Actual review: the game consists of everything you see in trailer. and nothing else. All store description is blatant lie.
Controller support is flat-out lie - it's twin-stick shooter and right stick controls mouse...

Seriously, english is not my tongue too, but this dev isn't even ashamed of his awful language skills - doesn't even bother to fix words that browser underlines as broken. And it took them 10 days to make a single enemy to do not instantly attack the player the second it spawns (have no idea what it is).


The game itself is bunch of Unity assets slapped together for a quick buck.
You can make the game like this in a week even if you don't know what Unity is. Yeah, by slapping some templates together.

This game is really bad. They have a good base to start but as they build, its getting terrable. It used to be a one hit kill on a lot of monsters. but now it takes 2- 3 shots to kill them. and then monsters will comepletely spawn out of nowhere just to drain your health. the horses click - clacking will make you go nuts after 4 seconds, and I hate it when the horse TALKS! In the end. Save your change for a GOOD game. Because you wont find it here.

I honestly like this game very much, only I'd like to see some improvements. For example, I think it's cool to get like Ammo Box drops that fills up your ammo, Co-op or Multiplayer would be awesome too , an arrow so you can see where the guy's at and something like a shop or upgrades (for the coins). But I really really do like this game, because it's challenging and fun too play. I'm liking this so far :)

Edit 8/18: So I had another look at their forum. I think it speaks for themselves. It's as if they said you wanna see censorship? HERE HAVE SOME CENSORSHIP and then threw all the old critical threads in a locked subforum (of course so many more appeared they couldn't very well remove them all). Alternately, they saw that another indie dev was abusing their community more cleverly and decided this was a ****ing competition.

Edit: 8/21. Said indie dev started some laughable antics on the same day and one of them even has a derpy horse avatar on Twitter. Coincidence? I think not.

Ah, more indie dev abuse.

Blatant theft from another game? Check.
Banning/censoring criticism? Check.
Dishonest marketing practices? Check.
Dishonest advertisement practices? Check.
Disregarding feedback in an Early Access game? Check.
Very little in the way of an actual game? Check.

While this company will never draw the sheer ire from me that Derpest Dungeon has as their practices are transparent and not fooling anyone whereas the Red Hook team is a bit more clever I did see enough of the same **** from them I have from Red Hook I bought this purely so I could negative review it.

Don't let exploitive developers ruin Early Access or the indie gaming scene for everyone! Beat this down everywhere you see it!

For a purchase price of £0.79 this game is really good value. there have been some shady dealings from the developer though and I only found my way to this title from Jim Sterling

So, aside from the controversy. What features does this game offer that deserve your attention and the existance of being on early access? Short answer: None.
Long Answer:
Bad level design. It seems just to have enemies and items peppered throughout these maps.

Horrible controls. Even from at a stability standpoint it's fucked. Characters jitter when moving and you get knocked back when you fire your weapon, often getting knocked into more enemies. KB&M doesn't work (except in menus because logic, so you will probably die not realizing this when you are given just enough control to boot into a level) unless you unplug any controller you have plugged into your comptuer.

Awful sound bytes. Stock sound and looped music with some really awful ear-sodomy in between (you have to hear it to believe it, THIS COSTS MONEY)

So, is this game worth your time?
Short answer: NOPE
Long answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE

Developer sets the base price at $1. But when he puts the game on sale, he raises the price so the reduced price ends up being $1 anyway. And then he bans people on the game's forums when people point out his shady business practices.

Paid a dollar for a downvote. Works for me.

Bought this for $0.99 during a flash sale and after spending a few minutes with it, I feel like I still overpaid. At present, there is very little enjoyment to found with Brutal Force. Level design is rather bland, though the character models look pretty decent. Background music is nothing more than the same few notes looped endlessly and that gets boring extremely quickly. My biggest complaint is the abysmal controls, particularly when using a gamepad, which is my preferred way to play twin-stick shooters. Aside from the nonsensical keybinding menu at the setup screen prior to startup, there are no explanations of how the controls work; you pretty much have to figure it out through trial and error. My worst issue with the gamepad control is that the sensitivity for the right thumbstick, used for aiming, is automatically at the maximum threshold if not exceeding it; this causes the crosshairs to flit across the screen at high speeds with barely a touch, making it nigh impossible to aim where you want, and there is no option to adjust this that I could find.

Take all this with a grain of salt as it is still in early access, but until all the issues plaguing the game thus far are resolved, your money is better spent elsewhere. This game isn't worth paying its current sale price of $3.24, let alone the outrageous full price of $12.99.

Additional note: I just read over Glumpfner's review/warning concerning the shady pricing method that is being implemented during a sale, and the consequences of calling the developer out on it. Deleting threads and banning users? Definitely fishy. Originally, I would have suggested waiting until the game has been updated and its issues fixed, but if the developer is going to be pulling underhanded tactics like this and then silencing any who speak out against it, I find it hard to recommend supporting this game at all. Caveat emptor, fellow gamers.

Well I wanted to leave a positive feedback, but once the developer started deleting threads and banned users from the forum just because they pointed out his misleading price adjustments, I decided to share this in the review section.

In short, the developer puts his game on sale for 75%, but then after the sale starts he increased the price from $0.99 to $12.99.
Before the sale, the base price was $4.99 through out July. Severl days before the sale, he even lowered the price to $0.99.
Then he went on a weekly sale for 75% off, but upped the base price to $12.99, so the game costs $3.24 instead of $0.99. This lets many honest customers believe they are getting a game at 75% off, while in fact they are paying more than 3 times more.
Once the weekly sale was over, he lowered the price back to $0.99.
This is totally misleading and in several countries an illegal marketing strategy.

I noticed several people were complaining in the forum about this misleading sale, but each thread ended up being deleted and every user who points this out is being banned in the forum.
The developer uses strict censorship on his steam forum. Any critical comment towards the game itself or the devlopers sales strategies are being deleted. Only positive comments are being kept.

The developer has also given away 100 Free Steam keys on his Facebook page, asking people to please leave a positive feedback here on Steam, in return for the free steam keys.

I opened a thread and told the developer I am happy to support this game, since I like it and I think with $3.24, or even $4.99 the game is still undervalued. I told him he doesn't need to use these dodgy marketing strategies just to get sales, his game is good value for $5.
Result -> thread deleted, permanent banned.

Negative discussions "moved or deleted", not much content, and a cryptic keybind interface required to get most gamepads to work well (mouse disabled while gamepad is plugged in). Can't recommend it at this time. If developers spend less time deleting negative discussions and more time reading them and working on things, this game has a lot of potential and could end up being pretty fun.

This is a fun little shooter which I can believe will get better as it becomes more developed.

The only drawback I had with it was the lack of direction and guide/controls and the controller support which was so odd to me at first in terms of controlling the aim for the character but its a neat little game that I am interested to see more!

Decent for what it is. Controller support sucks with aiming. Better stick to mouse. Bit repetitive and as far as I can see there's no purpose of collecting coins, there are no upgrades or insenstive to play more than once round as there are no bosses or waves and a lack of weapons. Also reptitive enemies.

My God! I felt like Iam playing a cheap flash remake of the steam game NUCLEAR THRONE. If you have played it, you know what I am talking about. Don't buy the game as it is now. Really. Permadeath and enemies showering bullets from all sides don't make a game Nuclear Throne or Binding of Isaac! It needs serious work man.

Play the new steam game RELIC HUNTERS ZERO... Similar to this... Better (far better) than this.... has local co-op.... is FREE TO PLAY... :)

And yes, deleting negative comments is a real bad thing, Mr. Developer.

Honestly, it's a very bare-bone game, there's about 10 mins worth of content (and I'm being generous here).

- Very repetitive level graphics, and boring level design, the character design for both the main character and enemies is actually nice tho.
- Ok title music, in-game its literally a 10 second loop over and over.
- Only 3 Weapons, with a very annoying ammo system that makes it very unrewarding to play.
- Completely broken gamepad support (At the time of this review at least), game works fine with keyboard + mouse, but you need to unplug your gamepad/take the battery out (if wireless) if you want to actually play because the game opts out of the key+mouse if it detects pad.

That being said, it's an early access game, so it should have more content and the bugs should be ironed out as long as the dev delivers what he promised, but at the moment i have a hard time recommending this game since there's not much at all to do.

After playing for about 3,5 minutes you've already seen all that the game has to offer and it's not much, nor is it any good.
