gameplay. I had one game crashing problem that the Devs fixed within a couple of days. They are very dedicated to their game. Try the DEMO and if you like it, buy the game! I don't think you will regret it. I have been enjoying playing it.

Overall Recourse is a fairly good first person puzzle game. It's not overly hard, but gets just the right amount of challenging. There is a satisfying variety of puzzles types and skill progression. It has a nice amount of story and banter spread thoughout.
Most importantly the developer seems active.

I like these types of games and really enjoyed playing it.

I would suggest at least trying the demo which I think the dev did a wonderful job with.

The game is a puzzle game in its nature. You play as Sleet, after a few puzzles you meet up with another robot Ai Floe. So far the story has been great, dialog is fun and keeps at least myself interested in more of the character's interactions.

Puzzles consist of a lot of smaller things, exploring is a big part of each puzzle area in fact.

Puzzles can range from having X buttons pressed, to Less than X press, or More than X pressed. To finding Y object to put within a machine. Some puzzles are small math tests where you do things like use weights that are between 100 xxx 1000. They use this in other places, even with fire, and electricity.

As you progress you get deployables. These are miniture devices you can toss out about 12 or so before they start imploding. These range from saw blades, lasers that rotate, fires, tesla probe. To things with A. to B. icons (haven't used everything yet.)

Along side normal puzzles you have (actually forgot the name) combat rooms. These have puzzles in them, but to get access to them you have to kill enemy bots and gain money to open more of the stage.

The third type of puzzle room I have witnessed is a sort of escort mission, you have a timer, and a device that moves while near it. You have to figure the whole thing out while staying close to the device to keep it moving.

Over all, movement is very fun and insanely fluid. Decent enough settings. Even a 00:00 - 24:00 day light system you get to play with in the settings, want it pitch black set it to midnight. Want a bright day? Set it too noon.

Like I said in my short review. Only major complaint so far is that while it has controller support you can not invert the Y axis at all. (yet, dev already comment saying it would be in the next patch or so)

My experience so far, well worth 40 bucks and I just scratched the surface.

Another thing I forgot to note here. EVERY stage has a way point race on it. Even the combat, and payload missions!
