The Survival Mode update adds an all new gameplay mode where you must take on a herd of walkers, grunts and legends across three different levels set within The Walking Dead universe.
Taking control of different characters from The Walking Dead universe, players will have to try and survive for as long as possible on the new survival maps set in Meriwether, Alexandria and Woodbury. Battle as Tyreese, Abraham and Michonne, whilst being supported by fellow survivors including the iconic Rick, Carl and Glenn.
The Survival Mode update will also include new weapons and craftables such as the mini gun, sniper rifle and revolver as well as introducing 5 brand new achievements and new leaderboards to compete on.
Skybound Insider members will receive additional free content on PC. This exclusive content will enable the player to play as walker versions of Abraham, Michonne and Tyreese and will also unlock the Stun Gun weapon! Become an Insider for free
About the Game
Merging the award-winning, smash-hit, indie game The Escapists with the worldwide phenomenon that is The Walking Dead, comes The Escapists: The Walking Dead. In this unique game, recreated entirely in the charming 8-bit pixel art style of The Escapists, you play as Rick Grimes as he takes on hordes of walkers let loose upon the world.Rick is in charge of a band of survivors featuring many of the original comic book cast, including Maggie, Hershel, Glenn and Michonne. Rick must secure the safety of the group by seeking out a safe escape route from each area, and manage several dangerous tasks to keep as many of the group alive as possible. The game faithfully matches the timeline of the comics, meaning Rick must first fight his way out of the Harrison Memorial Hospital, visit the Greene family farm before visiting destinations such as the Meriwether Correctional Facility and Woodbury.

This game disappointed me, I don't recommend it
quite sloppily made and doesn't feel very fun to progress in
I don’t enjoy this game at all, it was a such a grind to beat it and you don’t even get a satisfying ending to it, the journey to beat it took a few google searches because there’s points where you have to know what to do, the combat is trash, and I don’t get the point of upgrading stats when there’s guns, ammo, and the NPCs to just use to kill everything, when specific NPCs die you HAVE RESTART from the BEGINNING OF THE LEVEL(protip: ALT+F4, you’ll be moved back to when you last slept in game) survival mode is just okay, it’s pretty difficult at times but the combat is still garbage.

The Escapists: The Walking Dead is a game that sounds like a cool idea at first—melding the prison escape mechanics of The Escapists with the zombie-filled world of The Walking Dead—but it turns out to be one of the weaker entries in the Escapists franchise. While the game retains the pixel art charm and offers some decent crafting mechanics, it falls flat in several key areas.
One of the biggest issues is the lack of freedom compared to the original Escapists. Instead of the open-ended, sandbox-style gameplay where you could plan elaborate escapes, this game forces you down a more linear path with specific objectives that often have only one solution. This strips away much of the creativity and sense of discovery that made the original fun. On top of that, the game reuses a lot of the original mechanics but doesn't adapt them well to the zombie theme, making them feel shoehorned in and out of place.
Another major flaw is the game's repetitiveness. The gameplay loop involves a lot of busywork—repeating tasks like gathering supplies, crafting, and adhering to routines—which quickly becomes tiresome. The added zombie threat doesn't do much to shake things up, as the combat is clunky and often feels like an afterthought. Even the crafting, which could have been a highlight, is bogged down by random item placement and tedious repetition every time you start a new level.
Ultimately, The Escapists: The Walking Dead might appeal to hardcore fans of both The Escapists and The Walking Dead, but for most players, it feels like a missed opportunity. It’s a mediocre experience that lacks the innovation and excitement needed to stand out in either franchise. If you're not already invested in the source material, you're likely to find this game more frustrating than fun.
First of, the soundtrack for the first level is awesome.
I like this more then teh base game. Wasn't interested n escaping at all. Though playing a 2015 indie game in 2024 on a beast of a pc is prob underwhelming for me xD
