100% recommend, you get your moneys worth and honestly there's so much build variety it's amazing
I am amazed by this game. So many Qol-features that should be a stable in any and all games of this genre. It feels just so good to play this game and whack the monsters.
diablo 3 but good
One of the best ARPGs once you get past the looks.
Honestly, this game is highly comparable to other ARPG's like Grim Dawn, all the Diablo's (except D4, that was horrid), Torchlight 1-2 and Last Epoch. 4 classes, tons of loot, skills, abilities, talent points, quests, maps and highly addicting. Immersive endgame replayability too! Nowhere near as complex as Path of Exile, don't expect that here but does provide a satisfying challenge.
Yes, I will say it, Chronicon is better than Diablo 4. It's just facts!
This game knows how to reward progression, loot, questing, and satisfying combat that AAA action RPG games can't replicate today.
Fun Diablo-style game.
I read the reviews and thought to myself surely these people can’t really think this is one of the best arpgs ever. Well that was before I played the game. I can absolutely agree to that sentiment now. Do yourself a favor and beat the campaign, explore the endgame and dabble in crafting. You’ll see exactly why I feel the way I do.
You know what? I haven't got the friggin foggiest idea on how I ended up with 240 hours of play time on a 2D pixel graphics hack n slash... That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
PS. Yeah I have way more time in this than D3. Just saying.
number go up
It's a good game with large skill-trees and a lot of cool gear
Fun game
This game is like a pixel version of Diablo. Lots of fun.
staple arpg that doesn't waste time, has plenty of qol as well. blow up screens of mobs, loot gear.
It's fine, I imagine it would be great for those on a budget or without a decent PC who are itching for an ARPG. Lots of skill trees, much fun.
good
Chronicon: the loot of Diablo with the mix & match skill system/trees of Grim Dawn, with the pixel art of your favorite pixel art games. This is a DIAMOND in the rough of ARPGs.
Pros:
+ four ENTIRE skill trees per character you can mix/match at will, with skills within those skills you can also mix/match
+ an enormous amount of build-crafting through skills, items, and your mastery skill tree
+ a skill mastery tree that doubles as an EXTRA six skill trees with skills of their own
+ a beefy endgame that feels much like Division 2
+ a comfy, simple soundtrack
+ varied classes each with their own unique abilities
+ the DLC expands on endgame skill trees
+ takes the best part of Diablo 4 but makes it not a nightmare
+ being able to infuse old gear to keep it fresh/upgrade rolls to make them extremely powerful leads to attachment to gear/builds
+ free skill/mastery respec at any time
Cons:
- enchanting/upgrading gear isn't explained super well
20/10: this is the best ARPG I've played this side of Grim Dawn and you should 100% play it.
I played this game since 2020, and I come back to it from time to time when I want to loot and kill for a short period of time.
But overall, when you finish the campaign, the gameplay is pretty boring, and each upgrade is very hard to get.
Still a lot of fun tho
I can't recall ever playing an ARPG before playing this game, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this game, but I'm happy to report that I had a great time (in singleplayer at least), despite finding the game a bit hard to learn at first and finding the game became far too easy towards the end.
The story obviously wasn't the focus for this game, and there really wasn't a lot of story content in general, although I suspect that's likely the case for most games in this genre. What story did exist did have a neat premise though, and I did generally enjoy it. The voiced lines for each boss were a cool touch as well.
By contrast, the gameplay has a lot to offer, and it was quite a bit of fun. It was fairly hard to learn initially, as there's a lot of different UI that gets thrown at you, and isn't explained very well, but I eventually figured out the important pieces and slowly starting putting more things together as I played more. There's 4 different classes to play, each with multiple different skill trees with tons of different skills that you use to tear through massive hordes of enemies. There's also lots of gear to collect, which give you really cool perks and bonuses, especially the more rare items, which can completely change your entire build. There are some neat mechanics and settings that make managing loot easier as well, although it's still a pain at times, and you have to search them out, as the game doesn't really tell you about them. I had a great time slowly putting together my speedy poison ranger!
Unfortunately, I seemed to grow in power a bit too fast, as I noticed the game became easy fairly quickly. I did bump up the difficulty each time, which helped a lot, but after a while I still found that I was melting every horde of enemies and terrifying boss I fought, and eventually reached the highest difficulty while still progressing through the game with ease. The very end of the game did have some new neat mechanics to create a much harder challenge and unlock even stronger perks and gear, but by that point I was so tired of grinding through enemies that I couldn't bring myself to keep going. The majority of my experience was pretty good though, and I still had a lot of fun crafting my character and mowing down enemies.
I do need to mention however that the local multiplayer implementation could have been a lot better. I initially tried playing this game with a couple of friends, but we found it pretty difficult. The UI was confusing enough for one person, and to have three different complex inventory screens all on one monitor was just far too much. Having to wait for friends while they struggle to even see their inventories was rough, and this really dragged down the pace of the game. This was especially bad because most loot is class specific and the game doesn't tell you how to use the loot functionality which picks up only items from your class (which I only figured out later), so we spent ages sorting out garbage and trading items around. It's also really unfortunate that when you get too far away from one another, you simply walk off the screen, with no indicators of where you are (other than the map, which will cover the entire screen when opened). This game would probably have been fantastic with online multiplayer, but there was just too much going on on one screen for local multiplayer to be an enjoyable experience.
The game looks nice, with a charming pixelated art style, and ran great, which is excellent given the number of visual effects that can be on the screen at one time. I didn't encounter any bugs that I can recall.
TL;DR This is a fun ARPG, with some tons of different options for crafting different characters, loads of neat loot which can drastically affect your build, some really fun combat, and excellent stability. Despite the game being a bit daunting to learn due to the dense and poorly explained UI, the game feeling fairly easy towards the end, a lackluster story, and a pretty poor local multiplayer implementation, I'd still recommend the game for anyone who enjoys ARPGs and is looking for a fun singleplayer experience.
Extremely impressive indie action rpg. Gameplay is fun with tight controls, cool skills, lots of loot, and extensive character development. Well priced and worth your time if you don't mind the graphics.
Surprisingly addicting
A fun 2d ARPG.
The talent system/items for each class is super fun, I spend a lot of time outside the game thinking about how to perfect my build with diferent characters.
The end game is quite absurd though, your power level goes to 11 and it pretty much becomes how fast you can oneshot the whole screen, infinite scaling means that you will go like this for a while until the enemies now are the ones that oneshot you, then you change/perfect your build and continue causing mayhem until you hit a wall again.
Fun co-op arpg.
Hope they make a new one with better graphics on a better engine.
This is probably pushing the limits of the game maker engine.
7/10
It was good for its time
