This game is phenomenal, there is just so much to do that after 10 hours i feel like ive only just opened the game for the first time and everything i do is a new experience (Granted i keep finding myself end up at the casino). I really think this game is a gem and i strongly recommend it to anyone looking for either 1. A great casual game you can get on and off at any time. 2. An amazing community of people that you can just meet up and immediately become friends with and do goofy things together. 3. An amazing coop game with so much potential to be a game you wont play together once or twice, but instead something youll consistently return to together. And 4. If you just want a fun game, this is it. Also i can put a YouTube video on the tv inside the casino while i gamble all the money ive made into oblivion.
I don't even talk to people in chat but still get plenty of value from the $14 I spent. The arcade games and casino games in this are really smooth and feel fun to sit at for 10+ minutes at a time. This game feels drastically better than ones specifically designed as arcade simulators, such as The Coin Game, yet theres tons of extra features outside of the arcade aspect.
Tower Unite is a beautifully crafted sandbox social game that brings out the golden age of gaming, Not only does it come jam packed with tons of fun party games for your crew to have tons of fun with, a crazy cool building platform that is awesome, and a kick butt playerbase that comes up with the craziest stuff!
if you think you've seen everything in this game, trust me. This game throws curve balls at you every step of your journey ♥
Very much still an alpha/beta version of the game, based on what it should feel like. 1.0 is a gimmick to make more people consider the game, probably, as it seems pixeltail is bleeding money? paid game with 2 supporter packs and a sold soundtrack isn't a great look, but understandable given the lack of micro-transactions and probable server costs.
1.0 seems like a pointless marketing gimmick to make you think this game is remotely complete.
it somehow feels like a game still in alpha
This is a hidden gem of a game. I was expecting a nice little sim-like minigame simulator to play with my boyfriend, but it turns out Tower Unite is soooo much more than that. I highly recommend it if you're looking to have a virtual date with someone, it lends itself quite well to that. Playing solo or with friends is really fun too. They have a full arcade (it's huge), a theater where you can upload youtube videos and watch them on the big screen, there's trivia, carnival games, bumper cars, fishing, custom outfits, and so much more. It's really worth the price of admission.
100% A game for social butterflies! Sure, there's a fair share of rude individuals but there's so many kind people who just want to have a good time and chat, and play games. This is most definitely not a game to play solo, you need friends to enjoy this.
Seven Garry's Mod like games connected by a big empty plaza. Only Ball Race and Minigolf have active players and this is on the release of version 1.0. It's like walking around London in 28 Days Later, only the infected are AFK furries. Some movement in the Casino but everyone is just sat on the one-armed bandits in silence. At least it's push to talk so it's better than Horizon Worlds.
1.0 comes with nothing. they released it based off a feeling instead of content.
games still buggy as fuck
This does not feel like "1.0" in anyway. It runs just as bad as before and is still pretty buggy. VR support isn't even half done. It feels odd to leave a negative review when I want this game to be bigger, but it's feels like it's still in beta.
I wish there was more done for 1.0 given the amount of time that this has been worked on and this was definitely more of a 'get it out the door' 1.0 release but this game has too much sentimentality and charm for me to be upset, especially following this since GMT
Seeing as this game just became a 1.0, it seems fitting to give it a review now. This game has had a very drawn-out development spanning years and years. One would hope that this would mean a polished and well-optimized release. Unfortunately, instead of this, the game feels very unfinished and rough around the edges. This game has constantly been a one step forward and one step back sort of deal in terms of updates. Updates frequently break things and new features seem to get introduced haphazardly. This rings true even for "1.0". Optimization is still pathetic with this game struggling to run acceptably on high-end machines. I am unable to get a consistent 60 FPS in a condos with several other players running at 4K resolution with an i7-8700K and an RTX 3080 12 gb. This machine should be overkill if you look at recommended specs but recommended specs are way off for how poorly this game runs. Outside of terrible performance, the game still feels very janky. The minigames feel floaty and unpolished. This game shouldn't feel like an early access release after years of development so either the developers are incapable of finishing their vision or they are unwilling to. Either way, it is disappointing. You can certainly have fun in this game but don't expect it to ever run acceptably or ever feel like a polished, finished title.
they're bum-rushing a 1.0 as a publicity stunt, this game is still anything but finished
Do not spend money with them. They need to roll back to pre 1.0. They didn't add anything but still released the "update" to gather interest. Truly scumlike behavior. The concept is a poorly put together mess currently. There, was, hope for things to get smoothed over, but if this is what they call "good enough" then I recommend giving up altogether.
I like this game, most people in it are weirdos but it is kind of expected from these type of games, so it's not that big of a deal. However the updates are extremely slow, with features being worked on since the start that's still not fully there, while they keep releasing "supporter dlcs" that just give you minor cosmetics and titles, not to mention how poorly optimized the game is, and now 1.0 is "out" but it was like 5 minor bugfixes... and some more supporter dlcs.
I've also gotten banned from the public lobbies for a month because I said in a conversation to someone else that I don't like rap, and people reported it as "racism", and appearantly it was to the devs, crazy. A lot more stories like that of all kinds and much worse out there. It's not all bad though, like I said I actually like this game and for people that are into this kind of stuff they would probably love it, but something about how it is run is just not it to put it lightly.
Don't be fooled by it being 1.0, it's more like a 0.1.
This game has been in development for almost a decade. It's been plagued from start to finish with performance issues, tons of jank patched with duct tape until it breaks free again. 1.0 release came out of nowhere and feels like some store guideline that needed to be followed. If you have a supercomputer, it's probably fine.
Amazing game, so much to do, such high quality. Even just the minigolf game itself is better than Golf with friends. And all this without any micro transactions or paywalls?! Great developers, outstanding game! But buy buy.
Alright to be fair I've committed a lot of time to this game and enjoy it overall. In my personal experience there are things about it which I'm excited to see how they develop. *I* enjoy playing it overall, but that said I gave it initially a negative review for some reasons.
Namely I don't know if rushing to say the game was v1.0 was really necessary at the expense of not having some major networking and UI bugs worked out first. Namely things like AGC's reliability, syncing issues in Casino making users have lower balances than they might actually have (lost bets, etc.), and bowling being extremely inconsistent.
People have very mixed reports on the bowling, but for me personally almost every single time I try and play I have multiple frames in a set where pins disappear and can't be hit, thus reducing my score and preventing spares or strikes. This also happens similarly during the Boardwalk Milk Jug Toss game sometimes.
While seemingly small bugs for the developers, these do make an overall kind of difficult process for users to adjust to. When it was listed as Early Access and whatnot, these kinds of bugs are to be expected. Paying full price for a full release game, however, I feel it should be at a more consistent state than it is.
It's a great concept and the game has developed quite a bit since its inception, I just wish the developers didn't feel a need for the Pyrrhic victory in releasing yet another ultimately unfinished game.
great casual game. kind of like the original VR chat. you can be whatever you want and play how you want. lots of minigames and you can create your own home if you want. i made a home theater specifically to watch gundam in.
I have been playing Tower Unite for many years now, and just got to 500 hours in, so I decided to finally review it.
Tower Unite is a game consisting of multiple smaller games within, spanning multiple genres. There is Mini golf, a few FPS games, ball race (think monkey ball or marble games), a online hub world with an arcade, casino, stores, boardwalk games and even a few rides to enjoy as well as a waterpark! Though my favorite is this on rails shooting dark ride called "Dark Voyage". I really love those rides IRL and this is no exception! There are even homes you can buy (called Condos) and you can decorate them however you want like a 3D Animal Crossing. Other games and things to do are scattered around the Hub, or Plaza, as well, though some do require multiple people do play them which can be a problem sometimes.
I do particularity enjoy the seasonal events they do every so often, Halloween, Christmas, Anniversary event, Easter, and Summer! Each let you earn coins by playing which can be spent to earn anything in the shop, including stuff from past years, eliminating FOMO which I love to see. The events usually run around a month, and sometimes a bit longer in a few cases.
I have been playing this game for awhile, as I said. Updates can be a bit slow feeling sometimes, the small team is always working on new stuff, though if you are a fan of a certain feature or game mode, you might be waiting a bit, though this is only because the team is working on other game modes and such in the meantime. Overall, improvements have been made for a much smoother gameplay experience, which is a huge help! I personally do not always like some of the changes made, but overall I'd certainly say they are positive.
The game is more of a "Hangout and Vibe" game than anything, you basically make your own experience and play what you like, with something for everyone. I usually always find myself coming back to it as a nice comfort game.
Even though it may say "Early Access" the game is complete and quite playable. The team seems ready to launch the game soon, though I wouldn't let that stop anyone from giving it a try. For $20 normal it is a very good deal for what you get. Alone or with others it is a great game that deserves more recognition!
I find myself coming back to this game time and time again if for nothing less than the best mini golf game that has ever existed.
Super fun game! Arcade, Mini Golf, Casino, Jet Packs and more! Try it out :D
So, I got Tower Unite back when it released, which was apparently way back in 2016. Wow does the time fly. Meaning I've owned this game for about nine years now, give or take, though I will admit, I stopped playing maybe back in 2019ish? So, I was eager to jump back into the game to see what had changed during those last six years. The answer? Mini game wise, it feels like an archived version of one of those old websites I used to play on, aka preserved exactly how I remember it, which isn't what you want to hear about an early access title. There's no polish here, it's just as clunky as it ever was, and with most of the early player base supporting it because we were led to believe we'd eventually see that polish, this is extremely disappointing. Everything is as amateur in execution as it was from the beginning, and none of what was treated as "skeletons" for better mini games to come have actually been improved on. Literally, if you wanted to know what it was like to play this game back when I was super into it years ago, all you'd need to do is buy a copy and play it now. Well, almost.
Because here's the real kicker, some of the features seem to actually work less now than when I last played the game, something you absolutely do not want to hear about an early access game. The character customization is the most notable. It is completely broken, especially when it comes to workshop models, absolutely refusing to save the one you've selected, which is unfortunate because the default avatars are...let's just say not good. Those, however, were broken too. The game kept struggling to save or display my avatar's hair and eye color even for the default model, which just kept showing up white. In a game about community, one of the last things you want to stop working is your avatar customization. Side note, I was one of the individuals worried the game introducing modding for avatars would be used as an excuse to not improve on the default ones. Here we are years later, and the avatars have not only gone untouched, they're worse. In general, the game really struggled to load the images of items, which caused me to just stare at blank gray blocks for some of them. I was shocked as I didn't remember this being an issue, and if it was, it should have been fixed by now.
The mini games, again, are just as clunky as ever and feel weird to play if you've ever played more fleshed out versions of them (the mini games are quite basic, so you most likely have). Which was fine back in the early days, the creators were finding their footing and developing each as they went, but not after nine years of early access. I honestly should have taken it as a warning sign when they kept adding new mini games, instead of working on the ones they already had, which it felt like so many players were desperately asking them to. I was almost going to write into my review that mini golf was the only worth while mini game, but I found even that isn't true, as a lot of the courses feel designed to be annoying to play, and also go on for way too long. There's difficulty, and then there's just throwing as many corners and walls into my path as possible to the point it becomes tedious. Some courses have cool themes, but, within them, each level felt way too similar to really grab my attention. I'd originally planned to try and play all the courses when it was the only mini game I still actually enjoyed, but I soon found myself way too bored to bother. And no, playing it with friends wouldn't help, as the courses in and of themselves just aren't fun. So, after years of development, I have a multiplayer game stuck in my library I would never choose to play with anyone, even if they happened to have it.
The only thing that is still the same, in a good way, is the condos. I need people who haven't played this game to understand playing around and decorating the condos is so fun, that I legit think if these creators just made a condo building game with fun house designs and the ability to use workshop avatars as models, people would go crazy over it. Ensuring there's just the right amount of customization options for the furniture items and a good variety of designs for the condos is clearly where these creators excel. The layouts for the mini games? Weird combined with clunky controls that makes them annoying to sit through. The layouts for the condos? Extremely nice to work with decoration wise or unique in a super fun way. There is a literal underwater condo with an animated airlock so you can go swim out in the ocean! I felt way more achieved getting the achievement for discovering that after all these years than trying to sit through golf. It's enough to be fun without being too under or overwhelming. The most fun this game has ever truly given me is just goofing off as my favorite characters in the condos, along with decorating them. If this feature ever gets broken, I will legit be so heart broken, as I will definitely visit them again in the future. This is the only reason this game is still in my Steam library.
Yet, with all of that in mind, I just absolutely can not recommend new players spend any money on this, even if they know a friend who owns it. There are so many better multiplayer and party games out there at this point that cover the mini games Tower Unite tried to implement, that this game kind of just can't compete with them anymore. This game really fell short by not being able to actually polish any its features. As I said above, almost everything feels as rushed and shallow as when the game first came out, which is not a good sign. The fact levels were still coming out for mini games back then, yet there's really nothing of note in all this time shocks me. I think a lot of the modern multiplayer and party games out now are great examples of how to succeed. Don't spread yourself too thin, focus on one overarching mechanic or gameplay loop and be really good at it. Tower Unite wanted to be every party game in one, but ultimately failed. Well, unless we count the condos, but as fun as the condos are, it's not worth buying a game that seems to be eternally stuck in early access Hell just for them. Tower Unite feels haunted with potential, but it's become clear we'll likely never reach the finish line with this one.
Been playing this shit since it was a gmod server. 10/10 stupid fun
this game is extremely underrated i mean it is not like so much exhilarating
fun with all this action and stuff but man its relaxing and social and it gives me this vibe of nostalgia i just don't get from any other game and these developers update the game a lot so.... yea give it a try.
it seems fun at first. there is blood, there is death, they need to put violence on the menu before you buy. i would have bought this for my kid. but then i played it. a women with sisors in her back, a ride with people eating eachother, the ability to kill your neighbor, in grusome means. this game is not good. and they banned me from chat becuase i said anal sex is gross. they called me a homophobic.
really fun game reminds me of sims but open world 3d and for me the only issues are that some games seem super buggy like the billards they need to fix and add more furniture otherwise great game!
Fun chill game lots of stuff to do and can hang out with friends
I'm new to this overall so ran through it and couldn't believe i'd missed out on this gem since 2016.. i have created for Vrchat for years and i'm just shocked i have had nobody mentioned this title to me in the past.. its simply an amazing game and i can really do it no better than just amazing because you can practically do and buy anything with in game currency which you earn.. there is no buying of funds or adverts or anything remotely like that.. just overall game time + playtime = reward.
Plus gotta hand it to them on so many levels.. i design Theme parks in mostly everything ive played over the years, yet what they have here in arcade games alone is insane.. i just wish i knew about this title in the past and didnt spend most of my time wasted using the unity engine. lols.
So overall i would say im kinda mind blown as it stands, have not used it in VR yet but pretty sure using a wired headset and not a meta quest would be the way forward here.. but will update the review via headset when i get the chance.
I also like the workshop.. so much easier than running with Unity + SDK, overall designing in this is really well done because its literally built into the client for worlds/avatars/items etc, i will be creating alot of content here and releasing on workshop of that i can guarantee.
Incredibly cozy online hangout with countless activities to do with friends, alone, or with random people. 10/10 definitely recommend.
They Basically took a community game from Garry's Mod and made it way less fun for pure profit. They had the Garry's Mod Tower servers shut down again. I just don't see why they don't finish their own game instead of destroying a community that made what you guys are today. It really is messed up because Tower Unite would be nothing without the start of gmod tower, and garry's mod is all about the community modded content. Now they are stopping people from being creative this is just the saddest thing I've seen online.
Even though the devs sometimes make weird unnecessary additions to the game, free updates for eternity is fucking sick. Big fan of all the custom content in this game too! I just wish more people played some of the minigames.
Great game, community within the game is dedicated to it and you'll find random people on doing random things at random places. My only gripe with the game is if you are going to buy it, I recommend to have a friend buy it with you. It makes for trying out all the games and features much easier and makes for a more fun experience. Can't really speak to the experience of buying the game solo and having to make friends in the game (but it is pretty easy to strike up a conversation with anyone around). If you're chronically online, or looking for a social game with cool minigames you can waste your time on, this is the one for you.
Nothing to get excited about Cheaters rule the roost mostly here, you have a thing to play with others that have no skill except to cheat others in scores.go ahead, garbage bags of skin, permitted cheating otherwise why has it been allowed to go on for over a year you want honest play, go elsewhere
gambling is awesome
VR is coming
gambling sim upgrade soon
This is a racist, transphobic, horrible game!
I've experienced nothing but the worst "humanity" has had to offer by being horrifically subjected to this game's community. I would be repeatedly misgendered in chat, and made fun of for my models all the time by anti-furry bullies (Loona 4EVER btw). No matter where I went, I faced constant and continuous discrimination and it's finally time for me to speak truth to power. I heard the 'r' slur thrown around like ao3 omegaverse tags over voice, and there was one cr**p who would constantly harass me in voice whenever xe heard me with such "lovely" sayings as "hey baby, why don't you ditch this poindexter and hang with a real [slur] lover like me". Suffice to say, I was shocked.
But the WORST encounters were in condos. One time I went into a condo and saw a picture of an underage anime girl and I heard they had to close the condo after for breaking the rules. One time, some troll was playing an awful homophobic rap video that was so racist I had to go get a psych eval, true story. Condos are filled with the most racist, sexist, right-wing, anti-transgender incels that have stalked me and threatened to "set off my peanut allergy via a peanut-laced package" (I list my allergies on my caard page) so many times I had a panic attack. I can't believe this degree of harassment has been normalized (thanks Tr*mp, El*n, R***ing and And*rew T8).
The last straw was when I tried to defend the honor of an admin in front of this guy holding the whole server h*stage with his misinformed hate speech about how starship troopers is bad satire. Unfortunately, I somehow got permanently banned as a result of my heroic verbal sparring (my ban message said 'illegal content in condo???). I only had my furaffinity gallery posted (I am part of the kink community) because my parole officer said I can't have my page anymore. Anyways, I'm trying to appeal, but right now, I just can't endorse this hotbed of anti-social, chud-allowing, 4chan style cage match that risks sending me into a mental spiral every time I log in.
(If my hours don't match, that's because I spent the last several months trying to appeal my parole violation and part of my agreement was no computer time :/. I got it back thankfully. too bad last time I tried to launch the game my 3090 overheated and exploded and killed my hamster so I can't play even if I wanted to.)
GMod Cinema, but the community's less likely to get you put on a terrorist watch list.
Touted by voice actor Gianni Matragrano as "Like VRchat for gamers," as nonsensical as that statement is, it does seem to be the case. The existing game modes featured are really solid games from a Golf-It clone with Workshop maps to an Arena Shooter with workshop maps, the workshop support seems to be slowly being implimented into most if not all games eventually.
The double edged sword is where it differs from VRC; the price and the nature of the Workshop supported content serve as a barrier for certain players and content it will certainly keep trolls out and the limits of the workshop moderation keeps any problematic models from being added (Unsolicited nudie models, "crasher" avatars, or anything emblematic of hate) but the 20 dollar price tag is quite a tall barrier of entry for what TU is compared to the free (in both meanings to a degree) alternative of VRC.
That said, Tower has draw in the Condo side of things. Play time, especially in games, translate to Units which you can spend on properties or decorations to make an in-game home look as cozy or demented as you want. Fill a whole condo with emulator machines (Which run surprisingly smooth for being a game within a game btw, that's some voodoo magic) or lewdie art if you want (as long as you tag it if it's open to the public), what you do with your condo is more or less entirely fair game.
I love how we are able to play a new virtual game that allows you to create your own avatar and homes. Hopefully we get more clothes designs or a neighborhood with other players!
a great party game with lots of stuff to keep you and your friends entertained for hours highly recommend
Honestly... Best social game ever made. Has glitches yes, are they funny yes, but this game is updated and added to CONSTANTLY
My Favorite Sims Games!
This game is everything you want and need!
Great dev, Great Community (L)
Fun idea but the social element is really bad. Players are very very often needlessly hostile and/or clique-ey. My advice is to ignore this aspect of the game and play it purely either for the mini-games or with your own friends that you know personally. This is a pretty major caveat considering interacting with the community is an instrumental part of the game's feature set. The mini-games are decently fun and so is the condo-building but the community is just really bad
Great game to play to goof off with friends. Lots of options for stuff to do! We like it a lot, and have even made a few friends through this game :)
Really fun and cozy game! Lots of arcade and casino games to play, as well as actual minigames like go kart racing, a zombie shooter and many more. And the player housing system's really neat!
Edit: They can and will ban you for anything but keep their list of rules brief when you join and look at them in game. Take a look.
A social game is only as good as the variety of discussion you can have in it. Particularly egregious interaction rules are "No agreeing with J. K. Rowling.", "No Illspeak of Developers", "No Trolling", "No Controversial Discussions", and "No Debates". There are also numerous double standard rules including "No Politics", "No Sexual Behaviour", "No Controversial Discussions", "No Media that can break any of our Rules", "No Offensive Text-Hats", and "No Offensive Condo Titles".
Original review:
I have a lot of nostalgia for GMTower and this game but I dislike the admins and moderators and preferential treatment given to the crowd you likely already know.
Lots of freaks playing as well and being uncensored within condos only goes as far to the types of images you can host within them. You can and will get punished for what you say even within your own condo where there's supposed to be "no moderation" and be chat banned from every single "unmoderated" condo if you get chat banned in the lobby.
I'm by no means a puritan but it's stupid to allow the levels of nsfw they show within condos while also protecting certain other classes and banning people who get a bit too uppity against them. I guess it's fine if you're a pervert who falls into that group. I'm sure it's also fine for them to trash talk whoever they see fit.
You can get a lot of mileage trolling people in it. Be careful what you say though. They're more than happy to ban the people who spend 20 dollars on their game if they don't like them. If they want more people in their game they should lower the price down to 5 and just ban people over and over again.
Edit 2: I have not been banned as of writing this review and have never been banned. My biggest issue is the double standards of the moderation who very obviously have leanings they cater to. Read the link and ask yourself why it only specifies one group of people who would have one particular point of view they hold.
silly game with a lot of activities, house building, and basically playable characters across like . Thousands of franchises i'd assume.
High quailty game but needs more room to make money in a reliable way, and there should be a player rating system where you can like people and they will get money so being kind is rewarded
A nice successor to gmod tower, and an overall decent social hub type game. plus you can gamble
kind of boring tbh. dont quite understand the whole house thing.
