I have PTSD from those damn kamikaze enemies thanks to this game
This game was a huge part of my childhood—pure nostalgia! The levels are top-tier, and the graphics still hold up surprisingly well. I’d seriously recommend it to everyone.
I like this game. Shoot monsters. That's it lol.

Essence of my youth, Signet of the best days ever. First Encounter.
Good game. Played on hard. The enemy spawns and traps can feel cheap and frustrating at times. But when u get in the flow the combat still holds up. Good enemy variety. The shear amount of enemies u face can feel obnoxious at times but most of the time it just makes it chaotic and fun. Also lots of cool easter eggs and secrets u can find.

This game gave me prostate cancer!!!
One of the first games I got as a kid. One of the best retro shooters out there.
Fun to play

If you alt-tab and notice your game is paused and can't resume it, hit the pause-break key on the right side of your keyboard. (RIP if you don't have a full-size keyboard but it's rebindable)
Also if you play on a modern 16:9 display be sure to turn off widescreen otherwise the display output gets crushed and displayed incorrectly.
Game is super charming and definetly worth a dollar on sale. IMO the original versions of the first and second encounter is the best.
banger fps. 8/10
The first entry of the serious Sam series and is good
This game is the best.
Probably the best Serious Sam game. Lots of big fights, trapped ammo/health pickups, and silliness. You need to quicksave often because the game isn't remotely fair. The first few levels are a bit slow and annoying because you don't have all the weapons yet.
Unless you're playing on tourist/easy, the gameplay isn't just dumb shooting. You have to prioritize enemies and switch weapons constantly, otherwise you will get overwhelmed. It is a unique type of gameplay.
Compared to the "Classics: Revolution" version: this one works better.
Compared to the HD version (or Fusion), this original version has a few gravity gimmick rooms that weren't ported over. It doesn't matter much.
Compared to The Second Encounter, this has fewer enemy types and weapons, and only one setting (Egypt), but more big difficult fights.
Compared to SS2, this is much less goofy.
Compared to SS3 and later, this has no NPCs talking in your ear, no running, ~no reloading, no aim-down-sights.
If Duke Nukem is nut, then Serious Sam is post-nut. No babes needed. Babes only hold you back. All you need is action. F--k yeah!
.
Serious Sam, the game that defined a generation of PC shooters. I have beaten the First Encounter like I think 9 times on the different versions, but getting this for mods and stuff is a good decision. Overall you should totally play this game, it's worth it to play the classic first.
Seriously fun
Really solid, high action, snappy first person shooter. Great sound design, great level design, great game play and honestly really good graphics for its time.
The only issues i have are the following
- half the levels (when talking about enemy placement) honestly feel like the devs went "wouldn't it be funny enough if-" and repeat
- wayyyyyy too many enemies spawning behind you (with zero sound cue)
- Too. Many. Kleers.
- controls are quite honestly god awful, but i guess the did the best they could at the time?
Overall solid 7/10
One of the best games released at the time, the Serious Engine was a huge development for FPS games and Serious Sam still remains one of the best obscure genres. Serious Sam Classic: The First Encounter takes you back in time to ancient egypt, where you play as Sam "Serious" Stone, who has been sent back in time to retrieve an alien spaceship and defeat the main evil oppressors. The gameplay is very smooth, graphics are amazing for 2001, music is very atmospheric and amazing, from drum beats, to rock music, the music always lands well. The enemies are all fairly balanced (Kinda), some involve simple dodging, while others require specific tactics and weapons to defeat, but the thing is, that you're fighting at least 100 enemies all at once, very chaotic yet very fun, the weapon arsenal is diverse, spanning revolvers, shotguns, rocket launchers, minigun, laser gun and even a cannon. The best part of Serious Sam is definitely the secrets, you can find neat little easter eggs, or free loot if you decide to do puzzles or explore things a little further. Overall this is an amazing game to get, even if it's not on sale. One thing that isn't mentioned is that if you purchase this game, you will also get Serious Sam Classic: The Second Encounter, which is the sequel, and Serious Sam Classics: Revolution, which is a refined combined version of both games with mod support, all for free! This game is a masterpiece.
if u dont fw sam stone r u even serious

Hello everybody, PurplePike here. For anybody unfamiliar with me, allow me to introduce myself. PurplePike's my name, and sniffing glue while writing reviews is my game. I've recently (last year or so) decided that my Steam backlog was getting too big, so instead of playing Terraria and TF2 for another thousand hours each, I figured I'd go through and play all the games I have but hadn't played yet. In the last episode of my journey, I played Serious Sam 3, a game that drove me so crazy that they had to send me a mental asylum as I (allegedly) screamed about "the Kleers" and "the Barons of Hell", whatever that means. For anybody more interested, my doppelganger and "higher" half Ybrik66 posted a review on my account while I was institutionalized.
After having "been released" from my stay, my first order of business was to research what other people had to say about Serious Sam 3. While many of the reviews were mixed to positive, a common throughline was that the classic games, Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Serious Sam: The Second Encounter were the "best" Serious Sam games. Thus, to see if Serious Sam was ever "good", or if Serious Sam fans are just a group of mental people, I decided to pick up these two classic games and give them an honest college shakedown.
How is Serious Sam: The First Encounter, then? Well... it's actually pretty good! Now, if I were given the option to play this or a more "traditional" boomer shooter such as Dusk or the original DOOM, I'd probably pick the latter genre, but Serious Sam is a unique and fun gaming experience that has its moments and stands in stark contrast to what I imagine most would consider the, "Good Boomer Shooter (TM)" formula. Colorful environments, fun guns, a roster of tough (and mostly not bullshit) enemies, and a dank setting in Egypt make for a great and seriously good time!
The one thing I'll say here is that, at least compared to The Second Encounter, this game is definitely a little rough around the edges. It feels as if this weapon roster is missing a weapon or two to deal with some niche situations, for example. Perhaps the biggest representation of this, however, are the secrets. Why the fuck do they spawn a rocket-launching bullet-sponge dumbass-looking enemy right behind me after I pick up a singular point of health in a fuck-off corner? I mean come on, these developers can't be serious with that shit.
TL;DR: Serious Sam 3 is bad, but this game is seriously some good fun. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some doctors to hide from. Enjoy!
This is a good dad game on a lower end PC. Just be prepared to savescum if that's your thing, otherwise if you die, you have to start over at the beginning of the level as there aren't any lives to pick up. Side note, this game is different from the classic Xbox Serious Sam.
The game can be a challenge because there was a difficulty spike once health and ammo started to get scarce towards the latter quarter of the game.
It took me 5:42 hours to complete the main story. I did not bother to complete anything else. Below is the average amount of time you will spend in the game. Your mileage may vary.

The unfortunate thing is there wasn't much humor in this game. If I remember correctly, the classic Xbox version had more humor in it. I recommend this game if you need to turn your mind off and just want to run and gun.
still an amazing game after all the years
Well it only did one thing, but it's the thing I knew it was known for, so I can't really fault it for that.
Sam Stone
Came home
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas
And the time that he served
Had shattered all his nerves
And left a little shrapnel in his knee
But the sequels weren't the same
And we played another game
And Croteam kept on reeling out the slack
Like developers with an IP on their back
There's a hole in public taste
Where all the money goes
Jesus christ died fer nothin
I suppose
And the classics have long lives
That the sequels cut like knives
But those first few were good when new
And our standards weren't so low
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Seriously challenging!
Final boss had me alittle intimidated, just had to watch an actual fan of the classic game finish him off for me to feel more confident about it.
If you will play any serious sam game, this will be your first choice or the HD version.
But please, do not start on serious mode, you'll regret it.
After all those years, it's still an amazing FPS experience that requires quick thinking about which weapon to choose in different situations. The music is especially good and really adds to the atmosphere, as in all Serious Sam games.
This is getting pretty... SERIOUS (TITLE CARD)
Certainly a serious game with very serious enemies and serious bossfights
an incredibly impressive game for the time and still holds up very well today. also the levels that take place within temples surprisingly atmospheric.
Serious Sam is seriously a great game. Always in the mood to shoot canons and dodge suicide bomb guys.
Yummers.
9/10
one of the greatest shooters of all time
I mean, I guess if you need this game, it's here.
A Classic FPS Arena that never gets old, this is serious sam the first encounter
It's a good Game and not too difficult on this first game in the Series.
There are plenty of enemies to keep it exciting and to survive.
I would give it a 9/10.
Thanks
It's old, but gold. Not without flaws, but still a grand ol' time.
IF YOU WANNA GET SERIOUS, BUY THIS GAME.
Interesting game. Would give it a 7/10,
My real name is Sam, and I'm being serious when I tell you that this is a great game.
I might be a little biased because I'm a casual ancient Egyptian architecture enjoyer, but I still think you should try this out if you haven't already.
She classic on my Sam till I serious
It's just good silly fun.
i got little bit serious hehe
