Stronghold Crusader HD (2012)

I remember playing this game back in 2012, such good memories. Game is old yet the playstyle is amazing. Really fun game def buy it.

I really enjoyed playing this game again - one of my favourite childhood games!

Stronghold Crusader is my favorite in the Stonghold series of games. The back story is loosely based on historical events and the characters and game progression make sense in a way that they don't in the original Stronghold game. The resource gathering and building mechanics is excellent. The battle mechanics is not as good as some other games more focused on medieval battle simulations perhaps but over all, Stonghold Crusade is a good buy and I really recommend it.

Pretty fun RTS. Kind of limited in terms of units but I enjoy the resource management, castle building, and different maps that test your ability to handle different terrains and natural resources surrounding you. There is a single player mode where you can either do random missions or play semi historic missions that follow different periods of the crusades. Would recommend :D

Don't buy. At some point in, about 10 missions in, this so-called 'game' starts "flashing" whatever is in the background of your desktop if there's even anything at all and there's no way to stop it. It becomes really annoying after a while. If anything steam and the devs should pay us users to play this "game" in the state it's in now. Hopefully the "definitive edition" will fix it. I'd like a refund but I went over the limits.

A very fun game about the very based and completely justified Crusades.

I've played for 16 hrs already, shouldn't that say enough! They're coming out with a new one in July 2025, and I bought a hard copy of this game so I'm never without it again. 10/10

played an original CD copy when i barely knew how to use a computer, honestly as psychotic as this might be to some people i consider this the best RTS game of the entire genre. it just barely supersedes C&C for me and its solely the castlebuilding that does it for me, i have played this game over the course of my entire life on and off.

I have probably put several thousand hours into this game if you count all of the hours I spent on it off and on through all 4 years of high school. This was one of my favorite games of all time. My wife still makes jokes about "wood needed" because I think I drove her insane with it. LOL Definitely recommend 110%. This was a blast from the past. Fantastic.

This game will be hard to do and will take long to beat. But in those times there is a addict that wakes up in you and will never stop

I've spent hours looking online on how to get the game to open, no way i can recommend a game that doesn't even open and nothing online fixes the issue. Don't waste your money.

The multiplayer is insane.

The voice acting in this game is top notch. Ever wondered wondered what it was like to listen to someone get burned alive? How about the sound someone makes when they've met their untimely demise from being struck by a stone thrown from a sling? No? How about the sound of one choking and gargling on their own blood as they're cut down to size from the steel of a fierce knight or bludgeoned to death by an English man flailing a mace? Also no? Well that's good to hear. However, if you're looking for a challenging RTS, then look no further. Build your army. Siege you enemy. Take no prisoners. The horns of glory await you, my friend.

Feels weird being prompted to write a review about the original Stronghold Crusader.
It's Stronghold Crusader. It's THE medieval RTS game right after Age2, there's nothing else on this level.
It's just objectively good. I don't need to sell this to anyone. If you don't play this, that's your problem.

Once you understand the game you cant stop playing it 10/10

Its old! But fun! The new merc troops give the game new troops and strats to play with other than that is stronghold... whats not to like!

For the younger crowd the controls, layout and graphics might not be what they are used to. But at the core is a great game.

Peak Stronghold, the 2nd and strangely enough last good stronghold game to ever be released aside from a certain remaster

Classic Strategy game, I remember growing up on this playing it on my Dads XP Desktop.

One of the best RTS in existence. It is an experience that you must have once in your lifetime.

Great classic RTS, up there with age of empire and age of mythology.

This was the game of my childhood. I have spent thousands of hours playing Stronghold Crusader (even more if we're also counting Stronghold, Stronghold 2, Legends etc) and it was simply the best game in existence for me.

Now, with the Definitive Edition on the horizon, I'm more hyped than ever. The original Stronghold Crusader is well worth the money, and despite owning the physical Stronghold Collection I bought the game on sale for like ~3€ anyways.

Maybe its not the best game ever made objectively, but for me it will always be. Thank you Firefly for creating this absolute RTS gem!

9/10 Stronghold Crusader HD is an iconic castle simulator with real time tactics and over one hundred missions to play and siege your opponents. A little outdated but plenty nostalgic.

My takeaway: Stronghold Crusader HD is one of those games you can spend many hours in and does a great job and both slow and fast paced playing styles. The surprisingly active community is testament to how iconic and great this title is considering it came out several decades ago. The music, UI, visuals, and gameplay all run smoothly and work together to create the atmosphere of a distant Arabic land. It’s fascinating finding new ways to lay siege on opponents, both real and AI, and think of new and innovative ways to play. Coupled with the level editor; the game really encourages the player to think outside the box and come up with elaborate ways to win. Missions and campaigns provide an entertaining and challenging component to the gameplay which is sure to leave someone playing for hours if they enjoy sandbox strategy resource management games and don’t mind the outdated artstyle. There are no achievements and I ultimately played nearly 70 hours before growing tired of the game.

If aesthetics are super important to you- the outdated artstyle can definitely prove to be difficult to get past. It’s ugly; and even with the high resolution HD graphics it obviously falls way behind newer games of this genre. Some voice lines are also repeated constantly and can get annoying when you very well know that wood is needed.

Stronghold Crusader HD is worth it at full price and a no-brainer on sale.
