DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!
Worst game optimization I have ever experienced and I’m using a brand new PC with a 4080 SUPER & 7800X3D.
Between the game breaking Input lag and extremely poor mouse lag (even in the menu) I cannot recommend this dungheap. Buy it on console if you must…
0/10 due to being impossible to operate let alone play.
Edit: 2288x1430 resolution (about 1/2 my normal screen resolution…) solves roughly 95% of the input lag but it’s still rather floaty and thus quite noticeable compared to say Batman Arkham Origins (only other game I’ve played on the same PC). This is NOT how DI played on Xb1 all those yrs ago
Current “Video” settings;
Resolution: 2288x1430 (match your monitor resolution or you’ll’ve a smaller game window…or maybe not since my PC’s resolution looks weird now having “lost” a row of icons on the right side and possible left but I can’t tell art due to the game window blocking that side)
Texture Quality: High
Full Screen: On
Shadow Map Size: High
Foliage Quality: High
V-Sync: On
View Distance: 4 less than max
Ambient Occlusion: On
Motion Blur: Off
The last 3 are On as well
Hope this helps someone navigate any issues they were unfortunate enough to run into
Dead Island is a classic that aged well. It has a unique atmosphere - zombies in an island resort. It also has an engaging plot and interesting player characters and NPCs.
Compared to Dead Island 2, the graphics are outdated and the mechanics are clunky. Dead Island 2 kept everything that was fun in the first title and discarded the rest. Nonetheless, the original Dead Island still is worth at least one playthrough.
techland released a pre-alpha version for full price
My rating: 3/10
I honestly want to say something good about this game, but I can't think of anything. Starting from the beginning, when we choose from 4 characters who we want to play, why do all 4 characters appear in the plot? Even though they are nowhere to be found and we can't talk to them. For me it makes no sense. The plot is just boring for most of the game. Bring this, bring that, then go get this. And that's it, nothing happens in the meantime. It got a little more interesting towards the end, but it was hard for me to make sense of what was happening there. Firearms, unfortunately and surprisingly, have almost no effect on zombies. The only thing that's cool is the blade weapon + zombie limb combination.
Years ago, I had the original version from a non-legit source, and the graphics is what kept me from playing it through. I bought the Definitive version on steam a while back and I could tell a big difference in the graphics. It was much better looking, ran smoother, and had less artifacts (no V-Sync required this time around.)
I was extremely lucky I guess, as I had no major issues with this version of the game. There were some minor bugs, like a few cars disappearing after I went inside of a building (which would suck if I had supplies in the bed of a truck.) But other than that, the game played like Aces for me.
I really enjoyed the game-play and customizing melee weapons. I love the slow-down effect when you slice an infected's head off in one clean blow. The durability system (while annoying) is probably less harsh than it could be. Considering how thick some of the infected bodies are, your machete would really dull quite quickly.
I do think that the inventory space is a little too limited for all characters, considering how much junk is found EVERYWHERE. And if you return to an area you've already been to, or just do a Quick Save and then Quick Load, the items are back in the suitcases... not very realistic, but I guess it works.
I do wish there was a better mapping system when it comes to Quests and Objectives. Some quests require you to go pick up an item from the other side of the island and then return it back to this person, only to end up getting a quest from someone else who requires you to return to that same area on the other side of the island. There's a quick travel feature, but the maps required aren't as abundant as it should be considering how big both of the islands are.
The story line wasn't too bad either, although I feel like there's some plot holes they could have filled. There's also some areas that seem like they would lead to a secret cache or something, but are really just there to waste your time, or draw infected out of hiding.
The most annoying thing in the game is collecting the special Skulls to get the Legendary Developer weapons, as they require some very specific things to be accomplished in a very specific order, otherwise you will cut off access to that skull until later in the game, or possibly just lose access completely. Also, guns seems much a bit under powered once you either get the developer melee weapons, or just learn the right blueprints. Elemental Melee weapons are tïts!!!
It is also good that the infected level up as you do, so that you are always getting a semi-decent amount of experience. This is also helped by the fact that they will re-spawn once you're out of an area long enough. At first, this was also annoying, but considering how much experience you need to get to level 50 (or beyond), it makes sense.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this game and would play through it again. I recommend it, but be wary of the bugs that others are reporting. You may luck out like me, though, and have no issues at all.
This is one of the games of all time. Why isn't anybody talking about the unique and innovative analog combat system, where you could swing your weapon in any direction using the thumbpad? They scrapped in it their future titles, and no one has copied it since.
I remember seeing a cute girl working at Gamestop way back in the day, and I talked to her about this game. She said it was boring, she didn't like it. I never talked to her again after that. Not because of Dead Island, I just never saw her again. I like the game. I've always been a fan of zombies, and this game does zombies right. The runners are scary as hell. I did notice upon multiple play throughs that the spawn points on the map are the same everytime, but this is still a great game with lots of tension and scary moments.
This is a good game. They put love into this one, and you can clearly tell. For example, the car driving in this game has no right to be as good as it is for how little you actually do it. The driving here feels better than Far Cry 3.
It's not for everyone, but the right person will enjoy this game. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing, but this one holds a special place in my heart.
Ever since my friend found a gernade, he has been creating 100's of them and throwing it literally everywhere, even during the times when it's only one easy zombie to kill. He kills me, the zombie(s) and himself.
10/10 He also drives over me whenever I don't get in the car with him
Dead Island Definitive Edition is a good zombie game, made by the creators of Dying Light, this is a cool and fun zombie game set in a tropical island.
Hmm great story from different sides especially Rider White's story that he will not stop at nothing to rescue his wife like he's some kind of bounty hunter like me and hunts for credits, A republic scum whom will stop at nothing to defeat the empire and their evil ways, or finally the Imperial dogs that the imperials are who does not care about findin any hope & crush our dream.
What A Mandalorian doesn't find fun in this game is that as you play Rider White's Story there is no Multiplayer option but then again if this game can't give us that then I guess "This is The Way!" & "This has & always will be The Mandalorian way!"
Anyways I'm looking forward to play this game with my friends or anyone who has this game so we can co - op & enjoy it K

I absolutely love this game. I got the platinum on this game and Dead Island 2 on PS5. One day I will sit down and 100% it on steam as well. To be honest, I never was a huge fan of riptide but I might go back and give that one a chance. If you are looking for a fun, open world zombie game to play with your friends. Dead Island is the game for you!
Considering its age, this might be the worst-optimized game I have ever encountered, and I am not being hyperbolic. Playing in my native resolution (1440p), I was unable to get more than 20-25 FPS in the starting hotel room. After dropping to 1080p and setting every single graphics setting to lowest, I still barely got 40 FPS. This edition is from 2016, and I have an RTX 3070.
Absolutely NOT recommended, unless you're willing to roll the dice on whether or not it will magically play nice with your hardware configuration.
This is one of the best games I ever played just hate how their is not colored cars anymore it made the game a lot more fun. but if you looking at this game and thinking ab getting it just buy it and thank me later this game is pure gold.
This is a really good zombie game with an interesting plot and a good set of characters you choose to play from. Unfortunately the game didn't live up to it's amazing trailer but nonetheless it's still pretty good despite the cringe cutscene animations and etc.
Chill lil zombie game. More enjoyable with friends. Now starting riptide.
Weapons, combat, upgrades, and quests are all very simple and quickly mind-numbing. Feels like it was probably ok for the time but has not aged well in the modern gaming landscape. Being able to point at the "Dying Light" series as an objectively better overall experience in the same vein certainly doesn't help this game either.
Most of the time you are basically running back and forth from point A to point B then back; fetching various items. The crafting system is stunted and the enemies are stagnant and same-y. A comfortable pass with very obvious alternatives.
Generic 2010's zombieslop; featuring a boring, garbage story that jumps around at random; drawn out, boring, repetitive gameplay. Pick it up on sale, it was a nostalgic experience. It's certainly one of the games of all time.
While i feel as if i have no right to say i dont recommend this game, i dont recommend this game. While im sure it was fun when it came out the gameplay and mechanics have become simple and boring. Not to mention nothing in the story was remotely interesting to keep me playing.
Awesome game the definitive edition is very well optimized, the story is good, im super stoked to play Dead Island 2 !!
This game does a fantastic job at pulling the player into this apocalyptic world. There are many ways to play and plenty of side quests to keep you busy for days.
If you love Zombies and co-op play this is a perfect game, not too challenging but offers enough to keep you interested, currently on my second play through and still loving it
Achievement Completion: 100%
God bless this mess of a game and I deeply thank friends of mine for helping me get a multiplayer achievement and the random people whose lobbies I snuck into secretly just for a few minutes in order to get a multiplayer achievement. You guys are awesome... even if I did end up getting kicked.
This game is a beautifully broken masterpiece. I'm sure it's not wrong of me to say that hardly anybody can take this game seriously. The charm from this game will either stem from how ridiculous it is, how ridiculously overpowered you can make your character, or both. Either way, you're going to have a good time in this game because there are plenty of laughs to be had especially with other people.
As someone that played this back when it released, I thought it was okay but I didn't finish it. Now this time, I wanted to play until completion...
Played for around 9 hours on the Definitive Edition and suffered through roughly 5 of them. The beginning of the game was pretty decent, but once the mid-game started, everything nose-dived. Enemies became bullet/melee sponges, repairs/weapons became absurdly expensive, you would die in 2-4 hits (on Normal btw), and co-op bugs started showing its full colors. About when I reached the boat, I was already sick of this game and just trying to rush through it to finish it. After the credits rolled, so did my eyes with how terrible the last act was. For $3, yeah its a pretty good meme game I guess. For anything over $3, save your cash and put it towards the much more polished and engaging sequel.
TL;DR Save your money and just play Dead Island 2 instead.
Overall: 5/10
loving it! once you beat it try modding the game as well not to many mods but enough to make its playable again
This game is vastly underrated, it was very fun even now to when I first played it back in the day. Very forgiving to game over deaths. Lots of ways to get around needing to fight off every zombie you come across too. One of my fav things to do was see where I can managed to drive the whole way. There are plenty of places a car cant go...or so they thought~
PLEASE PLEASE GIVE IT A CHANCE~!!!
The game works and is smooth enough. but you die constantly and in the stupidest ways. you never really but up resistance to tackle more than a couple of Zombies. You need vast amounts of money to keep repairing and updating weapons and the missions are moronic at times. You literally have to dive away from any zombie that has a weapon and can throw. that throw generally kills you everytime. no matter what level you get to. More frustrating than enjoyable... Its a headscratcher.... it feels like the developers/programmers have taken out their frustrations on the gamers... Asshats! it is a poor mans Dying Light. if you want a frenetic zombie game then go to State of Decay 2, Dying light 1 & 2 and World war Z. All the way to lvl 37, halfway through and the irritation continues. frak u dead island dcks.
The Game isnt so good as i thought it were, the driving were really really bad and the guns were worse even with max upgrade you cannot 1 shot zombies in the head and takes 3 to 4 shots. weapons durability sucks too
With this game, I can finally feel relieved by multitasking my body-ogling and my thirst for blood. Thanks, Techland!
Pretty fun game with a decent story. Kinda like left 4 dead but RPG.
Trash Port can't even play coop nor multiplayer with people who have the normal edition which was delisted...also the game still runs like you're playing it on a ps3 from 2006 with Dementia
I still remember when the Dead Island trailer took the internet by storm—an emotional masterpiece that convinced us all to buy the game, only to be met with crushing disappointment when the actual gameplay turned out to be... well, not that. The OG trailer was a work of art, better than the game itself, and honestly set the stage for No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 to carry the torch of over-hyped trailers.
If you just want to repeatedly slash your way through zombie hordes with friends, Dead Island: Definitive Edition might be worth a look considering its lower price. If you want something a little more in-depth however, this is not the game for you.
Before this review covers the game itself, a word of warning regarding its technical state: Despite this 2016 release being called the “Definitive Edition” of the 2011 original game, there are numeral technical problems present. These include the gun recoil going out of control if the FOV is set too high, so please consider checking the PcGamingWiki for more details. One problem I want to talk about in particular is how the game can cause headaches due to its narrow FOV, postprocessing effects and movement – thankfully, there’s a mod fixing all of these problems, which I highly recommend using: It has been downloaded 12k+ times for a reason.
Moving on, Dead Island: Definitive Edition is the type of game that’s better with friends and almost unbearable on its own. Set in the fictional island of Banoi, just north of Australia, a vacation in a sunny holiday resort turns into a horror trip due to a zombie virus outbreak – and you, as the player, pick one of four pre-determined characters with different abilities (e.g. focus on guns or sharp weapons, etc.) to survive in a story campaign that can be played with up to three other players. Once the short prologue mission is finished, you’re free to turn Dead Island: Definitive Edition into a coop-experience through an invitation system, although it can also be played on your own with no changes – cutscenes always play out as if all four different player characters are present.
Now, the original Dead Island released at a time where zombie settings were quite popular in general thanks to AMC’s The Walking Dead, but one has to admit that choosing a holiday resort on a tropical island as the main location is a way to set the game apart from similar stories. Unfortunately, it remains about the only thing that’s novel in a story that’s just bad on all other fronts, featuring a generic zombie plot with shallow characters, even worse dialogue and an overall horrible treatment of the setting. Overall, there’s nothing here that you haven’t seen done better elsewhere to the point where every new chapter is downright predictable.
Adding to these narrative problems is the game’s inability to settle on a tone, resulting in an awkward mix of questionable attempts at comedy and seriousness that just never work out. A huge contributing factor to this lies in the game’s overdramatic presentation during the cutscenes, making moments that are intended to be serious and grave - like a character’s death - feel unintentionally comedic instead. As a result, since the story of Dead Island: Definitive Edition at its best only manages to rarely reach the status of being “unintentionally funny” during co-op playthroughs, it’s not worth it if great narrative experiences is what you’re looking for in games.
While the game’s story might be more than shallow, the gameplay of Dead Island: Definitive Edition is hardly what one might call ‘sophisticated’ either: The game is all about running/driving around the island of Banoi, split into multiple zones across four story acts, to fulfil simple quest objectives (fetch this, kill that) and killing all enemies (zombies and rarely humans) that stand in your quest path. This can be done either through melee combat or through guns, although the latter only show up late into the game and are usually missing ammunition, which made my co-op partner regret his choice of choosing the gun-focused character.
It’s fair to say that Dead Island: Definitive Edition heavily favours melee combat in order to make full use of the game’s dismemberment system: Even if you have a gun and enough ammunition at your disposal, the gunplay is simply atrocious. The diverse range of melee weapons are doing a way better job instead and with the addition of using blocking, kicks and ultimate abilities, the basic melee combat is serviceable. Unfortunately, it’s also attached to a crafting system. While upgrading and modifying weapons to give them special attributes (e.g. fire or poison damage) at workbenches is very basic, the actually annoying part of the entire system would be weapon durability. Weapons deteriorate quickly during combat and while they’re not entirely gone once broken (like in Zelda: Breath of the Wild for example), they’re basically useless unless repaired at the next workbench.
The developers intention for this was probably to make you switch between different weapons ever so often, but as Dead Island: Definitive Edition makes use of RPG-like damage numbers and other stats, you’re better off just investing in one really good weapon and continuously repairing it until you find another one, which makes weapon durability feel half-baked and more of an annoyance than an enrichment – especially since workbenches can be found at every corner.
‘Half-baked’ is also what the skill system in Dead Island: Definitive Edition could be described as – completing main and side quests as well as killing enemies rewards experience points, which grant you level-ups at certain thresholds. A level-up does not only allow you to carry higher-level weapons (which can’t even be picked up and stored in the inventory until later otherwise) but also grants one skill point, which can be invested in one of three skill trees. Unfortunately, the majority of skills boils down to simple stat increases, e.g. med-kits being more efficient or bleed effects lasting longer. This is the same for the character-specific skill trees, which only enhance one particular weapon times stat-wise instead of granting new attack moves or the ability to use specific weapons. It feels like the skill system was only added to give the player a sense of progression instead of really changing up the game.
Thus, in practice, Dead Island: Definitive Edition is mostly about getting to the next objective in a boring quest, killing lots and lots of the same enemy types (that you all saw somewhere else already, like zombies blowing themselves up), as well as modifying/repairing your weapons and investing the occasional skill point for barely noticeable stat increases. It’s light fun for an hour or two but really shows it’s shallowness the longer it goes on since it never manages to evolve the formula – there’s a reason only 14% of players finished the game according to Steam achievements.
If you’re playing the game with friends, it’s a lot more bearable of course, but even with a friend group you’re likely going to get bored along the way and only push through because you want to uninstall the game. If you just want to slash some zombies together with friends for a bit, Dead Island: Definitive Edition might be worth a look due to its low base price. If you’re on your own and prefer games with a little more depth however, I’d suggest looking elsewhere.
Dead Island is an intense and gripping open-world action RPG that masterfully combines brutal melee combat, a sprawling tropical setting, and a compelling fight for survival against hordes of the undead, delivering an immersive experience that’s both terrifying and thrillingly addictive.
Yeah the game still holds up for a chill time even when the setting is bleak.
It's a chill time.
People still play online to just have a chill time.
Still have to figure out how to deal with the fps issues that would involve
playing around with the detail and turning off a few settings for it to not hurt
your eyes. There are mods for it to make better but I don't know if it would prevent one from
playing with other people online.
8/10 Highly recommended the game for those looking for a good time of the ye olden days of smashing
zombies, ugly mugs of thugs, levelin up things that make you hit and shoot better, and finding
rare hammers you smear poop all over for more damage.
Engaging story and action. Fight or Flight depends on the situation. Can't fight always and it is foolish to keep running away.
"Dead Island: Definitive Edition" offers a fun and gory zombie-slaying experience with a focus on melee combat.
The game's open world provides plenty of opportunities for exploration and discovery, making it a great choice for those who enjoy a sandbox-style game.
Mechanically unplayable so that it makes any story progression absolutely unfun.
you love zombie games? you also love big games and you love modable weapons? then get dead island your have a ball with its weapons and the mayhem you can cause.
fun at begining, but after a while it just feel repetitive. zombie feel all the same, weapon upgrade is meh, looting is not that excited.
This game is an absolute blast! From the moment you step into its chaotic zombie-infested world, the game delivers a thrilling and immersive experience. The zombie-slaying mechanics are incredibly satisfying, and the combat feels instinctive and impactful. Whether you're smashing skulls with a baseball bat or slicing through hordes with a modded blade, every encounter feels unique and rewarding.
Speaking of mods, the weapon modification system is fantastic. I love how each mod not only enhances your weapon but also adds visual and gameplay effects, making combat even more exciting. The character classes are well-balanced, catering to different playstyles and encouraging experimentation.
The storyline is engaging, and the side quests are somewhat varied enough to keep you entertained for hours. The map design is excellent, with diverse environments that invite exploration and keep the gameplay fresh.
That said, there’s room for improvement. The UI could be more intuitive. While driving adds a fun layer to the experience, the mechanics could use a bit of polish. Combat, while enjoyable, sometimes feels clunky in tight spaces.
Despite these minor gripes, the game is a must-play for fans of the zombie genre. It’s a fun, addictive, and satisfying adventure that keeps you coming back for more. Highly recommend!
Great gameplay for the time, fun setting and premise, plot and characters decision are not great.
Yes played on the PS3 with so many many hours...love the quest and fighting style
A fairly neat zombie survival game that mixes FPS and RPG gameplay, it's quite repetitive, the story is pretty cliché but it has great combat thanks to the fairly in-depth customization of the weapons and the visual effect of your hits on zombies. Overall, for its time it was probably one of the best games in the genre, but today there is clearly better games. It's not bad though.
One of the best games i have ever played! still to this day i play it. Highly recommend
Dead Island, released in 2011, is a classic open-world survival horror game that blends action, RPG elements, and cooperative multiplayer. Set on the tropical island of Banoi, the game offers an engaging atmosphere with vibrant yet eerie visuals, impressive for its time.
The combat system emphasizes melee weapons, creating a visceral and satisfying experience as players fend off hordes of zombies. Customizable weapons and character skill trees add depth to the gameplay, while the co-op mode enhances replayability.
Although the game has its flaws, like occasional bugs and repetitive quests, its immersive world and innovative mechanics made it feel ahead of its time. Even today, Dead Island remains a great choice for casual zombie-slaying fun.
Fun action game that takes about 19 hours to beat if you complete all of the missions, with some enjoyable weapons and customization options. The most annoying things are the horrible auto-aim that you can’t disable, and the default FOV of 62.5, which requires some file editing to change.
People like to compare this game to Dying Light and say that it is just a better version of Dead Rising, but the two have their differences, which makes such comparisons a little unfair. This is a good game in its own right. Definitely worth it on sale.
Absolutely awesome story, perfect scenery, ultimate photo realistic driving experience.
BUT so many bizarre and difficult to understand issues.
For example, game says Bungalow 14 is in the Silver Bungalow area.
That fucking thing is right in the heart of Golden one!
Also headshots do not always kill- depends on the mood of the game.
And there are SO MANY BUGS....
Awful, but so amazing that I have to say its worth to play for sure!
Just heads up :)
It's not perfect. Actually, it's very flawed from so many points of view. Animations are meh, combat is clunky and sometimes unbalanced, story is forgettable... Yet, it was fun to play. I had a good time playing this co-op with a bunch of friends.
The environment is one of the strong points of this game. The tropical island is a great choice, balacing the apocalyptic nightmare vibes. Also, crafting system is well made and offers a lot of customization to adapt your playstyle.
The map is huge, lots of quests, lots of things to do and exploration to do, although it might get repetitive after a while.
It's not something meant to be played alone, but really shines when played with friends.
This review is based on 100% completion and 38.6 hours of gameplay on steam with many more on Xbox. This review will also apply to the original version of this game for the most part.
Recommendation:
Would I recommend this game? Yes, it's not a bad zombie game, and one of the first I ever played, so I do have a nostalgic attachment to it. Don’t go in with massive expectations—while back in its day this was an exceptional game, by today’s standards, it would be considered an "okay" or "good" game, it’s more of a good classic. If you're looking for another solid game to add to your collection, this is a good pick-up. But if you're after something more fleshed out, I’d recommend looking at something like Dying Light.
The main differences with this Definitive Edition compared to the original are the improved graphics and the inclusion of the DLC. Other than that, you’re basically getting the same experience as the original, so it will feel a bit dated in some areas since it’s an older game. Still, it's good for what it is and will keep you busy for a good few hours.
One thing I’ll point out, which I’m not 100% sure about, is that this game seems to make my PC run a lot harder compared to other games with higher requirements. So, keep that in mind. The only real issues I had were with dynamic lighting, like in the prologue when you first see the infected and have to run away—my game would drop frames and stutter extremely hard. The only fixes were either loading into another area or restarting the game. I also ran into a few bugs: I’d randomly get killed by being thrown into the air by the map, touching an object, or even just getting out of the car. I also had frequent "survivor killed" pop-ups, forcing me to reload a checkpoint or exit the game. This bug occurred when survivors fell through the map and died, even if you’re not near them or have already saved them. Despite these bugs, the game ran surprisingly well overall.
As for gameplay, it can feel clunky and unintuitive at times, which can be frustrating. Some weapons, like two-handed hammers, don’t feel viable because the actions move your screen too much, making me feel nauseous—lots of weapons do this. Combat can also be annoying with zombies pushing you back while still running at you, which can make you get stuck in the wrong animations. The driving is okay—nothing special—but it’s useful for clearing out zombies before getting out.
The co-op/multiplayer runs well, even when connecting with people across the world, which was a pleasant surprise. The only letdown is progression tracking for the person joining the host, as only character progress like levels and loot are kept—story progression is not. You do get a warning about this before joining someone’s game, though.
The Definitive Edition does offer some nice enhanced graphics, which I think still look good by today’s standards. The lighting especially makes the game look more modern, though some models and elements do still look a bit scuffed. Overall, it does a good job visually.
Lastly, the game’s arena mode isn’t bad, especially in co-op. It’s pretty standard, but it’s a good source of money once you get far enough for special enemies to spawn more frequently.
While I do recommend the game, it goes on sale regularly due to its age, so I’d suggest waiting for a good deal before picking it up.
Achievements:
There are a few multiplayer/co-op achievements you’ll need to do, one RNG achievement, and one that requires waiting 28 days. To my knowledge, you’ll also need a controller for one of the achievements. (There actually seems to be a workaround for this if you don’t have one, but I can't 100% confirm myself.)
The achievements are fairly easy in this game. The main ones to watch out for are the multiplayer/co-op achievements, such as needing to play with 10 different individuals and two others that require a full squad (3 other players). Since this is an older game, finding people to play with might be tricky, but making a post and waiting for people to reach out over time will be the way to go.
There’s also one achievement for using the analogue control settings in the arena, which, to my knowledge, only works with a controller. The controls feel clunky, but it’s not too bad if you do this with another person at a decent level—you can just use jump kicks to get it done quickly. Once you’ve got it, you can switch back to the normal controls. (There seems to be a workaround for this where you can select a controller in the settings and then set it to analogue and then switch back to keyboard and mouse, and it will still be in the analogue settings even without a controller, but I personally can't confirm this 100% works though.)
The arena is a good way to grind out some of the miscellaneous achievements, like specific kills, if you’re cleaning up before moving on to Act 4 or just want to get them done quickly.
For the achievement that requires exploring all areas, I recommend following a guide. There’s a great guide by Xeinok and Ralf in the Steam guides you can check out here. ( It's on the original Dead Islands community guides, so it may be a bit hard to find through Steam itself, but it will come up easily on Google if you just want to find it later on.)
Some achievements can be a bit tricky to get to pop, but none were too much of an issue for me. If you meet the requirements for an achievement and it unlocks in-game but not on Steam, sometimes you just need to give it a minute, load into another area, unlock another achievement, or simply exit to the main menu and load back in.
Other than that, all the achievements in this game are fairly easy.
When I first played Dead Island as a kid, it left a lasting impression. The sunny beaches of Banoi mixed with the chaos of a zombie outbreak were unforgettable, even if I was never able to finish the game as a kid. Returning to it a long time later it felt like reopening a time capsule it's crazy to me how well this game aged. If I never played it before you could easily convince me it's a Modern Title. The graphics are the first thing that struck me obviously last playing on 360 compared to a high end gaming pc is a big difference but the game looks good and runs flawlessly. Combat is where Dead Island truly shines, and it holds up incredibly well. Few games capture the brutality of melee combat like this one, and the crafting system is still satisfying. Modding a bat with a saw or electrifying a machete never gets old, and the thrill of taking down zombies up close hasn’t diminished. Revisiting the story made me appreciate how well we had it as kids. The voice acting at a few times is a little meh but the majority of it is fine. For a game that came out in 2011 Dead Island has aged impressively well. The Definitive Edition breathes new life into it, making it feel modern while retaining everything that made the original special. As someone who left this adventure unfinished as a kid, finally completing it was not only nostalgic but also rewarding. Whether you're a returning fan or new to the series, Dead Island proves that some games are worth revisiting. It’s a thrilling reminder of how much fun a well crafted zombie apocalypse can be. You can pick this game up for literally 2.99 USD on sale.... and it's still 10x better than most modern triple A titles.
