da na na na da na na na da na na na da na na na BATMAN
good luck 100% this game is one of the hardest to do so, I have taken over 10 years as a kid and an adult coming back to this game multiple times to do it, you have to complete everything, for every character, and catwoman suks asssssssss
A very nice game to be honest. Was impressed by the story more than the gameplay while the gameplay is also nice. Would recommend if you want to play a Batman game with nice story and gameplay.
Even after all these years, Batman: Arkham City remains a masterpiece. Its open world offers endless ways to approach missions, blending fluid combat, stealth, and detective work seamlessly.
Despite being an older game, the graphics still impress with a beautifully detailed characters and city that feels alive and immersive. The diversity in gameplay and make it a near-perfect experience. A must-play for any fan of Batman.
It's good but not as excellent as it's predecessor.
For me the story in this game is laughably bad. Arkham City as a place feels like a stand-in for "No man's land" from the comics but contrived and stupid. All that prime real-estate just walled of and turned into prison???
Main plot is really short but is simultaneously split between stopping Strange and curing Joker and is executed really sloppy, especially after a focused story of "Asylum".
Character writing is also really bad with the most dry and void of charisma Batman ever and every villain being the most one dimensional version of itself.
Combat received a great improvement in complexity but i was baffled by how late and how little mechanics ware introduced and used.
Environments and world building are excellent and it's a joy to just stand and admire the craft and care they ware given.
Great game but if i had to rank it it would be on the bottom of Arkham games.
Amazing combat; riddles actually make you think, and you don't need to *rely* on detective mode like you did in Asylum.
Still play Arkham Asylum though. It's awesome.
Compared to Arkham Asylum, most aspects are greatly improved; however, some are even more annoying.
The switching of the characters is interesting and brings in new and fresh air, but you are subconsciously used to the fighting style from the character you just played, which makes you mess the fights up when you switch to another character. For example, Catwoman is faster, and when you get used to it, you'll get hit more often when being Batman. You also get used to the gadgets/combos, which makes you use the wrong gadgets/combos in a fight because you're on the wrong characters, which makes you get hit more often.
Still, overall, the Batman aspects of this are way better than its predecessor's.
I am Batman. I leap from rooftops, punch bad guys, and dramatically disappear into the shadows with epic music playing. But what do I actually spend my time doing? Collecting RIDDLER TROPHIES. There are more of those damn things than there are criminals in Gotham!
The Main Game
Arkham City is like a Netflix show: at first, you're blown away by the plot twists, villains, and drama. And then, somehow, you find yourself stuck in a basement solving yet another one of Riddler's puzzles, asking, "Why am I still doing this?"
When you're not chasing after green question marks, the game is absolutely brilliant:
- Run away from Harley Quinn, who's basically that ex that just won't let go.
- Fight the Joker, who’s having the time of his life while Gotham burns.
[*]Crack skulls with combat so fluid it feels like you're starring in your own action movie.
Combat
Punch, counter, punch again. It’s a ballet of violence, but instead of fancy footwork, it’s fancy face-punching. Every hit feels satisfying, and somehow, you’re always the coolest guy in the room – even surrounded by 20 dudes with bats.
Gotham City
The city is dark, atmospheric, and filled with thugs who ALL magically know martial arts. You can’t take three steps without bumping into a gang that apparently graduated from the League of Shadows School of Street Fighting.
DLC Highlights
Harley Quinn's Revenge:
Think Harley is done with you? Nope. This DLC is like she texted you at 3 AM saying, “Come over, we need to talk,” except her idea of talking involves henchmen and explosives. Bonus: you play as Robin, who tries REALLY hard to be cool, but let’s face it—he doesn’t even have a cape.
Catwoman Episodes:
Playing as Catwoman is like switching from detective mode to "steal everything that isn’t nailed down" mode. You’re faster, sneakier, and let’s be honest – you’ll spend 80% of the time enjoying her dramatic walk animations.
Conclusion
Batman: Arkham City is the ultimate superhero simulator. You’ll save Gotham, break jaws, and question your sanity while hunting down hundreds of trophies. It’s dark, it’s epic, and it’s absolutely worth it – even if you end up spending more time solving puzzles than fighting villains.
A must-play for any old-school DC fanboy like myself.
Also the best game Rocksteady has ever released.
This Game is one of the best Batman Games i have ever played.Buying this game was worth it
best batman game story wise imo this game is super fun and i loved all the side quests. riddler trophies actually felt like a lot of fun in this game especially. disappointing there wasnt a bane fight but this game definitely has other bangers
honestly the open world is boring compared to others in this series. the only save for it is the ridder trophies and the side quests. otherwise its barren and boring
The greatest super hero game and it isn't even close. Yeah web slinging around a city sweet, but the story and use of Batman villains is superb in comparison.
I'll level with you. I'm not a comics fan, I don't like capeshit, I would go back in time and shoot Stan Lee as a baby just to be free of it. Batman is one of the only superheroes I can stomach. So you should absolutely listen to me when even I say this game is an all-time classic. It's absolutely fantastic and worthy of all the praise its received over the past decade. One of my favourite open world maps, it sacrifices size for detail, its small and intimate and you'll get to know every part of the city by the end. Gameplay is a mix of brawler beat em' up combat and stealth sections against enemies with guns. The combat isn't complex but it's fun and it has enough depth to not be a mindless button masher. It's so good every open world game since this game came out ripped it off, and none of them ever did it as well. But why I really, REALLY love is the stealth sections. Those are the part that make the game unique to me. Planning ambushes, isolating guards, watching them all panic and freak the fuck out as Batman picks them off one by one. It's fan-fucking-tastic and I've never seen any other game replicate the same feeling.
My only complaint really is that Two-Face gets underused, which annoys me because he's one of my favourite Batman villains.
Great game that builds on the previous entry in the series. The story is great and the new open world area is fun. If your a batman fan you will love this game.
Batman: Arkham City takes everything great about Arkham Asylum and expands it into an open-world masterpiece. The Freeflow combat system is as satisfying as ever, and the story is rich with memorable moments. With the HD Texture Pack, the visuals look stunning even today.
even though its old it is still a very good and very fun game 10/10
Somehow improves from Asylum, City is open to explore as batman flying around and it is awesome. I played this after 100%ing Asylum, and started this series with Knight; I absolutely love this game and outside of the map design being a weird upside u shape that does connect to be almost like a donut but you cant fly through it and it makes it a struggle. The Riddler is at his most annoying here with repetitive trophies both in that the same puzzle is used in different sections of this same game, and in that puzzles from Asylum are copied and pasted sometimes into City. Outside of those nitpicks, I loved this game and everything it did for this series. Easy addition to anyone’s Must-Play lists
nice game even though i am playing it after a long time its better than most games that are available nowadays
Great story, vivid aesthetic, diverse content, lots of opportunity for replay.
If you liked Arkham Asylum, you're guaranteed to like Arkham City. This game is pretty much like the first one but bigger in every way. You even get to play as other characters besides Batman, though they're mostly confined to the Riddler's challenges (of which there are way too many in my opinion).
If you're having issues with loading the game on Windows 10 (nothing happens after clicking Play), try turning off 'force randomization for images' for the game's exe under Windows Defender exploit protection.
Detailed steps:
- Open Defender, go to app and browser control> exploit protection settings> program settings> add program to customize> add BatmanAC.exe
- Scroll down to 'force randomization for images'> override> turn off
- If you don't know the file path of the exe, right click the game in your Steam library> manage> go to local files. From there, it's under Binaries> Win32
There are mentions of this on the game's forums as well if you'd like to check there. Happy gaming!
I've played this for enough time to tell you I liked it and would recommend, especially if you are a fan of Batman and friends. I'm not a huge fan of the comic but I enjoy the gameplay, hold the hate. I have the whole series and I like them all but I especially like this one for the combat mechanics and all the stuff to find and see. If you can find them on a deep sale buy them all!
Great game. It has ZERO retarded steam moderators in the game. 10/10
Going to be honest
I though the world was meh as with the prison in the middle it was kinda annoying to glide
but able to play between to characters was based and the story was cool
batman with a sword? Yes
7/10
Fun, sometimes the combat gets annoying with how inconsistent the counter time window works, but it could just be the game showing its age or the fact that my dumb ass played it on hard for no good reason. Don't do that cause some fights will just frustrate you too much and you can't change the difficulty for a save. There's no achievement for beating it on hard and new game plus automatically takes the difficulty for your normal playthrough (unless you like a painful challenge). Story is great, but riddler trophies are literally the worst thing ever put in a video game (at least the shear amount of them is insane)
Not that good I really like to play this game but this part is not that worth it to play the last part was very much good and I will rather play That
Im going to be honest, this game is one of the most overrated games i have ever played if your saying batman arkham city can solo all 3 spider-man games GET OUT The combat system is so dull strike, counter, stun and i hate how they added into the story the "LEAGUE OF ASSAINSS" LIKE WTF IS THAT im sorry but i generally just dont like this game i'd prefer batman arkham orgins over this
Very good evolution from the previous game. PhysX is incredibly buggy though, best to turn it off even with high end parts.
After playing through Asylum, I knew I missed out on some great games, and this one, this is one of my favorite games ever, I was hooked start to finish, and the combat is such an improvement too. This should be the standard for how games are made. Not that it's perfect, but it 100% is worth revisting after all these years and sinking hours into. Fucking phenomenal game Rocksteady, thanks for that.
i don't know why but this game is the weakest one for me and i will explain myself in a minute
but even though i said this game was the weakest one (for me) this game is still GREAT a must play
joker has the best performance int his one, this one has the best bossfights, this game has the best ending to a game, this game is the best image of a batman game, realistic but not too much of it
the reason why i think this game is the weakest one is because one of the villains is not that good, hugo strange is nothing special, his thing is that he has all of the control in arkham city. then again he is not that bad but compared to scarecrow or joker he is not that good
i accept that this game is the best but for me it's not the best of arkham, though still great 8/10
Fantastic game. Arguably my favorite of the Batman Arkham games. Much larger environment than the first game and the combat has gotten an excellent makeover from the first game.
So what can i say about the sequel to one of the best games ever.... that it should also be in everyones top ten. To save up space though i just put the arkham series as a franchise in my top ten as one... cause honestly i couldnt pick one above the other. Sure this game and arkham knight add more gadgets, more enemies and more moves... but i kindy love the simplicity of the first game. So yes... there are more moves and gadgets in this game... and thankfully they start you off with all of the moves from the last one you just gotta upgrade to get the rest. And it is a fun journey to get them. You will not just be dealing with joker this time around. The main story takes you on a journey where you meet plenty of batmans enemies along the way to help along the main story. There is also plenty collectibles, puzzles and riddles along the way... and as the map is much bigger there are way more of them. They also add little parts where you play as catwoman to... and those arereally fun. So all in all if you liked the first game... and how cant you... you will love the second game just as much.
yours truly god gamer
9.2/10 - Story and environment is great. Interacting with and being able to take down multiple villains while there is still the overarching story is quite cool. Game itself looks really good, holds up decent in 2024 (year I perfect gamed it). The large map with multiple sectors with the open world side quests has got to be the best part of the entire game no doubt.
Riddler's Revenge gets a 0/10. After doing the 'Revenge' with each character, having to do the boring ass 'CAMPAIGNS' and its modifiers felt lazy and tedious to do (and I had to complete all of them for Perfect Game). It was just repeated maps with some random BS to annoy you just that little bit more. Would've been happier if they only had Revenge and left out Campaigns.
this game has arguably the best STORY out of any superhero game, the side quest, the final boss , everything is PERFECT
Yeah it's pretty good. love the Jonkler he's the best character. Man really sucked.
This game set the standard of direct video game sequels by which all are measured. It felt like the natural progression of events since Arkham Asylum, and the gameplay and world were greatly improved upon, and the story wasn't bad either. Was it as good as Arkham Asylum's? Of course not, but it was way better than anyone ever expected it to be. It was still pretty good. If you liked Arkham Asylum, you'll love Arkham City. If you haven't played Arkham Asylum, maybe pick that one up first.
This is a masterpiece, the best in the trilogy, story is almost Nolan level. If this isn't in my top 3, then IDK what is.
I was impressed how much of an upgrade this game is from the original. It really upped its game. My main gripe in Asylum was the lack of enemy variety and super repetetive boss fights. This game completely fixes that. It makes great use of Batman's rogue's gallery, and the boss fights have a lot of variety. Honestly I wasn't expecting it to be quite so good. I may try for the rest of the Riddler trophies, but I haven't decided yet.
was a pretty smooth experience with a gamepad, a bit more variety of tools and combos, and also the catwoman side of the story made the game goated. 9/10
A very good game. Makes you really feel like batman. Combat mechanics world class. Boss fights are amazing
this game is the best in the series, no negatives to this game, unless we are talking about the Riddler trophes
Batman: Arkham City is a game that effortlessly stands the test of time, even in 2024. From its gameplay mechanics to its visual design, it delivers an experience that is as exhilarating today as it was upon release.
Gameplay Mechanics
The combat system is where this game truly shines. Every punch, counter, and gadget strike lands with a visceral impact that makes you feel like you're right there in the action. When Batman's iron fists connect with a criminal's face, you almost feel bad for the guy on the receiving end (but not really). The Freeflow Combat system is fluid and intuitive, ensuring every fight feels like a cinematic brawl straight out of a comic book.
Graphics and Visuals
Even by modern standards, the graphics hold up remarkably well. The dark, gritty atmosphere of Arkham City immerses you in Gotham's bleak underbelly, while the character models still look fantastic. Let’s not dance around it: the female character models are total eye candy. Whether it’s Catwoman’s sleek agility or Talia al Ghul’s striking elegance, the attention to detail (wink) is a refreshing change in an era that sometimes forgets that artistic freedom makes the best designs.
Storyline and Cutscenes
The storyline and cutscenes in Arkham City are nothing short of phenomenal, surpassing even the best Batman movies. The narrative weaves together an intense and emotional journey that explores the depths of Batman's character and his rogues' gallery. The voice acting by Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (Joker) brings unparalleled depth, making every interaction feel gripping and meaningful. Whether it's the Joker's chaotic schemes, Mr. Freeze's tragic quest, or the ultimate showdown that ends with the Joker's shocking death, the story hits emotional beats that no live-action Batman film has managed to achieve.
Playing as Batman
Walking around as Batman, with his broad shoulders, powerful presence, and unwavering masculinity, is a stark reminder of what a true hero embodies. To quote the meme "got to hit the gym" let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to be as built as the Dark Knight?
Timeless Appeal
What truly sets Arkham City apart is its ability to balance all these elements seamlessly. Whether it’s the thrill of taking down thugs, solving Riddler’s intricate puzzles, or just grappling across the city skyline, every aspect of the game feels meticulously crafted.
Reviewed for Steam Deck
Stability: 10/10
The only reason this game is listed as Playable instead of Verified is for the setup process. When you first launch the game, you'll need to use the touchscreen or custom trackpad controls to get it running (not difficult at all). After that, the game runs smoothly. I had no bugs or crashes throughout my playthrough.
Gameplay: 10/10
Arkham City has the same foundation for gameplay as Arkham Asylum. However, this game "fills the gaps" that its predecessor left. The combat feels smoother and there's a few more combos/gadgets to use. The detective mode has also been utilized a bit more (with investigations feeling a little more just like that, investigations rather than quest markers). The game also allows you to play as catwoman at points. While her story arc isn't long and her kit isn't abundant, the gameplay is still fun and distinct. Playing on hard mode will give Arkham veterans a moderate challenge (but nothing too frustrating).
Playtime/Replayability: 8/10
This is a moderately long game, at least 10 hours for just the main story. If you're a completionist, this adds several more hours with numerous side missions, collectibles, and challenges to do. Although the storyline is linear and requires only one playthrough, there is a new game plus mdoe that adds a bit more difficulty. There's also a DLC campaign to explore (Harley Quinn's Revenge) and plenty of challenge maps (Riddler's Revenge).
Story/World: 10/10
Arkham City's story follows the events of Arkham City. Without giving too much detail, Batman must fight through Arkham City and many of his rogue's gallery to save the city. There's plenty of action and plot twists to keep you guessing and a stellar cast of villains. The world is set in a portion of Gotham City. Even if it is just a portion, the map doesn't feel constricting and there's plenty of details to keep you immersed. The aesthetics succeed in making you feel you're in a post-disaster Gotham.
Audio/Visual: 8/10
Being over a decade old, don't expect top-of-the-line graphics. However, it still holds up decently. On max settings, I was able to run the game at a smooth 60 fps. The main time the game showed its faults was with draw distance (viewing characters at a distance would merely be a blur). The voice acting (as with the first game) is still phenomenal. All of this heroes, villains, and even the thugs give a worthy performance. The soundtrack continues to give the immersion between the feelings of an epic action film and a suspenseful investigation.
Overall: 10/10
In my opinion, this is the gold standard for what a Batman game, let alone a comic hero game, should be. It easily fits in my top ten favorite games. The gameplay makes you feel powerful, yet kept on your toes. The story, acting, and world all make you feel like the Dark Knight patrolling his city. If you're a Batman fan, or an action game fan, get this game. It's well worth the price and the time and it plays quite well on the Steam Deck.
Liked it very much. The predecessor was slightly better in an atmospheric kinda way, but in this you are able to spice things up with playing Catwomen and Robin. Riddlers riddles were awesome!
At first I felt overwhelmed by the game, but after playing mission after mission it all started to come together. A great story, the ability to play other characters and even my arch enemies having depth of character, the many gadgets to master and fluid gameplay mechanics made this so much fun.
I really need Arkham City (the intense, open-world setting where Batman fights villains across Gotham’s walled-off district) by the end of the day before I even ask for it. It was nice to be honest with Batman (Gotham’s iconic hero, battling to keep his city safe from criminals) and the Joker (his ultimate nemesis, a chaotic force who’s always stirring up trouble), and I think I’ve been vigilant with them for a solid number of years. I’ve been feeling a little stronger now, vigilantly working with heroes (just like Batman does with his allies), going to Gotham (the dangerous and gritty city that Batman dedicates himself to protecting). 🦇🎸❤️
Goodbye to the people who hate my vigilante work (vigilantes are those who take justice into their own hands, much like Batman). I love being a crime-fighting professional (much like Batman, who devotes himself to stopping crime in Gotham) and working alongside my Robin (Robin is Batman’s loyal sidekick, often helping him take on Gotham’s worst villains). I hope you have an amazing night tonight (nighttime is when Batman usually operates under the cover of darkness), and thanks again.
I look like batarangs (batarangs are Batman’s signature throwing weapons, shaped like bats)—just look like batarangs, just look like batarangs, just a few inches. 🖤💙😊💜😀💖🖤💙 A few allies in my circle (Batman has allies like Commissioner Gordon, Oracle, and Catwoman who assist him in his mission to protect Gotham) 🖤💙😊, and I have to wait ✋️❤️ to get the rest at the same time and get the money 💰🤑💸❤️. I have to go out and pay 🖤😊💙 for my Gotham birthday (imagine celebrating a birthday in Gotham—gritty and atmospheric, just like the game!), so I’ll have a nice time ⏲️😊🖤💙 with birthday cake for the next few days.
We’ve had the right to be mean to me, and the only benefits I get are prioritized mission declines (in the game, missions often pop up, and Batman has to prioritize which ones to tackle first). I have no idea what to pay with the WayneTech deposit (WayneTech is Batman’s high-tech company, providing gadgets like the Batsuit, Batmobile, and more), or if it's just a bit frightening for the next mission cycle (missions in Arkham City keep coming, so it’s like a never-ending cycle of battling crime).
Last night, I woke up this morning to find out they had told us about the fire training in Arkham today (fire and chaos are constant themes in Arkham, and emergency drills would be critical). I hope you have an amazing night and find a good way to fight now (fighting is central to Batman’s mission, and the game is all about combat mastery). Too much adrenaline (the game is packed with intense action, giving players an adrenaline rush), but I’d love to see you again in the morning. I’m sure you can handle it before it’s too late.
A bit more than my current Gotham situation (the game sets players in the heart of Gotham, dealing with endless crime), one of the three of us missions is the next day, and we are covered for any potential rushes or heists we may be part of as a team (Batman often has to anticipate heists or rush to missions with allies). We’ve had a few allies involved, and I’ll be okay with the JLA team leader (JLA or Justice League of America is a team Batman joins to fight larger threats alongside other heroes like Superman). 😊😀🖤💙😉
A pretty nice sequel. I really like the league of assassins but the overall gameplay was not so much to my liking. It was just plainly nice. The story and the charaters like Mr. Freeze, Solomon Grundy and Clayface are pretty cool, but the Riddler extent and the randomisation of the side quest was pretty anoying, even though i really liked the riddler collis, but over 400 is just too much. A pretty nice sequel. I can recommend it
Great game. If you like Arkham Asylum then probably you would love this game as well.
There's great improvement in story and combat. Side missions can be challenging for some, you may need to be more creative or get help on the internet.
Other then main story, Riddler campaign and challenge part is almost same for all characters, which is quite repetitive and frustrating.
4/5
Such a fun game, Batman has always been one of my favorites I love the story line and re-visiting the characters is the best!!
