this game is put together so well. it offers a perfect blend of imagination and experience. the artwork and music are amazing too. 11 bit studios is a well rounded game maker.

Once you finally get to the ending of the main campaign, the feeling of victory is overwhelmingly satisfying. Definitely an unforgettable experience and a must try!
Tried Frostpunk during a discount, and it’s amazing! I avoided this game for far too long, thinking it wouldn’t suit my taste, but wow, how wrong I was.
I really enjoyed the strategy and tactical thinking/planning needed in this game in order to win it. It was a challenge and the game has been incredibly well balanced. I would recommend it to anyone who likes strategy/survival style games - it has been surprisingly addictive.
This game is extremely fun. If you ever wanted to be the supreme ruler of a civilization, enjoy managing resources, and making difficult decisions that will have a great impact on your survival, this game is for you. You can be a leader that provides hope for your citizens, or a dictator that executes citizens nightly in order to keep the rest obedient. Up to you!
I bought this game around 2017 and died a bunch of times and got frustrated and decide to play other games. About 5 years later, I decided to give it another try since I had nothing else to play. Once again, I died several times. Then I discovered there was an easy setting. Once I changed the setting, I beat the game and unlocked other levels, etc, which made it way more fun. If you like a challenge, buy this game. My recommendation is to start off on easy and work your way up.
The game is fun but the game glitches and freezes with playing the cutscenes like starting up the game showing company logo and and when it plays cutscenes. Plus the game makes my PC really hot even on low settings with a powerful PC. Plus the Xbox controller support is clunky and doesn't work the best.
I first played this game in console, few years back. loved it, so I purchased it on pc +dlc.

The game is epic. The set and setting makes for a difficult and intriguing experience. I love city builders and this one feels well designed when it comes to that aspect of the game. The voice acting and the animation style all are exquisite. i cant speak for replay value as the main game mode ends when you complete the story but there are DLC that (kinda) add replay value. I've got my $5.99 worth though, that's for sure.
Characters die/get sick for no reason too often. The game is flat out not fun.
I was always on the fence when going to buy this game so when I got it on sale I decided to try it and was impressed by how fun it was. It felt like alot at first because I placed things in very bad places but I managed to pull through near the end and the music on top of how much tasks I was juggling it was so tense and satisfying making it to the end

This is a great take on the city building genre.
Unlike a lot of games that force a morality decision on you, if you're good at this game, you get to pick the morally correct option. It is very satisfying.

The feeling of winning a scenario is so exhilarating. The intricate details make the experience something you almost feel attached to. I recommend this game for anyone who wants a challenge.
Adverts then more adverts ... I am sure there is a gamer inhere somewhere. Bit concerned as to the 'phoning home' nature of this game. Privacy matters.
so... its a nice city builder with some strong aesthetics, primary focused in "telling a story".
but, the worst sin this game commits to, its linearity, cities have only one logical conclusion, only one possible balance, and that makes it replaying it a boring experience.
so, it doesn't tick that neuron activation of feeling your city is yours, its more about minmaxing that letting the player go wild.
well.. you could argue, that's was the idea, that to bring storytelling to city building linearity was a necessity.
but if thats the trade for telling a story, then write a book, make a netflix series, but in a building simulator, linearity only means boring.
and that for me is a missed opportunity. this is a strong game, but really bad directed.
I received a key as part of the Yogscast Jingle Jam 2024 Games Collection. Firstly, thank you for working with such a great group and supporting some very deserving charities! Secondly, the game is great fun. Balancing the needs of your citizens with resources and having to make tough decisions to ensure the survival of your settlement. Having new randomised POI's for scouts after each storm keeps you wanting to explore.
Keep your people warm, bellies full, and happy. Be kind to people and dont be a dick. Watch the world go to -70 celcius and everyone freezes to death and start a new game.

I like to play this game in the winter and open up my window to let the cold in so that i can feel 10% of the discomfort that these people feel everyday. The game is great, it’s a hard, stressful and frustrating. "THE CITY MUST SURVIVE" i tell myself while making the most morally abhorrent decisions. 11/10 will make the children work 24hrs shifts in coal mines again.
A rather rigid and difficult, yet addictive resource management game with great atmosphere.

This game become unplayable after building a device known as the Beacon. 11bit has been made aware of this fact for over a year at the time of this comment. On every single post they leave the same statement encouraging people to use troubleshooting methods that do not work. While it is a wonderful game before this point in the plot, there seems to be no plan to fix the game by 11bit and it sounds as if Frostpunk 2 is the operates with the same quality. I would recommend purchasing something else until 11bit delivers on a stable version of this game.
I enjoyed 51 hours of this game, but out of nowhere, this game just stopped launching. I click Play, it appears to start loading, but then the blue "stop" button goes back to the green "play" button again. I have verified the game files, uninstalled/reinstalled the game, uninstalled/reinstalled Steam, reinstalled/updated all my drivers, reinstalled/repaired all Microsoft C++ Redistributables, restarted my PC, made sure no peripherals were plugged in, and repeated these processes multiple times, and this is still the only game in my entire roster that simply will not launch, for seemingly no reason. Nothing new has been installed since the last time it was run. I've Googled the issue to bajeesus and back, tried everything I could find that worked for everyone else, and still nothing. The only thing I haven't done is reformat my entire PC (which I will not be doing, since there is no evidence to support that will fix the issue).
I guess my Frostpunk days are just over...
I like alot about this game but god damn it is hard. The game basically just boils down to trial and error with very little breathing room. The game is less of a city builder and more of a puzzle game not in a good way. I love the music, atmosphere, animations, and story. like it is all good. But this game is just so damn frustrating to play. This game is brutal. I dont know how many times ive ran through all the scenarios just to restart.
FP is amazing strategy game with survival, and tough moral choices in a frozen post-apocalyptic world. The design create a great atmosphere. This game’s difficulty demands meticulous resource management and presents thought-provoking decisions with far-reaching consequences and you can lose very easy.
Though challenging, the satisfaction of leading your city through crises makes it incredibly rewarding. Frostpunk is a must-play for strategy enthusiasts seeking depth, challenge, and emotional impact.

I am not good at city builders or real time strategy, so this one sat in my Steam library for quite a while before I decided to pick it up. This game to me is stressful but in a good way; you really do feel the tension and hopelessness that your citizens often do. Learning from my past mistakes and failed saves was my best friend. Fantastic game with an incredible art style and game systems.
Nice concept but frustratingly hard.
So, I had heard of this game before playing it but I had never looked it up or seen anything about it. I knew it was a colony sim/strategy game of some sort but I knew very little else. I recommend approaching the game this way, if you can, because it is a ROLLER COASTER to go into blind. First and foremost, even on easier difficulties, this game is very thoroughly and punishingly challenging unless you know what you're doing, which I did not know nor was I prepared for, but I love the game regardless. It's one of those games you have to fail repeatedly to get better and experiment with the mechanics to optimize and plan-out the game. The only word of caution: The setting, story, and basis are BLEAK and depressing, at times, so if you're not prepared for survival against all odds in a world that wants you to struggle, you might not be ready for this game. Otherwise, I strongly recommend it, remember to adjust the difficulty if it's your first time, I know I needed to.

Forgot to save and lost around 4 hours of progress because I royally messed up and got banished by my people. Kind of heartbreaking but I do love games that make you face the consequences of your own actions and don’t hold your hand as if you’re staring at a screen for the first time in your life.
My house is also absolutely freezing right now so I’m getting a lovely extra layer of immersion for free. However, I’m thankfully nowhere near -70°C. No idea how my city manages to stay this hopeful. Pretty sure I’d just go to sleep.. permanently.

I played through it without hesitation and I enjoyed every bit of it, even the failures.
I can't believe the 2nd one moved away from this formula.

At first I thout it was just nice, but it's growing on me and I'm starting to find more interest in it. it's hard, and it's getting harder.
One of the best games I've ever played. I love the idea of city builder and survival games, but usually I lose interest after a while because they start feeling monotonous and aimless. Not with Frostpunk. The scenarios keep pressure on and give external goals to work towards, and since each one is a self-contained story the game ends before it can start to drag. Each scenario uses the same mechanics but in different ways with different goals, so they all feel fresh, and I enjoyed replaying to try different approaches.
The mechanics are really well balanced and well thought out. Game gives you enough info to figure things out on your own without too much hand-holding. I especially like the way it forces the player to confront moral and practical choices with much more nuance than I expected - there are few clear "right vs wrong" decisions, and everything has consequences. I appreciated having to balance not only the physical resources of my colony, but also the hope and discontent of the people in it.
Pros: challenging resource management/survival, flexible approaches and strategies, interesting scenarios, gritty steampunk vibe without getting too grimdark, tough moral choices with nuanced consequences, good replay value, excellent music
Cons: some scripted events feel a bit random and can spoil achievements, even though you can view individual colonists there's no way to control them as individuals (i.e. assigning specific work tasks, sending someone to medical treatment, etc)

Awesome game, visually very original, appealing and sometimes pretty confronting story-line, heartbreaking one moment , euphoric the next. Sounds are amazing and making the experience more engaging, the ice sound effect even sound cold.. hows that possible :)
for me this is very unique for a strategic game, makes me play more and try to fine different outcomes and check different scenarios.
I had to restart the game twice... and tried different approach each time. Aggressive once, balanced the other time... and finally just trying to catch up with the issues. When you think you have fixed one thing, something completely unexpected comes up (-60 degrees and no way to heat). There is no difficulty setting either so everyone has to play in hard more (because this game is hard). Graphically its beautiful but I don't play games that stress me out. So deleted after 5h.
game is only ok. I recommend but get on sale. I didn't dump a lot of time into it, didn't grab me.
this game explores the uncomfortable choice of just how far humanity will go for the sake of survival. but it's okay because I would never abuse my political power and can be trusted with emergency powers haha
It is difficult but ina good way and has no real good or bad option and actual benifits when you do something imoral.
