its honestly just a game to play when you want a somewhat vanilla deathmatch experiance. its pretty much a dead game with most servers being empty or only 3 players on a server. and it seems like every server i join has some guy putting spawn mines everywhere. its rely only good for hl1 stuff in gmod
muito bom sim
fun
Half-Life. Yeah no its just Half-Life with deathmatch.

📜 Overview
Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve and released in 2005 as part of the Half-Life 2 package. The game is a remaster of the original Half-Life: Deathmatch, upgraded with the Source engine, bringing enhanced graphics, physics, and updated multiplayer features. Players engage in fast-paced combat, battling against each other in various arenas, using iconic weapons from the Half-Life series. The Source engine's physics and enhanced graphical fidelity provide a fresh experience for fans of the original game.
🌟 Pros
✅ Improved Graphics & Physics – The Source engine gives Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source enhanced visuals, more realistic lighting, and physics-based gameplay that impacts combat.
✅ Classic Arena Combat – The game retains the fast-paced, arcade-style deathmatch combat that made the original Half-Life: Deathmatch a fan favorite.
✅ Varied Weapons – A diverse arsenal of weapons, including the crowbar, pistols, and assault rifles, offers players multiple playstyles.
✅ Dynamic Environments – The new physics engine allows for environmental interaction, such as using exploding barrels for strategic advantage.
✅ Active Community – While not as large as the main Half-Life 2 multiplayer mode, the community remains dedicated, with custom maps and mod support available.
⚠️ Cons
❌ Limited New Content – While the graphics and physics are updated, the gameplay itself is largely unchanged from the original Deathmatch experience.
❌ Player Base Diminishing – As time has passed, the player base has significantly shrunk, making it more difficult to find matches on official servers.
❌ Lack of Depth – Unlike Half-Life 2's single-player experience, Deathmatch: Source feels more like a traditional arena shooter, which may lack the narrative richness some players expect from the series.
❌ Outdated Modes – The focus on deathmatch can feel limited for those who enjoy more varied multiplayer experiences.
💬 Player Sentiment
Positive Reviews: Fans of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 appreciate the enhanced visuals and the fast-paced nature of the gameplay. The physics engine and the classic combat feel bring nostalgia to players who enjoyed the original.
Negative Reviews: Criticisms focus on the game's lack of new content, the reduced player base, and some players feeling that the experience is too similar to its predecessor.
🎯 Target Audience
Half-Life fans who enjoy classic arena-style multiplayer combat.
Players who are fans of the Half-Life series and enjoy the updated visuals and Source engine physics.
Gamers seeking a nostalgic, fast-paced deathmatch experience.

🎯 Final Verdict
Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source is a solid update to the original Half-Life: Deathmatch, offering better graphics and physics, but it ultimately remains a classic arena shooter at its core. While it retains much of the charm of the original, the lack of significant new content and the shrinking player base make it a title best suited for nostalgic fans or those who enjoy the Half-Life multiplayer experience.
pretty damn good deathmatch game
Peak. Best valve title ever produced. They have made nothing better than Half-Life Deathmatch: Source
What can i say about his garbage is worst like is port of source i recommend to play the original multiplayer and not this shit

Just ok, fun as the original.
The maps are glitchy physics are bad and generally buggy

...
WAIT WHAT IS THIS GAME...?
its good but too overpowered wepons
damn it gorgon freemen of half games!
Graphics: low/potato 3 out of 10
Gameplay is very fun 9.5 out of ten
Controls take time to get used to, but not bad 9.2 out of 10
*NOTE* I also LOVE how devs don't shove in-game purchases down your throat. Good job, Valve.
Rating: 7/10
Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve. It is a remake of the classic Half-Life deathmatch mode, utilizing the Source engine. The game combines the fast-paced action of traditional deathmatch with updated graphics and more fluid movement mechanics. While it successfully brings new life to the original concept, some mechanical issues and a niche player base prevent it from being as popular as its predecessors.
What Works Well?
🎮 Classic Deathmatch Gameplay
The core of Half-Life: Deathmatch is its tight, fast-paced combat. It stays true to the original deathmatch mode, offering classic weapons, high-speed action, and simple, enjoyable mechanics. The formula remains as fun today as it was when first introduced.
🌆 Updated Graphics with Source Engine
The move to the Source engine has significantly improved the visuals compared to the original. The lighting, textures, and models are much sharper, breathing new life into the iconic Half-Life universe. The environments feel more immersive, and physics interactions are more dynamic.
🔫 Familiar Weapon Set
Players have access to a variety of classic weapons from the Half-Life series, including the crowbar, shotgun, and crossbow, all of which perform as expected. Each weapon has its own strategic value, and they all function well within the confines of the deathmatch setting.
🛠️ Modding Support and Custom Servers
As with other Source engine games, Deathmatch: Source allows for a robust modding community. Players can easily find custom servers and user-created content, from new maps to modified gameplay modes, keeping the experience fresh.
What Could Be Better?
❌ Limited Popularity and Player Base
Despite its solid foundation, Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source suffers from a relatively small player base. As newer games in the genre continue to dominate, it can be difficult to find active matches, especially in more niche servers.
❌ Physics Can Feel Clunky
While the Source engine improved many aspects of the game, some of the physics—especially in terms of movement—can feel a little awkward compared to modern shooters. The transition to 3D space feels a bit more restrictive than anticipated, particularly when compared to the fluidity of more modern games.
❌ No Significant Gameplay Innovation
While the updated graphics and better physics are great, Deathmatch: Source doesn't introduce any major changes to the original formula. It feels more like a polished port rather than a revolutionary step forward for the genre. Players expecting something drastically new may be disappointed.
❌ Lack of Meaningful Progression
Like many classic deathmatch games, there’s a lack of meaningful progression or any form of unlockable content. While this keeps the focus on pure skill-based play, some players may miss the more modern systems that reward long-term engagement.
Conclusion
Half-Life: Deathmatch: Source is a solid multiplayer shooter for fans of the classic Half-Life experience. Its updated visuals and iconic weapons deliver the fun, high-speed action that fans love, but its small player base and lack of major innovation hold it back from achieving greater popularity. If you’re looking for nostalgic deathmatch action or enjoy modding, it’s a great choice, but don’t expect a revolutionary experience.
Rating: 7/10 – Fun for fans of classic shooters, but somewhat limited by its age and player base. 🎮💥
best game ive ever played. ever. genuinely. 10/10 story. 10/10 characters. 10/10 gunplay. 10/10 levels. would highly recommend
We are in 2025 and people still be running around Grenade launcher or satchel charging for their only kills :( GG to the whole community...all 9 of them i guess :)
wtf even is this game?
This game is good but not worth 10$ if you buy it make sure you get it during the steam summer sale
Внебрачный сын-инвалид Гейба
Half-Life 1 weapons ported to Source are just terrible! MAGNUM PROBABLY THE WORST ONE!!!!!
crowbar too op
classic game
Half-Life Deathmatch Source is a massively enjoyable visual masterpiece for those who adore classic arena battles. Irrespective of its seniority and tiny number of players, the game at present offers breath-taking, chaotic excitement thanks to the combination of spectacular weapons and physics-based gaming. Carrying out a crossbow shot towards the sky or flinging explosive barrels at rivals is something that will never get boring.
The main issue is the possibility of game crashes. While they're not so common that they spoil the play, they're quite irksome when you're right in the middle of a thrilling game. And still, for those who like old-school multiplayer shooters and can bear a few odd features, Half-Life Deathmatch: Source is really a memory-to-renew fun.
In case you do not experience the problem with the crashes, your game play will be quite smooth, in any case, they can be very irritating at the beginning of an intense match. However, they have very positive aspects, for example, the fact that the game is not updated often, thus many people - even those with slower internet - can play it without difficulty.
After forcing myself to finally download and launch the game... I actually played it for a while and began to like it! I never really was a huge fan of classic Deathmatch games, but after I found a half-full server here, I genuinely had some sort of satisfaction and fun as I spent my first 3 hours there.
I think you should give it a try. Yes, Half-Life Source is janky and SteamPipe made this game way much worse. Yes, the online may seem dead. But just try it.
Also, Spooky, you`ve spent 100K hours on this game... And I`m genuinely scared of you. Please spare me.
Half-Life deatmatch jest mech
Russians and bots and a few Germans left. Another America Last product.
good. recommended.
really good got it for free with half life 1
bruh there like 5 people playing this game me and 4 other bots
Actually good unlike Half-Life Source.
To be HONEST, This is not as BAD as other people say it is, but it's existence is questionable at most.. why isn't this included on HL:S or why do i have it when i only brought the orange box
Also it should be considered a federal crime trying to sell this for $9.99 standalone
(also most people only install this for gmod lmao)
Sadly a Dead Game, looks visually appealing but glass shatters are out of place in a game like this.
Somehow took 2 years for VALVe to release, and for some reason they made it a seperate game and not an update to HL: Source. Good thing this now becomes included with HL2..
Unlike Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, this actually runs on my PC. (I just built that PC, it has an i5 + RX 5600, don't know why it doesn't work). I think this is more fun anyways because it has more weapons. Servers with 6+ players feel like an active warzone.
I recommend, old deathmatch in the source engine. yummy
One of the closest things Valve has ever released that is total slop. The first time I joined a server in the game, I fell through the map and died, then when I went to join a different server, it crashed 2 times before I actually managed to join a server with only 2 people. Despite the fact that I haven't played much (Mostly because there was no-one playing and the general state the game was in), this game deserves a bad review (DON'T READ WHAT THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ARE SAYING, THEY ARE WRONG AND THIS GAME SUCKS SO GODDAMN MUCH)
fun ass shooting game
this is so bad i mean I love it but i cant connect with my friend with all my life even with synergy hamachi things with half life 2
