unskippable intro makes me want to just delete the game off my account this is the most annoying crap ive had to deal with for opening 1 stupid game i couldnt care less about what the intro video tells me
In a game that requires your mic you'd assume you could use a mic just like any other game. My mic worked for years on this game and then it stopped randomly. Online it said i had to download a virtual audio cable to get it to work which his already stupid since its a mic that works on literally every other game. The virtual cable worked for about two days and now nothing I do makes the game recognize my headset. Hell let loose recognizes it tho.

I truly love this game but I really think it needs to improve , the only reason i put this review as "not recommended" is for my complains to be seen thus I DO RECOMMEND this game i think you should try it out. my complains are pretty much the lack of gore elements and bloodshed, absence of certain animations, and physics. and it bothers me, really.
this game is a REALISTIC shooter game, and it stands on that ground pretty well, but who wouldnt love to see bloody hands, uniforms, bloodshed here and there, or even dirty muddy guns and uniforms?
who wouldnt love seeing when a anti tank mine blows up, the tank be lifted upwards by the force, get visible damage on the sides? permanent hole on the ground maybe?
and certain animations we could benefit from, i can mention grabbing a fallen soldier body to safety, entering/dismounting a vehicle animation, mortar reloading animation
these things i believe would most definitely improve my experience, for sure there are more things we can have, i checked "Allow comments" box if you guys have more interesting ideas relating to this topic i would love to read it.
but here is something that MOST DEFINITELY needs to be added, a second voice option for "Call Medic" where the character doesnt yell and is more quiet call, would be great!, digging trenches is also good to have, imagine a whole squad shoveling to dig a trench lol

Pros:

I originally racked up nearly 500 hours before ICO. After ICO, they game was just not the same and was personally unplayable without modded servers.
I can happily say that the most recent patches have dialed things back nicely and brought back the old SQUAD that I know and love. There may still be some fine tuning of ICO to be done, but the overall scope and suppression changes are a welcome addition. Some people hate suppression, but it really does bring LMGs and open top light vehicles into play, whereas before they were irrelevant.
Definitely one of my favorite games that i own and the best milsim game ever to be made. Mechanics and strategies are very easy and once you learn how to play its pretty fun! I recommend gathering a few friends and the game experience will be even better. 10/10 game
Fantastic Milsim experience. Can stand around in a circle smoking cigarettes in main while waiting for a tank to spawn, only to be run over by an APC. 10/10
Very good team-player game, 11/10 if you're looking on how to handle people when in position of leadership (i.e. dismantling arguments that might compromise the objective, learning how to navigate people who are generally disagreeable and shattering their uncertainty to effectively lead different people to complete an objective).
Horrible game for you if you don't like teamwork, leadership, moments of slow paced/quiet moments in matches when defending objective or no mic.

Squad is the perfect game to hop into and numb that little head of yours. is it the greatest game of all time? No. Will people know what it is when you tell them about it ? NO. My entire squad told a helicopter pilot to do a barrel roll, in the end we got shot out of the sky and crashed then I got shouted at in foreign languages, I love this game

its a great game, a little hard to get use to but once you do its a lot of fun.
Fairly new to the milsim genre, but Squad manages to be approachable to newer gamers as well as being true to itself for experienced gamers.
Unoptimized game cares about shiny graphics instead of trying to make their game run lags no matter the setting you play on

PLEASE read this… if you are looking for a strategy and team work game this is perfect. In contrast this game is not to be played for fun unless you have fun doing that. if you are looking for a open world shooter where you drive and loot and kill people then you need to get dayz or call of duty dmz this game is fine, but it’s very difficult to play and have fun if your not really into strategy games
you either live long enough to become a medic or the medic saves you and you continue playing whatever role you enjoy (unless its medic)

Squad is equally fun as it is frustrating, SL's not talking are just as common as the SL's trying their hearts out.
When everything comes together you can have some memorable and fun moments but when no one has any idea what they're doing then it's gonna be a disorganized 30 minute gaggle fuck
I have played this game for a long time, this is my most played game on Steam. I find it very fun and very unique to other shooters.
Learning Curve:
This game is very easy to pick up and very hard to master. The mechanics are simple but the strategies really come from learning the ebb and flow of battle. There are situations where one person will make all the difference. Even if you play terribly, your team might come through. Same on the flip side, there are games where no matter how well you play, your team will lose.
If you often get angry at your team for not pulling your weight, you may have difficulties enjoying this game.
Shooting mechanics:
The shooting mechanics are simple. The unique aspect of this games shooting mechanics is how it incentivises positioning. One shooter in a good position can easily take on many more. However, groups win battles. If you learn how to position yourself, when to push and when to retreat, you will win most your fights.
Community:
All the servers are private owned. There is a mix of rules and playstyles to each. Some are much more experience focused where things like chain of command are more enforced by the players. Others are more new player friendly, with the emphasis on learning the game. I would recommend surfing the browser to find the server you like, then sticking with it. Over time you will recognize other players and find yourself playing with many of the same people. I have not joined any discords or been particularly vocal, but I find myself with a regular group every game. Of course, this will require the use of a mic.
Use your mic! This is a big one to the enjoyability of the game. Even silent players get more vocal when you ask them things. Find some randoms, give callouts, and you will find the experience far better than if you simply run around silently.
Combat style:
This game has everything. Ultra-CQC meatgrinders and long range snipe fests. If you learn how to fight in each, both feel really great and have different pacing. With various factions who specialize in different ranges, even on the same map, games play differently. Games are very replayable.
Authenticity and Realism:
The game is not very realistic, but it is authentic. The guns feel powerful, the vehicles are scary, the fights feel like war. Making charges across fields while mortars rain down and machineguns shoot around you. The audio of the game is top notch and if you have some decent directional audio, will make the difference.
Stealth:
I like stealth in shooters, and this game has some great stealth. In fact, there's no stealth mechanics. Maps are large and populated with bushes, trees, you name it. There is a map that shows friendlies, and will only display marks placed by your team. This means that you can sneak around with flanks, hide in trees and generally be a bush wookie. One of my favorite things to do is simply sneak around and recon enemy spawn points and locations. I've had matches where I am laying in a bush as whole enemy squads run past.
It is very fun.
Overall, there's a lot to do with this game if you enjoy tactical shooters. There are many ways to help the team without even having to shoot.

A fun tactical milsim FPS with a steep learning curve. Takes time to improve, or so i'm told by players with more experience than me. I still have zero clue how I'm getting spotted the second i crawl over a grass-covered hill , yet can't see the enemy who's apparently 40m away SOMEWHERE.
again, fun. just, very frustrating for a new player who gets shouted at by impatient SL's
I have sunk more time into this game than anything else I own on steam, and I regret nothing.
If you are just getting into this game, I offer some advice:
Make sure you have a microphone as it is essential to having the best experience with the game. The interactions you have with other players is something that gives this game serious personality. Also, being able to call out enemies or respond to teammates is quite helpful.
Find a server that has a good mix of community (Name tags with bracketed descriptors) and randoms and then stick with that while you learn. Most people want to help you figure out the game and are extremely patient as they talk you through things. Some servers stack the community members against the randoms and then steamroll game-after-game. Avoid those as they punish even veteran players on the wrong side of the stacked teams.
Focus on learning the basic roles of rifleman and medic first as they have the least amount of pressure to perform during the game. Also, if you play medic to start, everyone will be happy to see you as you patch them up. :) Stick with your squad, and don't be afraid to prompt your squad leader for some directions if you don't know what to do. It's easy for a squad leader to get overwhelmed organizing things, and so let them take their time responding.
Once you have a feel for those two roles and how a round usually plays out, expand out to higher pressure roles such as anti-tank, machine gunner, ect. Don't jump into an heavy anti-tank or engineer or sniper role until you feel confident in your skills as they experience the most pressure to perform and respond to immediate threats. Snipers that don't perform are nearly universally looked down on and so be ready to own that if you are going to try it out.
You will find what you like best and be deadly with it.
You will figure out the radial menus and swapping weapons after some initial confusion under fire.
You will have a good time and laugh at the absurdity that occurs.
I hope you find it as engaging as I have!
If you like Hardcore mode in shooters i.e. no mini map, increased damage and friendly fire this is your game.
Audio is fantastic in this game.
great game with a group of friends, solid teamwork makes it more enjoyable! No cod 360 no scoping here but sometimes when faced with opposition it feels like they sure do it ;) , learn your uniforms or you will be shooting teammates like my buddy does.... 9/10 if you enjoy military shooters and shooting the crap talk wise!
A friendly engineer put an IED on my bike, told me to drive into the enemy position and I would get 70 virgins in heaven, was dodging bullets and tank rounds, as I was getting close to the enemy HAB, the engineer prematurely detonated my bike, I died and got no virgins, 10 out of 10 will commit war crimes again

In my few hours playing i have found the game very enjoyable as long as you find a good server with good people like i have. The game for sure has a learning curve and is not just your regular shooter but for the right audience i think the game is great!
I understand there is a 2 hour policy but this game is so technical AND SLOW that you would need to spend at least 2 hours deciding if it was even any fun.
1 GAME is 2 hours long!
The training can be close to 2 hours long.
Walking because you can't run for more than 100m is eating into the 2 hour time.
The reason this game is awful though is the players that have been playing it. What made me quit is I asked a question that albeit I should have learned in the training, I forgot for that moment and so I asked another squad that was requesting my help. The response was telling me to go fuck myself and redo training which I spent about 2+ hours (not including hours of YouTube videos). Then they tried to kill me.
For a game that should be about working together, you will find that IF you decide to "work as a team," what that really takes on to mean is you will be doing bitch work that no one wants to do. This game is a dumpster fire waiting to explode because you either ARE a toxic player breaking simple rules or you BECOME a toxic player bullying and threatening new players until they give up.
As a 14 year EOD combat veteran, this game had so much promise to actually work as a team and trust hardworking players in a competitive milsim but in the end it's a broken game where banned-CoD players show up to piss off people who seek to escape from real life stress for a positive game because they essentially hate social interactions.
I really wanted to play this game but it kept crashing. gave me an error code after the intro played.. if steam allowed returns after 2 hours i would have kept trying to troubleshoot but after seeing the intro enough to accumulate 100 minutes.. i just gave up.. I know this game is good but i could risk the not being able to return if it would never work... idk what to rate but ik ill still recommend a game i have never played because i know its good.. its a shame if i was able to get working i will obviously pay for it but i just couldnt risk it.. its christmas time.... i hate i couldnt experience this... ..on a side note make it to where you can skip intro... that is literally the only reason i couldnt troubleshoot and play...
Ever had those moments where you just had to stand up because of pure exitement in movies? Well this games makes you feel like your in the movie.
You either deliver freedom with the western forces or listen to some random 40 year Old middle Eastern guy play bass boostes arabic Music while absoloutely screaming at the same time hes firing RPG’s and machine gunning as insurgents.

Another milsim loserfest for fruits who prefer to sit around chit chatting and running for miles on foot (just to get sniped) rather than actually enjoying combat and shooting enemies. As with all milsim games, it could be awesome if it didnt require so much ridiculous effort to actually see some combat.
Came back after three years and infantry combat in this game has been made so much less enjoyable.
A very toxic and unwelcome community towards new players, despite playing in servers that are tagged "new player friendly", you constantly hear the neckbeard vets complaining and harassing the newbies. Other than that, it seems like half of the server - if not more - is either mute or not willing to communicate at all. You are going to have a much more fun time playing HLL or Arma than this game - though they might not be as tactical as Squad (especially HLL) they sure do have a much better community. If you are reading this, just give Arma Reforger a try instead, you can thank me later.
Squad is a game of patience
Walk for 10 minutes, crouch walk for 10 minutes, Prone crawl for another 10 minutes... get shot in the head by a friendly, wait 5 minutes to spawn back in

I love this game but I can't recommend it because of its extremely bad optimization, even at the lowest settings, it sometimes randomly drops to 5 fps, while running at 144+ during others.
Performance issues have been known for a very long time but the devs don't seem to care that much about it.
Cracka game. Requires a lot of teamwork etc, otherwise you won't have any fun.. It's in the name.
bad game move 40 feet slowly and your half jerking off, say your a noob? you get kicked form the squad even if your a rifle man, somehow worse than the arma 3 community and thats saying somthing!
Admins can ban for whatever they want, once you get banned from 2 servers your copy of the game is bricked and you cant play on any servers,
Also no VOIP enemy chat on the offficial vanilla servers which sucks
good game just join a good community and you can find good SL's otherwise with a bad squad lead or command game's can feel pretty terrible.
With the recent changes to combat, the gameplay feels far less team-oriented, and teamwork feels like its become almost irrelevant during fights. I understand the effort to address complaints about "noodle arms," but I really enjoyed the game over the past few months since getting back into it. However, this recent combat update is making me want to play less.

Was good - but the game recently had an update that made combat more direct with stamina meaning less - making it easier to land shots on targets.
I already was feeling not up to par before the update but enjoyed playing supporting roles but i'm feeling to old and slow to do anything else now.
If you were looking for a slower paced Mil-Sim FPS style game this was it, but if it continues to go this way it really isn't it anymore.
I played the game a long time ago, before I signed the dotted line. I've since joined, served, done things I hate myself for, got out honorably, visit the VA monthly for blood work, and for the first time in a long time, I thought "hey, I kind of miss things. Maybe I should check out that old game I played and see if I can find some guys to hang out with." After all, being around people who don't speak the language can get pretty lonely, and I've heard vets like to play games like these for fun. How bad could it be?
Man, I didn't even get past downloading the game. I tried to join a server, got rerouted to request access through discord. Joined the discord, hopped in a vc, and was immediately told to go kick rocks for not "following SOP." I have absolutely no idea what the actual f**k these pre-pubescent nerd herders were talking about, since I had only just joined the discord to "request access." LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. I cannot make this shit up. After asking what they meant by "following SOPs," (keep in mind, the last time I heard the word SOP uttered from a human's mouth was when I was requesting mass for my senior officer's refusal to uphold SOPs leading to the death of a friend), I was then blasted by someone with a lisp for (and I fucking quote) "behavior unbecoming of a wannnabe boot."
There are phone numbers in my phone that don't work anymore. I don't sleep at night, and my kidney's are failing from adrenal fatigue. I might be one of the few people who own the game that have called out a real 9 line over encrypted satcoms before. I have not been called a boot in years. 1/10, way too realistic, definitely don't recommend. Join the military instead. They'll still treat you like scum, but at least it will be coming from someone who's actually threatening and you can get paid a little bit too. Just kidding, they won't pay you shit, but at least you'll get some action, unlike what this game has to offer. If getting treated like a recruit by a kid who lives with his parents is what you're looking for, this game is for you!
