I waited all game to drive in the city! Finally it seemed like it was going to happen, but no we blew up the vehicle instead! 1/10
i did all that just to expire at the end?
The weakest entry of the main franchise - but still a good game.
Dead Island: Riptide is a standalone game, but also a direct sequel to Dead Island 1. This game's plot won't make much sense if you haven't played the previous game first.
The mechanics and graphics are slightly improved compared to the first game, but they are mostly the same. The plot is weaker and both the NPCs and the newly introduced main character are less interesting than in the first game. It's especially aggravating that this game opens many plot strings that are never closed, not even in Dead Island 2 many years later.
Nevertheless, it's a solid game. If you're a fan of the franchise, Dead Island: Riptide is a fun and entertaining entry for your personal collection. I enjoyed it a lot. But you also won't miss out on a lot if you skip this one.
Underated gem of a game. my game of the year
ass
Dead Island: Riptide is a perfect follow-up to the first game, continuing the story of the survivors and adding new elements that keep the game feeling fresh and exciting.
One of the first things that struck me about Dead Island Riptide was the improvements in graphics and game-play. The graphics are even more stunning than the first game, with vibrant and detailed environments that really immerse you in the zombie-infested island. The game-play also feels smoother and more polished, making combat and movement feel more fluid and natural.
But what sets Dead Island Riptide apart from the first game is the new island of Palanai. This new location adds a whole new dimension to the game, with different landscapes, dangerous new enemies, and interesting side quests to discover. Exploring this new island is an adventure in itself and adds even more hours of game-play to an already lengthy game.
The characters from the original game also make a return in Riptide, and their stories continue to evolve in interesting and unexpected ways. It was great to see how they have grown and changed since the events of the first game, and also to meet new characters who bring their own unique flavor to the group dynamic.
One of the things that made the original Dead Island so popular was its open-world, RPG style game-play. And this aspect is still present and well-executed in Riptide. The game gives you the freedom to explore, make choices, and improve your character's skills and weapons, making each play-through a unique and personal experience.
Of course, a game like Dead Island Riptide wouldn't be complete without its signature, gory combat. And once again, the game delivers on this front. The variety of weapons available, from the classic machete to electrified axes, makes for some truly satisfying zombie-slaying action. And the addition of new special infected, like the Screamer and the Boomer, adds new challenges and strategies to the game-play.
Overall, Dead Island Riptide is a solid expansion to an already legendary game. It does an excellent job of building upon the foundation of the first game, while also bringing fresh and exciting elements to the table. Whether you are a fan of the original or new to the Dead Island series, this game is a must-play for any zombie game enthusiast.
The game is so repetitive unless you have coop partner you will be mostly be bored
just as crappy as DI
fun and i had an overwelmingly good expierece
The way the AI director spawns enemies to "populate" the game is absolutely broken. Groups of enemies constantly spawn silently behind you and staggers you to death. Zombies that throws knives at you from afar that kill you instantly. Enemies that can hit you through cars while you're driving. The camera bobbing from running or swinging a melee weapon is very jarring and cannot be turned off in the settings. A buggy and broken, unfun mess.
This is game feels like the original Dead Island got an upgrade. The story continues and the ending makes you want to play Dead Island 2.
Aweful game, janky slow combat, stamina is painful no matter how many points you put into it, 3 swings and I'm out, walk away till regen because you cant run and then try again, put points in, oh good 5 swings took 8 to kill the last zombie!(kicking is your friend, doesnt use stamina). so many times I have taken zombies down walked away only to have them get back up with a pixels worth of health! I feel sorry for the people that paid full price for this but for $2 and playing with a friend it is amusing, also the nightmare fuelled facial animations when taking to survivors

yesssss queen
If you have the option to; play the original version of the first game. Definitive edition blows for both, and Riptide is especially disappointing. Truly one of the games that ever existed
(+) Points
1. Good Story ( Continuation Of Dead Island Story )
2. More Engaging Action
3. Nice Graphics
4. Playable On Low Specs PC.
5. Different Type Of Zombies.
(-) Points
1. Main Story Kinda Short.
2. Multiplayer Barely Active.
3. Kinda Repetitive Side Quest.
Verdict : Overall Its a Nice Zombie Apocalypse Game. You will enjoy It.
Rating : 8 / 10
Yea I feel like I prefer this over the original dead island game if you want some
quick and sweet as far as these types of games go. More variety with boss zombies
and seeing your fellow npc's get better gear and better vendors due to minor errands
for you to watch them improve visually.
If you feel like the game give you a headache there are modes that fix the game as much as they can
for a better experience in controls and visuals so it doesn't hurt your eyes. Mods do work in multiplayer.
Recommend it for those that wish to have a fun party game with friends or go solo and watch as your errands
improve your npc friend visually to help you out in a pinch as best an npc can.
had high hopes for this game but wow do the controls for game play suck. choppy and lagging controls make it next to impossible to play,
Same as the other game, so nostalgic- but I was not a fan of the plot for this one. Very confusing- aside from that. The new areas are so lively and so many more zombies to see~!!
The quick time for some reason was a bit more difficult to use here? But that could of just been me. The characters have their funny quips and the NPC's you can find are silly to say the least~
As compared to the first game, this just... Feels worse. The movement is kind of weird, and it seems like the range of many weapons is lower, making it so you always have to kick the zombies before you hit them.
fghjfgh
Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition is a decent zombie survival game that can be fun to play with friends. However, I don’t recommend it. The game can be quite shaky and even headache-inducing at times, which really takes away from the experience. The graphics are fine, but the gameplay gets repetitive after a while, and it doesn’t feel very engaging in the long run. For someone who hasn’t played the first game, this didn’t leave the best impression, and I'd recommend Dying Light instead. 6/10.

Absolutely awesome!
Best story line, great plot twists genuine and true.
Love it!
Do recommend!
Lovely game with zombie ,i play all of them and i like each one.
A dlc pack with padding to make it feel longer than it is.
More of the same. 7.0/10.
I was a fan of the dead island series, I didn't like dead island 2 as much since I felt the game was lacking the same exploration and dynamic zombie placement as the original games had so I figured I would come back and play the older games. I wish I could play the games but the optimization is just really bad for me I have a good spec computer but I constantly have rubber banding, unstable frame rates and overall poor performance. I've tried all the hacks I've seen online but at most I gained a slight improvement but still overall unplayable for me which is a shame. If you are thinking of buying the game then I would say that is the main thing to take into consideration, see if you have those issues and return the game if you do because it doesn't get better at least from my experience.
You're better off playing the Definitive Edition of the first game, then just moldering on to the second one.
After coming back to the base game and this spin-off after many years, I was really looking forward to some kickass satisfying nostalgia. Base game achieved that. But Riptide? It just seemed to get worse and worse the further the game progressed.
There are some "improvements" upon the base game, but they are few. A few new skills, but they're meh. A few different new weapon types, but again, meh? Guns are actually more useful and accessible now? Neat. The idea of legitimate hubs with traders that you have to tier up by turning in crafting materials? Neat. Their stores are typically garbage though, and rarely change out. Often times, these traders have missions that you need to accept (main story included) before you can access their shops, too. Sometimes these missions are significant events that progress your game. Real suave move, there. The base defenses are a neat addition, though they seem kind of.. lacking for some reason? The new and "unique" enemies are so underwhelming or just plain tedious. It's all very lackluster.
But the downgrades since base game? They are many. The map somehow got worse since base game? How? Questline is a yawn-fest. It's buggy. It's boring. Tracked quests change whenever you change instances. It's a slogfest through so many zones. NPCs get stuck on countless things. Fast travel points are so terribly-placed and there's so many missing junctions. There's copy-pasted assets everywhere, and it becomes all the more noticeable the further you get into the game. Several "instanced" zones are just the same thing slapped in a different spot. The order in which you get mods? Their rarity and impact? Way less logical and sensible than base game. Also the boat? It bugs out sometimes. Just doesn't drive. Or the driver will take damage when hitting zombies sometimes. The glades? The overabundance of water literally everywhere? It made me want to consume all of the alcohol I had loot-goblin'd in one sitting. The further you get in this game, the quicker you'll just want it all done so you can move onto something else.
But what about characters? What changed with them? Sam B stayed mostly the same, along with Xian. John is a neat slugger who is pretty fun even though you exchange around 1 minute of legitimate dialogue with him. Logan got nerfed a bit. But Purna? The "support specialist" gets actives and passives that heavily eclipse every other character (even in melee and durability) despite being a gun-focused character. She can do just about everything all of the melee folks can do, but better for reasons unbeknownst to me. Heavily overclocked. Standard? Raging out? Doesn't matter. Her damage and durability bonuses are through the roof with just about everything. Unsurprising as well, she's just as annoying as she was in the base game. The new folks you meet throughout this campaign are somehow even more forgettable than base game was, as well. It's like this massive swell of incompetence that drags you in for the non-consensual ride.
Is the game playable? Well, yes. I don't think there's really anything "game breaking" to deal with here in just my friend and I's experience. Worth the chump change it costs? That's up to you, champ. Is it enjoyable? At first. Then it tapers, and wanes, and becomes aggravating after time. I'm not gonna slap a recommend on this simply for the "hurr hurr, more bonk zombie for fun" memes. This game somehow took base game and made it fundamentally worse. How? Maybe the scientists back on Banoi could tell you, because the ones on Palanai surely couldn't.
"Dead Island: Riptide - Definitive Edition" offers an enhanced and expanded zombie-slaying experience, building upon the strengths of the original game.
The game's open world and focus on melee combat provide a satisfying and visceral experience, allowing players to unleash their creativity in crafting unique weapons.
I like the game.
Zombies
Story: 5/5 except for the last mission. The main bad guy should have stayed in the castle under supervision but he somehow managed to follow the player.
Graphics: 5/5 in my opinion they are pretty well detailed tho setting the brightness to meddle or slightly higher is a must since you really cant see anything in the slightly darker areas and the sun can blind you if you go too far
UI: 5/5 simple and effective
Game mechanics: 2/5 fighting a horde is sometimes easy to decently hard depending on what weapons you use. After being hit you get like a stun effect which is sometimes annoying because it makes you miss your target, reasonable mechanic. The reason why i said 2 is because of the weapon handling. Auto locking on to targets is usually fine at longer distances but if in panic and want to hit a specific enemy its nearly impossible. Not only that but it also auto aims for center mass which in a zombie apocalypse isnt what you would aim for. Sometimes its funny with blade weapons but not effective unless they are a 1 shot, also you cant disable this feature. Its good for controller but nothing else. And also stunning the enemy is pretty much impossible if they attack you, even kicking, sometimes it works but usually it doesnt and that counts for all the zombie classes
AI: 3/5 zombies are decent enough but sometimes they are truly blind. also in the cutscenes the movement of the characters looks alien like. For example their mouth movements are awful.
Overall a 3.5-4/5 sometimes frustrating with a few funny moments like the ragdolls
enjoyed a lot with Dead Island Riptide, another game that I used to play.
not bad continuation of Dead Island
This game was one of the first games I downloaded illegally as a teenager. I was drawn to the captivating storyline and intricate weapon crafting system. It remains a top choice if you're into gory zombie genres. However, the game seems to be lacking optimization, leading to occasional glitches like falling through floors or mountains when taking shortcuts. Gameplay-wise, it's not overly challenging as the zombies and monsters are relatively easy to fend off.
Very cool hack'n slash games, first chapter was better.
Sound bug is annoying.
8/10

do not buy or play
great game highly recommended
Nah, I'd pass.
use to feel so good back in the day now it just feels like a weird off brand game.
graphics are lacking as for a 2016 game, the story is short, and the game in general is worse than the main previous game, but it is still pretty fun and its a completion and the end of the whole story of the main group. its worth up to 5 eur and not more, so buy it only on discount.
Good sequel to the first game, makes a lot of improvements to the combat and skill system. Graphic and story is nearly identical to the original. Feels kind of like a DLC more than a second game. Overall improvement, but even shorter than the first game (roughly 7-9 hours to beat depending on side quest completion.

Interestingly, elements of this game's zombie visuals have been borrowed by TBS for their game "No More Room in Hell 2". It's amusing to see that the same zombie reactions when getting hit were replicated in TBS's knockoff.
I would recommend playing DIRE, but be cautious of bugs and avoid trying to explore beyond the map's boundaries, as you might fall through the floor.
For a better solo experience, consider using the Cobra mod menu available online, but refrain from using it in online lobbies to ensure fair play. [Use it at your own risk]
Such a classic in the franchise great game with friends and own your own.
Buy when on sale.

Excellent Game
A shorter yet more polished version of Dead Island. New attacks and weapons, better maps and missions, guns are usable against zombies and a good focus on the player's survivors against the hordes.
Nostalgic
great game great mechanics originally played this on the 360 back in the day great memories on this game especially with Left 4 Dead at the time these were your top tier zombie games back in the day no I didn't forget about Dead Rising lol 8/10 would slay again
