Описание

Legends of Dawn Reborn invites players to the brutal northerly reaches of Narr. Survival depends on your magic, your sword, and your wits.
Legends of Dawn Reborn takes place in a world of Narr and events take place before those from Wave of Darkness released on Steam Early Access in June.
What makes Legends of Dawn Reborn unique is an ability to play without restrictions. The world of Narr is a huge place, where you won't stumble upon "invisible walls", or loading screens.
The world of Narr spans across continents through stunning picturesque landscape that stimulates the mind. There are magical regions where the mountains and hills defy gravity, buoyant as balloons. We have also created countless dungeons awaiting for you to discover what mysteries lie within their cold depths, as well as camps, impressive docks and grim fortresses that bear silent witness to battles. Mausoleums and cemeteries also await your exploration.

Furthermore, the choices you make during game play does not prevent you from trying something else later, or simultaneously if you wish. You are able to play with the classes and combine sword with magic. The choice is entirely up to your creativity.
But, bear in mind. All those beautiful landscapes hide a mysterious darkness that has spread from the ancient battlefield of Ashglades; warping and poisoning every creature in its path, creating bloodthirsty monsters.

What is Legends of Dawn Reborn

Legends of Dawn Reborn is a re-release of our first RPG title, Legends of Dawn. While we were developing Wave of Darkness, the engine and RPG systems were dramatically improved, so that instead of patching original game we realized that we’d be able to offer much better gaming experience if we take over its content to the new engine and adapt it to the new RPG system rather than to patch it.

The response to Wave of Darkness during Early Access development phase was very encouraging. The players liked the improvements and in general loved the game much more than the original Legends of Dawn, so we decided to discontinue it and re-release it revamped with the new engine and RPG system “under the hood” so here is the list of differences and similarities:

Massive Inventory and Items Upgrades:

One of the biggest concerns players had was item management. We introduced runes as the main component required to craft spells and other resources such as metals, bones, wood and herbs used to craft other items. Players collected all of these resources extensively.
This resulted in players having almost all of the inventory space spent on resources of one kind or another. To add insult to injury, there was limit in number of inventory slots and maximum weight players could carry.

First of all, there is a change in the way inventory works. Players can now expand their inventory so that they can carry much more items. Bags can be bought in stores or you can find them in various itemholders (chests, locked crates, on bodies of defeated humanoids etc). Each bag expands your total inventory space. This way you can expand your starting inventory that has approximately 14 slots to one that has gargantuan 1000+ slots. This means players can carry bunch of items, provided that they are not overly heavy. Since runes, scrolls, keys and other small items have zero weight, this should be enough for even most demanding players.

Also, magical items, blessed or empowered items can now be crafted if you have scrolls describing such items.

Regarding empowered items - some items have magical bonuses which draw their power from certain relics. Player can have up to four such relics active at any given time. These relics improve all item’s special bonuses. For example, if you have empowered 'Long Sword of Fire' which causes +5 fire damage on each hit and if this sword is empowered using Jeweled Skulls, if you have one such skull, your sword will cause +10 fire damage, if you have two skulls, sword will cause +15 fire damage etc. up to +25 fire damage if you have four such relics. There are over 20 types of relics scattered throughout the world and thousands of items (practically all equipable items) that can be empowered using such relics. This means all swords, axes and other weapons, armors, helmets, pants, boots, rings, necklaces, shields and many other items can be empowered in this way. Catch is that they do not all use the same relic to empower them so you will have to choose whether you wish to empower your weapons, or armors, or maybe magical rings.

On the other hand, we have created new types of item parameters. Now, players can find various new magical items. One example of such items are “blessed” items. These items are blessed by one of three main gods - Perun, Svarog or Veles and they give players additional bonuses at the cost - each item has blessing that lasts for up to one hour of gameplay. Once blessing runs out, item behaves as normal non-magical item. Blessings can be 'recharged' using god shrines that are placed throughout the wilderness.

We have added additional data about weapons such as bonuses to weapon type vs. creature, bonuses to critical hit chance whether you are using small weapons (1 handed swords/maces/axes, knives etc.) or large weapons (staves, pole-arms, 2 handed weapons) and more.

We have also introduced minimal requirements required to use certain items, such as minimal ability scores, level or skill required. Also, some items can be used only by characters of certain race or gender.

Item tooltips are heavily updated to reflect all these changes and each item tooltip describes bunch of details regarding specific item. We hope this will give players enough insight into gameplay mechanics without the need to consult the manual. Everything, from basic parameters to magical properties to crafting resources is listed in each item tooltip. Of course, we have also added many new bonuses and expanded all existing items.

We have also introduced cursed items. So far we had identifiable items. These are magical items whose properties player does not know until he identifies such items using oracle stones. Cursed items act in similar way. They look like normal or magical items but they carry curses with them. Once equipped, curse becomes active and item cannot be removed unless you visit the shrine of good god. Curses range from those that prevent you to regenerate health or faith, to those that destroy your ability to cast spells or even those that remove all your resistances making you helpless in any magical fight. Cursed items can be identified the same way players used to identify magical items - by visiting oracle stones.

We have also added scrolls of summoning which summon various creatures to fight at your side. We have various elementals you can summon, undead creatures such as zombies or skeletons, and even some reptiles.

Also, we have added durability to equippable items. Each of these items gets damaged during combat. You can fix them of course. You can buy repair tools and fix all your items as much as you like.

All these changes are just the start. Changes are too numerous to list them all here, and this is only regarding items. You can expect massive improvements on all other fronts too so you can expect much more regarding overall gameplay experience.

Unlocking and Keys:

Unlocking panel is made of rune slots where players place runes that unlock each puzzle. We have added key slot so players can use keys. Each locked chest, crate, or other itemholder has key that can be used to unlock it. You can use keys in addition to rune unlocking. Note that keys are rarely dropped so you will have to decide when its good to use them.

Smoothed Animations:

Animation for all dynamic entities are now smoothed over time when transiting between animation states. This is most noticeable on monsters and player characters.

64-bit OS Support:

Game and engine are now 64-bit only. Unfortunately that means game will no longer run on 32-bit operating systems, but good news is that memory problems are thing of the past now. Game can now utilize all the RAM you have, well over 2GB per process that is the limit of 32-bit processes.

Upgraded Physics:

NVidia Physx is not dependent on external system software anymore. No more separate installation of physics software is required. External physics installation was cause of many problems in the past - from configurations where physics software was not recognized, even though it was installed, to problems with non-steam installations where users simply forgot to install physics software. This is now solved, physics is part of the game itself and should work without any intervention from the user or external software.

Crafting:

Crafting is upgraded. Now you can buy or find scrolls of crafting that describe items you wish to create. This gives us much flexibility so now you can craft regular items, magical weapons and armors, blessed items, charged items, empowered items and more. This works for all items types, you can cook food or make armors using armorsmithing or even craft necklaces and ring using jewels and jewelcrafting. Most of the items in the game can be crafted using some skill and/or resource.

Spells:

Spells are also upgraded. Now each spell becomes stronger when you use it. This works similar to experience level player has. Each time you use the spell, its "experience" adds up until your spells gains level. Wizards casting fireballs become more experienced as the time passes by and they use the spell more often. Each spell now has more parameters all visible from the tooltips which are also heavily upgraded.

Utter trash! It even managed to be worse than the original (which is beyond trash). Avoid anything that people who made this junk put out.

that said..

Yes the combat is clunky yes it has bugs yes it can be awkward to play,

but you know what?

I freakin love it -

why?

Because it has a completely hand-crafted world, a go-anywhere-you-want design and proper fog-of-war mapping that gives you that old-school 'RPG Map' feel and design.

Basically, if you loved games like Sacred 2 and don't mind janky feeling combat you might actually like this,

a lot.

Another thing I really like is the slow, discerned pace of the game.

I purposefully installed this recently to get away from the constant 'brain-aching' clutter and noise of modern day gaming - everything is trying to get your attention and even after an hour of playing with all the flashes and lights you still don't feel satisfied you actually played anything,

that's the difference between modern games and old-school (especially old-school rpg) games -

when you play modern games you look back on the time you spent and wonder "what exactly did I achieve?",

when you play old-school rpg hand-crafted games you get a real sense of progression,

they're slow, steady, and satisfying - you can look at your map - you got a whole new section mapped out,

you look around you in the game - you're in a cool new area,

you look at your level and xp bar - awesome it went up,

etc etc.

You play slowly, but it's fun, satisfying, and you don't leave feeling like a drug-addict needing his fix -

you got a solid play session in, and didn't have all the 'ups and downs' of so many modern games nowadays.

Whether frustration in a modern 2d fighter (like SFV) or mindless 'ez-mode' of so called 'action adventure' games, modern day gaming either leaves you feeling used up or like a mindless vegetable.

That's the beauty of old-school rpg games, they have just enough action to keep you on your toes,

just enough combat to keep you stimulated and alert,

with a solid sense of adventure and progression through the hand-crafted worlds etc, to make you feel relaxed and satisfied of having had a solid game=play session.

It feels surreal to be saying all this, writing a review like this and rating it up,

when obviously most people think it's trash and down-vote it.

I'm sure I might run into some game-breaking bugs sooner or later,

but for now the game is great (again, for what it is - something very similar to Sacred + Sacred 2's big open world design, with lots of rpg elements and progression),

and I think it says something that a game that's actually not bad at all, and very good in some ways, is getting trashed so much when people are up-voting all kinds of other 'ADHD' garbage out there.

Again, all kinds of flaws - but if you want an adventure with a hand-crafted 'world' you can explore (unlike modern 'modular' games - where everything looks the same), along with a hand-crafted map and slower paced, deliberate playstyle,

you can't beat a game like this.

(Price definitely should be dropped though, 30 bucks is way too much and probably part of the reason of the low reviews -

around 12-18 would be perfect)

Goodness gracious me. I got into this thinking it was going to be a cool old school RPG. It's just not fun at all. I've put 55 hours into this hoping it would get better but so far I have not been rewarded. The game play is clunky, the battles are boring and the character misses about 60-70% of the time when swinging at enemies. Had the potential to be something awesome. Don't waste your time.

My initial reaction to this game was anger and frusteration with having absolutley nothing explained, and being tossed into an environment that I have no guidance. However, the more I pushed through, the more i slowly began to enjoy the game. Does it still frusterate me? Yes. However, when I discover how to play for myself I feel more rewarded. To me it brought back Morrowind. A game that only gives you a basic tutorial, and thrusts you out into a world full of wonder and a destiny you have to forge yourself.

Do not buy. Is terrible. I got *this* 'for free' by buying the non-reborn version. Which has pretty much all of the same flaws.

Magic doesn't work and casting spells is counterproductive (costs increase but not effects and if I cast a spell that should be doing 45-120 fire and 45-120 poison damage it should probably kill something with 38 hp; it doesn't). Running into a quest element exploring the world will often put you at that point in the quest so when you get back people are talking as if you've accomplished something you have no idea about. Crafting is awful. Recipes are needed for everything and there's no recipe book. Plus they can disappear out of your inventory so you lose the ability to make the components you need (you need to craft components for most, if not all, weapon and armour crafting). There are a number of holes in the terrain and a number of spots that are crab traps (you can walk in easily but good luck getting out) that have no reason for existing. Infinite falls are a risk when walking between two things at different heights. Monsters will be unlootable if they're at a higher elevation than you are since they'll sink into the terrain and be unclickable.

There's more but that's enough. It could have been good but it really, really isn't.

It's still a pretty terrible game. Graphics are improved with the new engine. Still no idea how to regenerate magic, or do much of anything, really. First quest in the game is a perfect example of what the game is like- the guy at the dock asks you to get him 'a beer'. So you bring him the item, Beer- that's not the right item. You have to specifically buy him some special type of drink. Merchants are not labelled, and there is no real way to tell which NPC is talking to you.

All of these issues were there at launch a few years ago. Do not buy this game, do not buy the old version, do not buy the new game they are developing.

There really, really, really needs to be a 50/50 receommendation option... Not just yes or no. Why, well, because I'd like to recommend the game based on the open world aspect, as well as all the little details that went into making this game. From things like spell crafting all the way to the smaller details like picking locks.

BUT.....

There are quite a few points about this game that make me cringe whenever I try to play. And I have played both the original, and have started to play the "reborn" version (and I say that lightly, because like many others have said, not much has changed.)

My biggest gripe, and some would see this as something not worth griping about, is movement, or travelling, etc. It takes a dog's age to get anywhere! There is no "fast travelling". Then add that to the already slow and clunky moving character, and well. Hope you're up for long journeys from A to B.

Which leads me to my next gripe. There is absolutely no quest markers, at all. What kind of adventurer would go out on a quest and not mark their map in some way so that they know where they should go, where they should look, and who to return to once the objective is complete? You can easily spend several hours just trying to figure out who it was that gave you what quests, and where the heck you're supposed to even go to begin, let alone finish... oh, and once you do figure it out, it takes FOREVER to get there and back again.

Don't get me wrong. The game has got a lot going for it. But some times it's the little things that can really make or break.

I, for one, will continue to bust through this, it might just take me a year or two to do it. :-)

Warning, this game is very bad and still expensive, don't buy it even if Steam pays you, I'm serious.

Got this game, or better (if you can call it), before Dreamatrix re-released it as the Reborn version with a big discount. BIG error.

Made a negative review back then, as the game was awful.

What can I say? Dreamatrix says it fixed the game, but the gameplay is as horrible as before, framerate is very low, even with a good pc.

I pity the players who helped to fund this game on Kickstarter - so many promises, all broken.

Dreamatrix, get your game back and please don't mess it anymore.

Level Editor will not start due to some missing Scintilla or something dll.
Only reason I bought this game is because it has a level editor.
When I asked in the discussions before buying about the level
editor the devs pretty much just blew me off. They said, yeah it has one
but wouldn't say anything else. So I'm not going to bother asking them
for help getting the POS to work. Way it is...

Absolutely do NOT buy this game. It is a scam. I am not stating that ironically, or to be malicious; this game is unequivocally the buggiest, most poorly managed, poorly updated, and awful piece of garbage that has graced Steam's greenlight program.

BUT, for the sake of a review, lets discuss why.

Entire subsystems and 'class mechanics' dont work.
Pathing is a nightmare, and its possible to get stuck in terrain, path through cliffs and never be able to walk back up them, etc. You can die from falling a foot, and die from falling in water.
Textures and meshes seemingly load in and out of the camera's view randomly. Entire houses will pop up around you, or disappear entirely as you're walking into them.
Progression is entirely arbitrary. Items are random, quests may or may not work depending on the alignment of the stars, "dialogue" is schizophrenic and characters will seemingly have entirely random or baseless reactions to spoken text.
Skill progression and pseudo-class progression is trivial and unimaginative. (The only exception being the ability to craft magic)
The graphics are abysmal, character models, NPCs, and monsters appear to have been created using software from 1998.
The camera and movement controls are horrifically limited. The camera will only allow about a 620x480 field of view, no matter the resolution you're attempting to play it in.
Anything and everything can be locked, and the 'rune' system to unlock ANYTHING is never explained and so convoluted theres multiple sections of the manual that attempt to cover it.
The story line is non-existent.
The game has hardware and technical issues, crashes, buggy meshes / textures, etc, etc.
Inventory and item management is a chore, and I had found myself not even bothering to loot drops at a certain point.

I can go on. Honestly, I havent even listed half of the things wrong with this travesty of a title, but hopefully this will suffice. AVOID. THIS. TITLE.

I dont even hate the developers, im sure they're great people. Im sure they're nice and loving and wonderful individuals. However, they have produced one of the absolute worst titles to ever hit steam, and I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone. Seriously.

Dont even buy this for 50 cents. This game is going to go down in history as the next E.T. for the Atari. There's going to just be a virtual landfill with Legends of Dawn (Reborn) and anyone's wallet that accidentally purchased this title.

Dreamatrix loves their game more than we do.
If I worked for them and read the negative reviews the first release had, I'd bury my head in the sand and change my name... Not these guys, they keep trying, and tryng, and trying to make it better.

The game is kinda buggy and kinda shitty, but has a quant enjoyable charm to it. So I gotta thumb up it.

Cheers to the Developers! one day they'll make the greatest RPG someday, this isn't the game but it's worth a look.

I felt kind of bad for Legends of Dawn. It felt like someone really wanted to make a great game filled with all the great things other games had done, but was in way over their head and just made a jumbled mess instead. Now that it has been "reborn" however, my sympathy is gone, and all I have is a feeling that rhymes with "heartburn". Well, actually it is heartburn. Jalepeno chips really shouldn't be eaten by the handful until you are sweating profusely and can no longer feel your lips. Also, Legends of Dawn Reborn is just a vaccuum cleaner salesman trying to sneak in the back door after you've thrown him out the front, and that's not cool.

dont want to be rude here so i will simply say dont buy this even tho the game is reworked it still crashs from time to time also you cant find oracle stones till much later on what is an oracle stone its a place that ids unidentified magic items oh sometimes magic items are cursed and you cant get them off with out a shrine where is the shrine i dont know but its not at the chruch :P combat its still boring you click on a monster to hit it and thats it dodging and missing and hitting all seems to be random yes i can up different stats when i make my character but the game doesnt tell me if any of the stats does anything or if it improves anything ether one of the good ideas in this game is that instad of lockpicking you use runes to unlock things but sadly runes are also used for making spells and crafting and there are 3 different types of runes for 3 different types of chests i have found 20 runes still cant open one chest its kind of sad if this game had classes, a much better combat system, a better spell system and was reworked some it could have been pretty good game sadly it is not Do not buy this game is its not a new version of the game it is the same game with less bugs still not very good

Once again, dreamatrix shows that it is perfectly willing to rip people off.

Before you continue reading, this reveiw was originally written after playing 0.4 hours of total playtime. The response from dreamatrix was "saltmummy626 0.4 hrs on record, you actually have no clue what we changed inside." I have comitted another three or so hours to LoDR, and am ready to say that "yes, I do have a clue of what you changed, and that is hardly anything at all." and so, my review remains, except for this paragraph, unchanged. It's easier to push negative reviews under the rug when it looks like people have hardly touched the game I guess. Read on potential buyer, and you'll get what I mean.

THE COMMUNITY-DEVS
Legends of dawn is a game made about two or so years ago. Two or so years of empty promises and exagerated claims on the part of dreamatrix caught up with them in the sheer number of negative reveiws their barely functioning framework had garnered. One day, fairly recently, they decided that they would slap "reborn" on the title and re-release it and take down the games older listing. By the way, taking down the games older listing also took down the negative reviews and the amount of time played by the negative reveiwers, which was undoubtedly the plan all along.

The community around this game is mostly made up of dissatisfied customers regularly getting banned and thrown out of the games forums and steam community page, and a very small, caustic, sect of zealous fans. Moderators and the developers on the forums and community hub for this game are unhelpful and downright unfriendly, especially towards people with complaints or bug reports. "We are a small studio." is the go to excuse for dreamatrix when it comes to serious bugs, disregarding the fact that other smaller studios have made far superior games with fewer horrendous bugs.

THE GAME ITSELF
The game itself? It is almost a complete copy paste of the "old" version. same game, very few changes. Same ability to devour your computers memory and run poorly regardless of it's power and the games outdated graphics. Same stock sound effects and music which is suspiciously similar to music from other games. Same awful character creator with the same races (Human, Elf, Ferengi.) Same equipment peices which are no better than other equipment peices (a steel helmet still gives the same defense as a cloth hat.) Same abymsal voice acting. Same miniscule FOV. Same enemies which detonate hilariously when they are killed. Same NPCs who do not care that a stranger is in their home, stealing their underwear. Same Same Same. The only "improvement" I saw was a change to the games already fairly creative lockpicking system and magic system. Some other changes I saw were the massively reduced inventory size and reworked crafting. Both of which work together to make the experiance slightly more unpleasant. Oh yeah, another change? even though this is the same as the old one, they somehow have the audacity to raise the price a full 10$. maybe that doesnt sound like a lot, but 30$ is a hell of a lot to pay for a product as shoddy as this. Even if it were free, you would still be paying too much. I only wish I could find the backup I made of the old reveiw so I could repost it here, becuase everything in it still stands.

Some stuff from the games description on the store page.
- Legends of Dawn Reborn is a 64-bit ONLY title. Streaming technology enables playing without any loading screens. All data seamlessly loads in background- except there are loading screens. They suddenly appear when you travel long distances, a bit like the little bar that said "loading" which would appear at the bottom of the screen in morrowind, except LoDs is a splash screen and not an unobtrusive bar.

- Expandable huge inventory with bags with item stacking and sorting- well item stacking is a nice new feature, but you still collect a large amount of valueless junk which uses up that small "upgradable" space pretty quick.

- A completely new informative tooltips with all data about single item type, including runes, potions and spells; Important data about magic level, crafting etc.- screen filling, and confusing. There is such a thing as "too much information." also, these tooltips will compare your weapon to your food for some bizarre reason, which just takes up twice as much screen real estate.

- Additional combat animations- Not really, no.

- Major upgrade with keyboard and mouse navigation - A Bald faced lie, the controls are exactly the same.

- With full freedom, explore hundreds of unique locations;- If you don't get stuck on the geometry and have to load your game that is. It's pretty easy to do too, the pathfinding is prehistoric and youll clip into objects you are trying to interact with, and get stuck in them and even though you are stuck on the container, you still won't be able to open it becuase you aren't positioned right.

- Hundreds of types of wild creatures and monsters that drop loads of loot;- eh. Don't you know? Creature variants don't actually count as another creature type. just becuase you change the color and size, it doesn't mean you have made a new creature.

- Legends of Dawn is no longer supported or available for purchase;- Except for an extra ten bucks on this store page. "Look, we put "Reborn" in the title! that means it's a whole new game right?"

- If you already purchased LoD do not buy this LoD Reborn, you are qualified to get it free of charge.- Just their way of making it look less like a scam.

IN CONCLUSION
Do not buy, do not buy, DO NOT BUY!
If you really MUST buy this game, than all I can say is: Welcome to the septic tank, thank god steam offers refunds now.

dont fall for it! they may have wiped out all the old (mostly negative) reviews, but they havent really improved the game. i mean sure you could "pretend" its somehow better with a new engine.. but its the same game! a turd floating in 1 toilet is the same turd floating in another.. and rest assured this game is a turd. re-releasing it was probably a sham in hopes of milking a few more $ out of the game to pay for the second one they are making (despite blowing this game off ages ago only to "re-release" this garbage).

its the same game as before, the old reviews should stick. ugliest character creation screen ever for the record.
