I finished this game and hated every moment of it. The combat is astonishingly bad, and "surprise instakill" is the SINGLE idea the level designers have for platforming challenges. The game is also completely obsessed with having extended sequences of reduced character movement, be they 'interactive' story moments (just play a cutscene) or object-carrying segments (stop doing these).
I think this is a deeply flawed game, and there's a lot more that I could nitpick, like the terrible enemy variety, lack of rewarding exploration, strict linearity of the critical path, and over-reliance on Bash for traversal. The game looks great, and the ethereal oohs and ahhs of the soundtrack lend a sense of prestige. But, truly, I think this game is a horrid, deeply unpleasant experience from beginning to end, and I could not recommend you avoid it more. I did finish it, so you can spare me your "git guds"—the game isn't fun.
I have a love hate relationship with platformers, but this is a great blend of challenge that just feels so good once you hit a flow state and just cruise through an area after multiple attempts.
If you're up for the challenge, don’t start on hard mode—it’ll mess up your life and waste your time. But if you're really determined, go ahead, start on hard mode, and finish it!
I can see the game's charm and all, but I can't recommend it because there are several sections where it feels like the game's systems come flying apart by reducing everything to an overextended game of Simon says. These pieces felt not so much hard to me as irritating and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
This game is a must play. You will be amazed and frustrated and want to cheat yet want to struggle through it. I suggest playing with a controller rather then Keyboard. I must have died 100 times with the darn boulder dash... felt so good to pass this area when I finally figured it out. To play on modern PCs you have to disable Nvidia "threaded optimization" AND unpark all your CPUs during game play. there are many ways to unpark - I use "UnparkCPU" app.
Ori and the Blind Forest is absolutely worth every penny. It’s hands down one of the best Metroidvania platformers I’ve ever played. The gameplay is tight, challenging, and rewarding, with a world that’s full of secrets to uncover. The story is rich, emotional, and beautifully told—it really sends a chill down your spine. The graphics are absolutely stunning. Every single frame feels like a piece of art that could be used for a background. If you’re a fan of Metroidvanias or just love a game with incredible world-building, this is a must-play. Worth every cent.
great story and soundtrack, fun puzzles and platforming, decent combat
Cute story, outstanding soundtrack and fun gameplay - nice learning curve!
All in all just a really beautiful game
I play this like once a year at least, I love it so much.
The vibe, the music, the atmosphere are all top notch, and I never fail to cry my eyes out multiple times over.
An absolute must play, if you're the type to be concerned by difficult platforming mechanics don't be, it's extremely forgiving, especially if you opt for the lower difficulties.
At first glance, this is a cute game, but after playing it, your nerves will not be the same as before. Among the pluses, I would like to note the nice graphics, soundtracks, useful game mechanics and, perhaps, the story. Among the minuses - Ori's control is sometimes incredibly difficult, the game can become boring at certain moments, and you are guaranteed to want to break something during the passage of the game.
Glowing squirrel-cat parkours through forest, annoys oversized angry owl. Best cardio ever,
amazing game
beautiful music
great platforming
hard but possible
7.5
Game is beautiful visually, really good sound and soundtracks.
Platforming is something i've missed since the old Ratchet & Clank days, honestly, I didn't expect to finish this game. The game was engaging enough to keep me invested, so we pulled through.
Only reason I didn't give it a higher rating is because I went into this game expecting tons of boss battles, which I didn't get, perhaps I should've done a little bit of research before going into the game, but man.. Game got me emotional, I'd defo recommend the game, if you're looking to get into metroidvania/platformers.
Time to move on to the rest of the games on the metroidvania backlog, Hollow Knight here I come!
One last thing, I'll diffenitely be playing the sequel to this game, give this game a shot!
Ori and the Blind Forest is a visually stunning and emotionally captivating platformer that delivers a near-perfect experience. The hand-drawn art style is breathtaking, and the fluid gameplay makes every jump and attack feel smooth. The soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece, adding depth to the game’s emotional moments. While the game is easy to learn, mastering it requires skill and patience. The story is heartwarming and deeply moving, making the journey unforgettable. With an average playtime of 10-15 hours and a reasonable price, it’s a must-play for anyone who loves platformers or story-driven games.
Pros:
Beautiful hand-drawn visuals
Smooth and responsive gameplay
Eargasmic soundtrack
Emotional and engaging story
Challenging yet rewarding platforming
Cons:
Some platforming sections can be frustrating
Overall Score: 8/10
While Ori and the Blind Forest is a short game, the whole experience is extremely enjoyable the whole way through. From challenging platforms and engaging puzzles every moment is used to its fullest. The soundtrack for the game is absolutely beautiful and hits all the right notes during the intense or emotional scenes. Took almost exactly a decade for me to play this game, don't let anymore time pass before you try it!
Ive owned this game for a fair few years now but never got round to properly sitting down and playing.
Im so glad i made time for it now, its such a beautiful, fantastic game. I love games like this where you unlock new abilities which then open up new areas then mastering those new abilities.
Gameplay was tough as in some places and i used a lot of youtube guides to help me (no shame).
Cant speak highly enough of the artwork and with no character dialogue it still manages to pull on the heart strings in the first few minutes as well as even during and at the end too.
Absolutely phenomenal game.
- Simply yet astonishing visuals
- Beautiful and emotional storytelling
- Tear-jerking soundtrack that pairs extremely well with every single environment you find yourself in
- Fluid, seamless and fun movement and animations
- Challenging but remains fun all throughout the entire game
- I didn't find a single game-breaking bug, in fact, I can count with the fingers in one hand how many bugs I found and they were all extremely minor
- I died over 250 times total all throughout the entire game and not ONCE did I get frustrated or did it feel unfair, I was simply absorbed into the game
- Challenging but fun movement mechanics, puzzles, progression and fantastic pacing
I praise the team behind this game and their efforts to make it into the beautiful piece of art that it is. Just the fact that it was made in Unity alone leaves me at a loss for words.
I started playing this not expecting much and by the time I noticed, I had already played for almost 10 hours in one sitting because I never got past that feeling that I was just getting started with the game. This is what every game should be at LAUNCH.
Hollow Knight has fucking NOTHING on this.
Ori and the Blind Forest is an absolute masterpiece! The breathtaking visuals, heartwarming story, and challenging yet rewarding gameplay make it an unforgettable experience. The soundtrack is stunning and complements the emotional journey perfectly. If you love platformers with a deep narrative and beautiful art, this game is a must-play!
The start of an amazing adventure! Love the series and do recommend you to try, if you haven’t already.
This game is so beautiful, both the art and the music. It's a metroidvania in a well-crafted world. It's challenging in all the right ways. All the abilities feel amazing and unique. Exploring feels good. The story is good. Everything is perfect.
At first, I was kinda sceptical about this game. I've read that it's good, but I was still afraid that it's not for me. But those 8 hours totally shifted my view. What I appreciate about this game is its gorgeous artwork and mesmerising music. I fell in love with Ori and the Blind Forest's soundtrack.
At first, I disliked the gameplay because it seemed slow, but after playing for some time and unlocking different abilities that allowed for faster movement, I started to really enjoy running around with Ori.
The other thing I really hated was the combat system. The thought of fighting every enemy along the way seemed really frustrating considering how unsatisfying the combat was. Fortunately, after some time, I could just skip most of the enemies and focus on "flying around" with Ori.

everything in this game is incredible, from the lore to the abilities, to the art and music, if you like platformers you will enjoy yourself from start to finish with this game
8/10 The gameplay is very fun and adrenaline boosting. Combat is very simple but very well made! Skill Tree is good enough for what the game offers nothing crazy. Story is abit lacking. Art is beautiful and well-made. Soundtrack is dope as hell!
A truly majestic game and experience. One of the best indie metroidvania games out there. Highly recommended playing, the art, the music and the game-play all are top notch.
I don't usually play platformers but this game is great. The combat is probably the only weak part but is makes up for it in every other way.

Very interesting and challenging game, beautiful artwork, nice story and lots of fun!
Great scenery, fantastic soundtrack, enchanting story. A must play!
now i am very bad at metroidvanias and 2D platformers, like very bad and i dont play them very often, however, i really really like the game a lot. This and Dead Cells are probably my favourite matroidvanias ever. Get this masterpiece of a game if you well like metroidvanias. Well now I'll play Hollow Knight next, wish me luck... please
Highly Recommended. The gameplay is quite difficult, and its mostly about platforming, no bosses at all. It's a great adventure exploration type of game. The STORY was so GOOD that the PLOT TWIST and ENDING gave me a GOOSEBUMP. The ending was beautiful and heartwarming, since I expected a FINAL Boss battle. A little spoiler. A 10/10 GAME! <3

Good game, cute art, wholesome story, great movement mechanics
game made me:)
yes
Already one of my top favorite games. Despite being a relatively short game (12hr on hard difficulty for me) it's incredibly fun, beautiful and atmospheric. Amazing for casual players looking for a good story and a game to pick up and put down, but also features an achievement (no death run) for the masochists out there
Cute art, fun gameplay and nice story. Absolute 10/10 !
It's not bad game but I think it is extremely overrated. Controls are terrible, during the endgame when ori have plenty of skills you can accidentally perform not desired action. Visuals are masterpiece but not for such platformer, it is hard to recognize what can hurt you and what is interactive element.
If it wasn't a good game I wouldn't have played it twice and got all the achievements again. Either that or I'm unhinged like the one-life mode. Just play it you won't regret it.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a very cute, well polished matroidvania platformer. It can also be an unforgivable experience, depending on how good you are with a controller. I cannot even imagine how to be able to finish this game with a mouse and keyboard.
The settings, the music, level design, but most of all the art style, are outstanding in their own rights, but I wouldn't go as far as saying this game is overwhelmingly positive, in my opinion of course. Because for all its good, Ori is also a flawed piece of video game design. For a game that is much more of a precision platformer than anything else, it sometimes requires pixel perfect execution, which would already be difficult in itself, but add to that a character that has a lot of "animation fluff" and you will get crazy at times because you missed the top of a tiny platform because you couldn't read well between where your character would land and its animation.
But to add to the difficulty, you will have to balance with an energy that is crucial to some puzzles, rare to get, AND ALSO USED FOR SAVING YOUR PROGRESSION!! Whoever came up with this idea is a very sadistic designer, because you will get yourself crazy doing over and over huge chunks of the game because you ran out of energy to save, and there's a lot of things that just insta-kills you, or with two hits. The very last level drove me completely nuts and I almost stopped playing there because of the out-of-your-mind difficulty. As someone else said in another review: it's really button mashy.
Ori and the Blind Forest is a pretty good looking game, very poetic in its settings, but that shows its age with its old design, a terrible saving system, and its try-and-die (over and over until you know the route by heart) philosophy. Play it for the atmosphere and if you're into difficult platforming that requires to execute a lot of button combos on your controller. I'm not really into the latter, but it still did something good enough for me to stick to the end.
Amazing game, amazing graphics, amazing and touching story. Also... prepare to cry at least 3 times.
This game is awesome. It's hard by the way. Don't just look at Ori think he's cute and assume it's easy... That's what people do with Rain World too... Anyway get it. Or you will regret it.
Beautiful art and graphics, stunning music. Fair pacing and heart touching story, simple combat.
A little bit difficult but very fun once you get it
Great game with cool soundtracks. The game play is awesome and keeps you engaged
This was a great game. The first type of this game I played and turned me to hollow knight and games of the sort. The combat is pretty simple but it shines in the movement, navigation and story telling. I wish there were more games closely resembling this.
Fun, emotional, challenging game, would 100% recommend it to anyone to give it a try!
Amazing platformer, smooth movement and the story made me cry a lil bit goddamn
FREAKING GORGEOUS!!!!!!
This game is my favorite game of all time. Beautiful Scenery, well thought out story, fun, smooth combat! ITS PERFECT!!!
Cannot recommend it enough!
(Also if you enjoy this one you'll also love the sequel game)
havent played much, but so far I absolutely love this game
1 thing though, if you do anything with the settings, please, PLEASE TURN OFF V-SYNC
Amazing music and gameplay. If you like platformers you'll like this.
Amazing gameplay, Amazing soundtrack, Amazing visuals
Super cute game. The controls and movement are really smooth. play each area and your own pace and go where you want. Some challenge speed runs as well. 10/10 would recommend. will be playing next one.
Side note, if you have an ambilight tv it is stunning (played on ALLY X and used a deck to show on tv)
