Love the art. The intro story is funny. The side scrolling gameplay is interesting.
It's not exactly polished, but it's got a lot of personality, surprise, and enjoyment to it. Definitely worth $5 bucks.
This game truly changed my life. I went from a relatively innocent sapling to a deranged pine tree with an insatiable bloodlust.
I sold a child on the black market for 300 gold to buy a backpack to carry more sticks and logs. Once I could carry more logs and sticks, I traveled on and discovered more children to sell. I built an airship and slaughtered the only other tree on the island with an airship. Then, threw a stick of dynamite at his empty ship, causing a disaster rivaling the Hindenburg.
Lets just say I had lots of adventures as tree. Fun for the whole family.
I love this game a lot. It has a few quirks and a few bugs, but this game leaves so many different strategies to beat it and it's very open ended.
I beat it like 5 or 6 times and 100% achievements.
I sincerely enjoyed playing this game. From the tutorial, the environments, the upgrade system, the bosses, the items and their descriptions, the surprisingly effective horror aspect, to the amusing dialogue, all were really well done. I'm especially happy this game has a Linux port that runs well and a great team behind its continued development to this day.
Great simple 2D rpg for a low price. It's fun, not overly complicated, has it's charm and has quite a bit of content - 6h+ for simple playtrough and probably around 20h+ for everything because of multiple endings.
The only bad thing is the bugs.
I myself didint get any game breaking ones, but a few that stopped me from getting some secrets or even different endings.
Also, a common problem is that after some time playing (for me 1h+) the game slows down/starts dropping fps, but you can just save and restart the game and it works normally again.
For just 5$ i consider this a nice deal.
This game is hilarious;
-I was catching butterflies to sell at the flea market and accidentally scooped up a "little kid" in my critter net - I sold him at the flea market along with the butterflies I caught and gambled it all away!
-Smoking is bad for your health, it will cause demons to appear from the shadows and attack you until you find the "cure".
-Airship Pirates x 1.
-I hired a hobo to do some dirty work - hehehe.
-3 sticks + 6 feathers = $40 (enough for a golden ticket).
-Wearing a magical hat is trully magical.
-I got a malnourished doggie from some guy at the market and nursed it back to health - fetch doggie fetch.
-Cooking any raw meat on a fire is better than eating it raw.
-Stealing is bad, bad bad bad.
-The mountain lady will play soothing music for a price.
-Multiple endings.
I would love to write a postive review for this game, I enoy it when it's working.
But, I just find myself running into bug after bug after bug.
I've been having to restart the game and make new characters left and right.
This game hasn't gotten much attention lately so, I don't expect it to be fixed.
Very promising title. Unfortunately there are some issues in the keyboard and mouse controls which render the game unplayable on my Ubuntu 16.04 set-up.
An extremely fun game about exploration, problem-solving, and survival overshadowed by an unimpressive amount of bugs.
If there's one thing I'll say though, I became easily and quickly hooked on it. The problem like I said, are the bugs. There are far too many to make this game playable entirely through without the hopes of not running into bugs that would potentially end the game in limbo.
Checking the game's discussion thread involving "Bugs". Many of them are bugs that could by trial and error, be countered (although a fix should always be addressed). But there are however other reported bugs that unfortunately put the players' entire work and effort on halt (sometimes permanently) because of a bug in the storyline that doesn't allow their game to progress.
I am one of those people and although I say the game is great fun, it also needs to be playable all throughout to the end. Developers have somewhat been active and I say that loosely as the common "invisible enemies" bug is still present since the beginning despite there being a "We'll be looking into it" quite a while ago. Whereas game breaking glitches/bugs usually end in a "Upload your save file to us and we'll try and fix it" along with an entire guide on how to do it.
Sure, I appreciate what you're trying to do and the amount of effort you're trying to putting out, but there has to be an easier way. Players don't want to work even more to fix their game cause it's not their responsibility whether or not it works.
This sets a standard where players need to decide whether or not it's worth buying the game knowing that their entire story progress can be for nothing all because of an error the developers overlooked.
I want to recommend this game because it really is tons of fun, but the bugs stand that much higher that it's hard to pick a side. I want to say I'm in the middle, but a game needs to be solid in the ways of the main story.
Someone get the pesticide.
can hardly get passed the home screen and when i do cant customise my character at all. the controlles are so laggy I have not even been able to play the game.
EDIT: was finally able to start the game and was it felt like a personal insult., i couldnt play for more than a minute. There are better games on crazymonkeygames and they are not hard to find.
It's a cute game. I really wish it was playable. The controls are awful. I use a controller, but I still have to use the keyboard for several things. It's frustrating to have to play with both. The controls are kind of awkward and complex, which makes moving around irritating. While you're still trying to move around properly, the enemies kill you. It could be a good game if they fixed a few of the random bugs and the controls. Until then, as cute and interesting as the game is, I can't say you should get it for anything less than free. And even then it's not really worth the achievements.
I reported a bug. The Developer responded and released a patch for my issue on the very same day. How's that for product support??!!
Buy this game and support small developers!!
Oh, and, it's fun, hilarious, easy to play and has good music.
I bought this game hoping for good controller support... and now it has it! The developer is amazingly prompt and helpful with problems. The game itself is simple but fun in an oldschool rpg sort of way. I have been enjoying murdering many cute hand drawn animals with my trusty blood covered axe. I definitely recommend the game if you are looking for a casual RPG adventure with a unique flavor.
Okay, I waited until I played the full version to post a review of The Adentures Of Tree. I wanted to be fair to both the devs and the fans of this game. In two words: LOVE it!
This game is extremely addictive. I've played for roughly 9 hours today and I highly recomend buying and playing this game. Well worth the asked price.
I love this game, The Humour is great and the gameplay is actually quite addictive and fun considering how simple it's overall idea is, and at times you do have to go out and explore for yourself, it definatly ticks the adventure feel box
The Graphic are pleasing
A very classic feel to it.
there's allot of bugs though, and the developers seem to be quite slow on updating it compared to other indevelopment games i've played
The developer's should really get to working more on this game, it has really good potential for a final outcome
If you're looking for a relaxing little RPG adventure your search has an end. The story is very short - well, actually there is no real story (except for an intro and an ending clip) - but you have do several quests, earn money for better equipment and skillpoints to beat the game. AND: You can finish the game in different ways! Which brings me to the next good point: It's really fun to gain all the achievements. Some are very easy, some are quite tricky - but after all it's nothing like: Play 1,000,000 hours...
The price is fair, because: I bought it a month after the release and (apart from the fact that the game was already really fun to play back then) the devs did and still do great work. It is(/was?) their first project and they immediately dealt with your problems and gave you feedback/ updated the game promptly. Also the game is already out of Early Access and they still add free content and quests, so... any more words?
**EDIT 1**: It is still in development but this review if for it's current state.
I know I used to recommend this game, but as seeing the final release and everything from now on is only going to be bug fixes I have to change it to negative. First off the good is that it's a pretty fun open world rpg where you can go back and forth doing quests. I played a lot of Poptropica as a kid and this game reminded me a lot of it. Now for the negatives;
1. The loading screens- For a pretty simple game I have no idea why it takes to fricken long to load. Not only that but the game freezes for simple stuff like opening your inventory. Seriously, why is this a problem?
2. Combat- Combat is just downright terrible. Which sucks because it plays a pretty big role in the game. It just feels so awkward and un-natural that I don't look forward to any combat I have to do.
Overall it is not a terrible game but it could have been way better at the same time. Get it on sale if you're into these kind of games
Great Game. I feel like this game has the possibility to be just as good as or even better than The Escapists, Subnauitica, Standed Deep, and other popular games. This game has a ton of potential. The only problem I had was trying to find a control list. It took me quite a while to figure the controls and a tutorial would help a ton. Anyways, the overall game is Great. Keep it up and it will be rewarding.
A lot more fun than I expected. Great soundtrack, Open world, Beautiful hand drawn scenery and much more. As of right now there are a few bugs but the devs are wonderful and fix them fast. New content is added every week and the devs put so much effort in to make this the best game possible.
This game is pretty good for an early access game and as it stands I would recommend it.
You play as a tree...called tree :). Who sets out on a journey across a beautiful hand drawn world to put an end to the Florps evil reign. Sounds pretty cool right?
The core of the game is simple. It is a side scrolling game with simple jump, fight and interaction mechanics.
It offers a limited customisation aspect with head, weapon and side arm gear. Although it does give you damage stats for different weapons (and there seems to be a few different weapons) so you don't have to stick with one weapon all the way trhough the game. Furthermore head gear also gives you extra stats such as long sprint or more regen from food etc.
It has a small aspect of survival with a food bar below your health bar. Keeping an eye on these two bars is essential and you need to make sure you have food on you at all times! Or you will suffer. You can even hire a fellow town member for 10 gold pieces to go out and scavenge food for you! So that is always a last resort!
You can pick up quests from fellow trees who will offer you rewards if you complete them. At the moment they seem pretty simple. Go out and grab a certain number of the item and bring them back for a reward. Im hoping eventually they may be qeusts to kill certain monsters etc that would be a nice addition if it isn't in the game already. You can even ally with different races to help you in the fight against the enemy!!
The game also does not tell you where to go, what to do or how to do it. So it is all up to you to figure it out. This could be annoying for some people but that satisfaction when you finally figure out how to accomplish something is a damn good feeling :). It took me ages to figure out at one point how to get to the next mountain area urghhh ha.
Hedghogs/spiky frogs are the hardest enemies on the game ha! Do not land on top of them or they will kill you within a few hits! A tree being killed by a hedgehog/frog haha amazing!!
As is stands it is playable and enjoyable but can be frustrating at times when you have no idea where to go! But hey thats the fun of the adventure right?? trying to figure out what to do! I would definitely recommend this if you like side scrolling games with a nice story, a beautiful hand drawn world, nice and simple fighting mechanics and trying to figure out where and what the hell to do!
Here is a link to a video on my channel where I show you guys some gameplay footage hope you enjoy!!
I also want to add. The developers of this game are awesome! Very helpful, update the game when needed and all round are nice developers!!
