its like ghosts and goblins but with more item variety. hooyeah! how have I not given this the thumbs up? its good fun with secrets, platforming, and action galore
Personally ... I don't like this game.
Further more, the controls are horrible IMO.
Its a boring game, the graphics are okay but there isn't anything that compels me to keep playing. The bosses and mini bosses simply have a lot of hp with boring mechanics and the game sounds are dull and lifeless.
Couldn't play the game. Character stuck running to the left, even with the keyboard unplugged. Input config menu is shoddy and confusing, and apparently bugged as well.
Cast of the Seven Godsends - Redux is 2D run'n'gun similar to Contra and Ghosts 'n Goblins. You have access to a variety of armour and upgrades throughout the game, with varying levels of diffuculty. Accidently Reviewed
Pros:
-Retro look and feel of the game pays off really well, giving a feeling of nostalgia when thinking back of all the time I spent playing old arcade games
-Different armour and weapon systems make the game interesting and innovative, keeping a feeling of freshness to each playthrough
-It has Steam Achievements and trading cards
-Music is good, and very reminiscent of the older 90's arcade games, adding to the retro atmosphere of the game
Cons:
-In the beginning it's pretty frustrating, as nothing is explained on how it works or anything like that, so it's up to you to fail and try again until you grasp what the game is about and has to offer
If you enjoyed classic run'n'gun games from the 80-90's arcade-era, give this a go.

Movement of your character is clunky and feels stiff. This is the main reason I can't enjoy the game. I also find there are too many bullet sponge enemies in cramped spaces and missing a satisfying chunky sound when I kill them like in older retro games. The potential is there but the weird physics and stiff controls make this game not recommendable.
Good:
Fun. A good mix of things I recognize mixed with new material. I enjoyed it once I got used to it (see bad).
Just the right amount of challenge. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once I figured out how it works it was all smooth sailing and I completed the game quickly (including black armor).
Really cool armor effects. Different combinations of armors and weapons give different results, with tons of variety.
Lots of secrets to find. This game has great replay value if you want to see everything. Plenty of "ah ha" moments as I figure things out.
Bad:
Noticeable input lag. Yes, set game resolution to my monitors native resolution, no prerendered frames or vsync, etc. I play tons of twitchy games under the same setup and this one lags. If you're the type of person who notices it, this game will take some adjusting to.
Armor/weapon combos are not very well balanced. Some are nearly useless, some completely overpowered to the point of trivializing the game.
Some touchy platforms. For example the turning wheel platforms on stage 2, sometimes I jump on the platforms and all is well, sometimes I pass right through the exact same platform that worked last time.
Conclusion:
This game has some rough edges but lots of style and fun gameplay. It's worth the asking price and I don't regret this one. I'll follow this developer and see if their future releases improve on it.
If you liked Ghosts 'n Goblins, Cast of the Seven Godsends is a must buy. Seriously, no need to say much more, if you're a fan of GnG, buy this game, it's that simple, you won't regret it as it can be extremely hard, has an awesome soundtrack, good graphics, and tight controls. If you've never played the GnG games, then I still recommend you try this game, just know that its a retro arcade shooter/platformer, also similar gameplay to Megaman, Metal Slug, and Contra.
The devs are awesome as well as they actually listened to me and implemented an improvement for controllers!
Apart from the nostalgic graphics and gameplay, this game has little to offer in the way of entertainment. There is no explanation in how things work, some levels can feel like jumpquests more than anything, and the quality is ridiculously low. You can tell that someone did not put very much time into this game at all.
Should you buy it? Not unless it is on sale.
There are better ways to have nostalgia, and better games to spend your money on.
Honestly, At first glance, I thought that this game was some kind of low quality Ghost 'n Goblins clone that tried to cash in on nostalgia, but I was wrong.
Why is this game fun?
Because of its simple Get rewarded if you don't fail loop. It also manage to keeps itself fresh until the end with varying enemies and challenges. Each levels has its own theme and brings in something new.As soon as you start the game you'll feel at home with the premise and you'll be sent directly into the fray.
The armor/life system is pretty straight forward and addicting; If you get damaged while wearing an armor you lose it. If you get damaged while not wearing any armor you die. If you manage to find an armor pick-up without losing your armor it'll turn into an elemental suit.
Multiple Weapons (Dagger/Sword/Maul/Hammer/Chakram)
Each weapons work very differently (Range/Damage/Speed/Behavior)
Multiple Suits (Earth, Ice, Fire, Lightning, Plague, Wind & a Secret Armor)
Each suits of armor have their own strength/weakness. The whole system makes you feel like you're playing completely different characters.
You know what the best thing is?Every weapon/armor combination comes with its own attack and special ability]. Summon a massive eagle to wipe your foes, Spawn a giant mushroom under the boss, clone yourself or maybe you'd just like to fly around.
TLDR
This game is an awesome platformer that pays homage to the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise with its own twist. I had a blast. 5/5I really like this game, but is has moments of controler snapping rage just loike Super GnG. To the point where I am so defeated, I have to turn it off....perhaps I just suck.....
Yeah, this is definitely one of those games that went un-noticed until recently. It's like Ghouls 'n Ghosts, and it's absolutely amazing! The soundtrack is really good, especially in the later levels. To fully appreciate the game, play it on Normal first, then go to Hard, then if you're brave enough, Retro.
Like Ghouls 'n Ghosts, there are favorable weapons, then there are weapons you'd consider absolute trash. In the case of Cast of the Seven Godsends, the best weapon(s) have better hitboxes as well as higher damage. When I was routing a speedrun I came across this very useful information that just might help you out: No matter what weapon you have, a god power will make it infinitely better. The Mace's arc is so bad, but with the Wind Armor's help it has a nicer angle that can help defeat those shielded enemies.
All this to say, Caste of the Seven Godsend is incredibly diverse. There are so many different potential playstyles, whether you favor certain god armors over others, or certain weapons over others. It very much rewards the player can mash attack the quickest, so keep that in mind. Either way, the game's fantastic, and it's got soooo much spirit.
The game looks ok, game mechanics are good and interesting. It's GnG Plus. Warning: Retro style game. Map design is punishing but not impossible.
Many users are bashing it for the wrong reasons or have wrong expectation.
Yes it is a Ghost and Goblins like game (which was mega hard - and I have finished contra multiple times without dying.. But I havent finished GnG). It is not a copy.. but inspired by GnG which I like.
Controls need to be tweaked a bit more to make it perfect.
Is it worth the full asking price? Hmm.. Maybe not yet.
Summary:
Not as bad as the other negatives have posted. But not as great as I have hoped as of yet (controls not as smooth). But overall an ok game.
** Issues with my wireless gamepad.. But works very well on my wired gamepad. (see discussion with developer)

The game looks ok, game mechanics are good and interesting. But the control feel needs alot of work. I am experiencing input lag on my gamepad. But since this is a action game.. Thats a major no no. Since steam doesnt have a neutral recommendation. I have to vote No. I will be playing it more. If it fixes the input issue. I will switch this to YES.
This game came out of nowhere and was a blast! Really challenging but well balanced, great variety of enemies, weapons, and stages, fast paced action and really cool power-up system that dramatically changes the way you play. If you are a fan of Ghost and Goblins type of games, you will sure love Cast of the Seven Godsends.
This was a blast I have been craving a new G&G like game and this has plenty of Replayablity first there a Six Armors for you to use and one Special One which I STILL haven't found it but I'll keep playing this to find it. also The Levels are well designed and fun to go through but some of the foreground objects do get in the way. the Continue System is a bit unneed but is fair. The Artstyle is a bit off in gameplay but the designs of all the Characters and monsters are great. I honestly Fully recommend this game to any G&G fan!
When I initially read the reviews of, "This is the new Ghosts n Goblins." I sighed and thought, oh suuuuuuuuuuuuure. But to my pleasent surprise, it was. Like said before me, quite a bit in this game is obviously inspried by the Ghosts n Goblins/Ghouls n Ghosts series. Even with the lame weapons (axe).
The magic feature of the Seven God/Dieties in-game is pretty cool and that power-up brought back flashbacks of Ghouls n Ghosts.
If you like old school difficult, but fair in it's execution. Check this out. If it's on sale, it's a must buy.
My only complaint is the lack of save feature; which is minor, but for many modern players, it's a major downside.
I suppose another downside for those interested it the lack of Trading Cards. I hope this gets updated so trading cards are added.
Man this game is tight! Love it! And then they made it very affordable from the start! They kept it real and kept it old school. Love the bosses! Thats something i always look for. Gotta have cool bosses! All i wanna see now is some DLC's to help keep this party going. But dont rush those DLC's cuz i want ya'll to do it right like you did the main game! Ok you Dev's get back to work and make us proud! So far everything is golden! Haha :D
This game is indeed, a god send, just like in the title of the game. This game fills a void long awaiting a game like this. I'm speaking of the wonderful similarities between this game and the amazing old SNES version of Ghosts and Goblins. This game definitely fills that void that has been aching for a game that is wonderful to play and yet, astoundingly difficult in its platforming nature. It's a frenzy of button pushing and jumping like a maniac throughout this game and it's wonderful! A definite MUST BUY if you have the seven dollars to spend! Seven dollars, that's amazing if you ask me. The game is of good length and as I said the difficulty is pretty damn good too. The graphics and gameplay are top notch as well as the controls for keyboard OR gamepad. Like I mentioned before, if you loved Ghosts and Goblins, you're going to LOVE this game! It even borrows from the Ghosts and Goblins game staples like armor equips that get increasingly more amazing as you upgrade. Weapon diversity that is pretty damn good as well!

In all honesty my previous review was probably a bit harsh. The developers did take note and quickly sorted out the games problems (which makes them awesome in my book).
The game seems to have been heavily inspired by the classic Ghost 'n' Goblins. It looks and plays just like the arcade game from way back when, but feels much more slick and modern.
I haven't finished the game yet but I'm having a great time with it so far.
The visuals are pretty (although sometimes enemies blend with the scenario and it becomes a bit difficult to notice them), the music is good and about level design, well the platforming can be a little cruel sometimes but I think that's the objective. So even now that I'm stuck at world 2 I'm not frustrated since missing the jumps is my fault (the controls are simple and very responsive). I have ignored the story so far but I don't think I'm losing anything groundbreaking.
The only thing that really annoys me is the spawn pattern of a few monsters, for some reason they will spawn on top of your character or of other monsters turning it really difficult to react in time. Oh and the HUD covers a few parts of the scenario sometimes so if you don't pay attention you may fall into pits that are hidden by your status bar.
But if you can overcome those small flaws this game really is a lot of fun. Extra points for the nostalgia attack and the awesome armors and spells ;)
