This game holds up today imo. I think if you are someone who can still play games like half-life 1 and FEAR 1 today with a lot of enjoyment, you will also love this game for the same reasons. There is something about these old style fps story driven games that you cannot experience with modern fps story games today. I wish indie devs would dive into making games inspired by these type of games. I know Vladik Brutal recently came out and is inspired by Half-Life and it did well, so it shows a desire for these type of games today.
Half cooked and full of painfully flawed game design choices, Men of Valor is borderline sadistic in it's difficulty; but only difficult because of it's developers ineptitude. 4.5/10

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Roland Shepard:
This is one of the most difficult letters i have been required to write.
This game hasn't aged well. I got sick to death of the sudden deaths from enemies that just all hone in on you and ignore your AI squad. The same AI squad who don't do anything other than force you to take point and yell "help me out Shepherd!".
It was made at a time when a lot of PC first games started to experiment with console first releases. Much like Deus Ex: Invisible War, Call of Duty 3 and Brothers in Arms it features clunky controls, terrible FOV and bloated crosshairs which are woefully innacurate. Oh and 'checkpoints'. Be prepared to repeat the game again and again every time you die or crash.
It's a shame because the Vietnam War doesn't get the same coverage as World War 2 or "Modern Warfare". Viet Cong was another game of the same vintage which is far less arcadey and properly designed to play well on PC. I'd recommend that instead if you're looking for a fun Vietnam shooter.
Giving this game a thumbs up based purely on nostalgia from my ps2 days. On PC its extremely wonky. I realize its on an older game engine (Dating myself on that). I still enjoy it for what it is.
one of the most underrated, fun, best lookin graphics for the time vietnam war game ever, most people hate it because of "ThE GAme iS a lITerAl hALLwaY", "thE gAME is hArd!11!!!" like man the game is not that bad its pretty good it has several realistic elements and even the US, ARVN, & Vietcong/NVA soldiers looks good and pretty close to its real life counterpart
Some people are saying this game is hard, which it sort of is, though I played on medium difficulty, I've seen people complain about the easy difficulty because they died a few times. If you can't play FPS games then don't play this one, let alone any. This game is objectively good for a single-player shooter. If you like the old Call of Duty games, this game is for you.

men of valor has alot of intresting idea's that always misses the mark of executing (sometimes being small and somethings beyond recognition). the game is a mixed between arcady cod and mil sim but it rly misses the mark. the enemy does alot of damage and you will get a game over screen alot. i fully can't recommend except when it maybe on sale or you want to expierence chaotic shooting going from A to B

Positives:
+ Some of the graphics are acceptable (by 2004 standards)
+ Good sound and music
+ Ok voiceacting
+ Footage videos of Vietnam and some of the story
+ The few places/missions that dosent take place in the jungle (cave, base & city)
Negatives:
- The most horrible & unfair difficulty level I have ever encountered (even on easy)
- Cheating AI and ever spawning enemies
- AI is either dumb as f*ck or kills you instantly before you see them (like aim-bots from h*ll)
- Very visible junglewall where you cant cross but enemies will spawn and come out from everywhere, they also shoot from within the wall so you cant kill them
- The health level is a joke (you can be killed in one or two shots)
- You must press and hold F to stop bleeding all the time (or you will loose health)
- Very few checkpoints and no quick save
- The game dosent save all the time, even if it says it does
- Running the game on modern computers is a pain in the a*s (the game dosent appear, gets stuck, resets, exits, blackscreens, video footage not playing etc)
- You will need to search dead bodys for healthpacks and ammo, but the bodys disappear after a little while
- Most of the missions are no fun because of the way enemies "work" and the unfair difficulty level
- You will die, a lot (most likely hundreds of times before you are finished, and I am not joking!)
- A lot of places have constant gunfire but there are no enemies behind it you can shoot
- Extremely linear (if you do the sligthest thing the game dosent want you to, you will die instantly from gunfire of invisible enemies, or if you are lucky you meet invisible walls)
- A lot of bugs and errors (why release a game in this state?)
- You cant jump (making it harder to navigate thru terrain)
- Below pair gunplay
- It will take you much longer to finish the campaign because of all the problems with it
- Extremely frustrating and tendious to play because of the above
- Very bad animations
- Some of the graphics looks very dated (even for 2004)
Wow, just wow! How the h*ll was this game made by the same company that made Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault (& Wages of SiN)?
A very few times I got the MOH vibe, but there were not many. This game is broken, unstable and horribly unfair.
I have never encountered a game made by a (former) respectable company, that resulted in horsesh*t like this.
And who the f*ck thought that making a game so difficult with cheating enemies and constant dying was a good decision?
I have no idea, but those were not men of valor, thats for sure. I now understand why 2015 never made a game after this one, its unexcusably bad. I know there are not many Vietnam FPS games, but unless you want to torture yourself, just stay out of this one. There are way better games. I only completed the campaign because of my stubbornness, and not because it was fun. Avoid, even if you get it for free (....I cant believe I paid for this cr*p!)
Total Score: 3.5/10 (and Im being kind here)
Many bugs (50% chance of starting or not, stuttering, enemies respawning infinetely in some missions until you restart the game...)
Inconsistent difficulty (enemies either don't shoot or have autoaim and kill you in a few shoots)
Missions of 20-25 minutes, divided in several stages. If, for some reason, you have to leave before completing the mission, the progress will not be saved and you will have to start the mission from the beginning
Sparse checkpoints (tho, this is to be expected in a game from 2004)
The game was released in 2004, yet it lags behind many others game of that time, such as Halo (2001), TimeSplitters 2 (2002), Call of Duty (2003), XIII (2003), Half-Life 2 (2004), Doom 3 (2004), or FEAR (2005). All of them feel more polished than this. Even Half-Life (1998) does
A remake could work wonders for this game, but after 20 years I have no hope. Shame, it has some interesting mechanics (healing, aiming) and I would like more shooters that are not WW2, "Modern Warfare" or "Near Future Sci-Fi"
If you still want to give it a try, you will probably end up needing to use God Mode. Use TAB and type Dinkydau

Men of Valor is one of the rarer first person shooters set during the Vietnam war. It's from 2004 so it's extremely dated and clearly developed for consoles, but I figured it could be fun to come back to this era of game.
To cut the BS though, this game sucks. There are plenty of other better military shooters but the reason I kept giving it a chance is the theme. Beggars can't be choosers for this time period and there's only a handful of these games out there (Vietcong, Shellshock, Line of Sight, etc.) and even fewer on Steam. I can't compare this one to any of those others yet, though I'm willing to bet they're better.
Men of Valor goes back and forth between being too easy and too hard, but the kind of hard that's totally unfair to the player. Enemies are really inconsistent where sometimes they have perfect sight/accuracy through trees and bushes, other times they are really stupid and stand right next to you completely missing. Some levels you die over and over, others you waltz around no big deal. And these levels are really bland. Maybe they get better later on, but it's nearly on rails forest sections that all look the same. The shooting mechanics are passable at best with little impact and weird control choices that were clearly remnants of being developed for a console. The health system is unbelievably bad: you have health pickups like many of these older shooters, but on top of this if you get hit you bleed and have to bandage by holding F for a bit. This only regains some of the health, overall reducing it and you need to find a medic kit or canteen to regain. These aren't that common so sometimes you have to go around to every dead body, "search" them for a couple seconds, and hope to get a little health back. A couple shots can nearly kill you and add the stupid bleeding effect, health is a really dumb and unfun thing to juggle in this game. I could have tolerated most of this if it weren't for the terrible save system. There are no saves and only occasional checkpoints that sometimes seem so spread out. Sometimes you lose a lot of progress and have to restart entire levels. I checked out after a two hours of this.
And this is not me bitching about an old game being old. I can replay Call of Duty 1/2 and Medal of Honor Allied Assault over and over; my biggest issue is that this was developed for consoles on top of being an old game, so it just feels that much worse than some other games. As a sidenote, I was actually shocked to find this was the same team that also made MoH:AA, because this captured none of that magic.
Yet again I will bemoan Steam's binary review system, because while this is a really mediocre game, it's still fun at times. I think a lot of the positive reviews are people who enjoyed this back in the day. If you have a high frustration tolerance you could probably get through this in 6-8 hours but this wasn't grabbing me. Oh well, at least it's cheap.
Definitely cannot recommend this game. What would have been an absolutely amazing view on the Vietnam War is absolutely ruined by incompetent devs. Absolutely amazing music makes you feel like you're playing a war movie and a large variety of kick ass weapons that sound great. The problems? SCATHINGLY hard on EASY. Riddled with bugs, have to fight it to even get it to start, constant crashes. Such a shame. Besides those few good things, this game is steaming hot shit buried underneath the stinkiest garbage you can find. Don't bother with this, there's much much better war games and shooters out there.

Constant never ending spawning VC,terrible gunplay,crashes. With that being said this is one of the most fun Vietnam shooters released. Its can get really rough but I for a setting like Vietnam this is pretty good for what it is.
