9/10 Stronghold Crusader HD is an iconic castle simulator with real time tactics and over one hundred missions to play and siege your opponents. A little outdated but plenty nostalgic.
My takeaway: Stronghold Crusader HD is one of those games you can spend many hours in and does a great job and both slow and fast paced playing styles. The surprisingly active community is testament to how iconic and great this title is considering it came out several decades ago. The music, UI, visuals, and gameplay all run smoothly and work together to create the atmosphere of a distant Arabic land. It’s fascinating finding new ways to lay siege on opponents, both real and AI, and think of new and innovative ways to play. Coupled with the level editor; the game really encourages the player to think outside the box and come up with elaborate ways to win. Missions and campaigns provide an entertaining and challenging component to the gameplay which is sure to leave someone playing for hours if they enjoy sandbox strategy resource management games and don’t mind the outdated artstyle. There are no achievements and I ultimately played nearly 70 hours before growing tired of the game.
If aesthetics are super important to you- the outdated artstyle can definitely prove to be difficult to get past. It’s ugly; and even with the high resolution HD graphics it obviously falls way behind newer games of this genre. Some voice lines are also repeated constantly and can get annoying when you very well know that wood is needed.
Stronghold Crusader HD is worth it at full price and a no-brainer on sale.

Great strategy and my favorite at the same time. I especially liked the campaign structure without unnecessary running around of characters like in other RTS.
Brilliant game.
For me this game is really nostalgic but also one of the best strategic games. I still play it after 20+ years, thats how it is good. Simple and fun.
It's says I played for 4 hours. But I played this game like one thousand hours... Like when gpu was 512mb hard core... and now i played this game using only cpu... thats fucking madness. fuck I love this game.
Has better multiplayer but a worse campaign compared to the original stronghold.
If you prefer a more mediaval atmosphere play the original, if you like to play more against bots and online (and also maybe like the desert theme more) play this.

I always have a great time playing this game. I absolutely love it.
Best castle simulator game I've played. I had the original game on CD-ROM when it came out. I've played an outrageous number of hours both on and off Steam.
I love how easy to comprehend and understand this game is. each opponent employs different tactics and the challenge increases as you progress but there is a limited variety of troops and buildings which keeps the complexity of gaming simpler.
Simple strategy game that is still enjoyable
This game is literally older than me and it's still one of the best out there. Great job by an indie company. Sadly there isn't a reliable way of playing it with friends. The game recommends using Gameranger but it's an extremely sketchy and unstable platform.
Definitely one of the best strategy games I have ever played.

Probably the best of the Stronghold series (though the first was good, and Kingdoms wasn't bad), this one gives you a nice pace (adjustable) with lots of interesting things to do along the way. Surviving early can be a challenge, but doing so and then crushing your opponents makes up for it. Archers are key to longevity ... maybe too much so.
Classic strategy, still fun & beautiful to this day and will always be.

Clasic, great campaign
Balancing your economy isn’t just a side task, it’s survival. Mismanage your bread and cheese production, and suddenly your peasants are rioting instead of manning the walls. And speaking of walls, designing the perfect castle layout is so satisfying. Will it hold against a swarm of ladder-wielding enemies? Probably not, but hey, it looked great.
Combat feels strategic in all the right ways. Carefully placing archers on your towers or baiting enemies into a death trap of boiling oil never gets old. Plus, the way units shout commands or villagers grumble when overworked gives the game personality.
Also, Multiplayer only works over LAN. No online matchmaking or modern features.

a true classic rts worth every cent, it may be old but it holds up really well and is among the top rts of all time with the likes of civ5 and empire earth

Been a stronghold fan for a very long time. Before Steam was a thing. Stronghold Crusader has been one of my favorite all time RTS games. The castle building fulfills my dreams with plenty of combat and economic depth that is somehow still simple and not too hard to manage. Thank You FIREFLY STUDIOS for this game.
This is one of the most amazing games that I've ever played. Tbh, it's very old, but soooo good! Sometimes you need a bunch of people to kill some of the opponents. Some of the tough guys have their strategy to build their castle that are so great built you need to think how to arrive to their king. The Pig & Sultan are the most easy opponents you can defeat; their castle is never so good built, so you don't have to think very much how to get to the king. I always send assassins. Get the game while it's on sale!
