Good Look
Original review at 4hrs 4min:
The game is not very realistic and focuses more on driving in certain terrain or in certain biome's. The game covers 3 unique places. The steep mountain roads in the Andes, Winter wonderland in Canada, and the dirt and rugged Australian Outback. It is more for a relaxing and easy going experience for the player. However I was driving like a mad man in the game in order to maximize and get to a certain part in the game quickly it can be enjoyable for all. I believe I got this in a bundle and I figured I would finally go ahead and play it. Well wasn't bad actually for an old game. Just be mindful what your playing and its age.
LOL of course a game from 2009 will feel like its old dated and from 2009
Grow up kiddo.
If you want to experience what fulled the fire for better games from SCS go ahead and enjoy this old gem
otherwise if you have better things to spend on than an old game; Have at it and keep your cash.
Very nice and cool game!!
However, I would like not getting a virus by pressing one of the in-game link for discovering the developer's studios.
this game simulates the real life trucking wold it's where you can play relax's and chill
DO NOT BUY THIS FLOPPY ERA DEMO ! i give this demo : 1.1/10 !!!
====
There are 8, 18 wheels of steel games in total, all are available in steam.
i bought 3 of them on steam probably on sale each for 1$ or something, and after so 4 maybe 5 years i finally said let's play them and see what they are.
i remember i played one of these games as a child, which one i don't remember, but i do remember even as a child i only played it for 2~3 hours max and i didn't enjoy them that much even back then.
after so many years i finally said let's play the games and see what they were, and here it is :
!!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, EVEN FOR 0.01$ !!!!!!
FIRST IT'S NOT EVEN A GAME, IT'S MORE LIKE A VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD DEMO !!!!
ONLY BUY THIS GAME IF YOU PLAYED IT FOR DAYS AND DAYS AS A CHILD AND YOU LOVED IT !
after playing american long haul the only thing in this that is better is after you push new game u actually get a mission and you don't have to spent 10 minutes pressing every key on the keyboard just to figure out how to start the game.
graphics are so old, i can name 20 games right now that was released 5 years before this game with 10 times the better graphics, i love old games, but this is FLOPPY ERA GAME !
i spent around 20 minutes in this game and that was too much.
=====
i give this demo : 1.1/10 !!!
hi this game changed my life having playing boring games and then stumbled apon this game it is so fun you get to do jobs and just free play and you get to get new trucks and trailers every time you finish a job and you get new maps and so on so bye have fun playing
If you're thinking to purchase this game, then keep some of the following in mind.
- This is only a quick job game, you can't pick which specific location to go like Euro Truck Simulator 2 but you are only able to pick three different regions which then clicking on one, will give you maybe to two if you're a beginner to like 4 if you've been grinding.
-Second, this game is very old so dont expect amazing graphics and looks but it does feel like a very good game for beginners and even advanced people.
-Third, this game can be very addictive. It was for me as a child and now I'm old but still playing it.
If you want to experience the real and full truck driver simulator, buy ETS 2.
If you're a beginner, then buy this to get a good feel of the controls and how to play.
Fun little driving game, but it's obviously pretty dated now. There are newer ones that will satisfy your truck driving itch.
The game doesn't deserve a negative review. But it is outdated, and its sequel is far superior to it. Firstly, there are 3 maps in the game (Tuktoyaktuk, Australia, Yungas), and ET2 (Sequel) adds 2 new maps, Montana and Bangladesh. There are lesser varieties of cargo, and the routes may get repetitive. But considering that this was released in 2009, it's not bad. Get it within the bundle if it goes on sale like I did if you are a fan of the series like me. Otherwise, get the sequel. I'm currently on a roll to finish the game so that I can say ''I finished both games'' as if that will help me advance in my life.
Different from other truck simulator games, in a good way. Very realistic ice levels, with life like feel of icy conditions. Easy to run, simple to play. Nice areas and trucks.
I started playing this game, and 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul when I was 7. I can't remember what I got it on but it wasn't Steam. But I broke that computer one day at 1:00 AM in the morning getting chocolate and I started crying I loved those games so much. But yesterday I was reunited with them and that menu music on American Long Haul almost made me tear up. I'm 14 almost 15 now. Hopefully you guys could tell how much I love this game and I bet you guys will love it just as much. These games may be old, but they still pack a punch towards other games in the fun department. Thanks for reading, bye!
Older trucking game from the makers of the excellent Euro Truck Sim 2, and American Truck Sim games. Very simple, and very repetitive. Only buy if you want to support the dev or want to see their earlier work. Could only stand to play it long enough to cross it off my backlog.
Pick a job from a selection of 2, then finish it for experience points. Level up for harder jobs, and 2 extra maps. That's all there is to it.
Now if your buying this game...its not for the graphics...its fun and must have some setimental value to you. I played this game as a child and had fun. Granite this game same out years ago so stop coplaining about and move on with your life. Its a great game and I hope you will enjoy it too
Just a quickie review.
Bought it on the Summer Sale 2016 for 0,49€.
The graphics are serviceable, not as good as ETS 2, but it's older, so it's to be expected.
There are 3 maps, first about 170-220 miles long in-game. Going from one side to the other at full speed usually took me about 10-15 minutes to drive.
You get 2 random jobs with random modifiers on things like weather, load's weight and the time of day.
The driving is arcade-y and overall it still feels solid enough.
The music's forgettable, but it serves its purpose. The winter atmosphere's quite good. Still haven't had the chance to drive during night time.
Trucks are not customizable. There's no money. All you do is earn points which level you up. Leveling up seems to serve literally no purpose. I'm almost lvl 3 and I haven't received anything yet.
You can't look outside of the cabin window, like in ETS 2.
There are some custom events like seeing a toppled truck or a flying helicopter. Nothing much, but spiced the game up.
EDIT: I made it to the Outback. This map is bigger and more detailed. But it also has less branching road. There's basically one branching path. Also, the trucks have fans in them, which are a good entertainment to look at. Some of the trucks have pieces of metal fencing in front of the bottom of the front window. I love this Mad Max style truck!
EDIT 2: Well, this playthrough is over for me. I consider this game finished.
I managed to play the last area, the Southern American, Peru-like mountainous area. Definitely the most difficult road, Peru has nothing interesting going on for it, except for the more unique looking structures, like the junkyard and the beta version of the quarry that can be seen in Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Overall: You can buy this game for a cheaper price than a packet of crisps. The game's fun enough for at least an hour if you have something to listen to/watch in the background.
7/10
OK, here goes...
This game plays well, finnaly!
I have a couple of things to mention though. The Option buttons are not very well thought out
To get a Steering Wheel to play in a driving sim, should be second hand, but finding the options button for Manual Transmission, Controller Activation, and such was a mistery? Until that is, I found the Manual, and noticed the author mention in small print about a "BUTTON" at the "TOP" of each Option tab.
With this in mind, the Mystery was soon solved!
These "BUTTONS" are "Orange in Color" BTW
Have Fun, I am now too!
Wheel support sucks. May have been solid when it came out, but it sort of lacks stuff expected in the truck sim industry these days. Interesting environments though.
5.9/10
Driving is realistic. But the turning radius of the trucks is poor, and not much different than older games. But the graphics are much better, as well as the weather. But this game is a different type. It is not a serious simulator, it is an arcade-style game. But there is nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that the player can get tired of it quickly, with only three environments included. I do suggest that people buy Extreme Trucker 2, but this is not a bad game, but one that has room for a LOT of improvement.
Always a fun game to play, I'll explain to you why in a short review. I've played several games like these, I like this one the best.
Why?
It´s quite simple, the graphics still look good.
Widescreen?
Works on widescreen res 1920x1080.
Recommend or not?
I´m sure if you like trucking games then you´ll definately like this one!! I say YES.
Despite it's dated graphics, it's still a fun game. I'm using a "Steel-Series" game pad, and custom mapping, Set up for manual transmission makes it a bit more exciting. Gear down and "HIT THE JAKES"
So over all, if you like driving games or BIG TRUCKS, take it for a spin.
You drive huge trucks long distances through the most death defying terrains imaginable. This game is 100% WIn. If you don't own this game your missing out.
One look at this game and you'd think "This is some stupid bullshit". You would be correct in that surmation, but what you fail to realize is that this game is actually god damned awesome when you get past the fact that you're just driving from point A to point B with some silly environments. It's fun as hell to go over median going 85, or drifting in the snow with a load of precious diesel fuel. They have these little hills in the snow levels, you get a good speed going you can fuck shit up when you launch off of em.
This is a silly game for a select audience, but if its on sale for like $4.99 or less, I'd say get it, it's a nice distraction from those FPS' you play all the time. You know who you are.
