It’s not clear why there is so much darkness; in some places you can’t see anything at all

Navigate through darkness, deciding whether to sacrifice yourself to illuminate the path for future generations. With both a classic mode and engaging mini-games, it offers diverse gameplay. don't even know how this game ended up in my steam library but thought i'd give it a try.
the quality of a bad flash game
i mean at least the ghost is cute?
What a nice little game. The premise consists on you travelling completely dark levels to the ending. When you die, you lit that area, so you need to die often to light your way. The main mode isn’t long, but you can use the knowledge from previous runs to reach the end with fewer deaths. Besides the darkness, you’ll also face sawblades and reapers that just charge at you. A simple premise but works well enough. Plus, there’s also extra modes to prolong the length of the game: collect 20 coins in an empty area, collect all chips in a Pac-man style maze and endless fall in which you need to avoid sawblades. Each mode in the game has some objectives to complete in the achievement section, and it’s a waste that those achievements are only in-game, not on Steam itself. The game also tracks some stats. And has trading cards. It’s a cheap simple title, but I enjoyed it.
There isn't a lot to this game, but I think that's part of its charm. It's a member of the group of puzzle games that ask "what if death was part of the economy of winning?" And it does that job well, if briefly. Probably only good for an hour or two of amusement, but manages that well.
( Read it on Tumblr if you want. )
Sometimes: Success Requires a Pac Man clone
(TLDR: Bad game, dont buy)
So i bought this game in 2015 and it still pisses me off
It at least has a cool concept, but that doesn’t excuse it
So in this game you’re in a dark room and you kill yourself, and your ghost leaves a light you use to brighten the room up
you make your way to the goal and repeat, adding obstacles à la super meat boy.
Then theres a second game mode- where instead of killing yourself to find a hole to throw yourself in to kill yourself more, you kill yourself to find medals in a dark void of nothing but grass and medals
BUT WAIT THERES MORE: the third minigame is an endless drop into the void where you fall into saws à la super meat boy. and the game ends when you die
and the last game is a pac man skin but its in the dark
So why does this piss me off so much?
I could of made this game in high school. That’s why. in fact- i did! My class was given clickteam fusion- the tool this game was made in- and given instructions to make a pac-man game. Me, being a somewhat creative individual- went the extra mile to add some extra things, such as a bit of darkness, some powerups, cheats and separate graphics.
That took less than a day to make. a class period or two.
I didn’t sell my 10 minute school project because no one needs another pac-man clone.
That, and the music is a loop of what sounds like a stock piano track
And its not fun.
10/10 game though.
So this game requires you to die.... Like, a lot. You'll start off in each level in a pitch black area. Once you die (and you have to) your soul will linger there and consequently light up that area. So, basically the idea is to use your past mistake and navigate towards the end portal while avoiding spike traps and freaking insta-kill ghost.
There's both Classic and Endless mode for those who like a challenge. Me, on the other hand, has seen enough after 100 deaths. Onward to the next game.
Decent 3 / 5.
Oh, the game does have achievements but it's in-game instead of integrated with Steam. That's a bummer.
Even for 99 cents this game just... It's not a game. It's got a few core ideas that a game could possibly be built around, but instead of fleshing them out, it packages them up as some kind of attempt at an "art piece" type experience, but the execution is just not there. The music is atmospheric, but it's also all over the place from one track to the next, but that's totally at odds with the shitty death noise, which you'll be hearing A LOT, even in a simple one to two minutes of playtime.
The worst offense though, is that the game's core mechanic- moving around in darkness- is hampered by controls that feel floaty. If you're supposed to be trying to navigate this unlit world trying to avoid obstacles, the least the developer could do is not have the character continue to drift lazily onwards when you stop pressing the button, but more than once in my short playtime I found myself frustrated already with the fact that it felt like the little alien or whatever you're supposed to be was walking around in slippers on a hardwood floor.
Overall you'll clear "classic" in maybe five minutes unless you REALLY take your time, and the other options are just not enough to keep you engaged. Heck, one option just takes you to a site to download a totally separate game, and another is a totally unrelated minigame that just completely throws the mechanics of the main section out the window.
2/10- There's *something* there in the gameplay, but it's just not very fun as it's been presented now.
This is a concept. Not a game.
There is nothing to achieve. No story. No skill required. No meaning.
You simply run around a black screen until you either run into a blade, you decide to kill yourself, or you stumble into a portal. There's little way to determine where the portal is going to be, you might be right next to it and have no indication. Same with the blades, you're not going to know they are there until you die on them.
If there was something else built in to give more guidance, a light pattern or sounds, I would call it a game. If the levels were actual mazes you had to figure out in the dark, I'd call this a game. If there was some sort of story attached, I'd call this a game. At least that way you have a hope of achieving something without dying constantly.
The only thing you're sacrificing when you play this "game" is your time.
Usually dying is a way to challenge the player to become better. Here, dying is boring and ironically aimless. It just doesn't have enough grip tokeep me interested.
It's an awesome game if you are looking for a calm and relaxing experience.
BUT...
The splash sound that it makes when you "die" is WAY too loud, so if i'm playing and want to enjoy the music and atmosphere, the "death" sound is ruining the experience.
And i also miss having an option to turn on fullscreen.
With all that said, YES i'd recommend this game to others :) it's calm and relaxing!
Your game started from a dark place,,
Your objective is finding the exit portal,,
Every time you died you'll release your soul become a light bulb and make the area revealed..
Keep dying make the game easier to complete, but reduce your score..
Not suitable for children since it contain blood and violence on the game..
*NB : Suicide ==> press Space Bar
Would definitely recommend this to anyone who just wants a nice little game to play while relaxing.
There's a few different modes to play, all of them fun.
You play as a cute little character, in darkness.
If you want to see more of where you're going, you have to kill yourself which will light up the area around your body.
A great price for a game that I can see that I'll be getting many hours of enjoyment out of in the future.
:)
The first thing you are presented with in the game is "you'll probably lose your save". Great way to start...
At least they weren't lying.
Unfortunately I have to play this game on mute because the death noise is extremely teeth-grinding.
I cannot recommend a game that tells you it's broken and is in fact broken.
Well. 2D labyrinths are too easy. Let's do that in the dark.
- Oh, man, the player won't find the exit in the dark.
- OK... I have an idea! Let's do light by allowing the player to blow the cursor!
- Good idea, also replace the cursor by a cute little guy.
- Anyway, this is boring. How about adding collectibles?
- Sure, and achievements!
- It's still very repetitive, don't you think.
- Yes... let's price it low.
You get the point. I played for 10 minutes. Maybe the exploration gets better. I don't know, and don't want to spend time discovering it. Especially after reading the "sorry guys" note about, maybe you will lose all your progress because of a bug.
One positive things about this computer program: music is cool. 1$ (well, technically .99) is not cheap for 10' of play.
Run around blind or kill yourself to make light! Game has you collecting items in order to win the level. As you get to high levels traps begins to get added!
pros
Game Modes-classic,Endless, Heart,Trust, Fall, and Chips
Nice background music
Good for casual game play
Nice idea and concept
Good character handling
Stats and achievement pages
Cons
Repetitive
No online leader board
No options.
can't play in fullscreen.
Super fun game. Soothing music fun gamepaly easy way to kill a few minutes or hours! Cant beat that price!
This game is loads of fun and I think if the developers continued to update it I would play it quite often. I just finished recording some YouTube videos for it and they will be up soon. I will tweet the creators once they are uploaded :)
This is a beautiful game with relaxing music and good gameplay.
Overall this game is Banter.
420/360 IGN .
Baby's first gamemaker game -- Sort of. There are 4-5 simple game( mode?)s wrapped in one here, and they all seem competently put together even if the graphics are nothing special. Interesting idea for a mechanic, though it isn't polished enough to be fulfilling to play. Overall, this game is more like an artist's sketchbook, than a finished piece -- probably not worth selling or buying, but very valuable practice for the author. They should have waited, and put their next, possibly more cohesive, project up instead.
Summary of game modes:
* "Classic" : Top down, everything is pitch black, press space to start level over, leaving behind a ghostly light source where you were standing. Find the maze exit, avoiding buzz saws. Many levels.
* "Endless" : Top down, pitch black, search a forest for collectibles, light it with ghosts.
* "Heart" : Opens up a browser, to a page you can download a platformer from. I did not download and install it. It seems like maybe that sort of thing should be included in the actual executable steam installs..? I may go download that (appears free?) game instead and check it out, at a future date.
* "Trust Fall" : Fall through blackness, dodge buzzsaws, go for longest fall.
* "Chips" : Pick up collectibles in a Pacman maze.
An almost cutsie little game, it's so simple that you can really overthink it when you first aquire it. The goal is to get into a big blue sharp looking swirly thing (I though it was killing me when I got into it the first couple of times. turns out it's the level end portal)
There are only five things that you can do.
1. Run around (or away from ghost / scythe / Death things)
2. find collectables (gold coin things)
3. Commit suicide to provide light
4. die on obsticles and provide light
5. get into the portal (swirlly blue thing)
The only real irk that I have is in the controls... there is no delay between death and respawn, which means that if you die with your finger on the down key, you instantly respawn and are moving down, potentially to straight into a death-thing. It would be nice if there was some minor / tiny delay so that you had time to register that you'd died, and could get your finger off the trigger.
I haven't completed the game, so there may be more ways to die than those mentioned here.
So, yes / no?
um it's a kind - of Zen type game, at least the early stages have been, with unlimited lives, and every death making the next run easier. Know what you're getting into, and you'll be fine.
