Pretty simple twin-stick shooter. Nice theme, good music. Not much more to say now that the game is no longer available. I only stayed to get those shiny achievements, which were simply stupid amounts of grinding.
This game would have been exceptional is the maps were more than just wallpapers.
I know that the motif of enemies spawning from every direction is part of the games difficultly schtick, but almost every death I had came from an unseen enemy at the edge of a map.
Apart from that, a great little time waster, simple twin stick survival shooter. Nice aesthetics. Funny characters. Excellent music.
Witch is my Waifu, but they are all funny.
Solid controller support, likely very low resources needed.
Be Evil. Kill other evil stuff. Unlock a tank.
8/10
Basically a flash game with some licensed songs.
Worth the low price if you like the aesthetics because it is regularly 75 cents on sales.
Played on Linux with help of proton 4.2 (4.2-7 and 4.2-9, specifically).
Death Goat is a fast-paced arcade shooter where you need to kill wave after wave of disgusting monsters until they overwhelm you and kill your character.
5 characters to choose from, 4 of which available from the beginning and 1 you'll have to unlock (and to do that, you'll have to grind for a ton of points). 4 of basic characters attack and move exactly identical, no differences in HP or attack rate either. They only differ in sprites and animations when move or dying.
When you start the game, you can choose one of three maps (all of them are open areas with no obstacles), character, and soundtrack for your battle (which will play infinitely until your character die). Each character has a pack of bombs to kill all enemies on the screen at once, 3 lives, and magic shield which live through 3 hits.
I got a few rounds and here's what I didn't like:
- Character moves too fast, and flies face first into enemies VERY often;
- There are too many enemies sometimes, and they're moving very fast too;
- Some enemies like skull spiders are hardly visible, not always you can see them in time, and when you do - they're most likely near you already, biting your back off;
- Oh, and after enemy attack you - there's not a moment of invulnerability to get some distance. If you get into the group of enemies, it's 4 hits and -1 life;
- Powerups are useful, but they're wearing off way to fast;
[*]Pickups like bombs and shield recharge are dropped rarely.
I like that the soundtrack, and I like that grumpy cat is among characters.
Word of caution: people keep saying that you need to spend dozens of hours to get all the achievements in this game, especially the last one which is for scoring 1,000,000 kills. Be adviced.
Obliterating horders of disgusting undead monsters and dying, over and over again, on my PC with following configuration:
OS: Linux 18.3 Cinnamon x64 (Sylvia)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k @ 3.30 GHz x 4;
RAM: 7.8 Gb;
GPU: ASUS NVidia GTX 1050Ti 4Gb;
GPU Driver version: 418.56.
While the music and graphics are somewhat above quality for a game this price, the gameplay is brutally repetitive and bland. There's way too many overhead shooters with far better gameplay to waste your time playing this.
I love it. Where else can you play as Death Granny or Death Kitty? Good power ups, generic death metal music, and decent graphics. Pick it up on a sale.
Passable twin-stick shooter paired with a soul crushing death metal soundtrack.
It plays pretty much like any other casual twin stick shooter though. The weapons aren't that interesting and the different characters don't have any kind of special abilities. The game doesn't do much to motivate subsequent playthroughs or effort it's simply a score rush through and through.
Shooting doesn't feel impactful and the scenery art is drab. Animations are barebones but enemies look decent and the art on the death screens are decent. For the price though, I'd recommend it if you're into the music offered here. It makes for some silly and intense shooting action to pass time for a while. Just wish the whole package had more depth to it.
I haven't played for a long period of time, but the game is so simple and small that I have seen what I need to in order to recommend it. This is the most brutal roguelike game I have ever played. It's simple... You kill gross enemies turning them into gross piles of mush. If they touch you, you die. You get powerups to kill better or live longer. And that's it. Get it on sale. If you've seen the trailer and you're interested you shouldn't be disappointed. It's fun.
What a fun game, not the most sophisticated but plays simple. It's hard to play, and I suppose like all games there must be some challenge. Love the metal. Good priced game on sale :) I just love salessssssssssssssssssssss.........oooohhhhhh yessssssssssssss
Omfg The music beats Any games soundtrack A million times over.Go To The Steam Store watch trailer , jam out and buy It. Metal Heads will Adore It.
Take away the excellent death metal selection and some solid character art, and you're left with a very simplistic and generic stick shooter. Your choice of character and map doesn't matter, it's all just a texture change. You're basically a one hit death character frantically shooting everything in sight with your wand. You can get shields to take a couple of hits, but once they're gone, they tend to be very difficult to replenish via power ups. Your wand can get three different temporary shot power ups to mix it up a little, but I gotta say the red laser one is more of a hindrance than anything, as it makes you fire even slower. Your character already fires off center and the enemies that flood the screen take multiple hits. This is made even worse by the fact you can't see them coming very well off screen and there's no barriers to duck behind. It's just 'throw everything at the player, see how long they can last spamming bullets'. Don't expect too much skill, it's about as luck based as possible, unfortunately. Your character moves at light speed (you also have a worthless boost button... great for walking faster into enemies you can't see are there) while your character's hit detection is overly wide, making dodging the ever homing in enemies largely impossible.
There's a number of things that could have been done to make this a better title outside of the character selection art and bitchin' metal. Characters with different abilities, actual terrain instead of a blank textured field, maybe upgrade power ups, etc. As it is, Death Goat is a mindless one trick pony, er, goat... that doesn't live up to even basic potential. Just buy the music, the game is a non-entity that could have been churned out by a beginner on Newgrounds or something slapped together by Adult Swim.
I'm not really a metal head, but the music is still pretty cool. The game is pretty dull actually, as there is nothing to it. A few weapons, a few characters that all play the same, and levels that are all the same. The art direction and soundtrack are the only winners here, so I just can't say you should buy this game.
Okay, I played 4 or 5 rounds of this. Not fun enough, I will accept the old arcade feel and the jokes and the great soundtrack but all in all, there is 0% replayability, nothing to work towards, I bought it to show it to my friends and even they didn't think it was good enough for 3 dollars. My personal verdict that if this were a better world, this would be free to play.
This game is easy to like, difficult to enjoy
As a game, I cannot recommend. If you just want to expand your collection, just listen to some tunes, have a laugh, sure, it's suitable.Pros:
- Cool theme
- Good music
- Low Price
Cons:

Just buy the great metal soundtrack instead
As a metal fan I found the presentation to be fantastic, it has black metal cheese all over it, the characters look metal as fuck and the soundtrack is kickass. But what makes this game just fall apart is the gameplay and some technical issues.
First off the gameplay is so bland and cookie cutter standard, the power ups are nice but only last for a short time and don't drop fast enough, there are not enough power ups, you move way to fast and keep knocking into enemies, some enemies are hard to see since they are so small and you die so quickly since your shields hitbox is absolutely huge and after it runs out it's just a matter of time before you accidentally run into an enemy because of the crazy movement speed. And excluding the issues I had with the power ups the game also lacks a lot of content, there's just a handful of bland boring maps and the fun cool characters all play the same but I've heard that the tank that you unlock at 1.000.000 score plays differently but I'm not gonna sit and play this game for that long. So you just choose your boring map, choose your cool but boring character and then top it off with an awesome metal track, every game plays like the one before and they last so shortly because of the issues listed above.
And now to the technical issues I had with this game, first off the game don't start on my main monitor and it took some time before I figured out how to move it over to my main screen since there is no option to change what monitor the game is played in. And the other problem I had is that you can't switch off controller support without plugging out your controller, and having a huge desk with a huge setup with a lot of wires that's pretty annoying just to play a simple cheap game.
Now I could live with the technical issues but because of the lack of content and bad gameplay design this game is just a no for me, if the gameplay was improved on with a bunch more power ups that don't run out instantly, the ridiculous speed gets fixed and more content then I might consider picking up this game again since I just love the theme and the presentation.
tl;dr
Positive:
+Awesome metal music
+Fantastic theme and presentation
Negative:
-Technical issues
-Lack of content
-All the characters play the same
-Bad gameplay
-Not kvlt enough
I got this for a dollar and for that, I definitely got my money's worth.
This is a simple, twin-stick shooter with fun death meatl art and a bangin soundtrack. It's well worth the price of admission to just to be exposed to these artists, most of whom I hadn't heard before.
The game got old for me pretty quickly, but I could still see the potential to prolong the experience with some expansions. If this was made into a full Binding of Isaac clone (of even a Wizard's Lizard), but death metal themed, I'd pay $20 for that.
A pretty standard twin stick top down shooter.
What sets it apart is the glorious metal sound track. If you are a fan of metal, you'll love this.
Excellent game regardless of your music preference. You're thrown in at the deep end similar to a lot of "retro" 80's games. You either shoot the shit out of the enemy or you die.
* Great soundtrack (opinion)
* Addictive
* Quick to get addicted to
* Difficult to master
5/5
Death "Metal" Goat @ 3bucks? instabuy!
Not treading any new ground for twin stick shooters, still fun in short bursts.

Contains 3 levels and 4 characters which really are just different skins. Would have liked to see layout of levels altered and while enemies were reasonably creative I feel it's a missed opportunity not to be themed to each zone. Music is where the game shines and you'll be hard pressed not to have a headbang while playing. 14 great tracks are included with the option of randomizing the playlist. Global scoreboards available for scorechasers. Screen resolutions of 4k+ was supported along with sliders for sfx, voices and music (why would you turn that down/off !?). Controls were unable to be remapped and a gamepad would be suggested. Decent little pick and play stress reliever, don't even need to spend 15minutes delving through 30 menus before the slaughter begins. \m/
RELEASE THE CRACKHEADS!!!
Death Goat is a hard-core wave based twin-stick shooter where you play as a Satanic goat (or maybe someone else if you prefer, like a death metal granny in a wheel chair) shooting down hordes of demons in a wasteland of your choice. It doesn't really matter who you choose though because all the characters seem to function the same - although the tank does seem pretty difficult to monitor the protection aura level.
Death Goat also has a lot going for it music wise. If you like metal, you're going to like this. You can select what you want to listen to, or just go for shuffle track on death which is the best way to go really until you've heard it all and picked your favourite tracks in the game.
In terms of actual game play you move about on a fairly empty wasteland - there aren't any environmental obstacles like mountains; it's just you and tonnes of demons (though being in early access maybe some environmentals will be added later). The worst of all the demons you will encounter is the tiny skull spider, and although they are the easiest thing to kill, there's lots of them, and they move fast. Your character is surrounded by an aura and each time a demon touches it (regardless of its size) the aura degrades a level and that demon dies. Once the aura is gone you're ready to be eaten by the next demon you come into contact with unless you find an aura refill. If you're eaten you lose one of your three lives, and explode killing everything before respawning. I found it not uncommon to run into a couple of small spider skulls at the same time and suddenly lose all my aura. The aura could probably do with having a brief moment of invulnerability when you get touched to make the game a little fairer, but then Death Goat isn't really about being fair. As well as the aura pick-up there's also nuke style pentagrams (of which you can hold three) and various power-ups for your weapon. Weapon power-ups are timer based and do not stack which made me a bit sad when I realised I couldn't combine effects. My favourite power-up so far is what I would describe as a psychic chainsaw, though most attacks are variants on your base projectile style weapon.
Death Goat is made in Unity, and it works pretty well. It automatically detected my ideal resolution, and I haven't found any bugs or anything that makes it difficult to play. My Xbox 360 controller worked really well with Death Goat - you use the analogue sticks and the triggers only, so you never have to shift the position of your fingers. One stick to move, the other stick to shoot in a given direction, one trigger to run, and the other to pentagram (nuke). Death Goat is just pure twitch: dodge and shoot twin stick badassery.
Being in early access Death Goat shows a lot of promise, and the dev seems to be very active in the community, and the current price of $2.99USD is pretty fair. The fact that the game appears to be bug free at this point means that development is going to focus on adding new features as asked for by the community, which is pretty exciting. I'm particularly looking forward to the possibility of multiplayer modes being added.
7 out of 10 would RELEASE MORE CRACKHEADS \m/
