In Wayward, there is a large focus on simulation, exploration, and discovery. There are no classes; there are no levels. Progression of your character depends on individual skill and stat gains by your interactions with items or objects in the world. You are free to play and explore the game in any fashion you wish.
Wayward is a traditional roguelike, meaning it has random environment generation, (optional) permadeath, turn-based gameplay, grid-based movement, complexity, non-modal interactions, resource/inventory management, and more. As such, Wayward is similar to games like UnReal World, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, or Dwarf Fortress.
Some of Wayward's key features include:
- Sandbox survival game mechanics mixed with roguelike gameplay.
- Over 750 items to craft, discover and interact with.
- Deep, multi-faceted skill system with over 30 skills.
- More than 60 creatures and animals to combat, harvest, or tame.
- Iterative game design and community feedback driven with transparent development.
- Online multiplayer with optional PVP mode.
- 35+ hours of content and gameplay before reaching the "end-game" with supplemental content requiring hundreds of hours.
- Infinite procedural generation with five island types featuring unique content for each biome.
- Optional permadeath (hardcore), or respawning (casual) modes.
- More than 40 milestones to unlock that provide unique gameplay modifiers.
- Ability to rollback to previous versions or play the latest development build of the game before public release via Steam.
- Choose from the following game modes: hardcore, casual, challenge, or custom.
- Day and night system with temperature effects.
- Character customization.
- Dynamic reputation and difficulty system.
- Play in turn-based (default), simulated turn-based (multiplayer only), or real-time modes.
- Modding and Steam Workshop support with extensive development tools.
- 18 custom music tracks.

Interface, interface interface. Why does stuff not stack in your inventory, just gives me finger RSI from all the scrolling. Why if i have an axe equipped do i still need to go to my inventory to use it. Only gave it a quick play, but immediately got turned off this by what feels like an interface that was designed to be obtuse.
☑ punch a shark
☑ be haunted by ghost pirates (for no apparent reason??)
☑ UI powerful enough to support a stonks day trading dashboard
☑ $50,000 ARG treasure hunt
Great turn based survival. Exploration/Seafaring, combat, magic, and tons to do
good
Turn based Necesse. Tie into the sharp end and chalk up, its one he110va ride.
So many updates lately can't keep up its fantastic! 10/10
will do a run through and give my thoughts
Pretty good survival game with an interesting UI.
I've had this game for years, but I never got into it because it just throws you in the deep end and the wiki wasn't super helpful for a long time. For some reason, though, it always called me back even though I would usually fumble around and die before I actually got anything done.
The past few days though, on probably my fifth try on learning this game, it all clicked and I started to understand what it's all about, and I've been loving every second of it! This is a roguelike survival game, essentially. I like that it is kind of open ended in playstyle. You can rush progress as fast as possible, or you can hang around on the starting island and be a stone-age caveman trying to survive, and both of those ways of playing are really fun! You can play as some kind of hunter-gatherer nomad who loves to explore or you can build a base and get whole setup to stockpile and prepare gear for a large expedition. The art style is charming and it has my favorite flavor of roguelike punishment, where anything that bad happens to you is a result of your own previous choices. There's never been a death where it felt like I was cheated. You die and learn lessons for your next character. Didn't bring enough or the proper gear for a new island and you die of dehydration? Remember to stock your boat with more water and food next time. Starved to death in your base because a strong predator set up camp right outside of your front door and you will 100% die if you fight it? Remember to build a secondary escape route next time. Your weapon broke in the middle of a right? remember to repair or reinforce your equipment before you need it next time.
I absolutely love this game so much and I think I'm going to stay addicted to it for a long time now. I totally recommend this diamond.
But again, the game does not hold your hand. Use the wiki, and use video tutorials for the beginning until you get the hang of it. Use items you don't need right now to craft items that you haven't before because new crafting recipes show up when you have the items needed to craft them. The game has so much more progression than it shows you at the start. For example, you don't get the recipe for a boat until you've made an oar and a rope, even though you don't have a reason to build an oar when you don't know where to get a boat. Honestly just build a chest and throw at least one of everything you find and can craft into it. It's confusing at first but the whole system starts to make sense when you get that hang of it, I promise!
Give this game a try for real <3
Somewhat fun and casual. Lacks depth, gets redundant and beating it is almost impossible without reading a guide. Despite this I would play it again.
AMAZING
FUN.
Very addictive. I've sunk a lot of hours into this game. If you like survival, exploration, and base-building, then you'll likely enjoy this game.
It's a looter/builder. It's not a AAA game, but if you would like to build up a skill in order to craft a piece of gear using the perfect items, it might be for you. Imagine having a bit more control on rolling magic properties in Diablo, but without having to complete fetch quests or design a build for the next area. The devs are working on improving the game. If you need AAA graphics, constant updates and an adrenaline pumping combat system, this game is not going to deliver. But this game delivers a solid mechanic of using game knowledge to progress stats and make gear without a progression system that raids your base or asks you to explore more than you want.
It's ok. I got a handful of hours out of it. It's cheap, so I don't mind that I wasn't blown away.
Nothing is really explained to you, you're supposed to read cryptic journal messages and find notes on mobs and stuff to figure things out and progress, which is fine, but it really wasn't to my tastes.
