Always, forever and a day, I will recommend this game, I've invested 340 hours over since 2010. It is a game to wrinkle your brain again when it goes smooth from the tism.
Bad gameplay. Mouse doesn't make sense but keys don't give you the speed - I just presume whoever made this doesn't play video games, I think evidenced by the fact some of the players are awful, such as the mid mono, the jump is waaaaay too long, a cooling period would of been better. (at least I don't recall there being settings for these)
For many tracks a lot of the blocks don't make any sense, it seems to just spit out a lot of false notes or most the track isn't in sync at all.... Slow parts of songs are boring, but fast parts are often way too crazy, which would be fine if it were a certain setting, but it's pretty impossible to match the upcoming blocks. Waves are really disorientating with a standard monitor setup, doesn't feel right.
The beat is in my soul. If you like rhythm games, this one is hard to beat.
TOP QUALITY MUSIC GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this game in its simplicity.
very enjoyable. i like. that means its good
While the second one is probably a lot better, this is still a lot of fun. I really only like the mono modes though. I don't have as much willingness to put hours upon hours trying to get good at games anymore, so Audiosurf is a great alternative to games like osu! for me. Plus, I'm always playing music I like. It's a great tool to keep your hands busy while you listen to an album without detracting from the experience. It definitely feels like the music algorithm isn't as good as it could be though, as some fast songs feel underwhelming.
This is great, but just spend the extra cash to buy the second one, which goes on sale often.
Got this in some sale a long time ago. Finally decided to try it.
I get to the main menu and press "Play." Nothing happens. I press it again. Nothing happens.
I kept pressing the button and mucking with it for a few minutes but I cannot seem to actually play the game!
Based on the other reviews I have seen this is a common issue. Do not buy this.
UPDATE:
I used the Steam Betas feature to download an older version that works properly. I tried the game, and their algorithm for converting music is pretty janky. Sometimes it works okay, most of the time it is way off. Putting the algorithm aside though, the actual gameplay is really strange. In most rhythm games your actions follow the music. Not so in Audiosurf. Instead you have this stacking block puzzle that is mostly independent from the music. The effect is jarring and I feel like this defeats the whole point of a rhythm game.
Cant get further than the initial menu. Pressing "Play" has no effect, essentially making this game unplayable.
Multiple people have this problem. https://steamcommunity.com/app/12900/discussions/0/4137185692904852383/
Steam Support cant help beyond directing me to reporting the game as broken on its Store Page which I did over three months ago and that app report still hasnt been reviewed according to my Steam Account Data.
The developer website is as barebones as it gets and only links back to the Store Pages of their games.
All in all it was a great game when I was still able to play it but since I cant, Steam wont do anything about it and yet continue to sell it, I cant recommend this anymore.
Felky Fun Meter
|-|---------| [1/10] Meh fun!
Eh.. I only played this because I wanted to listen to my music; the gameplay could have been literally anything.
I don't think collecting coloured rectangles on a bouncy road is very enjoyable :|
We used to really enjoy playing this when we were kids.
It's a very nice game inspired by some really cool older ones.
10/10. If you enjoy music and have a nice collection of tracks, you will really benefit from playing this.
Nice game although a bit dated graphically. If you are into music games check out Beat Hazard (3) which has replaced this game for me.
THIS GAME IS AMAZING
TL;DR: A visually stunning rhythm game where you collect blocks and dodge obstacles to your favorite songs. The simple gameplay is addictive, but manually adding music is tedious. Despite that, it’s a fun challenge for music lovers and high score hunters alike.
🕗 Total time played (approx.): 22h+
🏆 Completion: 100% (19/19 Steam Achievements)
REVIEW:
“Audiosurf” is a game that immediately hooked me. The combination of music and skill makes it a unique experience that impresses above all with its aesthetics. The colorful, dynamic tracks, which adapt perfectly to the rhythm and intensity of the respective music tracks, make for a visual spectacle. What I find particularly cool is that each track looks and feels different depending on which song you choose. This visual implementation gives the game a very special atmosphere.
The game design is simple but incredibly effective: you steer a small ship (or a specific "character") through a track based on the music and have to collect colored blocks while avoiding obstacles. It sounds simple, but the appeal lies in the constant challenge to beat the high score and improve. It's a perfect mix of relaxation and concentration, because while you enjoy the music, you still have to stay alert to achieve the best results.
What kinda sucks, however, was the manual insertion of the songs. In this day and age, when many games rely on simple and seamless integration of content, it takes time and effort to load your own music files into the game, which interrupts the flow somewhat. A Steam Workshop or a similar function that would allow you to quickly and easily add songs from the community would be a great improvement here. This would make the game even more accessible and convenient.
Nevertheless, I had a fair amount of fun with “Audiosurf”. Especially the hunt for high scores and mastering the various achievements brought me back again and again. Each attempt feels fresh because the music changes the experience every time; the game offers an engaging and entertaining gaming experience that will definitly appeal to music lovers and high score hunters alike.

I would recommend the game if I could run it. It used to work but now for some reason it crashes with C++ runtime error (damn C++). I would recommend to run a demo to see if it works for you, if there were a demo.
So if it works for you then I recommend it because the game itself was pretty good, I remember playing it.
YEEHAW
Do you like piloting shit?
do you like music?
do you like raves?
do you ever wish you had safe and legal access to mind altering substances which you could take and then drive on a closed course of your own to your favorite music?
well of course you do! youre an american goddamnit. give audio surf a try, revisit your favorite tracks and get lost in this dope light show, certain tracks do work better than others, but some of the fun is in seeing what the game will create based on what you upload. give it a try, experiment, have fun with it. thats what life should be about
It's working again
Absolutely love seeing the music I enjoy come to life.
Simple game with simple directions.
Depending on your circumstances, the game can be quite therapeutic with the right music.
Highly recommend.
As long as you're online when you open the game you should have no issue playing it these days. I don't really WANT to play online, but hey - I can still play even now.
When I was young I had a visualization of 'riding your music' called the Music's Lifeline. I drew it out, based on songs I was listening to. This game does look and feel so much like it (not entirely) that it always brings a smile to my face even on just a little ride.
no matter how old this game gets, its still the best game ever.
there are no game like this that can just automatically generate a level based off the music you have in your computer.
please tell me there is a mode where you dont have to worry about overfilling any of the slots and can actually hit the blocks
very fun game
highly recommend if you are a fan of video games
Quite good got 1 breakcore song completed with ironmode and with the gold medal.
In my 3 hours (almost) of gameplay I would say this game is pretty good for it being like 15 years old.
I really enjoy playing this from time to time + game feels pretty smooth :D
+rep would play again
The best purchase I ever made and I should have made it sooner.
i remember seeing youtube videos of this game set to The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny and as a kid thought of this game as some unattainable gem. Forgot the name and its existence entirely until about 2 hours ago. my life is forever changed.
Once you switch the color palette to inverted to make the track dark it's a really fun game to play (regular light mode is too bright for me). It reminds me of the screensavers that computers used to have in the early 2000s that would change themselves based on if music was playing. Put on a high pace/upbeat song and the car you drive along the path will speed up as well. It gets hectic but it's fun.
For literally a few quid it's an amazing rabbit hole of Musical racing....
A block-matching puzzle-type game, where the levels are generated completely from whatever music tracks you choose to play. Fast music gets you quick and hectic stages, while slow music lets you ride easy. Excellent replay value, since unlike other music games, you're only limited by the size of your music collection. Also comes with a set of downloadable music updated regularly if you're a boring person and don't have your own music, and you can scrobble the music you play to last.fm if you're into that kind of thing.
