Very fun game to play. Had to find workarounds to even get it started and then had to limit the CPU at one point. Other than that the game runs like a charm.

Just doesn't want to properly run on newer operation systems, don't bother. A shame because otherwise it's good and fun.

Fantastic game, terrible port. Even downloading patches modders have put out and forcing it to run on a single CPU core didn't prevent the game from crashing too often for me. A real shame.

Better than the first Prototype but still trash

Its a great game but in its current state you need to download a mod of nexus to get it to launch. Its also worth noting to pass one of the first missions you need to set your pc to use one core. I played on the ally x and set it to use 17w in perfomance mode and that of course limits cpu usage and has the same effect. All in all its worth the trouble and the game holds up to modern standards.

This games struggles on newer computers. It was made for single core so it has a few glitches when playing multi core, And even crashes on startup if not set properly. You might have to install some patch mod from Nexus, or set affinity manually to less cores. But as long as you can get past making it run, it's an amazing game.

SO MUCH BETTER than the first one. Graphics are mostly okay. The story is meh. If you want it, get it on sale though: it's often sold for 7.50€, donc get Activisionned by buying it full price.

Fun game, definitely a step up from the first one in terms of gameplay. Unfortunately it's straight up broken. You have to mod it for it to even launch. (https://www.nexusmods.com/prototype2/mods/42). Also there are mission blockers that require you to open task manager then set prototype2 affinity to cpu0 only (which fixes the bug in operation flytrap but kills off your framerate, so remember to undo it)

Its a shame the main focus of the game is the terrible port, because its really fun once its fixed. I just wish it didnt have so many long black and white cutscenes that basically show nothing. Just let do the fun part dammit

Great game, combat locks you in and has a soul-like kind of feel. There is inertia so it feels like you have weight even though you can jump and run at super human speed.

The camera can be a little wonky here and there along with the lock-on system but all in all it's a great game with a great story. Lots of swearing and gore.

I wouldn't recommend for 50 dollars since it is older and dated but picking it up on sale for 10-15 bucks was decent, for about a 20 hour play through.

Let me start I love this game, this is a very fun game and I played it very long ago. I do recommend this game.
The problem? This game does not work now. I had to battle the game to get it to launch, had to end up using a mod. Then during the fifth mission, the game just exploded. It would crash every time I tried to keep going on the campaign.
So do not buy this game unless you are ready for that. And even if you are ready, it may or may not work.

Great game: fantastic twist on the open world formula, fun protagonist, great traversal mechanics, fun (albeit mashy) combat mechanics, pure power fantasy enjoyment, great sense of humor in the upgrade tree etc. The closest to a "Carnage" game/series we're ever going to get.

Prototype 1 was a more raw, sandboxy kind of game. It was fantastic, but it was also very jank and leaned heavily on emergent gameplay to give the player their kicks.

Prototype 2 is all grown up. The sandbox elements from the first are there but the foundation of the game, but the side missions and missions are definitely better constructed, the world is better segmented and realized, everything is a bit more structured and clean.

Also, the fact that the collectibles map has a ping/general location for all the collectibles should be a standard feature on all open world games. It doesn't tell you exactly where everything is, but it tells you to search a general area and its just great. Makes collectibles more of a hide and seek than an absolute chore.

Game comes highly recommended as far as I'm concerned. Also, no/zero technical issues on my 5600X/980Ti machine, even though Steam reviews make it sound like the game is completely broken and doesn't work.

SOMEONE thought crossing Hulk's rage with Carnage's bloody-tendril based power-set would be fun...and holy dismemberment they were 100% right! This game is meaty, bloody, stompy glory, with moments of quiet as you stealth-absorb people to wear their identities or walk around the beautifully realised open world city. Your goal is to drink the exploding red viscera of your enemies for their power and memories that help you fight an evil military organisation bent on, idk, killing people for profit and giggles? The game throws a lot of plot and people's names at you in quick succession through really annoying rapid-cut cut-scenes but for a game like this plot hardly matters when the juicy, gory human-plus combat thrills are such a Fun Time. :)

Some notes before you buy: read other comments re: bugs. It's a bit glitchy on modern systems: use the workarounds. But I've been playing smoothly on Linux with only the one crash in 9 hours played.

[PROTOTYPE2] vastly improves in combat fighting & graphics compared to the first game, with an all-new protagonist named Sgt. James Heller. Heller is a great addition to the canon [PROTOTYPE] universe and I'm fine with that, the more [PROTOTYPE] characters I can play as other than Alex Mercer is nice, However James Heller, as a character & the story of the game itself could be written better, Heller just being an angry guy 24/7 who cusses every 5 seconds in specific circumstance that's not even that extreme can be too overreacting, if they want us to sympathize with him on what he's going through with the his loss of his family I'd say write him better & make him believable. I never really understood why Radical Entertainment took a different approach for the sequel because in the first [PROTOTYPE] game without spoiling too much for those who haven't played the first game yet, setup a great potential second game for Alex Mercer's next journey with Pariah, a potential antagonist that's been mentioned time & time again in Prototype 1's Web of intrigue. Instead, they completely pulled a 180 on Alex Mercer's Anti-Hero character as a whole in favor for a villain role & with a new protagonist James Heller. Honestly, I felt like it was too soon to switch characters already after just one game with Mercer. I wouldn't mind James Heller at all, just a few games with Alex Mercer maybe a trilogy with him then move on & introduce us to James Heller maybe between Alex's & Pariah's conflict. Perhaps another good setup for James' motivation & origins of his powers I don't know.

Gameplay is good, but the one thing I miss a lot is the crazy mobility you could do in the first Prototype game, you could move so much faster & pull all kinds of crazy tricks midair & parkour on the streets or rooftops of New York City backflipping while still retaining your momentum. Here in Prototype 2 it's been reduced, you feel more of a tank which I think that's what Radical wanted for James Heller to distinguish him from Alex Mercer as each character's powers are unique. Combat wise is great, you can now parry & dodge enemy attacks that you couldn't do in the first game & it's very rewarding when countering them follow by a good clean slice to their limbs.

Open world is great and gorgeous to look at in free roam, detailed environments around you, & each map has their own unique characteristics: the Green Zone, the Yellow Zone, & the Red Zone. The Green Zone being my personal favorite, though the maps can feel small at times for someone like James who could run at high speed but still nice to just stroll around the city taking in the scenery. No Day & Night cycle this time, but I do appreciate that every time you load into a map the setting is different, you get nighttime mixed with rain, morning sunrise with rain, daytime, sunset, & best of all a gloomy rainy weather you can only get in the Green Zone... used to listen to Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood just running around the Green Zone when it's gloomy... good times man.

Another I should mention is that this version of [PROTOTYPE2] on PC is the 7th Gen XBOX 360 Version & not the 8th Gen Biohazard Bundle that was Re-released for the PS4 & XBOX ONE. As for the Radnet content half of them has been cut from the PC Version unfortunately, you only get two playable skins, the default James Heller & the Alex Mercer skin that you unlock for completing Radnet challenges. Force Multipliers has been completely cut but all the Pre-Order incentives bonuses are available.

Overall [PROTOTYPE2] is a fun power fantasy game, but it could be better! Still a shame what happened to the developers Radical Entertainment though. Hope one day the IP makes a return in the hands of a passionate developer who could do this series with so much potential justice.

I read the comics why Mercer went full antagonist prior [PROTOTYPE2] but I still don't buy that's what drove Alex to spread the virus in New York City. Oh well it is what it is, game's still pretty fun though, unleash God-like powers!

A solid 7 out of 10.

1. Visual design and concept is superb
2. You can bully an NPC who's voiced by Moxie's Voice Actor from Helluva boss
3. Wish they found a way to continue the story; perhaps at least remaster the first game
4. Storyline is decent
5. Cutscenes are definitely a product of it's time, but still good regardless
6. The game keeps throwing in something fresh such as new enemies, abilities, mission types to keep things interesting

READ IF YOU HAVE A STEAM DECK SYSTEM
If you happen to get stuck on the "Flytrap Level" hit the three dot button on your right panel and adjust your fps to 30fps. This fixed the level for me. I like this game but the bugs definitely suck!

Very fun game that still holds up in 2025. Be aware that there is a bug that has not been patched that requires you to change your CPU affinity for 1 objective in 1 mission that will stop you from progression unless you know the fix.

A more polished version of the first Prototype.
Only complaint is many story plots getting dropped from the first game and getting less challenges.

highly recommend prototype2fix if you wanna play the game. otherwise it's ballsy

one of my childhood favourites, nothing short of an amazing old gen game. very few bugs (in my experience of 100%ing) i got a crash fix via nexus mods if anyone wishes to pick this or the first up.

every single thing the original PROTOTYPE does, this one does 110% better. gets running smooth on modern systems with fixes that are easily available on the pc gaming wiki. the combat is smooth, free flowing, and fun. much more clean than the original PROTOTYPE. honestly, you could simply skip the original and play this one singly, if you wanted.

I played Prototype 2 since its release back in 2012 on my Xbox 360, and it was always part of my rotation of about five other games. For one reason or another, this game has just stuck with me.

Whether it be the interesting premise of the world, the nice free movement, or the wide sandbox given. For the longest time, I wanted to play the game over again.

So once I got a PC I decided to play it all over again. I had a hiccup playing the game at first, with constant crashes before the game would load. The issue ended up being the fact that my CPU had more than 4 cores, go figure.

Good game, pretty close to the first prototype game, although I much preferred the older version of obtaining upgrades.

definitely improved compared to the first game- story, dialogue, gameplay- the whole thing, even the port is better! if you liked the first, this is a 100% grab.

Played and finished this game before on my friend's laptop, had alot of fun. Replaying this again on my PC, still a lot of fun but this game requires a mod/patch from NexusMods to fix the cpu cores issues.
