played on steamdeck using proton hotfix. it runs really well and enjoyed my time.
not even a big batman fan but it was gun. it is short man story, and unless your interested in some vrry optionsl side content its about 10 or so hours.
worth on sale for a 1 time play, next arkham city.
classic batman game. fun, lots to do with Riddler trophies, great story and really fun combat system
amazing graphics and fun game
Honestly for a 2010 game it beats most games to day graphics and optimisation wise. The game-play is obviously clunky but the stealth and mechanics make it up for it. I recommend solid 9/10
One of the classics from when i was younger. Story still holds up perfectly well, though combat fluidity does show its age. Countering is a 50/50 toss up whether it wants to register or not. It also suffers the late 2000s syndrome of spamming more and more enemies the later into the game you go which is more of a drag than anything else. Really wish they capitalized better with the bosses. Save for the Bane fight, it all boils down to "fight all these henchmen then watch a cinematic of batman beating/outsmarting them". 7.8/10
The beginning of a franchise which never released a bad game. Inevitably, this one has the most outdated graphics, with the least polish and fewest mechanics, however there is a silver lining in all of this - nostalgia. The game still plays excellently, with all the charm of a 2000s action hit and some memorable boss fights. Just know that if you start with this one, they only get better from here!
Batman: Arkham Asylum is a complete package. While it does not have an open world and the story is quite linear, the game rewards your exploration and invites you to immerse yourself in this juicy universe.
Batman as a character is grounded, yet stealthy. It takes a bit to get used to the mechanics but the game is satisfying to play.
For it being a 15-year-old game that I have played for the first time this year, it holds up remarkably well!
Barely enough playtime. It is my least favorite of the games in the Arkham series. Still has great graphics and combat though. I would recommend but if you are not looking to purchase all the Arkham games this is not the one to buy.
An enjoyable beginning to the "Batman: Arkham" franchise, Rocksteady Studios produced a real gem here with all of the violent action expected from a Batman title and a range of assorted antagonists to deploy it against. "Batman: Arkham Asylum" neatly fills the expected mold of both the larger Batman universe as well as typical adventure platformers from the early 21st-century. The climbing and verticality are A-Tier, the technology is terrific, the objectives are excellent, the collectibles are catchy, the soundscape is sublime, and the plot is...serviceable.
The Batman canonical universe has always tread a fine line between contemporary fiction and low fantasy, stretching all the way from fringe science to superstitious shamanism, so no one should open a new installment in the franchise expecting a plot taken from our own world. But "Batman: Arkham" really does smash through any possible suspension of disbelief straight into shear absurdity within seconds of being switched on. This will only spoil the opening cutscene of the title, but within minutes of arriving at the Gotham's most secure psychiatric facility for the criminally insane, the Joker breaks free from Batman's custody...and takes over the entire facility's security...and also releases the other prisoners...who are then recruited by Joker...who also kidnaps Commissioner Gordon...and the Warden. If security really was that threadbare, then part of me feels a certain justice after this first scene because of Arkham's comically weak security and poor leadership, and this feeling is reinforced as Batman travels through Arkham witnessing the macabre implements used to supress the inmate population. The gratuitous punishment by the leaders of the asylum complicates the Good-and-Evil narrative originally offered in a way that I'm not sure the screenwriters noticed and leaves an intuitive player to ask if they are really supporting the cause of justice.
Moralizing aside, it's still a banger of a title with a compact and impactful story and a great range of characters. I wish some of the achievements were easier (God, I hate Challenge Room achievements) but I can still endorse the title and will pick up the successors in the franchise.
Remember kids, Crime doesn't pay.
Batman: Arkham Asylum was my first Batman game, and to be honest I never had much with the Batman or DC universe. Still, the gameplay looked fun & the world looked awesome.
I must say, I’m pleasantly surprised, especially considering the fact this game is now almost 15 years old. Let’s start with the looks. You can see this is an older game, but it doesn’t look bad in any way. You notice the aging mostly in the mechanics and character models, while the environments still look good. Talking about environments, in this game you roam around the island of Arkham Asylum. The map is small and consists mostly of a set of buildings where you go back and forth for the main quest. The buildings offer unique environments, and are all just different enough for it to feel fresh and I also like the idea of going back to places, especially because some of these places change based on the story. I do wish the map would’ve been a bit bigger and offer more exploration.
The gameplay and especially the combat is of course where Batman games shine. First the gameplay. It plays.. Fine. It’s not bad, but it definitely shows its age and can feel a bit clunky at times. The combat however, still feels solid to this day. It’s free flowing combat, a bit on the button mashing side, but it feels great. Batman performs combos, jumps over enemies and finishes them off all while feeling fluent, yet responsive. It’s better than most games to this day.
The story is great. It brings some great characters we all know like Scarecrow, Croc, Batman(duh), Poison Ivy and some more. Especially Joker is done really well, and throughout the story there are a lot of typical Joker moments.
I would highly recommend this game, even after 15 years. It still holds up as a fun single player game, with an interesting map, great characters and some funny moments.
Batman: Arkham Asylum is a fantastic action-adventure game that brings the Dark Knight to life with great combat mechanics, a gripping story, and a beautifully designed world. Plus, with the Game of the Year Edition, you get extra content to keep the fun going. Oh, and did I mention Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy? They're not just villains – they're here for some eye relaxation, if you know what I mean! 😏
Rating: 4.3/5
Good game. It has a good story until the point I played. Portraits Joker really well too.
Despite the game is 15 years old, it still feels pretty new. For sure, it has a bit outdated graphics and some mechanics are being clunky, but the game overall feels smooth, with a nice combat system. Stealth feels a little bit boring with lack of core mechanics like eliminating foes below the ground or better hiding.
The plot is average: there is nothing bad to say about it yet there's nothing to be impressed of either.
Overall, it's a nice game to spend a friday night in there, but nothing more. But if you're a real fan of DC Univerce, the game's age don't need to bother you - you will definitely like it.
This is the first arkham batman game I have play and it is amazing the last fight with joker was kinda underwhelming but for a game that is 15 years old it is amazing. LOVE IT
Batman: Arkham Asylum is a fantastic game. It does a lot of things excellently. There is fascinating combat, elaborate stealth, and fun exploration.
Also, the player does not have to be very knowledgeable about Batman in order to enjoy this game, because the story is not complicated, the game uses well-known characters, and there are also short and interesting explanations about lesser-known characters in text form to collect.
I think this is a game that can not be missed in the game collection of people who enjoy adventure games.
not good can't even play the game before clicking start game it crashes with a notice letter that cannot be fix
I can see why people like this game and i respect that. I came into this game with too high expectations and thats my fault. The combat is fun but overall ive just been bored. Im gonna move onto city next tho. I hope i enjoy that one more because i am pretty dissapointed. The writing was just... cringy honestly. nothing really scared me or made me genuially invested sadly
doesnt ufking work i spent hours scrolling internet threads installing Directx and SDK things and turning off my firewall while i download and launch the game i have read alot of fixes for this 10yr? old game. None did anything ive restarted tried launching compatibility modes which just begs the question after 4-6 hrs of work what the fuck am i doing...? Im not a computer guy I just enough to break things severely and no idea as to what i broke. I like many of you am forced to buy games multiple times over the years so i see this bundle for 10$ BAA BAC BAK. i already paid for 2 base games for console at full retail price but hey its a good deal, I get the DLC's i get to play on my PC which is better? Oh but it is not better because now i have 30% of my purchase just locked, gated, stolen? i dunno inaccessible to say the least. can i refund the few dollars for 1/3 of my bundled purchase not working, no. can i get a game i paid for twice to work after years of being out nope. Thousands of threads, videos, and articles online maybe I should have done more diligence but hey its not like i can get another Batman game from the other company? Im not happy, Im genuinely pissed off your selling a bundle with 1/3 of it not working properly, im pissed i cant do anything other than all or nothing. Only the Sith deal in absolutes. i hope your downfall isnt worthy of a trilogy
it has beautiful combat gameplay and good story. I wish harley quinn is playable in challenges. But overall the game is awesome, also Batman is awesome.
This game series is legendary, on par with Half-life. Despite being different video game genres, the way in which both of these games were carefully designed in every possible detail is jaw-dropping. In my opinion, one of the best video game series of all time. Words cannot describe how good this game is.
I highly recommend.
Game is good but definitely shows its age compared to the later instalments in the Arkham franchise and is in dire need of a remake that adds some quality of life improvements to its combat, traversal and map when it comes to it's Riddler trophies, riddles, and Joker Teeth collectibles.
Smaller scope than the others (normal being the first one), but a great game nonetheless that's better in some things than the sequels, like its atmosphere.
Man Man made me hope for a power outage to not have to experiance the combat.
10/10
An impressive game for its time, as well as fun and with great gameplay that makes you feel like you're in Batman's shoes and immersed in this universe. If you've already played a game with a similar combat system, know that it is very satisfying here, despite the timing of counters and commands leaving something to be desired. If you're one of those players who likes challenges, collecting all collectibles, and achieving 100%, you'll have a considerable level of challenge and many hours of gameplay. An excellent game and a classic. I highly recommend it!
amazing game not as good as the other arkham games but still good compared to some of them.
It is a great beginning to the Arkhamverse. I loved it when I first played it on the console, and it still holds up all these years later. It's a shame that the same can't be said about Rocksteady
The father for modern day superhero games. The combat is ok compared to city and knight, but the atmosphere and story makes up for it. Really recommend playing if u wanna get into the Arkham series.
fun game, played in childhood and never finished, one would say ive been gooning for years untill recently
beautiful linear cinematic game thats ahead of its time in terms of storytelling. adorably fluent and satisfying combat. nice puzzles.
This was an amazing game. It's decently difficult, but not to the point where you get stuck, it's got an interesting story, good pacing, and overall really fun.
A good action adventure game, keeps you engaged all the time.
This game is extremely fun and has a fairly interesting storyline if you look for the secrets in the game. Speaking of, there are a LOT of fun secrets, including trophies hidden by the Riddler, patient interview tapes, and hidden cryptic messages. The combat is fun, however the combat challenges are somewhat frustrating. 8/10, would play again.
i pressed the x button pretty damn well tbh
This game has a lot going for it and I'm honestly upset I never got to play it when I was younger. The visuals would have blown my mind as a kid and it holds up really well today. The gameplay is pretty simple: sneak around or beat up a swarm of goons until a cut scene happens, and thankfully the game is short enough where you won't be so bored you gouge your eyes out.
Speaking of bored, I didn't much care for the Riddler's inclusion sadly. Collectibles are always welcome in a game and there are plenty in this one that you're gonna run into just by progressing, but lord knows I didn't care enough to actively solve any riddles for certain areas after the 2 hour mark. The codex I DID like though. Having biographies for these iconic characters as well as interview tapes for the inmates of the asylum (I also liked that I could listen to them in the background and still play the game).
I did play this on normal mode and I'm sure I'd feel differently on a higher difficulty but I do wish the game was a bit "harder." The stealth segments are very non-linear, giving you at least 2-3 options you can start with the second you enter a room full of Joker's buddies. This aspect I do like, it doesn't need to be changed BUT I felt like after unlocking the hanging takedown, a lot of the tension goes out the window. The game has a lot of gizmos and gadgets that you can unlock with only a few of them being necessary to complete the campaign. A lot of these optional tools I picked up, I never used, really; Outside of an "oh yea, what does this do" moment, I never felt the need to be creative with them.
One recurring theme I liked a lot was the Scarecrow's segments, especially the last one. Running the intro back but reversing Batman and Joker's roles was really cool, and the boss fight was nice as well. FUCK the Killer Croc section though. That was pure, unfiltered ass used to stretch out the length of the game another 20 minutes. I would have rather swam in that nasty sewer water and get my suit all wet then stand on a bunch of wooden pallets that all conveniently float and are next to each other throughout the entire sewer system of this island-- Who thought of this?
On the topic of dumb things this game does, a really glaring one is have the camera so close to Batman you could grab his cape and throw it over his head. He takes up 1/3 of the screen and it makes moving around really obnoxious. Sprinting is somehow worse with Batman moving from the left side of the screen to the center and his flowing cape covering most of the bottom half.
Overall, the game is really fun and I'm looking forward to finishing the arkham trilogy and not touching Origins.
Loved Mark Hamil's Joker performance. And Kevin Conroy's Batman. May he rest in peace. This game is a horror game in disguise of a superhero game from its ambient. I mean, it is DC, of course, it will be dark. Batman and his villains are always a unique factor in a fictional universe. Great soundtracks, combat and boss fights. The Joker boss fight at the end was a bit anti-clamatic. But not completely terrible.
It's a fun game. Batman controls like an arthritic tank but there are enough times where it works and you feel cool. The boss fights are pretty underwhelming, but the Scarecrow bits and the parts where you have to sneak around knocking out increasingly frightened goons is peak Batman. The only problem I had on the Steam Deck is that the clock doesn't seem to understand the Deck's standby mode. In reality, I played for like 10-15 hours.
Fantastic game. The story, the game play, the visuals - everything is top notch!
It's an old game however it runs flawlessly even on modern OS without compatibility issues or bugs.
Despite being over a decade old, it doesn't feel too sloppy or mechanically outdated however I had issues with countering in the game as I was hit many times even after hitting the counter button.
Story wise, its a great game and the characters are decent. Boss fights are great and I felt like this game had too many boss fights.
It's the greatest series of games IMO. Play them all, and you will better appreciate DC Comics storytelling when it is done correctly.
Whoo boy.
This game is so damn good. The exploration is great. The combat basically redefined action combat. It nailed the feel of playing as Batman. It's hands down one of the best games I've played.
It's a classical masterpiece that defined modern combat systems and level design. A must play and a wonderful game that (hopefully, cuz I haven't played the other 2) started one of the best trilogies in gaming.
This is one of the best games I have played and is one of my favorites. I just wish this amazing character got the ending he deserved.
Solid story. Great boss fights. Good graphics overall that hold up well. Controls are good mostly, but some of them could be a bit more refined. The maps are also a bit of a maze and it can be difficult to navigate where to go next for new players. Regardless, this is a very impressive game that holds up surprisingly well given how old it is. For reference, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows was released only a year prior and is very very dated in comparison, so this game is insanely refined and well structured when you put it in context of the release date. Graphically, it even looks better than something like GTA IV from around the same time (which isn't even a bad looking game, it's just that this game is THAT good looking). Great experience! Can't wait to play Arkham City next!
really satisfying gameplay, and amazing physics.
Nvidia PhysX is surprisingly impressive for this 2009 game. Its comparable to alot of next-gen games that utilize physics even more which is cool
Really love coming back to this game every now and then its so nostalgic and i still love this game more and more every time i play it.
Great soundtrack and athmosphere, the Batman we expected to be
The atmosphere and aesthetics of the game was brilliant, I especially loved the idea of Joker and an asylum being together in a game. Every single place was extremely detailed, making it fun to explore (including the Riddlers little puzzles even tho I gave up on completing them). The issues I had with the game were the encounter system and design of the mobs. The encounter click always bugged (Which I think is due to the game being made for Playstation not pc) No matter how many times I pressed right click on my mouse, I got hit almost all the time adding unnecessary difficulty to my game. Characters such as Joker, Ivy, Harley had amazing designs BUT the "musclar men" designs of the mobs (especially the Venom/titan things. What. was. that. joker. brothers.) gave me nausea.
This was my first proper introduction into batman, and it's what got me into the franchise. It's a great starting point if you're a batman noob like I was.
After later watching the animated series, films and reading the comics, I honestly believe this is the definitive, best version of the characters you can find.
The voice cast is made up of the same actors who did the animated series in the 90s- Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Arleen Sorkin, etc- these people have been voicing these characters for literal decades and it shows- they're just a part of these characters as the characters are them. (Literally in the case of Harley Quinn who was based on her voice actress)
Even if you're not a superhero/comic fan, this game still has an amazing atmosphere, amazing voice acting, fun gameplay and is overall a rock solid game. And again- if you're curious about getting into batman- buy this game. In my opinion this is the best version of batman and the joker. Period.
for those looking to be the badman fighting the chonkler, this is the game for you. 9/10, a very enjoyable experience, great combat, amazing story, very gritty world, and many fun mechanics. Unfortunately I had to dock a point for not enough poison ivy screentime.
in 2009, I don't even know what Ps or Pc means and this master peace was out! It would have been blown my mind how good this game is at that time.
I'm already blown away from 15 years old game, I'm about to blown across the universe by playing other Arkham Series.
And I just finish the game and I got to tell you, it was prefect, perfect, everything down to my last new details.
the story is insane, the gameplay is insane and the puzzle is fucking insane
