Rockstar have added battleye anti-cheat (late '24), however have not enabled Linux support.

its very sad too say but after battleye it became unplayable. never modded and never cheated but it kicks me every 15 mins or later i cant finish my missions because OF IT ITS PITIFUL. the game devs suck at that. right now wont recommend till they fix this shit. before the patch was playable but now. i do like this game but cant play............again pitiful
Now makes you download Battleye as an anti-cheat but it will randomly kick you out to story mid session and there are no solutions for it making the game borderline unplayable for now. Also battleye is super invasive on what it has access to on your pc
The first few hours of the game are a great experience.
A city that looks very alive and there are many things to do. A very interesting story begins. Details are seen all over the game, from strip club to stock trading!
But I think firstly the game has unnecessarily long main story and there is not enough content and gameplay for such a long story. Even the game world does not have the capacity to be this long.
Secondly, since Trevor came into the game, apart from the fact that I felt very bad for this hateful character and did not want to play him. The problem was that the game turned into two verbs:
Drive, kill
Drive, kill
Drive, kill
If you remove cutscenes from the game you will see how repetitive this game is.
Also, working for the FIB without any output made me very bored.
I think even though Rockstar released such a game in 2013 and it looks wonderful. But if you've played RDR2, you'll probably get bored of it pretty quickly.

GTA 5 is a life simulator set in Los Santos, where you can be anyone: a car thief, a gang manager, or even a guy watering the lawn after stealing the lawnmower. The story is so good that you occasionally remember it exists — somewhere between teaching Trevor not to punch strangers and convincing Michael not to blow all his money at the strip club.
And then there’s GTA Online… the circus. Any plans you had to deliver cargo are quickly destroyed by a 12-year-old on a flying motorbike, and instead of serious missions, you’ll spend hours picking the perfect pair of skinny jeans for your character. Playing with friends? Great! Now you can argue over who parked the car on the train tracks or try to push each other off a bridge.
GTA 5 isn’t just a game — it’s a place where chaos becomes an art form, and every failure is a masterpiece. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to feel like a boss in a world where bosses die from a stray soda can to the head.
Its been more than a decade now, but GTA V continues to be one of the most played titles to this day and remains as relevant as ever. It holds the record of most sold game of all time and continues to sell strong. GTA V continues the trend set forth by its predecessors of open-world sandbox games, and this iteration is the most expansive, detailed, interactive and immersive yet. We return to the sun soaked city of Los Santos, modeled after the real life city of Los Angeles, last seen in GTA: San Andreas some eight years prior. Not only can we explore this metropolis but a large part of San Andreas state as well, encompassing varied urban, desert, mountain, forest, and beach landscapes. This open world appears living and breathing, with day-night cycles, variable weather patterns, and pedestrians and vehicles appear to have dynamic behaviours. NPC's have distinct personalities and may be involved in various activities or conversations. Some might even be committing crimes or involved in high speed police chases.
In a departure from previous games in the series there are now three different protagonists that we can take control of and who's stories will intertwine as the game progresses. There's Franklin, a street thug who's generally reasonable and grounded, hoping to make something more of himself. Michael is a former bank robber who's now in witness protection and lives a life of luxury with his dysfunctional family. And finally there's Trevor, who can be described as a total psychopath bent on chaos and destruction. He engages in various crimes and has been trying to expand his criminal enterprise. Him and Michael have a lot of history. Each of them can be seamlessly selected and usually populate different parts of the state at most given times. As usual, the writing and dialogue are great and while the main story isn't necessarily the stuff of an academy award-winning narrative, it's engaging with enough twists to keep us captivated. Heists are an integral part of the story with many missions building up to a big score. It's definitely more over the top and lighthearted than GTA IV, and more hilarious in many ways. Some of the side missions are outrageous and there are more side quests and activities than ever before, there's always something to do or discover. As has become standard in this series', the game has its fair share of satire and pokes fun at modern-day society, capitalism, consumerism, corporate greed, and the fallacies of the American Dream.
Graphically GTA V took advantage of the newer hardware at the time and improved in just about every way with more detailed environments, realistic lighting and shadows, and enhanced textures. Animations are more fluid and character models look far more life-like. Even after 10 years, the visuals are still quite impressive. Vehicles seem more fun and easier to drive than previous, and have more authentic destruction physics. In fact the environment in general is far more destructive. In terms of sound, the voice acting is top notch, and enhances the character developments and interactions. The radio stations provide top tier music tracks of almost every genre, and the talk shows are hysterical and provide an exaggerated social commentary on a multitude of real-world issues. The stations have recurrent radio hosts like Laszlo and Maurice Chavez as well as a plethora of newcomers that we inevitably become accustomed to while on the road.
If one were to try to understand why this game is still going so strong, Rockstar's secret sauce, and cash cow, lies in GTA: Online. Multitudes of players can simultaneously enter the open world and buy properties, vehicles and weapons, customize their characters, join races, perform heists, create chaos, and build up their bank accounts with GTA currency. The possibilities are really endless. Rockstar has continued to support the game with new content and features. This is also most likely the reason we haven't seen a new entry to the series' for such a long time, there's just too much money to be made here. The PC version appears to have its fair share of hackers though, and it doesn't seem like Rockstar does a ton to stop it. This has ruined different online sessions more often than I want to admit.
Overall, despite its age, GTA V remains a force to be reckoned with. I can't describe the fun I've had teaming up with other players to complete heists and the nail biting moments trying to complete the Doomsday Heist without dying, while going for some of the game's more difficult achievements. It is the pinnacle of open world gaming, and I would argue that nothing else really comes close in this genre. With countless activities to engage with and the evolving and expansive world of GTA: Online, this game has seemingly endless replay value and will maintain its enduring popularity...at least until the highly anticipated GTA VI is finally released.
Servers are crap, hackers are in every lobby teleporting people mid mission and overloading the servers so that the missions freeze all the time. I have spent actual money and time on this game only for the servers to be the wild west 10 years after updates.
very late review but 100% worth its cost even tho after finishing story mode it gets boring in freeplay but online and FiveM solve that probem pretty well!! 8/10 would play again
Dear Rockstar Games,
I am beyond disappointed, frustrated, and outright furious with the convoluted mess that is your Rockstar Games Launcher. Playing GTA V through Steam feels like an obstacle course designed to test patience, not a premium gaming experience.
Every single time I want to play the game I paid good money for, I have to wrestle with your buggy, inconsistent launcher. Login errors, crashes, and inexplicable issues connecting to servers have become the norm. Why am I forced to use TWO layers of DRM? Steam is already sufficient. Why pile on your poorly optimized launcher that doesn’t even work half the time?
You are a company with the resources to make world-class games, yet you can't seem to deliver a functioning launcher. What’s worse is that these problems are well-documented, and yet here we are, years after GTA V’s release, and it’s still a dumpster fire. The Rockstar Launcher doesn’t add value to my gaming experience – it actively detracts from it!
To put it bluntly: this entire setup is a disgrace. Fix your launcher or give players the option to bypass it entirely when launching from Steam. The current state of affairs is unacceptable, and it feels like a slap in the face to your loyal fanbase.
If you think frustrating your customers with unnecessary, broken tools is a good long-term strategy, I’ve got news for you – it’s not. Get your act together before you alienate even more players.
Furious and Exhausted,
A classic from Rockstar, this game is nostalgia overdrive for me. I remember the times when I would wander the streets of Los Santos on my old PC back in 2015-2017. Great story and good open world.
Since 2013 until today, few games have come close to the masterpiece that this game is, of course some mechanics of its predecessor are more refined than this one, such as one-punch fights, but the mechanics of several characters and specific specials are always the coolest to play. use and do the greatest atrocities with them, fun, full of jokes, graffiti and mockery of the current and past America portrayed in the game, Grand Theft Auto is and will always be a reference for any open world game, making any attempt at replication always end up in the shadow of this wonderful and extremely fun game.
Unfortunately, the game is currently prone to frequent crashes. You can still play, but it's likely to be frustrating due to these issues. Many other players are experiencing the same problems, so my advice is to hold off on purchasing the game for now.
I lost access to my rockstar account so i cant play this game anymore, I have to use an alt account and buy this game again :(

At this point, we should have the choice to download the single player mode or GTA Online separately. Unless you have plenty of extra storage space, it's difficult to justify revisiting the story if you must sacrifice 50-60GB to a mode that has been milked bone dry, oversaturated with microtransactions and chock-full of hackers. For anyone who hasn't experienced GTA V, they're probably better off buying a secondhand copy for PS4 or XBONE and playing it completely offline, because an 11 year old single player game has no reason being over 100GB.
There is no doubt that GTA VI will be a massive game, so hopefully Rockstar will finally provide the single player and online modes as separate clients. Considering Rockstar and 2K's decisions over the past decade however, it's clear they don't give a shit about the consumer, so I'm not holding my breath.
its unbelievable how shit online actually is, Infinite loading is almost guaranteed in every single lobby except solo or friend only sessions. Ever since battleye was added, there are constant frame drops. How can you add an anti cheat, and yet every lobby is still filled with people in god mode, teleporting around, or people just straight up taking control over my vehicles. I cant even sell my cargo in public lobbies because I cant enter my owned businesses because of infinite black screen loading. Absolutely abysmal.
GTA Online is Simply Unplayable
I have been playing this game for three years, and in all that time, I have never been able to enjoy a single session of GTA Online without interruptions caused by modders. Over the years, these modders have significantly evolved, to the point where they can kick players from sessions, crash their games, and, in some instances, even get players banned without any way to open a support ticket with Rockstar.
These issues occur assuming you can even join a session in the first place. For the past three months, I have experienced a growing number of instances where I get stuck on the loading screen for GTA Online. While the main game loads in about 20 seconds, the online mode often takes tens of minutes—or fails to load entirely. At this very moment, I felt compelled to write this review after being stuck on the GTA Online loading screen for over 30 minutes.
After some research, I discovered that certain mod menus allow modders to make joining servers impossible. When these cheats are enabled, anyone attempting to join a session becomes stuck on the loading screen indefinitely, with the only solution being to force close the game.
Rockstar is seemingly aware of this issue but hasn't done anything to fix it apart from releasing an experimental anti-cheat system like a month ago which did absoulotely nothing but to satify their investors and eat at least 40 of my frames in GTA Online.
i first played this game as a teen and, i must say this game has great story, great gameplay mechanics but online mode is full of hackers sometimes and Rockstar Games needs to fix their anti cheat. its a good game. great campaign and funny story
Not recommended because Linux/Steam Deck support for GTA Online has been unnecessarily removed. Many players can no longer play GTAO at all long after they bought it. BattlEye actually does support Linux, the statement in the patch notes is false.

The recent BattleEye addition puts the game running at High settings down from like 140FPS to 10-30fps variable with inputs lost as well. It's unplayable in races and garbage to try in open world. Do not buy this.
Trying to even launch the single player base game is creating a pointless account for a annoying pointless launcher like EA does and you need to download battleye, for the single player, I couldn't care less for any online features and I would even rather be completely cut off from the online features so why do I NEED to download battleye, that and needing the launcher just makes me not even try playing the game.
the state this game is in is horrible. constant lag and 800 hour loading screens. constant crashing, the game stutters so hard that it literally (i timed this shit) 8 minutes just to open the menu and close the game. thats actually insane. to top it all off the audio cuts in and out and its annoying as hell
GTA V is a masterpiece of open-world design with endless fun, especially in multiplayer mode. the story is gripping, but sometimes the missions can feel repetitive. :)
While the game it's self is good, I can't really recomend the game with the stupid rockstar games launcher and it's intentional non support of Linux and the Steam Deck. All rockstar needed to do was hit a button but no. So yeah TLDR: Good game but is hostile to Linux and stupid 3rd party account.
I love GTA 5 but I deeply regret buying it on my computer. Reinstalled the game and it doesn't even launch. I bought a pc because everything was supposed to be easier and more fun with mods. Every single youtube tutorial does not fix the issue. All I wanted to do was reinstall gta and mess around for a hwile but it doesn't load. Rockstar launcher works PERFECT and I have never had issues with Red Dead Redemption 2 before. This is the most disappointing fucking thing that has happened to me involving video games. Hackers and cheaters have control over the experience and ruins it for others.
Circa 2016 - Hackers positively affect the experience by enabling players to use unofficial "anti-cheat" solutions to finally play the game the way it was intended.
June 2023 - GTA 5 has now reportedly generated $7.7 billion in revenue.
September 2024 - Rockstar finally add an anti-cheat system. It's BattlEye. Hackers immediately use it to control and ruin the experience for others.
Can't wait for new players, old players, MTX whales, and the onslaught of dickheads to migrate to GTA 6.
Eventually GTA6 Online will be the game I pick up once a year for a week or month to have some fun with mates and remember why we left.
Here's to another financially lucrative/creatively bankrupt decade for Take-Two/Rockstar.
Singleplayer: 9/10
The singleplayer story is great, the use of 3 main characters you switch between offers some nice twist in storytelling, and the fact you are not focused on one player character helps with forming the individual characters of these three, they can get away with stuff you would bother with if it was only a single character you play and have to get immersed with. I mean, the parts where you play Trevor being a psychopath are fun, but a whole game just Trevor would be too much imho.
Online with friends: 8/10
Online with randos: 6/10
Online with cheaters/griefers: 1/10
Since they changed it so you can do most stuff in single/closed friend sessions, you can avoid all the griefers and cheaters out there, but if you want some chaotic fun, finding a lobby with other legit players can be a pleasent surprise and perhaps worth looking for.
Great game while it lasted. Ruined forever by modders who see you as their play-thing.
Do I want to be teleported somewhere against my will, and griefed by another bored player? No thank you. I'll just consider the online game dead, and never play it again instead. 0/10 at this point.
Peer networking will never work. How about re-investing some of that Shark Card money into some servers? No?
Battle Eye need update error causing game to be unplayable. I updated Battle eye and my computer is high end but battle eye makes the game unplayable unless you hack battleeye to disable it. Please fix you Battle Eye GTA 5.

Final Verdict:
My love for the game began back in the days of San Andreas on my original Xbox, and it's still going strong to this day.
I wanna say thank you to Rockstar Games for putting out one of the best games if not thee best game of our generation.
And to anyone who loves exceptional storytelling, a massive open world, and a gameplay experience that never stops giving, this is the game for you. Rating: 11/10 – A definitive must-play.
Rockstar and Battleye have butchered this once pristine title. Frame rates have dropped on my RTX3070 to around 60fps on ultra 1080p now when I used to play at 4k ultra @ 70fps. This is due to the new Battleye implementation and furthermore the online game is now completely unplayable due to the same Blackeye. Don't forget the R* Launcher, what a lovely piece of software..
Battleye ruined the game. makes online unplayable because it makes you restart for an "update" that doesnt exist. it also makes it so that all linux users that have been playing the game for ten years with no issue suddenly cant. garbage
Yeah rockstar you've lost me. I was already tired of having a 120+gb installation when most of this is for online (I only play single player), I was already tired of constantly updating the game with content I'm not going to use, I was already tired of booting and constantly updating that piece of unnecessary trash known as the rockstar launcher when I just want to play the damn game, now you introduce a kernel level anticheat that I need installed to even access single player? Why Rockstar can't split online and story mode into separate installations is beyond me. Kernel level anti cheat is a deal breaker for me.
Edit: Not sure if it was in response to my review, but rockstar has revoked access to the game almost immediately after I posted this review. I get prompted with a message to enter my cd key which is already in use (duh, by me) and I can no longer get past the main menu. Steam support has been no help and neither has rockstar support.

No Longer playable with Linux. So still the same amount of cheaters, but now I cant play it.
I am going to give this a thumbs down because it's another rockstar game that keeps making it extremely hard for users to just get to playing the game. No, we aren't interested in your painfully attention seeking launcher, we've already launched it from Steam. And why do we need the launcher to install the deps, why isn't Steam trusted to install them? Right, so that we just need to keep the said launcher on.
So, this is what currently happens... when I launch the game from Steam, it tells me that their sh!tty launcher can't find internet. If I start it without Steam, I can log into their launcher just fine, but it asks me to purchase the game again. Ha!
I wish the Single player and Multiplayer should be a separate game installation. Hard to enjoy an 11 year old game with a whooping 110 GB File size. My only goal was to only play the Single player story and NOT to play multiplayer.

After working for so long. Rockstar and their great wisdom decided to kill linux support. I am assuming windows is going around paying off these companies to try and kill valve and linux. I guess rockstar just wont be getting anymore of my money.
One of the most overrated video games in history of video games, characters are not that interesting, very floaty movements and mechanics, very bad combat system, boring missions, repetitive world with nothing interesting to explore.
GTA 5 is the best thing ever the story & graphics is next-level feels like a movie & in GTA Online u can do heists & missions to buy house, vehicles, business etc. u can also play as godzilla, kingkong, hulk, spiderman etc with mods and list go on & on in short this is a masterpiece and Only GTA 6 can kill this game!
Game is fantastic, but I can't recommend until they fix two major issues. I do not want to install your trash launcher or your trash anit cheat. We all know Rockstar lets hackers run wild and bans good players. I just want to play single player offline and I still can't without installing all this invasive garbage? What a bunch of ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Single player is excellent. Online is predatory, grindy but fun.
They broke online on Linux with their new anti-cheat. I cant play the game anymore. That's Bad. Literally unplayable. 0 / 5.
This was a very fun game, up until I was unfairly banned for what they assumed I was cheating.
I had bought shark cards to get money legit and their anti-cheat is too sensitive.
This game takes too long to load, it lags a lot, too many cheaters, white screen error freezes you out, etc.
