Interesting game, great artwork, has dragons, boss battles and is real fun.
The game has positives and negatives, but to me, it nets negative.
The game is cute to look at, and the music is pretty good. A couple of the boss fights are pretty interesting and fun to play.
Buuuuuuut... the level designs are not great. There is very little variation in the obstacles you face and the platforming doesn't feel complete. There are blind falls in some levels, and even with a float mechanic, it's still not good design having to guess if you can land somewhere or not.
The has a couple of decent boss fights, but the final boss is very poorly done. He has undodgeable attacks, which force you to take damage in some situations. I was able to make it through the rest of the game without leveling up my Dragon. The final boss though cannot be defeated (reasonably) by a dragon with no HP or damage output powerups because of the unavoidable attacks from the boss. This forced me to replay levels to grind gold to get upgrades. Very disappointing.
Pros: cute art style, some funny moments, very good music
Cons: sub-par platforming, repetitive levels, unavoidable attacks
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a decent game where you can play as a dragon?
After literal years of searching, I finally reached this little game, in which you can play as a dragon without having to watch your beloved dragons be completely screwed by a dark and gloomy story and hopeless world.
It's lighthearted, it doesn't take itself too seriously, it's not excruciatingly difficult but not a total cakewalk, and it's FUN.
Recommended for everyone who feels like bashing their head against the wall in frustration every time they pick up a dragon-themed game and just have to watch dragons die with no alternatives. This one ain't like that, it's nice.
If you are a child or new to gaming and you want something that looks cute, this is definitely a decent choice... That isn't most people here. I can understand how hand drawing the art can be time consuming, and it looks like a lot of effort was put into this, so I don't have it in me to give them negative marks because they did a decent job, it's just incredibly simple.

I think this should be marketed to children and I would rate that a 7/10
This game was cute. The gameplay was what I wanted and there are plenty of goodies to find throughout the world. The bosses can be challenging. You can level up Dragon. And of course I found the art endearing and fitting for the story.
My only complaints are:
can't attack in the air
No hints on where to obtain certain breaths or hints when to use different breaths.
Also, i should note my experience was with a controller and i've heard the keyboard controls are less than ideal.
Bit of a disclaimer: Yeah, you have the whole thing with my steam name relaying some "dragon" character, and its influence in purchasing this game. However, that serves no influence on this review and must not be factored in. I'm being neutral here, so it's only fair if you are too. I bring this up because I've had some folks actually go after me for that. /shrug
A tl;dr
I'm an independent game developer myself, and I have respect for the main guy behind this game. It's a well made game for one person that has its share of stupid-funny jokes, but it isn't an Undertale in that it doesn't shove crap down your throat 24/7. It's a fun game that takes on after the older style of games (like Super Mario Bros 3) while sustaining a modern playstyle that fits the environment nicely. If you like simple, small-scale games that you can play a couple of times and be done with while having a bit of fun, this one's for you.
Review in detail
So, what do I like about this game?
- The artstyle, although simple (It was actually drawn with crayons), is cohesive to the way the game plays. It fits. It doesn't feel like the creator just wedged it in there because he couldn't get better graphics, and hey - it's a step away from the norm of just using pixel art.
- The story is kinda funny. It has some really cheesy jokes tied into it and it's enough to crack a chuckle. Or make you disgruntled. Depends on the kinda person you are.
- Good challenge, but not complete hell. The final battle was a bit tough, but I went back to previous levels to get the powerups (They are normally blocked with some challenge, and some rely on you coming back later) and it was definitely much easier.
- Makes good use of old retro games' styles all while being its own game.
What do I dislike about this game?
- In relation to functionality? Very little. I kinda dislike some of the mechanics and hitboxes but otherwise it's certainly tolerable and has no hinderance on playing the game.
- Difficulty is really inconsistent at times. Some levels are a breeze while others in the same stratum are difficult. It's all over the place.
Aside from that, I think it's definitely worth the dirt cheap price especially if you're the kind of person who has fun with games you'll play maybe once or twice before being done with it.
"Dragon: A Game About a dragon" has a certain level of charm and the art all stays pretty well to its own style. Even though it isn't graphically like other games I still wanna say this has good graphics to it. Though its best points are the story and humor to the game. It has some gameplay elements but it looks clear to not be the focus. Enemies and bosses will at times have weaknesses but its all pretty simple. There does seem to be an awareness of its general quality with it being a five dollar game and all. All in all you could do much worse in a variety of ways when it comes to looking for a game to buy.
I wanted to like this game, I really did. I enjoyed the graphics. I love dragons. I'm a fan of platformers. BUT this one plays so poorly that I just couldn't be bothered to continue on with it after a few levels. It was tedious to play through, and there wasn't much variety there. Just the same few things over and over, and none of it was very fun. The first boss had an attack that if it was dodgeable, I couldn't figure out how, and it would kill you if he used it twice. That pretty much ended the game for me there, though I did ultimately beat him after a few tries when he finally didn't use that attack at all and then played another level or two. But it was just bad gameplay design for a platformer and I didn't want to waste my time.
I want to like this. The whole aesthetic is adorable and the music is decent. The breath powers and upgrades are fun to mess around with and I love the fact that the dragon has a little D&D character sheet for himself.
However, most of the combat is just finding what breath the enemy isn't immune to and using that, or just jumping right over everything. Most of the bosses have an undodgeable attack and/or are autoscrollers. I think this could be a fun game, but the mechanics need a serious overhaul.
I like original games. The graphics are well done for a paper style, very creative.
The story however was boring for me, and the game play is easy.
If this game wouldn't have the unique paper style, I probably woundn't like it.

Given that rating, it may seem like I didn't really enjoy the game, when in fact I truly did. The art is something different, the writing has some funny moments, and the story is intact. It was a fun experience and I would easily recommend the game, especially on sale. It was a lot of fun to play with the gf on the couch next to me commenting on all the cuteness and murder dolphins.
So why the 7.5/10? I just feel like a little more would have solved a lot of the downsides I experienced.
The good:
- Unique art style
- Solid story line
- Not terribly difficult
- For the price, especially on sale, it is very worth it
The fine:
- The writing has its ups and downs
- The variety of weapons and scenery destinations
- It does get a bit redundant if you can't progress
The bad: (list is essentially a few "bad for some, not for all" items)
- Gotta use a controller (I prefer that, but know some people are M&K people)
- A lot of things you take for granted in RPG type games was missing. Health bars on enemies, how your attributes go up, what the weapons do and don't do, etc. (For the demographic and game itself, a little hand-holding was expected)
- Animation is a bit wanting, even for the art style of the game.
I say go for it if you, like me:
- like dragons in general
- are after a fun little RPG experience
- want something a bit different than the "same old thing"
- get it on sale
A casual Demon's Crest, basically. A lot of fun to play. It has a good amount of stuff to collect. It also has insane levels of charm. You'll love all the characters. Best Ending should only take you around 2-4 hours probably, but they were a really enjoyable 2-4 hours for me.
It's a really cute and silly game about a dragon. It has platforming and a ridiculous story. I'd say it's worth it, especially if it's on sale. The default keyboard controls are pretty wonky, but using a controller rescued it for me. X360 controller worked straight off and had a much more usable control scheme.
A win if you like dragons, platforming, and cute / lighthearted games.
This a cute lil' side scrolling adventure about a Dragon trying to get his girlfriend back. It's not serious in the slightest and filled with humor, and the artist style is drawn like a child's story book, which only adds to the charm.
A game where you can play as a dragon..is pretty cool. The art style is also pretty good.
I really like the fact there are secrets hidden in the game and the art crayon style is quite whimsicle. Quite a few levels and boss fights too..note that the game is a side scroller like a platformer, but considering your a dragon, that should not bother you..
Anyways, i recommend this game for being able to play as a dragon and the artistic style of the game itself.
A cute game with pleasant music. The art is mostly quite nice (though I find the leaps in quality between the background, basic enemies, and the dragon/bosses a little inconsistent.) With decent cute humor.
And thats about all I can say nice about it?
Technically while I never experienced any crashes, the game doesnt even support fullscreen 1080 (playing games in a window bugs the hell out of me.)
The gameplay is...boring? The dragons jumping is very floaty and slow, which if you are too close to certain attacks, makes it impossible to dodge. The metroidvania style "come back with another ability" secrets are just annoying in my opinion, the game itself isnt a metroidvania, and it makes that just a chore to do, especially when its completely unclear if your current abilities have a effect.
The boss battles are really what seal the deal on my "Not recomended" though. I would describe at least one of them as outright unfair. In a fight with two robot men, they have attacks that can be performed without warning (a flame jet attack, and a teleport attack in particular.) As dragon lacks a dodge ability, if the flame jet begins in the wrong spot, you are eating the hit. The teleport attack is even cheaper, ive found no discernable pattern to it other than "jump around and he will probably teleport in the wrong spot" but sometimes he teleports INSIDE me and does damage. The fight then goes from dodging attacks until they are vulnerable, to a DPS race where winning is achieved by farming coins and investing in defense. (Offense being seemingly all but worthless to the bosses from what ive seen.)
The levels themselves are just annoying, the game encourages getting as much coinage as you can, achieved by killing enemies, however many enemies are placed on platforms only they can fit on, and dragon cant even damage enemies when he is too close to them, nor does he have a jumping attack, or proper ranged attacks. I wonder what the point of the slash attack even is, as it takes great effort to run out of breath attack.
I really cant recomend this game, even for a very modest 5$ The author has potential, and could do better assuming they learn from this experience and grow as a designer, but this game certainly screams "my first game" to me. The art and music bring it above all the 1$ shovelware flooding steam, but the gameplay does not.
Sadly, part of what makes a game is the support, and this game has none. Repeated request by multiple users to fix bugs assosiated with starting the game have gone entirely ignored. I would love to give a good review here, but an ignored and frankly unplayable game can't get that. Fair warning, try this the moment you buy it and be prepared to demand a refund.
Nothing against the game, just a developer who can't be bothered to fix it.

This is a game which is firmly mediocre but shoots for the stars. A lot of really neat ideas are in here, but the execution is lacking. Or horrendously buggy. One of those two. DO NOT assume I am calling the game crap, but I don't really recommend it in the state that it was in as I played it.
The hand-drawn/crayon-style art is really, really inconsistent. On some stages (the air force base comes to mind), the whole thing gels really well and you get a unique appearance that I can't think of a good comparison for. On others (pretty much any kind of indoor stage), it is horrendous as at least one layer of scrolling is nothing but [solid color on uneven construction paper scan]. The sprites themselves don't seem to follow any real guidelines either, and in a few cases it's really challenging to determine what's foreground, enemy, or just random detail.
I'm gonna spin out of that into what is probably one of the game's worst levels, spent climbing a massive tree. It's the perfect example of the game's myriad flaws in one place: Ranged enemies can fire at you from offscreen with no visual cue to their existence, with you having absolutely no way to know they exist until an arrow/cymbal/etc. flies into you mid-leap. Incredibly tight platforming with controls not meant for it (one in particular is either something I was either doing wrong, or demanded surprising precision from you for a game with such floatiness of movement). Enemies who have suspiciously large hitboxes, resulting in cheap hits when you try getting near to attack them*. Objects which appear to be part of the background, but in fact cause damage on contact.
Even if you want to tell me I screwed up in that one, it doesn't change that the game IS poorly coded. A game with such minimal specs as this should not be having random moments of slowdown/lag on my computer. At least once, I fell through a level into the void, but did not die, leaving me to have to force-quit the game and restart, as there's no "exit level" function. The final boss is a real mess, with at least one attack being wildly inconsistent as to whether or not you can dodge it or not**, then proceeding to kill him left a booming laser sound effect playing over the entire ending, THEN the game crashed mid-credits.
Design-wise, it's also got some problems. More than once an enemy did a perfect 180 into attacking me with no tell, sometimes flipping themselves around (and bringing the already-in-progress attack) to hit me when I tried leaping past. I don't know if some animations have bugged frames, but at least a few times I just had projectiles spawn in my skull all of a sudden. Most, but not all, enemies end up in a stun animation when you attack them, leading the ones that can still move/strike you while flashing to be real nasty tricks the first time they appear. Basically, it's that inconsistency at work again - you think you know the rules it plays by until you suddenly don't.
I get it and all, the game is basically one dude's passion project with some help from friends, but it doesn't excuse the game just having huge problems. Wait for a sale, wait for a patch, just... yeah. I do not advise leaping on this game.
* In the game's defense, I probably should have used the breath weapons more around these jerks, except for the fact that more than a few enemies would just seem to be immune to them. Which was also a crapshoot.
** This is not hyperbole. Said attack is a left-to-right sky laser which you are supposed to be able to shut down by shooting a target in time. The problem is that even if you do so before the laser even shows up, the speed at which it vanishes is inconsistent as all get out, and sometimes it will vanish after covering every single inhabitable part of the screen - meaning you are guaranteed to take a hit. Someone else on the game's forums mentioned this being an issue for them too, giving me proof that at least some of this is a known quantity.
You're a nerdy dragon wearing bifocals running around a crayon scrapbook world while being attacked by marching band members with weaponized brass instruments and riot shield cops who won't stop playing with their smartphones. At the end of a level you smoke pot. Forget GTAV for PC, this is the GOTY.

Silly characters, silly dialogue, silly story, simple levels with some tough(ish) bosses..
Pretty casual platformer. 10/10 would play another one
