This is a very simple and very basic top-down / twin-stick shooter with no controller support in a veritable ocean of top-down / twin-stick shooters that do have controller support... and do this sort of thing ten times better. Sure, it's solid and works fine; will run on a potato and might even entertain you for a few minutes... but - feels as generic and as dull AF.
If you want a game like this, where swarms of enemies come at ya in their droves, you could do a lot worse than pick up something more exciting like Assault Android Cactus, Crimsonland, Nex Machina, Tesla Vs Lovecraft or even Nation Red. Even Serious Sam's Bogus Detour (with its dodgy controller optimisation) or Iron Fisticle/Crypticle do a much better job.
Thank You.
40 Genres / 40 Top 10s - Enjoy!
I've always had a thing for Zombie Shooters. I think there's a specific name to the genre, but I don't remember. So, Zombie Shooters.
This one is fun as hell, and you'll surely leave the streets bloody. It's short and easy to beat, there are plenty of achievements and different ways to kill the enemies. The weapons are the most obvious, but the environment traps are the most entertaining. Starts with trains, ends with saws. Giant saws!
It's really fun, and it's a shame that it doesn't have many more reviews.
Imagine a horde mode-only, amateurish version of Dead Nation with no controller support nor key re-assignment. It's just a basic top down zombie shooter with basic graphics, soundtrack, design - everything's basic. I don't want to be mean to the devs as they clearly have more talent than me, but this is a waste of your time if nothing else.
TLDR:
The more you play, the worse it gets.
Gameplay:
When it works, it plays like any other top-down shooter. However, it crashes every 2 or 3 levels.
Levels:
The beginning levels are fun, spacious, and have a few traps you can activate by stepping on them. The further you get into the game, the less spacious they are. They eventually become entirely comprised of small streets and alleys that act like funnels, trapping you in and forcing you to run in one direction while enemies spawn all around you.
Weapons:
You cant cycle weapons; you can only carry one weapon at a time. After you unlock the rifle (2nd weapon in the game), each weapon after that has ridiculously low starting ammo. Most of the time you run out before reaching an ammo spawn (even while running directly to the next ammo spawn). The "machine gun" is the most annoying weapon because you have to load it ONE BULLET AT A TIME; you cant stop the process to shoot with the bullets youve already loaded. This is particularly annoying if enemies spawn next to you, which happens all the time in the later levels.
Soundtrack:
The one decent quality the game possesses is pretty good background music.
TL;DR: a bit outdated Crimsonland with zombies.
Just started playing the game, and writing this right off the bat -- hello, Crimsonland, good to see you again, after so many years! Got to give it to the devs -- art is unique, and not some cheap assets, ripped off from Unity store. Same with music, by the way.
Other than mentioning the art, there's really nothing more to say about the game -- well, it's a top-down shooter, that will remind you of Crimsonland more than once when you'll be playing it.
You're progressing through the campaign, unlocking weapons, killing zombies and looking through some comix-styled pictures that represent the storyline. That's it, basically.
Graphics and VFX are okay, though a bit outdated for 2015-2016. Music and sounds fit the game well. Level design is okay (better than Crimsonland's empty plains for sure). Devs tried to add some tactics to the massacre by adding exploding barrels and environmental hazards.
Overall, this is an okay top-down shooter, which I'd rate 6.8 out of 10.0 and would recommend to the people who enjoyed Crimsonland and wouldn't mind a bit outdated graphics.
Bloody Streets is a run-and-gun top down 2d zombie shoot-em-up developed by Headless Wizard. It is packed with easy achievements and a variety of weapons and enemy's. Bloody Streets is a great time killer.
The core gameplay of Bloody Streets is sprinting and gunning down zombies, while trying to stay alive and resupplying between rounds. Wave after wave of numerous enemy's with a thirst for blood will rush the player attempting to kill them. The enemy's include slow and fast zombies, spiders, maggots, giant zombies, and exploding zombies.
Bloody Streets has many options available for disposing of hostiles. Different rifles, shotguns, pistols and even your melee ability can be used on the undead hoard. Environmental weapons also make quick work of them; such as trains, saw blades, and even mines can be used to defend yourself. The player is also able to activate "rage" where the player spins rapidly with knives in hand, immune to damage for a short duration.
The art and sound design of Bloody Streets is solid, the artsy design and the drawn cutscenes for the game are very well done and fit the game well. The high energy rock for background music makes the game feel more intense. The music, however, seems to cut out when you take to much time during a wave and is slightly repetitive.
Bloody Streets does a lot of things right.
High energy game
Great time killer
Really easy achievements
Great variety
Fantastic art design
Bloody Streets does have a few issues.
Can get boring quickly
Music seems to have some bugs and is repetitive
The ending seemed rushed
Lack of context in the story
Feels like a flash game
Overall Bloody Streets is a well made, fairly fun game. The cost of $5.49CND is over priced unless the player is attempting to get 100% of the achievements. If Bloody Streets is on sale I suggest picking it up, it's a fantastic game to kill time with and is a good amount of fun.
Have a good one.
Bloody Streets is a top-down kill-em-all arena shooter that looks good at first glance, but when the finer details of the game come out, it's kind of... irritating to play?
The problem with so many "dumb" shoot-em-all arena horde style games is that sometimes, the finer details of how the game works can be easy to skimp on. Like enemy spawn placement, ammo count, that sort of thing.
Bloody Streets, while being an otherwise fine game, does a bunch of these things in a way that made me grind my gears.
Here's a few examples while playing:
1: You can choose from many weapons in your arsenal as you go through the game, but at the beginning you are stuck with a shitty rifle that doesn't do much of anything at the hordes. Oh, and it has a very low ammo count, so you'll inevitably run out of ammo trying to shoot all the zombies. That means at some point you'll be surrounded by zombies and suddenly out of ammo (which is a bad design decision because it breaks the flow of the game, and forces the player to have to run through crowds to gather ammo pickups that are not big enough to keep the shooting going). But when that happens and you run away from the zombies, whatever zombies are remaining off-screen get deleted by the game, and eventually the game tells you "It's time to kill these five zombies to advance to the next level!" MOTHERFUCKER I WASN'T FINISHED SHOOTING THESE ZOMBIES IN THE FACE, IT'S NOT MY FAULT YOU DIDN'T GIVE ME ENOUGH AMMO. PUT THOSE ZOMBIES BACK, I AM A LEAN MEAN ZOMBIE MURDER MACHINE AND I AM NOT GETTING THE SERVICE I WANT AT THIS ZOMBIE MURDER RESTAURANT.
2: This game has a high-score mechanic, and you get the best scores by having zombies eat bullets, having crowds of zombies crowdshare a grenade, or by leading them onto the railroad tracks into the path of a passing train.
You also get a rapidly increasing bonus depending on how many zombies you can cram into your kill streak. That's my jam - but unfortunately, if the zombies even get close enough to breathe on you, you lose that streak. And if you like to back towards the buildings while shooting zombies like I like to do, the game likes to spawn zombies that come out of the building just right behind you and BOOM, STREAK'S OVER. HOPE YOU DIDN'T WANT THAT S RANK, BUBBY, BECAUSE A ZOMBIE'S GOT IT NOW.
3: Like I mentioned earlier, the starting weapons are shit and there's too low of a starting ammo count for them. This would be fine if this were a game about survival and creative problem-solving of zombie hordes, but this is a game about being a badass who can turn into the Tasmanian Devil when he gets angry enough. Games like this usually provide enough ammo to keep the flow of murder going, which is why you never run out of ammo for a weapon in a game like Crimsonland, or you have more than enough ammo to get the job done in a first person shooter like Doom. Being forced to stop shooting to run away to run around and pick up enough ammo to keep a sustained assault going not only breaks flow, but is not fun.
All of this is not to say that Bloody Streets is a bad game - it's competent enough to allow anyone probably a couple of hours of stupid gleeful death - but it's not good enough to be satisfying like the games it's trying to be like. It's okay, but it could be BETTER. For me, I keep seeing how much better the game could be and I'm disappointed, because there aren't a whole lot of games that are like Crimsonland and even fewer of them are actually good.
A kinda tedious and derivative top-down zombie shooter in the same style as Nation Red but not as good. I do generally quite like this type of Nation Red style game, but this one is just a bit too cheap and boring really. Graphics are poor, music is alright but the overall package just isn't really worth playing.
Bloody Streets is a pretty simple, straightforward shooter; from a top-down perspective, fend off hordes of zombies and other abominations and survive 'til the end of the round. At the start of each of the 24 stages (set across four chapters, each with its own distinct setting) you'll select one of seven unlockable weapons, then battle your way through with the help of pick-ups in the shape of extra health, ammo and grenades as you rack up combo kills and amass points. A rank will be awarded at the end of every stage based on your points, but it doesn't really count for anything special aside from bragging rights, I guess.
Other treats come in the form of environmental hazards, such as trains, mines, cars, crushers, flames, blades and good old-fashioned exploding barrels. And also to aid you is a Rage mode, a super attack that turns you into an invulnerable tornado of spinning, bladed glory for a limited time, activated by collecting orbs from downed enemies. There's a little bit of a story to the game, the action being told through very brief, comic book style panels at the very start and end of the game, but it really amounts to nothing more than zombies are happening, gun-toting bad*ss shoots them all up, the end. But at least the panels look pretty.
The game in general is nice enough to look at, in fact, being a welcome change of colour and brightness that most zombie themed games will usually stay well away from. Although, overall, as nice as it looks, you can't escape the sense that the whole thing feels like a browser game more than anything else. I bought it for 99 cents, and am perfectly happy with what I got for that, but I could see how some people might see the full asking price as a little much for what it is, though I still think it's set pretty fairly.
Like I said, it's simple and straightforward, nothing too fancy here, but still enjoyable. Although, while I had little issue on my first play through, on subsequent plays the game did crash frequently... very frequently. Like, maybe a dozen or so times in the 4 hours it took to finish (though that's only for completionists. Just to reach the end should take no more than 90 minutes). Though, to it's credit, it did at least have the decency to only ever do it during the menus and loading screen and never during actual gameplay at any point. Whatever the hell that's about.
I've played better, but I've also played a lot worse, and even with a bunch of minor niggles, nothing was too bad to stop me enjoying my time with it. It's a fun, competently put together little number that I'd really like to see expanded upon in future titles, and although not necessarily glowingly, is one that I'd still be able to recommend.
Very fun game, I played this non stop loved every minute of it, found a bug and talked to one of the Devs and got it fixed. I would say that I would have to give this game a solid 7.5 out of 10. It just lacks replayability. My advice get it on a sale unless you have extra cash and want to suport a nice dev team.
Simple, fun, addictive gameplay. Reminds me of the arcade games that I grew up with.
Only thing better would be to have multiplayer.
Bloody streets is a game that doesn't give a fuck about your volume settings. You will listen to the intro at max fucking volume because suck my dick, that's how zombies roll, especially for fucking $1. The animations are banging, and that's about it. I didn't play it very much, TBH it bored me, the AI is simply retarded and just follows you in a straight line. You can easily herd them around a barrel and blow them all up into little down syndrome flakes all over the ground, and speaking of mental handicaps, you have a rage meter. What rational thought came to mind when you read that? Your bullets get stronger for awhile when you fill it? Your character gains super melee abilities or some sort of invulnerability? Nope, upon activation, your character turns into A FUCKING GOD DAMN LAWN MOWER, SPINNING AROUND LIKE AN AUTISTIC CHILD DENIED HIS GOODBOY POINTS FOR CLEANING HIS ROOM. I'm not sure, but I think someone is fucking with me here. 9/10, would play for 6 minutes again.
For a top down shooter, this game DELIVERS the goods!
Here is my first impressions Review video:

Solid game that has fast relentless actions, super smooth controls and offers tons of fun and a huge bang for your dollar!
My Score Based on Value and Fun: 83 out of 100! Awesome!
Bloody Streets is an addicting top down shooter that lets you kill a lot of zombies. It's simplistic and cheap, but the $4.99 you pay is more than well worth it as you'll find yourself coming back to it soon. It scratched my itch for a top down shooter.
Bloody Streets is an enjoyable top down shooter which is worth the price. All achievements are simply and easy to attain. Easy enough to recommend for those fans to who like this genre of gaming.
8/10.
The intro art was really cool and I thought I was going to be presented with a deep combat experience based on the reviews.. I was very dissapointed. Its missing a lot of what usually makes these games fun such as upgrades, or any sort of progression system.
If its on sale for .99 or less it might be worth it, otherwise you can play many similiar games on sites like
http://zombiegames.net
http://www.kongregate.com/search?q=zombies or
http://armorgames.com/category/zombie-games
for free that are more fleshed out with better systems. At this state though the game is not worth $5, or the price of a large Cafe Mocha, I've enjoyed them for longer than I enjoyed this game.
- Fast paced arcade style action
- Use of the environment as weapons in combat
- Unique art style
- Traditional frame by frame animations
- Music dynamic rhythm system
Bloody Streets has engaging gameplay, solid controls, really satisfying carnage & music very well-suited to the pace of the action. Perhaps the only thing missing is 2-player co-op, I don't think it could support anymore than that.
Target Audience: Top Down Fans who really want a different style, more then gameplay.
Summary:
The game's focus on just throwing numbers and numbers and numbers at you shows that the game doesn't have a lot of depth to play with: and it was start to wear on you very quickly, to the point where even the good zombie walking animations and style won't be able to keep your attention. That's Bloody Streets big problem: it can't make a dent in the fun aspect as each wave it dealt in almost the same wave level after level, and you really become mindless in the bad way while playing: you're just bored. Sure, there's decent controls and there's enemy variety at times, but the guns not really feeling balanced nor the game's music being very generic really don't reward the time you put into it. Look elsewhere.
Gameplay Footage and Video Review: https://youtu.be/IBr_JynIjog
Lists:
Positives:
- Reasonable style.
- Controls are decent.
- Some enemy variety.
- Some good animation.
Negatives:
- The challenge focuses too much on numbers and not on clever situations/variety.
- Gameplay's repetition gets to you very quickly and there's not enough variety to carry it.
- The music starts to weigh on you very very quickly.
- Wish there was somewhere between one hit and bullet sponge on the enemy side.
- Balance of guns has some issues.
- Enemies and the way they spawn can feel unfair or just a little bit iffy.

A surprisingly fun budget title. The screenshots didn't do it justice, so watch the video.
This game plays like Smash TV, but it's even more twitchy. The first few stages are a cake-walk and the difficulty seems to increase rapidly.
The traps and powerups are clever and well-designed. Very surprised by this title. Definitely worth the $5.00, if not more. The only feature this game is missing is co-op. There doesn't even appear to be local co-op, which was a bit of a disappointment.
Pick it up if you are a fan of Smash TV, but don't expect a rich storyline or multiplayer experience.
