Experience grand strategy across the entire theatre of the Eastern Front; the military conflict that many consider to be the iconic attacker/defender scenario. Command massive armies at your fingertips, in this fully 3D turn-based simulation of one of the largest military campaigns in history, playable as both Germans and Russians.
Start in the early days of Operation Barbarossa and follow the German invasion of Russia through to its ultimate failure. Or start later in the war and jump straight into the Russian counter push to Berlin. A massive 108 turn campaign will take you from the opening stages to a final, overwhelming Russian offensive. Four shorter Operations, spanning 16 turns each, take place from June to December of each year and offer a more condensed experience.
The bitter weather on the Eastern Front was as much a danger as the opposing forces, and the game reflects this with a seasonal cycle that has a profound effect on your tactics as you struggle to hold out through the vicious Winter until reinforcements arrive in Summer. Players must also deal with fog of war effects, and will be able to cut off their opponent's supply lines, while making sure their own stay secure.

Itremindsmeofavalon hill,srussiancampaign!AWESOME!
it only lacks air power
I purchased this game and couldn't get past turn 14, tried again and again....i think it has bugs on WIN 10.
The game is not worth the $21 AUD....do not waste your time or money on this until bugs are fixed.
Do not buy this game. Constant mouse issues causes units to refuse to move or attack. Sometimes they move in the wrong direction, with no way to correct. The only way I could get balky units to move was by zooming in and out and even then the mouse would constantly shift away from the unit. Simplistic movement means it takes months to move a new unit to the front: rail movement does not exist. Campaign mode does not matter, if the Germans fail to take Moscow by early Dec 41, you lose. Movement rates for Tanks and Infantry way below their actual accomplished speeds in the war by at least a factor of 2 or 3. Waste of my time and money.
Gameplay is too simple and it gets very boring fast.
15 USD is a ripoff
2/10
RUSSIAN FRONT is reminiscent of table-top war games by Avalon Hill. Each turn represents several weeks, each unit is basically a corps or army. I have no complaint with the game system, but rather with the game's computer AI. Playing as Axis against computer AI Soviets, even at the most difficult setting, I regularly win the game in 1942, and the same when playing as Soviets against German computer AI at the most difficult setting. So really there is no challenge. If RUSSIAN FRONT were updated with online multiplayer capability, which it currently lacks, plus reasonable computer AI opposition in single player, then I would give it thumbs up. But as it is now, it's no challenge to win in single player against the toughest computer AI, whichever side you play. Regrettably, I must give RUSSIAN FRONT a thumbs down.
Very poor game, lost money. Much worse than Panzer General or Panzer Corps or Unity of Command.
Interface is not functional, mouse is not pointing units properly. Difficult to aim unit.
STAY AWAY from this amazing stinker ! The store ads remined me of the old AH game TRC ( you long time war gamers know wich game I mean ) . It does not play well in any way , shape or form as a war game . I dont know what its trying to be , funny maybe ( if so im not laughing ! ) . Panzers moving at snails pace , huge armies barley hurting each other in combat ( I dont know maybe thier trying yo be nice to each other ) . I am sure the AI cheats !!!
How ever I really wanted to like this game and went well over the 2 hour refund limit before i saw how bad it was . I will never buy a game from this company again .
Dont make the mistake Germany made Stay away from the RUSSIAN FRONT !
Game needs hotseat mode. AI plays dumb: in 1941 a German AI will march AWAY from the border and will be slugging it out on the frontier until winter, even at the hard setting. There should also be some railroad movement in the game. Good basic design that plays slow and stupid. Better AI a must. Some tweeking to make the game more exciting would be nice too. Basic design is good and no bugs.
Ok, I did it again. If a game has negative reviews, it's not likely to be a good game. Mouse pointer jumpes all over, takes multiple clicks to finally select the unit.
Game is very slow, plodding. Units can't move far enough in a turn to make it fun. Typical turn, move all units forward one hex. Attack what ever you can reach. Not much strategy, IMO.
Refund pending.
Just bought Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa and it outclasses this game to a very high degree. I have only played this game for a short time and although simple to play it is too simple and too slow to be a real East Front game.
to easy few stratigic options. no imagination compared to modern games.
This is definitely a beer and pretzel game, which is what I enjoy most about it, in DESPERATE need of a multi-player version since it's turn-based. I've played a number of the scenarios and campaigns. Most of them are not worth the time, but the full Barbarossa Campaign on the hard level was quite entertaining, IF you play as Germany. The Russian A/I for this longest campaign makes some good moves, IMO. It seems like the game designers poured all of their energy into making the Russian A/I fairly competent for this campaign. However, the German A/I for the long scenario is HORRENDOUS. Completely passive, defensive, no blitzing, etc. Horrible. Please come up with a head to head version. The victory conditions need changing as well. In the Barbarossa campaign, the conditions change from turn to turn. A fixed victory condition would be an improvement, IMO. This game has potential.
If you are even slightly serious about wargaming DO NOT TOUCH THIS. (WitE, WitW, Opart 3, CMBB, CMBN, etc.)
Yes, the game is simple but it's also a lot of fun. The complexity is at about the level of the old Avalon Hill board games from the 1970s and 80s. There's other games out there with more detail and management but this one strikes the right balance. And it's historically more realistic. My panzers got to the gates of Moscow only to come up short despite capturing major Russian armies with pincer movements. If you want a beer and prezels game with scenarios that can be finished in a couple of hours then I recommend Russian Front.
While, I like the general design aesthetic and control features of this game, in my opinion the map and game play is too simple for it to be an interesting game. It lacks a depth in maneuver options due to the large tile scale and similarly it lacks sophistication during the movement phase. The Ai needs work to make for a good oponent. After playing only one turn I noticed the Ai diong some inexplicable things. Overall this game falls far short of expectation. Also, due to a cursor bug, for me it was unplayable.
There seems to be a mouse selection problem where it moves the focus on the selected unit to some random point on the hex grid. Unfortunately I had to give up playing during the second turn as I could not control the units. I think that is grounds for my money back.
I would echo other reviews that this is more a mobile game in the style of Civilization rather than an epic game in the tradition of the SPI board game War In Euope.
Despite and also because of my criticisms, I would be very keen to see this game reworked to mirror the style of the hexwar online board game. And yes, I would be prepared to pay more a lot more for that.
Overly simplified tablet / smartphone game. 10 Euro is a ripoff. It's worth maybe 2-3 Euro that it would cost on a phone, but on a PC it's simply too shallow and too short.
Shame it's not better developed, as it has potential.
