love the nostalgia...
still the peak of arcade vs simulation after all these years!
Still great. Plays buttery smooth, at any rez, and still is a blast. Mission design is fantastic -- shift power the engines, and get those tie bombers, or you're gonna lose.
You'll need to mix it up a little, with the keyboard and the gamepad. There aren't really enough buttons. Not much of a problem, really -- think of it as a real X-Wing simulator, where not all the controls are on the stick itself.
There are hardware wrapper mods available for playing in 640x480 (or higher) resolutions, and.. yeah it looks good, like an update from 1993 to like... 2004? Still a pretty good improvement, especially with the higher rez textures in the remaster.
It's a hard game -- if you die during a mission, you'll either be rescued and get to try again, or be killed, or captured, and then your pilot career is over, you yeah, you need to start again.
Yup, you read that right -- step aside, Dark Souls, its Ironman mode for everyone, all the time. You could copy your save file, if you want to cheat death (even though that's pretty sad) -- they hadn't made such a thing impossible, at the time.
Should you buy it? Yes, yes you should. Worth every penny, if you ever dreamed of flying a starfighter, and have even the slightest appreciation for the quality of older games' solid gameplay.
It keeps crashing every time I go to play a mission, therefore unplayable. If there's a fix for this, I'd love to know about it.
This is a classic video game from the 90s. It is amazing and very nostalgic. I enjoyed plying this game then and now. I highly recommend.
