I liked watching the Gamepplay videos on youtube, so I bought the game and watched a lot of tutorials in order to start playing, it is very difficult to get in a map.
none is answering,
none is accepting a new squad member
a lot of kids screamimg in the mic and calling names
whats going on ?
I wish squad makers and moderators can solve these issues

the game is good. teamwork, strategy, and general fps skill win battle. you gonna need all those 3 or you gonna lose. standard milsim stuff. this game lean more to the realism compared to Hell Let Loose.

problem is, the optimization is really bad.

Over 1,500 hours on the game. Requires heavy emphasis on team work and coordination with other players to achieve objectives. Not a fast pace call of duty type game, very enjoyable for those who like mil-sim. Requires knowledge and understanding of weapon systems and basic military strategy. May be a steep learning curve for understanding game mechanics and player formats.

as a trained professional nerf marine i can say without a doubt this is a game. 8/10 my squad lead kept calling me a dumbass

Good milsim experience that doesn't punish you for not treating this game like a job. Can be frustrating at times due to relying on other players but that's fairly typical in the genre.

Only game where you can be super racist and patriotic at the same time. Also makes you feel like you are in a battlefield. sometimes I feel I get shell shock from playing. Over all. 10/10 game

This game is a Milsim tactical masterpiece. The amount of communication and team play is exceptional. The graphics are amazing and the game play is perfect! One of my favorite things to see is all the logistics trucks, helicopters, and tanks leaving the base all at once to go to war. Once you start engaging the enemy the firefight is intense and immersive. You really feel like you are in a warzone. I highly recommend this game to any battlefield players who want to step into a whole new world of military simulation games. This will change your outlook on how a fps tactical shooter should be.

I would've recommended this game two years ago when it was somewhat playable on vanilla and the player base was decent. But it has changed a lot for the worst. The player base is a little bit too serious and unfriendly/unwelcoming and not really fun to play with for the most part. Lately most that are playing aren't that great or worth having in your squad. Most lack creativity and teamwork. They seem to think there's only one way to play the game. People complain a lot when the game doesn't go their way and blame everyone.(which can kill a server/vibe) Quality of players went from 50% of having decent players in your squad to 20% over my time playing. if you're going to be toxic at least be good at the game.... Admins are very difficult to work with and they take everything too seriously and are extremely rigid with everyone and everything that isn't part of their clique. I myself got sucked into the squad toxicity with admins and other players throughout my time on squad which has negatively impacted my gaming experience for good. It makes me question as to why I continue to keep playing. Being assertive in squad is considered toxic. If you don't do what another player wants you to do that is considered toxic. Although I was hoping it will get better after 4,000 hours of game play and updates but I'm sad to say it didn't. Occasionally you'll find fun and funny guys worth having in your squad but that is becoming more rare. The admins on all servers are quite cliquey and all have some sort of false superiority complex or inflated egos when admining and when questioned they pull the bs OWI code of conduct when it suits them and perm ban you. So avoid them as much as possible for a positive experience. Be careful what you say in chat. 90% of everything is considered offensive/toxic and they will ban you. Lot of these admins are too emotional and don't understand what their true role is in managing a server. Only a select few actually manage a good server.

For vanilla they really broke down the factions which makes it more difficult to move around and puts more stress on the Squad Leaders to get something going. The ICO is terrible. Its POV where you role play an alcoholic rifleman that is too drunk to aim to save his life after running 20 meters. With a diminishing quality of players, this makes the experience painful and unfulfilling altogether when you add the player base. The only plus side is the voting which they added recently so its less reliant on admins setting up the map flow. So there's a good chance of map and layer variety.

GE (Global Escalation) probably saved the player base after the new vanilla roll out. If you're into mods and don't mind diminishing fps and gameplay try one of those servers. The ICO isnt as bad. Guns are tiny bit better. It less exhausting than vanilla. They added more fortifications and assets and makes vanilla redundant.

Game quality hasn't changed much despite the updates. I would still say its still solid compared to other games in this genre but with compromises. No OC can fix their bad code. UE5 is supposed to fix that but I'm long gone and burnt out to stick around and find out.

Overall: This game is heavily dependent on quality of players and how the server is facilitated, how it is managed, and quality of admins who know what they are doing and know how to keep their regulars happy. It will be a hit or miss on any server. As to OWI they are not the best developers and don't seem to be in tune with the player base needs. They don't value feedback given how most of their updates are redundant. I have had good games but most of the time as of late its been difficult and unrewarding, and most importantly not fun. As an adult that wants to game after a hard day's of work this is the last game I would want to play now. Hopefully the experience will be different for you.

Great game ruined by private servers and trolling players. No no words and locked squads and resource hoarders and just the biggest bunch of bitches ever for a milsim.

The game is great, but it has one of the worst communities I've ever experienced. So rude, and thoughtless. If you're trying to play a game with teamwork and respect, I suggest you look elsewhere.

The game markets tries to display itself as a tactical shooter. It is not. It will not scratch the same itch as an Arma, Ready or Not, etc.

Where this game shines, and what keeps me coming back after nearly 750 hours, is the unique aspect in the team-play. It is absolutely crucial to winning games. Either taking/defending flags, or destroying/protecting spawn points is how you win.

Think of Squad as a hardcore Battlefield experience and you're getting the right picture. If you want a more 'adult' experience from the typical AAA offerings, and you love team-play - then Squad is absolutely up your alley.

PLEASE GIVE THIS GAME A GO - The learning curve is steep at the beginning, but it isn't too high - especially if you're an infantry player - the Vic guys can get crazy detailed. I love the shit out of this game, and I hope as it crosses over to UE5 the player-base will only get stronger. It's worth a go, at least!

Its pretty bad overall.

Its clunky and slow, it tries to be 'realistic' but misses the mark on being fun.

Hiking simulator.
3 foot falls break ankles.
Exit a truck at 3mph = Instant death.
In a group of 3 people, 1 must always be unbuilding.
Half your squad will be drunk, the other half will be shooting at you.
Microphones are only for playing music and seeking attention.

I think the community needs a hug.
It's feels more like a middle manager support group then a video game.

Terrible UI, graphics and design but if they update the game I would rate this game 6/10

Its crazy how the name of the game is Squad, but no one acts like they are in one. What is the point? Back to Arma I go.

This game is some where between Battlefield and Arma. It has realistic elements requiring far more coordination than in most of the games but has a faster gameplay over all than Arma. It has its charm. While I refunded it its not because it was a bad game. I refunded it because it just isnt my kind of game given the amount of free time I have these days. I know Id enjoy it if I was younger and had more free time.

5 years later... this is still Squad.
Clunky and unpleasant-to-play pseudo-sim. In a world without Arma and others it might have a chance, but yeah, noped the fuck out of it.

I'd recommend this game to anyone back in 2020, but now–it's barely playable. The fun part is the devs planning to move to UE5 LMAO. The game runs terribly even now, da heck you wanna improve with the new engine? An average joe playing this game (most games) only wants stable and smooth gameplay, not fancy hyper-realistic lighting or whatever the point of switching the engine.

I'd like to recommend it, but the community makes this difficult to play. You either get extremely nice individuals or extremely toxic ones, and unfortunately as a mostly solo player, the toxic experiences occur the most.

I would only get this game if you have a group of friends to play with. Otherwise, find something else.

wanna play a game where people name their squad after a vehicle and get upset when you are in that vehicle because they think they have rights to it this is that game

For a game that heavily emphasizes communication, it would be nice if the devs fixed the bug that doesn't allow you to select your headset as an output device. This bug has been an issue with the game for years

Didn't find much on a quick search and I can't be bothered to spend an hour for one random game that looked nice I wanted to pick up. Something something Tencent got stock in it two years ago. I think these are the guys that made Pokemon GO?
Do with that what you will, if anybody cares about their damn privacy. This is suspicious as fuck. We're not talking IP adress here, a Windows screen popped up, asking for permission to share my location.

NGL I got this for Galactic Contention mod. The main game is excellent by far! And the battles are intense af. It's sad the 44 version isn't as supported.
Voice com is a MUST absolutely in this, and squad movement is difficult but best. Only down IMO is not being able to spawn as a squad, so when you're knocked out, you'll be a LONG way away from your squad and with very little way to regroup with them as only the team lead is marked in the hud, and the maps are just too huge to try to rejoin them.
Often creating small local groups of random people that had to work together just to move along rather than even trying to join their individual squads.

The GC mod tho.. omg that is was EA failed to create. And what it should've been. Hell, Squad is what EA should've created in general for either SWBF or regular BF. love what I've seen so far of the game, and i've barely scratched the surface.

The teamwork is so intense, you'll forget you're just sitting in your pajamas. If you love chaos, coordination, and a good laugh, Squad is your new best buddy. It's unfortunate how this game is only terrible because of it's playerbase. Players are either toxic or have an ego clash with each other non-stop. On top of that, most players are so bad they sabotage their own team.

As an active player of Arma, Insurgency and Battlefield I should love this game, but it actively finds ways to sap my enjoyment.

For the past 10 hours I've joined "noob friendly" servers to be constantly shot at through bushes, gunned down by people that look like teammates, and one-shot from random directions and gone entire games hiding and dying to a constant stream of armoured vehicle I'm unable to do anything against.

The little infantry combat that I've encountered as been ruined by the highly aggressive suppression mechanic, where if an enemy sneezes in your general direction you become legally blind, and the fact any place you attempt to defend becomes an epilepsy warning because someone is sitting on a mortar bombarding you for half the game making your screen shake non-stop.

I love "muh realism", but at the end of the day it's a game where you're suppose to have fun, and I'm pretty sure US marines don't deal with rules popping up in their peripheral vision for the entire fight.

If veterans of your game are telling you to learn how an enemy runs (???) you have a major UI issue. If 2 pixels popping over a wall can kill you in 1 shot, you have a major graphics issue. If you have an over reliance on a handful of AT in a game to dictate whether everyone else can have fun, you have a major balance issue.

Back to insurgency for me.

Like Arma but actually feels like you’re playing a game. Not too much realism, not too Arcadey. I think I made that word up. Anyways, I think this a perfect game for starters in the mil-sim world as its mechanics, UI, and gameplay aren’t overwhelming. Great game, would recommend with a group of friends.

Great game but the community is unbearable , putting this down. the original player base of players who enjoy the tactical genre are replaced with FPS retards.

When everything just started, I was learning to find the enemy and avoid getting killed.
When I had 100 hours, I started to experience different role and kits.
When I had 500 hours, I started to learn playing TANK and IFV.
Now I have more than 1000 hours. I am still learning to lead a squad and guide our newbies.

You will think the game is boring if you play the game brainlessly.
You will feel excited if you always try to be helpful for the team.

Each game is the same and also not the same. Same map, same faction, same route; different tactics, different players, different result, and also different BUGGGGGGGGG

Well, buckle up... because you'll also be listening to Chad from Ohio yell “WHO BUILT THE FOB HERE?!” for the 47th time while you’re lost in the woods looking for the enemy that was "definitely just here like 2 minutes ago."

Pros:
✔️ Realistic gunplay that makes Call of Duty look like laser tag.
✔️ Voice chat that's either military precision or a comedy club.
✔️ Amazing maps where you'll die without ever seeing who shot you.
✔️ That one guy with a soothing voice who leads 8 randoms to glorious victory.

Cons:
❌ You’ll spend 20 minutes building a base and 4 seconds defending it.
❌ Walking simulator with occasional panic attacks.
❌ If your squad leader has no mic, may God have mercy on your soul.
❌ "Friendly fire is definitely off, right?" (It’s not.)

10/10 would respawn and immediately get blown up by an IED again.

After almost 900 hours, the Australian community has finally deteriorated to effectively a few GMOD admins lording over the three active servers letting the people they know run amok and disregard rules, and as soon as you call them out on it, you're punished or even banned. I Wholeheartedly recommend any other game.

Using UE5 to make a pretty game slightly more pretty at the cost of all the i7 13 gen cores not being able to run it. I played a round before the change and it ran fine, now it is impossible to even load to the menu. After a certain point the human eye cant even tell whats been improved graphic wise, genuinely just a shot in the foot

This game is phenomenal. Great content for it online, the coordination potential and milsim vibes that ONLY take an hour per game most of the time. Can't get enough.

Game is good but I only recommend to play with friends, also someone needs to tell meal team six it's just a game and to chill, if you're a vet of the game don't join noob friendly servers to just harass them for not knowing how to play, you're literally going out of your way to join new players.

This is my favourite multiplayer milsim so far.
Considered getting it for a really long time but I was afraid it'd be too complicated but it's not that bad.
I mean.. I'm still going with the easier roles like medic and rifleman but I'm doing okay and having fun with it so y'know.

There's nothing like it, highly recommended if you have even a fleeting interest. It'll take some time to get everything down, but the game is very accessible from the get-go. Just shout if you're new in your squad chat and people will help you out

Bought Squad back in 2016, and here I am in 2025 with 894 hours on the clock. Safe to say: this game stole a chunk of my life and I’m not even mad about it.

From the graphics that make you double check if you're actually in a forest, to the community that ranges from elite tacticians to dudes who think "suppressive fire" means emptying an entire mag at a tree, it's been an amazing ride.

There’s something magical about Squad. It’s not just a shooter it’s an experience. You join a squad, start with a solid plan? and within 5 minutes that plan is in flames, someone flipped the Logi, your squad lead is screaming in Morse code, and Steve is still stuck trying to use his shovel on a radio tower.

The community? Surprisingly wholesome (most of the time). Yes, you get the occasional mic warrior who thinks he's auditioning for a war movie, but you'll also find amazing people willing to guide you even if you just joined and don’t know your FOB from your elbow.

The gameplay? When it works, it really works. Coordinated assaults, base-building, logistics, medics dragging you to safety while whispering sweet nothings like “Don't give up, ill give you some sexual healing”

Graphics? Chef's kiss. The immersion is next level. Especially when you’re lying prone in a bush, questioning your life decisions because you heard a distant BMP and you're carrying nothing but a bandage and hope.

In short:
Would I recommend Squad?
Yes.
Would I trust my life to half the squad leads I’ve had?
Absolutely not.
Will I keep playing it until the servers die or I do?
Also yes.

10/10 – Would get yelled at by a British commander in a panic again.

Squad's code of conduct policy enforcement on server hosts is insane. you cant even have regular gamer banter without these fucking losers adding you to community ban list. lame ass OWI, hope you guys find your downfall.

Game would be fun, but 70% of the community is toxic. Join a squad, immediately get kicked. Join a squad, participate in voice chat and follow orders, also get kicked. Community needs to be more like Hell Let Loose and more people would likely play.

The game also runs like trash. Wish I could say better things about the game, but it isnt worth your money as is. The community ruins it, and what isnt ruined by the community is instead ruined by the game's poor optimization.

launching the game causes my audio to cut out . tried multiple settings in game and outside of game, game is too much of a hassle just to get working requesting refund!

I've put many hours into Squad, hoping for a true milsim experience, but what I’ve found is a community that leans more toward arcade-style gameplay. While Squad has all the mechanics to support realism and teamwork, most public servers tell a different story. Squadmates rarely coordinate, command chat is often silent or filled with irrelevant chatter, and there’s little to no structured leadership.

It may be a server-dependent issue, but I expected players to prioritize realism and teamwork. Instead, the general approach feels more like Battlefield 4 with a larger map. Without proper coordination, the game loses much of what makes it unique, reducing battles to disorganized firefights rather than tactical engagements.

If you're looking for a milsim experience, you won't find in squad. As it stands, Squad has the potential for realism, but the public community seems to prefer a much more relaxed style of play.

it runs like ass, i have a 6750XT, 32gb ram and a ryzen 5 5600X and i get around 45 fps on 1080p low settings and FSR2 on quality mode when literally anything is happening, i only get decent fps in the pre-game prep phase, apart from that best game ever

Thought I'd leave a review as I recently retried squad since the ICO

I have 1700 hours on Squad, loved it, was my go to game after work and would enjoy logging onto the same servers, having an immersive, tactical, deep fps to play that occupied a niche that I hadn't experienced with any other fps game. I could not ask for more from offworld, sure it had it's bugs but overall was an amazing experience

ICO gets announced, I'm more than willing to give it a chance, as are many of the players I'd gotten to know on specific servers, we were all excited. Personally, it killed the game for me, gunplay doesn't feel fun, it's almost as if you're a civilian thrown onto the battlefield with how you handle weapons now, PIP scopes now kill my framerate and cause stutters and I have a decent rig.

I thought I'd give them some time to figure out the kinks, and leave squad for a while and come back, and I see quite literally nothing has changed, aside from them adding new factions and cosmetics.

I'd reccomend the game, three years ago, whole-heartedly, but now it's just unfun.

I’ve spent a whopping 36 hours in the *Galactic Contention Star Wars Mod*, and let me tell you, it’s *phenomenal*. The base game? Yeah, it’s great. But the Star Wars mod? That’s the stuff of legends. Here’s how my experience went down:

So, there I am, ready for action, when the pilot of our LAAT Gunship gives me the old "Hop in, soldier, we're going HOT DROP." As if the adrenaline wasn’t high enough, he’s blasting *One Last Breath* by Creed. The music is blaring, and we're dodging lasers on our way into Geonosis. As we’re plummeting toward the surface, I can literally feel the intensity of the moment *and* the power ballad (they’re inseparable). The clones—aka my fellow players—are screaming in sheer terror. It’s chaos. It's beautiful.

Then, the unthinkable happens: the LAAT gets shot down, and I’m the only survivor. I wake up, all groggy and confused from the crash, only to immediately get blown to bits by a wrist rocket. Classic. As if that wasn't enough of a punch to the face, a MagnaGuard Droid appears out of nowhere, starts teabagging me like it’s the most natural thing in the galaxy, and I’m just left there in a puddle of shame.

10/10, would recommend. It’s not just like the simulations. *FOR THE REPUBLIC!*
