This is a great game. I have played it together with my 5 years old daughter. Its a great game for her to learn the game mechanics even if it gets a bit hard at the end with a lot of buttons to remember.

It's fun and it's a great mobility puzzle challenge. There's not a lot of cumbersome hand holding, sometimes it doesn't explain itself or well enough, but everything related to the story is on a good difficulty scale. The areas and puzzles get harder, the run sequences are tough and enjoyable and you don't feel like you're missing out if you get stuck. The levels are well designed and had a lot of mechanical thought put into their solutions.
I think there's a lot that can be improved on, but Ori and the Will of the Wisps does

Ori is a great game to experience on a casual basis. Cute story, beautiful artistic visuals, incredible music, and very responsive gameplay. The movement is extremely crisp, though the damage hitboxes on enemies can sometimes be a little bit sketchy. I played the game for the first time on hard with the intention of platting the game and finished it in about 10 hrs. Although it doesn't come close to holding a candle to Hollow Knight, it definitely stands alone with it's platforming-centered approach to gameplay and still has plenty of difficulty to offer for those looking for an engaging platformer.

Note: I finished the game in full, my total playtime is 6.3 hours, not 2.8. For some reason the Steam Deck bugged out and didn't give me any achievements or counted my playtime.

Can you believe that this game has a sequel that's even better? I'm playing it and I still can't believe it. I'm actively kicking myself for not having played this masterpiece sooner. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to play it without any spoilers for the first time, and oh gosh the way it looks on an OLED screen, aaaaaaaaaaaa!

This is a visually stunning game with a very nice story to boot, but at some point it becomes so tedious to play. The constant dying gets irritating after a while.

This is one of those games that feels like it’s hard just for the sake of being hard, which I’m personally not a fan of.

Ori and the Blind Forest is worth a try. The art style and music are good. The story and lore of the world is short but emotional. Thankfully, the pacing is still brisk. Platforming is good, although expect some some trial and error for the bosses. The combat is okay, although I feel platforming is the main focus of this game. If that interests you, try it out some time.

Ori and the Blind Forest is the kind of platformer that is easy to pick up, satisfying to learn, and fun to master. I initially told myself I just wanted to play through the game to experience the story, and I ended up 100% clearing the game because I was just so driven to find everything, unlock everything, and truly master the control set for this game.

The story and art for this game is just so beautiful. Truly a stellar game that I enjoyed every second of. Some areas got challenging, but that's only because I challenged myself to get through them. I'll certainly be added the sequel Will of the Wisps to my library now that I have witnessed this masterpiece.

I will say, that this might be first game that I played for 10 minutes and knew that its good reputation is very well deserved.

It is absolutely gorgeous, all abilities feel natural, how environment reacts, story, music everything seems just perfect.

Still as someone who does not play platformers much, I met challenges that were fairly hard for me so I had to start over and over, which made certain parts really boring. But they are only small fragments in overall gameplay so I am more than happy to recommend.

OK so I finished the game
Can get through it pretty fast actually.
The second game makes you faster and dash underwater and u have a mid air boost so that make mobility better but it's just as good I the first game without it
The second game did add a few more features like races, weapons (3 are like pointless though) and boss fights which aren't in this game
Also shards which work like charms in hollow knight and a map guy just like hollow knight but those were poorly done
And that's my review on Ori thus far
(put literally most of this in my steam review though already)
Beautiful game though

Overall I liked the game but fuck the chase sequences. Trial & error bullshit to the highest degree. You have like 1 second to understand where you have to go and what to do. Something that takes 1 minute to complete now takes 10+ minutes and the setpiece just becomes frustrating.

Fucking amazing. Playing this game felt like trying to not eating the whole cake in one sitting, you wanna save some for later but you just can't help but keep eating because it's that good. That's the best way I can put it. Yeah I made the cake analogy cos like what I meant was that the game was very short but every moment of the story and the exploration was very delightful (except for those escape levels) but while playing at the back of my mind I was like kinda sad that I'm nearing the end of the story. 13/10

This is the kind of game you revisit every after a few years and when you start replaying you get whiplash by how quickly you get reminded why you loved this game.

Ori and the Blind Forest is an amazing game. It has beautiful visuals and awesome platforming. The movement overall feels very good and every new movement ability feels natural and nice to use (except for dash). The game overall focuses on platforming over combat, so the combat and mini-boss battles are pretty bad. But there are also "escape" moments that are done very well. The map is not very memorable, I only remember some of the late game locations. The story is simple and nice. The music is also very good, especially in the "escape" moments.
Overall I strongly recommend Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition.

I rate this game 9/10.

Amazing game with wonderful art and music. Saw somebody else played the sequel and though I was rubbish at platform games still bought the 2 games in this series. Actually the normal difficulty was not as hard as I thought compairing to Celeste and Cuphead, which I gave up on completing (still great games just too hard for me). Now I am gonna try to do every achievement except the one life one, which is just too above my level. Wish me luck haha.

This game is all about movement, and i dont like the movement at all. Fail a jump once? restart from the beginning of the section, you will fail jumps ALOT. Theres a difficulty selector but that doesnt change the difficulty of jumps/ movement. the graphics get 10/10 the game looks amazing. story seems interesting but to be honest i personally dont want to keep playing to find out the rest of the story because of what i said earlier. maybe might just not be a good enough gamer for it but i wouldnt recommend this game if you want a chill game because you might rage alot when failing jumps for the tenth time in a row.

So, I've bought this game a two days ago and never had THE TIME to actually play it.
Well, I played it and ... I never thought I would cry so much. I wish I had played it earlier.
I lost my 3-year-old at the begging of this year, and grieve hasn't gone yet. I've been feeling very depressed and this game gave my heart such a warm hug that I can't explain...
This is truly an art form. Loved the story even more.
I watched the credits to the last person, and I'd like to say to each of them a very warm THANK YOU. You have no idea how this helped me.
Saving up to buy the second one.

The game has a great story and well-made world. Gareth Coker has done a great job for the soundtrack but i think combat is extremely mediocre and it would've done it s service if it were a platformer game instead of combat type of game. Lack of variety in combat makes it tedious while things related to movement are extremely great and fun to play (except Icy ruins)

I feel like it's a mixed bag. There is another negative review posted that has most of my thoughts on the mechanics of the game. To not reiterate those ideas, I would add that the platforming felt challenging primarily because of the poor implementation of the environment, controls and momentum control, not really because the areas were challenging in themselves. It felt like the areas were hard (in early game) just to be hard (and there were plenty of areas where I was like "can I traverse it?" when a bunch of them were just late game content). The mix of late game with early game areas is not great. I played before Hollow Knight and Nine Sols and the platforming in both felt better by miles. Sure, Nine Sols is focused on fighting, not platforming, but it had a much clearer way of telling you what is where (and same goes, of course, for Hollow Knight).
The intro music is sad just to be sad. Ok, the story is somewhat sad, but it doesn't give that much connection for the player.
The misty forest was annoying. It is not fun to be in this "quirky" area where everything is moving and you have no idea what you need to do to pass it.
I feel like I had fun escaping the Ginso tree. I think the reason for that is because it was clear what the mechanisms to get out was, and that is partially why a lot of other areas didn't feel that great. As some other people mentioned, you need to die first to learn how to pass an area, which inherently does not feel rewarding. There were several times when I was like "do I just want to stop playing?"... not a great feeling. I am somewhat glad it was kinda of a quick game. Sure, there are some areas that look nice art-wise, but they do not stay with you. Also, the mechanics of "you pick up an item that lets you access some areas but your mobility is heavily restricted" was so annoying. You get used to a specific flow, a specific way of managing your speed, and then the challenge is "now do it by being slow". If there was at least a narrative reason (see Nine Sols also) I would like "sure... ok" but doing it just to do it... Also, limit what is end game from early game better, or clarify to the player better those differences. I realize this is basically a decade old game, and I hope the next one is better... I am still to try it. If you like platforming, sure, give it a try. There is some fun in it, but buried between some issues with the mechanics and the game design.

This game is beautiful and I will (probably) finish it, but where a game like Hollow Knight challenged me and made me feel proud to overcome a difficult part of the game, Ori and the Blind Forest just makes me feel relieved I don't have to deal with it anymore once I get past it. It's often not clear to me when something is locked because I'm missing an ability or if I'm just not getting the hang of the controls, and the controls themselves feel sluggish and like I don't have good control over the character.

Still a stunning game. Beautiful soundtrack and visuals. Some of the mechanics are pretty fun. Would have recommended if actually playing it didn't feel like such a chore.

The most frustrating platformer I've ever played. The difficulty lies in either playing in a developer-approvedTM way, or banging your head against poor geometry, unclear visuals and low information. The developers prioritized aesthetics over visual clarity in a metroidvania of all games. The game consistently punished me for thinking creatively about the use of the mechanics presented to me, allowed me to level up abilities that I won't have access to for another 3/4s of the game (dash, underwater breath) and pretended that "challenge" means "impossible to know until you die to it at least once". This game is by the way not intended for casual players.

Movement is floaty and random, which works to be the antithesis of the core aspects of the game: precision and speed. Often presented to you are cliff edges, platforms, pick-ups and places that seem tantalizingly close yet are in fact unreachable. This in the devs' minds is a clever way to have the players come revisit these areas, but in fact, unlike games where this same idea is shown with a clear gap between what-you-can vs. what-you-can't do, Ori and the Bullshit Forest has you thinking you may be able to do it as a mechanically-abled player, only to always slightly miss the mark. The controls are clunky enough to where sometimes you indeed can reach places, but your character randomly works differently, so in the back of your mind you always feel like trying again. I once decided to create sideways momentum on a swing to jump off to a ledge where a big pick-up lies (you're supposed to get here with double-jump) only to be punished by the devs for my creativity by a curving angle that didn't let me get that pick-up for no good reason. Escape sequences randomly speed up or slow down the pace of the incoming danger, making it confusing and unrewarding to try and obtain extra exp from mobs and pick-ups, and rely on the philosophy of "die first, try the whole thing again" as you often can't even tell which path you're supposed to take. Nothing is challenging nor rewarding, everything is frustrating.

The combat is shallow and uninteresting, and moves rather explosively from you being completely helpless to -if your hands allow it- every single enemy being perfectly trivial, as you can dodge and redirect every single ability they have (or just warp through them), and/or use something like the powered-up stomp to nuke everything around you. Additionally, the overzealous focus on nice vfx makes it sometimes impossible to see things that will damage you as they are covered by other visuals. Some enemies die and leave damaging puddles behind, others just die in the exact same colorful way, but without hurting you. Sometimes the damaging particles will be covered by the very same attack animation you killed that enemy with.

You are allowed to save anywhere by managing a currency, but the game is full of sequences with unexpected deaths or forced cinematics, which makes it so that quite frequently you're reviving to just be forced to re-watch and wait for the same thing over and over. It also takes a while to adjust to the fact that although you are actually incentivized to save all the time in the early game (although the game never explains this to you) and are provided with plenty of chances to do so, the game then suddenly forces you to manage it carefully a few hours in, as the blue crystal currency inexplicably becomes extremely rare. This happens right around a sequence in a twisty distorted nightmare forest where you will die to terribly implemented climbing mechanics. As an added bonus of developer-funTM, this currency is also used for combat and exploration, which makes it so that every decision you ever make is stacked with anxiety over what you may be missing out on.

The experience is riddled with small instances of damage or death in fully unpredictable and tortuous ways. The first section of Forlorn Ruins has you take damage to recognize you will take damage, then carry an orb that will deactivate said damaging places, but only as long as you hold it, which doesn't allow you to use any mobility skills. The ball will then float around you but this you can only learn by letting go of it in places where you will most likely either take damage or die, only to then go watch a cinematic again, and save again to skip said cinematic next time you die. You climb higher and now sections randomly pull you into the wall with spikes so small you don't even notice them, where you also die, etc, etc etc. An honorable mention goes to the sections that introduce wall climbing, being quite possibly the worst implemented thing I've ever seen in a game with this big a budget.

Puzzles in the game rely on depriving you of information and making you suffer through chores. Watching House M.D. is only slightly more obvious and predictable than this game.

The graphics are cute, but I was too busy zipping through maps with infuriating design to pay attention to anything. Ironically enough too, it is just that, cute. Most of the maps you couldn't tell apart with a gun to your head, and the OST is either non-existent or forgettable. To some, the story is emotional and profound. It wasn't to me. I don't care about any of these characters and nor was I given a reason to. Apparently sad music equals depth.

The devs should go give Hollow Knight a try and take some notes, that game is a superior experience in every possible way. If you're gonna play this, do it in adventure mode, save yourself the trouble, although it may still prove frustrating and convoluted. If you're more of a casual player, I do not think you will have fun at all.

So, it wasn’t a terrible game, but also wasn’t an amazing game. A platformer with good mechanics, but with really tight controls at times. The movement felt clunky and slow at first, however, once you get your other movement abilities, it feels more fluid and fast pace. The visuals and music were quite nice. The cut scenes and storytelling was simple and understandable.

Pros:
-Good platformer
-Great visuals and music
-Beautiful backgrounds and amazing cutscenes
-Metroidvania-esque feel

Cons:
-Controls was tight, but the beginning of it sucks. You feel extremely restricted with your movements.

-Puzzles were odd. There wasn’t really a good way to tell when it is a puzzle or not. At least, not until you unlock the power.

-Feels restrictive, especially in the beginning. You see all these things to get, but you’re not allowed to because of ability locks. Which is part of the game. However, this causes a lot of backtracking. Way too much in my opinion.

-Also, taking damage. You can't tell how much damage something really does. Step on a spike, 1 green orb down, step on a different spike, there goes 3. Get damaged by the enemy, oh, half a orb, nevermind there goes 2. The only consistent part is you know when you're in a more difficult area is when something damages you more.

-Not really a pro nor con, but save points. Good for fast travel and restoration. However, the soul-link (self-made save points) is really punishing in the beginning because it requires energy to use. Forget to save 30 minutes ago and you die… that sucks.

Would I recommend? Sure, not a terrible game, but not an amazing game either. Decent overall. However, really punishing in the beginning of the game. Just be ready for that.

Kicking myself for waiting this long to play this. Insanely good platformer with satisfying movement and mechanics. There's a few sections throughout that would've benefited from a few more health pickups available, but overall it's a phenomenal game. Will definitely be playing Will Of The Wisps. Only other bad point is that sometimes I felt like I had no idea where to go, but you figure it out quick.

Also don't make the same mistake of saving with 1hp in the middle of a tough area like I did...multiple times

Visually stunning, straight forward and enjoyable game. Power ups/abilities are not too complicated and are gently introduced. This is a great title for the Steam Deck.

I don't like it. I found it more difficult than I expected for a platform game.

I've played a lot of platforms games over the since (since the 1980s) and this is one of the best if not the very best I have every played. I rarely write a game review, but Ori deserved it. It's extremely challenging while also being an absolutely beautiful game and has a wonderful story. I would highly recommend it.

I've played Ori and the Blind Forest three times back-to-back (for the achievements) so I guess that shows how nice it is to play.

I'll admit I wasn't bothered about it much when I first started, but once the map expanded and Ori gained more movement, I was really into it. I died a lot, but I was into it.

The areas are beautiful and I enjoyed exploring for all the collectibles.
Sure, having to spam attack on the enemies is a bit annoying sometimes but once you get bash you can just shoot past them. I didn't utilise bash enough on my first run to be honest.
The movement is very good, though I did slip off a few times due to the jump being too floaty. It wasn't that bad, however, and you get used to it (especially once you get double jump).

Going through the challenging parts for the first time - and even just beginning Mount Horu - was super fun. It feels like there's a lot at stake and it blends with the story so well. The soundtrack is a fantastic addition to the atmosphere, too.

I tried to get as many achievements as I could but I don't think I'll ever get the one-life/deathless achievements, or even try. Simply because of the hazards that can insta-kill. I wish that wasn't a thing.
But I'm happy with what I've done and replaying the game made me appreciate the OST even more.

Though I will say that the "no stone unturned" achievement was a bit daft, in my opinion. It's not only obtaining all the collectibles but also finding every hidden crevice that isn't marked on the map. Beware of that when you're backtracking.

Anyway, I recommend this game! Touching story, gorgeous soundtrack, and a cool world to explore.

Ori is honestly not *as* good as I've seen the reviews say. However, I still believe it's a great game.

Positives:

- The art style and generally look is incredible and full of love. It seriously can't be overstated how good it is.

- The soundtrack fits like a glove with the rest of the game. It's hard to describe but it sounds great and helps accentuate the moments with the most emotion

- The story is simple, but still incredible. The game prefers to show cutscenes without much dialogue which I think is something that should be done more often.

- The performance is great even on my potato laptop with basically no bugs

Negatives:

- The combat is extremely basic and boring. It boils down to clicking rapidly when near an enemy and dodging attacks

- Exploration is not very satisfying. It's hard to tell immediately what area you are in and finding ways to progress, especially later on, can be annoying

- Platforming in a vaccum is very fun with some abilities like the bash and super jump being fun to use. However, the game's checkpoint system using soul links isn't very well fleshed out which can make it a drag to repeat certain parts. Speaking of which..

- The save system of using soul links sounds like a good idea on paper, however it's annoying to use. Having to repeat certain parts due to dying very easily is tedious.

Overall, 7/10 game, hopefully the game's sequel is better.

Ori And the Blind Forest, is a beautifully crafted, fun, thought invoking experience that had me hooked throughout the entirety of its runtime. If you enjoy platformers then I'd think you'd love Ori.
I'm excited to play the sequel after this!
