Blaster Shooter GunGuy!

Was this made badly on purpose? God. Concept- Fine. Execution- Terrible. First things, there's no backstory. We're just randomly put in a desert searching for gems and the only proper interaction we have is with the wizard saying how to dash. Levels were difficult but doable, however some of the gems such as in level 1 are so well hidden it makes gameplay a bore.

So what was fine about it?

Idk tbh, I was just being nice. Game sucks and I regret buying it. I don't recommend buying this unless you're old enough to have played Super Mario in 1999 on release date, but even then you'd probably still have higher standards.

P.s on a side note to the other reviewers, Downvoting a game just because the developer said mean things to you is Bare Petty and honestly says a lot about how easy it is to offend you @o@.

Awful. Enemies take way too many shots to kill which is ironic considering the game's name. Really was not a fun time.

The biggest flaw with this game is the control. Controlling is awkward. Not to mention that the game is full of platforming. I love platforming games, but this game it feels very stiff. Not to mention that the default character's weapon is useless because it is too slow. The game's challenge comes from horrid controls. I got this game for 50 cents, but even on sale that low I cannot recommend this game. There's much better game's out there. Even for free, this game wouldn't be worth the frustration. I tried to finish the game before posting this review, but it's just not fun.

A stupid application that does not work properly. It is recommended only if you like hurting yourself.

"Should I buy this game?"

Entertaining and has its own charm. The presentation is unambitious, but the game offers some interesting challenges within its rules, and it is reminiscent of Mega Man. You also get that old familiar satisfaction from finally completing a level after manically reattempting 50 times.

I was just starting to get into the game, kinda figuring out the controls when suddenly level 4 shows up. The difficulty ramp, and I'm not that good at games but even so, seemed really out of place and ridiculous. I liked what they were doing but the control scheme is just annoying and without mastering it you won't get very far.

The controls are awful. The buttons you have to press are are randomly placed along the keyboard and mouse. Running makes you way faster than it should. Besides that, the first level should be a tutorial, not a full demo of what you've just put youself into.

It is pretty, and could be a good game, but the responsiveness of the controls makes it way harder than it should.

By the way, the developer should change the death font and make the blinking slower (why does it blink, anyway?), as it is really hard to read sometimes. (Maybe put a layer behind the letters to give it a little bit more contrast?)

OK look im no game developer but at this point, gamers expect a lot more than this. I could go on why this game SUCKS, but I'd be repeating other comments.

A wannabe "I wanna be the guy" - Ripoff. The sprites are of extremely low quality, the controls are fukked beyond believe, the level design is baby-tier (not the difficulty but the layout). It feels lifeless, it feels boring, it's garbage.

This game is a "blast" to play! If you like games like Super Meat Boy or I Wanna Be the Guy, you MUST try this game out. The levels are fun and challenging, as well as rewarding when you finally figure out the algorithm, nothing is random here so learning how to manipulate how you approach each section untill you progress past it becomes muscle memory which I love.

I will be updating this as I get further in but I wanted to get a positive review up here asap because it seems this game is getting some un-needed flak from people who maybe bought a game they didnt fully expect what it entailed.

This aint no easy ride folks play it a couple hours at a time and come back later to progress.

**AS A DISCLAIMER, I HIGHLY recommend playing this game with a controller, I really dont see it being easy to play otherwise, keyboard is too clunky. I tried to bind the keys using the games feature but it doesnt detect my gamepads analog sticks (may cater to xbox controllers) so I used the simple and small program joy2key to bind my keys to my controller manually, this imrpoved my gameplay experience 2x easily, making it feel like I was actually in full controll of my character

This is a great game and if you are interested in challenging platformer/shooters you need to pick it up.

Pros:
-very cheap price
-lots of content, there are 56 levels strewn across 8 worlds. Every level has 3gems to collect and a time trial. Each world ends in a boss fight.
- the worlds have a nice variety, sure you have the token ice level seen in every platformer but you also get cool levels like the moon and prehistoric times each with their own unique flair and obstacles
-lots of characters to unlock. Characters are unlocked by collecting gems and completing challenges, the character selection is pretty cool and lets you play as all manner of things from a cowboy dog to a banana peel and other silly things
-each character has different abilities, they are not just pallete swaps. Choosing the right character can make certain levels much easier and it is really fun to figure out the best tool for the job.
-good boss fights
-cool dash mechanic, there is a dash button and you can dash in mid air as many times as you like. Mastering the timing of your dash and how you control your jumps is integral to success.
-tight controls
-challenging but not cheap. The challenge in this game is just right, you will die but it is not hair pullingly frustrating either.

Cons:
- no real joystick support. Not a problem if you use joy2key but native support would be nice
-the music and sound effects are generally pretty weak

Overall for $3 you cannot go wrong with this game and if you have any interest in this style of difficult game you definitely should pick it up.

Blaster Shooter GunGuy! is a fantastic game that can explained in one sentence: You play as a guy(s) who has to get jewels and kill enemies, while dying over and over again while smashing his keyboard.

Funny enough, I seem to be having the complete opposite problem of everyone else. As a masochist of gaming, I was looking forward to this, but I find this game to be too easy. For a game to be compared to IWBTG, I was expecting the worst, but this is actually pretty underwhelming. Maybe it'll get harder, I've only beaten the first two worlds (In about 20 minutes) so far, but from what I've played it's not too impressive. The gameplay is solid, but everything else kinda falls flat. The graphics are flat, the music is just one very short loop throughout the whole world, and the bosses are kinda lame. The second boss almost literally didn't do anything to me. Only once he dropped 3 giant apples at me, but I was able to avoid them without even moving. The levels can be pretty short and I found myself just dashing through most of them. There aren't any real obstacles or challenges, just a few spikes and enemies here and there with the occasional cannons. Again for a game to be compared to IWBTG I was expecting very tight jumps, hazards everywhere, very quick deaths, etc. My main issue though is the controls. SPACE jumps, SHIFT dashes, WASD moves, and LEFT CLICK shoots. It may not sound too bad but it's murder on your fingers especially for a game like this. Would have been so much better if the arrow keys moved, Z jumps, X shoots, and SHIFT dashes. Or at the very least an option to remap the controls would have been super nice! Also, this doesn't affect my review in any way, but some achievements would be great for a game that claims to be super hard because it gives you something to show off your hard work for. This game isn't BAD. For .98 it's pretty great fun, but it does need a lot of polishing up. As of right now I can't recommend it though.

I'm the guy whose vid the dev has been posting links to. The game tags and description of this game DO say that it's a difficult game. Level 4 was indeed the hardest level I've played in the game thus far. Here's the thing though: I like games where I can't just breeze through and go on a huge rampage. I like games that challenge me a bit. I guess I just like to persevere through things and feel a higher sense of accomplishment upon completing the challenge. If you feel so put off by a game that actually presents a challenge, I'm sorry you had to spend a whole dollar on the game. I will continue to press on through this game and have fun with it!
And no, I had no clue who the developer of this game was prior to downloading and playing the game.

The number one problem is the lack of controller support . Platforming and keyboards dont mix. Can't give that game a recommendation or even a review without a proper control scheme.

This game is a standard shooter game, however it is heavily flawed.
The very first thing i saw that was horribly wrong was the main menu.
After a basic title screen with flashing instructions it greets me with a boring new / load game select screen with;
Default font. No background or imagery. And no music, which actually feels like somewhat of a relief as you will see.

- The music sounds like overused stock loops from 2006 (FUCKING KEVIN MACLEOD MUSIC!! SERIOUSLY!?!?), and the graphics look like they were made in 5 minutes, meaning they also look stock. EDIT: recently, with the rebalance of level 1-4, i was able to make it to the first boss, which uses the exact same music the regular stages for that zone had. This is just terrible.

- The controls feel broken and confusing with the sprinting acting like a dash ability. The worst part about said sprint / dash is that to be able to use it you have to be moving already, which, when compared to how sprinting / dashing works normally in games, is just plain wrong. EDIT: The recent update with controler support did not fix tis issue, however it did make it mildly more tolerable.

- I have not played much of the game but i can say with certainty that the frogs need to be balanced as they are able to jump to my position in one leap even if i just entered it's (very large) line of sight.
EDIT: the pirate ship fight also needs to be balanced, with the boss spawning pirates too often, meaining i end up with a party of about 6/8 pirates chasing me at one time.

- Thats another thing that feels stock and childish. The enemies, the first three you encounter being a frog a bird and a scorpion. ( i THINK its a scorpion at least)

- As previously mentioned, onscreen instructions for when you die or beat a level flash on and off the screen making them hard to read.

Overall this game does not even feel like it was worth the 65p i spent on it.

Difficult is an understatement...
First three levels where fun and easy to go through, but then the fourth level came...
My gun being completely useless, having to hit those damn ducks four times before they die, while in the meanwhile cannons are shooting at me. Trying to wurm my way through, to find out there are some disappearing stairs at the end of the row, having 2 birds behind my back and 3 toads above the stairs.
And don't get me wrong I did give it a lot of tries, about a 100, if not more.. While the other maps just took me a few tries, this one was impossible.. (well.. maybe if you give it another 1000 tries)
Frustrated, Anxious, Annoyed, Don't buy this game unless ur some kind of gaming god or really really patient!
