ADventure Lib

ADventure Lib is a quirky concept that was almost, but not quite, turned into a workable adventure game. The fundamental concept is that nouns, various objects, are jumbled up, and then slotted into a basic adventure game. For example, instead of saving the "princess" from the "dragon" with a "sword", you have to save the "broom" from the "toilet" with a "kitten". With that simple but unusual gimmick out of the way, it's an incredibly shallow and uninteresting game.

One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience.

Unfortunately this there isn't much game content at all, and what gameplay there is is very average. And that's a problem in itself... The game is very very short (only 4 screens) and can be finished in 15 minutes. I'm not advocating anyone should do this, it wouldn't be right, but it's possible to buy the game, finish and refund in less than the 2 hour refund window on Steam. That aside, developers have at least some responsibility to provide enough content to make a game last more than 2 hours if they're serious about providing something of value to gamers. There's less content here than free game demos have.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The game features simple, fairly basic 2D visuals, and while some effort went into them, and they don't look bad exactly, they don't look great, either. In the 3D era of gaming, that kicked off in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D GPUs like the S3 Virge and ATI Rage, phoning in the graphics like this isn't going to win any awards or appeal to enthusiast PC gamers.

The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2024 (and this was released not so far back in 2015), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

ADventure Lib didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for getting past the first puzzle, trivial to get, but less than 23 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

So, should you buy this game?

ADventure Lib is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

It's just an extremely short point and click adventure game with all the objects scrambled at the start. So basically it's a glorified mad lib that you don't even get to fill in yourself. While the first playthrough (which will take you around ten minutes) can be mildly fun if you like "lol so random" type humor, every subsequent playthrough just...isn't. Scrambling the stuff really doesn't do anything for the replay value. If it had multiple short scenarios you might get dropped in it might be different but instead its the same very simple ten minute point and click with four small areas each time. And honestly fighting a fire breathing kitten with a potato to save the robot isn't that much different from fighting a fire breathing peasant with a toilet to save the rope or whatever. If this game were free it might be worth a short spin but for $1.99 it's just a ripoff.

If you buy a two dollar game inspired by Mad Libs, then get upset when it basically ends up being a short game of Mad Libs, then, uh... I don't know what to tell you, buddy. That's kind of on you.

i dont really wanna recommend or not recommend this game. Its weird, but idk, its just meh. buy it or dont, youre not missing out on anything. Easy achievements though for sure.

ADVenture Lib is a MASH style lib game where you play a story that may or may not make much sense but it'll try very very very hard to be funny and fail. The game doesn't take itself seriously but your wallet will after you waste your money on it. It's short and the achievements are all easy to obtain (~1hr). My takeaway:

Well, when I think about Adventure Lib, I always remember AdLib, which is one of the oldest sound cards. It was so simple and incompetent, such as ADventure Lib. The game is just a linear point&click. When you start the game, names of the all entities in the game are being scrambled randomly. This is the only novelty of the game. The plot is extremely simple. Replay value is zero. Sounds are below par. Hopefully I've bought it in a bundle and it drops cards. If you want the cards, waste your money, but don't waste your time by playing it.

5-7 minutes of content if you know where to go and what to do. I was going to give this game a try for some time but expected much more in terms of content. At least an hour of story would be good. Of course it's cheap but still.

Well. It is very creative. I can say it is easy to beat. The voicing is a little awkward, as it has a sort of long pause between everything, and well. You will see. Get it if you dare. Maybe a fire-breathing potato will end your kitten's last life with butter and a toilet in the sewer with Elizabeth.

Got this during the big summer sale and its good for a few laughs from both children and adults alike. Its a very short game so the replayability is a big thing. Pretty much its a simple time killer. It took me just about a half hour to get through, I would say 50 cents well spent. On a side note the main character kinda sounds like Fred Savage lol, talk about throwback :)

I picked this game up for $0.54 CAD during the Summer Sale. The humour is entertaining enough that it'll keep you giggling for at least 15 minutes, which is really all it takes to play through the game. Considering how dirt-cheap the game was, it's a definite "recommend". I'll probry come back to this one every now and again when I want something silly to show friends.

Steam Workshop support is a nice bonus.

Well, this was a silly game. It basically randomizes items and mixes them up, so instead of a knight, you might be a chicken or butter or what have you. Your spear might actually be other random items. The puzzles are as simple as they get and the whole game wont take but 10 minutes or so to finish for most people. You can play over and over if you like with randomized items, but other than that, there really isn't a point to playing the game again. I think all told, I would probably give this one a 3 or 4 out of 10. Easy achievements if you care to get them all. I walked past an item that would have given me the two I am missing and I really cant be bothered to go back and grab them, lol. Meh.

"Pretty messedup adventure"

For people that like very strange senseless things, insane conversations, bizarre AND/OR EXTREMLY SHORT game(play-s) or Achievement yes for the REST NO(T)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, so MOST PLAYERS DONT BUY/ WASTE YOUR MONEY all other try to to enjoy. I am so confused and i hate and love it same time. Care how much money you use/ waste for it. 50 % is all i can give.

this game is too short for me. It's funny but too short. I play until game end less than 40 mins
and It'll be fun for first time play or player was the one who enjoying new shaffle character every time in one and only story.

for me it's okay game. me and my bf like it but this worth money? I could say...nahhh NO for me.
If this game is longer would be good (about 2 hour or more) and I'll say YES for sure.

Quirky parody/spoof of RPG point and click adventures that takes about as long as a lunch break to play. Not for everyone, definitely not for everyone. But if one likes MADLibs and that type of absurd humor then this game will provide hours of amusement. NOTE: In no way should this game be taken seriously.

Currently not worth buying. It took 15 minutes to beat, and the randomized objects aren't enough reason to replay it. They say they're going to add a longer story and you'll be able to add your own to the steam workshop. I'll try it again when they add this and review it again. This should've been released as a demo.

Well, well, well. ADventure Lib.
With a Campaign Editor on the way and an object editor already in place,
this is a very entertaining and cheap experience you can come back to if
you need to kill some time or want to just screw around with your own object ideas.
Admittedly, yes, I'm easily entertained, but still. I like it,
that's why I can recommend it easily.

The premise alone makes a sufficient selling point for this game. Every time you play through the story, important objects are completely randomised, making for completely absurd and hilarious combinations. Just look at the player-uploaded screenshots in the community hub, and you'll see what I mean.
The voice acting may be annoying for some, but it is easily mutable. The story is very short, but very replayable, and the developer has promised that another story is on the way.
It can get tricky to keep track of what does what, but fortunately there's a "look at" button which gives you a hint as to what to do. And despite the various possible combinations, there is a limited number of objects in the library. But hey, that's what the workshop is for.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to sit up at the kitten to eat my princesses.

A fun little game, although the voices for the mixed up words get incredibly annoying very quickly. Takes about 3 minutes to play through once you've figured it out. Not much replay value except for getting the achievements. For less than $2, you get what you're paying for. I'd recommend it if there was more to it, but as it stands, not quite worth it.

Look guys, this is a linear game with literally 4 screens, no animations, and shitty voiceovers.
Just because you jumble the pieces around each playthrough doesn't make the 10 minutes it takes to complete it any more fun or "humorous". Unless you're a person who considers replacing a dragon with a butter knife the pinnacle of hilarity.
