"Audioshield: Feels like music-melee Missile Command-and we love it" (Ars Technica)
"AudioShield -- a rhythm game -- is HTC Vive's killer app" (Jeff Grubb, VentureBeat)
Experience your entire music collection in VR. Audioshield puts you at the point of impact for every hit in your music. Beats glide in slowly for mellow parts of songs, then ramp up for intense parts of songs with cross-body, double-shield, and high-altitude hits.
Audioshield uses an advanced version of Audiosurf 2's music analysis system to sync with any song from your collection.
Every song has its own online leaderboard. Audioshield also supports local leaderboards to easily compete with friends during look-at-my-awesome-new-VR-system parties.
"Let's punch the hell out of music in virtual reality with Audioshield" (Polygon)
"Audioshield found some neuroreceptor in the deepest cavern of my brain—one that can only be stimulated by an incredible combination of sight, sound, and motion—and flooded it with a sensation that has left me reeling for days." (Ars Technica)
"Fighting Music in VR. This is the coolest sh** ever." (Jericho)
"VR Missile Command inside a neon rave, set to your own music." (PC Gamer)
"The physicality of standing in place to fend off incoming orbs feels powerful" (IGN)
"...your music library comes to life as a fully immersive gaming experience" (UploadVR)

I've had VR since the Oculus DK2 came out. I jumped ship to Vive when the Rift was sold to the evil empire and bought a Vive, then moving to a Vive Pro. I didn't bother moving beyond that because until recently I'd been stuck on a 1080ti. Back in the early days, most of my VR time was spent in Elite Dangerous or PCARS2. And, to be honest, I don't really care for rhythm games.
Flash forward to the Winter Sale 2024. I have just built a new system over Black Friday and was looking for some VR titles on sale. Also, I'm 50 and a bit out of shape, so I wanted something that would get me some FUN exercise. I thought, you know what, I'ma try Audioshield, I remembered it from back in the day and figure, worst case, Steam refunds, right?
The first song I loaded up, made me smile. But playing the game, smacking the hell out of those arrogant blue, red and purple orbs (they think they're SO much better than green, orange & burnt sienna orbs) was super fun. I will DEFINITELY be planning on playing this daily. Curious to see if it will help shed some lbs. But regardless, it IS super fun and I'm betting will be more so once I put some of my own music on the new PC.
I know that at the sale price of $4.99 USD that it's a no-brainer, even all these years later, to pick it up and honestly, I regret not having jumped on this years ago.

A classic!

I know its a very old game, but it was still compatible and I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. It is very sad that this game hasn't been maintained into 2024. It had so much potential to rival Beatsaber and the other rhythm games, purely because it can generate a level from any song on your computer.
Alas it is barebones, stutters on levels with any background other than black(even on lowest graphic settings), hitboxs seem uncomfortable, game makes no effort to avoid nearly impossible notes, and I'm frequently blinded by notes and spark effects and miss what is hiding directly behind, cant change colours (I honestly HATE BLUE in any game in this genre), no option to change menu size or distance (way to close to the eyes and large), and no audio or visual cue for failed/missed hits.
Idk if I missed something, but this was a pretty poor VR experience. The ui is very unconventional and primitive, the gameplay was very lackluster, and playing to the beat never felt very impactful. Even the music was meh. Nothing really to write home about. The shield gameplay would've been great if used in a different game and refined a bit. The core gameplay of the shield feels pretty good, but not enough to redeem the entire game. Overall just feels like a discount Beat Saber and even then it's not worth the $20 price tag. Good thing I got this on sale -.-
Trust me, you will sweat, you will need to... acquire your music, but it is worth every minute.
eeehehe
