Fun little retro racer game, just the right amount of challenge! Plus, you get to make your own tracks. I enjoyed it!
I just got this on sale. It is a fun little racing game!
Awesome good old retro 16 Bit Racer. Best part is to create your own tracks and play other player created tracks
Fun Game
Don't be fooled by the trailer, it's a normal racing game. I played in offline mode as I get a "no profile name" error upon registering so I couldn't play online no matter what I wrote in any of the 4 fields
Gameplay: Simple to use, But Hard to master precision steer tapping (if you know how to steer tapping). It's you vs the clock or a faster PB or ever others' PB.
Graphics: It's self-explanatory. mix it up some 8-bit and 16-bit looks. ever see a top down car zooming around in a Mario Bros. Level?
Controls: Simple pick-up-and-pay. But hard to master the "Tap Steer" move.
Soundtrack: Alright. Nothing to listen outside the game. it's good neither or less.
HAhahahahahhahahah wow. I bought this game way back when i was a dumb kid like 4 years ago, and wow do NOT buy this crap. I actually don't blame younger me for wanting it, the trailer makes it look so cool but its the BIGGEST LIE I'VE EVER SEEN. All you do is drive around the simplest tracks with an arial view, the graphics are trash and its boring af. I still remember the dissapointment i felt when i actually got playing it. Hats off to the maker of the trailer, THAT game looks fun, exept from the sad fact that it doesn't exist. Please don't buy this ill pay you not to
Just found this collecting dust in my library. Got mislead hard by the trailer. Boo!
Like an 8-Bit Trackmania game... on Crack!
First half-hour impressions:
From the moment I started up the game, I was unimpressed. I was met with a login screen that expected me to make an account or "play offline". Of course, I'm playtesting this game, so I pick "offline". I am met with a very limited singleplayer experience and UI design that looks like it belongs in one of those horrid dime-a-dozen ad-plastered android apps. The races themselves feel sort of nice, but at the same time, a little too easy. The default controls (arrow keys instead of WASD) make no sense in this day and age, and it is unplayable with a controller unless you manually re-bind. For some reason, it uses the L-Trigger axis for both acceleration and braking, and since the triggers generally don't GO both ways unless you're using a literal joystick, that means I can only go in reverse. Yeah. Very useful. I can back into a tree! As well, I don't think I understand the "boost pads". It doesn't feel like I'm getting a boost; in fact, it feels the opposite. It feels like the game is treating it as a BAD thing, and punishing me for it. It clearly is speeding me up somewhat, but the screen shakes violently and my car flashes red, whilst the AI-controlled car does no such thing and gracefully rolls over the pads like it's no big deal.
On top of that, the game is very buggy. One bug right off the top of my head, and this is in the UI department, is that if you keep restarting the race--or using the menu in general--the little labels for the controller buttons begin to multiply. It wasn't long before I saw "Retry" buried in "[A][A][A][A][A][A][A][A][A]". On that note, you really shouldn't put text. You should do what the other devs do, and use opaque icons...and only one of them.
I was about to call it a day and write a negative review until one thing caught me off guard. One thing that truly shines in this game, and that is the music. The OST is very nice, and made me stay a little longer, if only just to jam to some music. While I'm still not quite impressed with the single-player gameplay, I've gotten somewhat used to it, and I hope that the dev can really bring out the polish that this game deserves. This has the potential to be a really good game. In its current state, though, my recommendation comes with a few grains of salt.
I especially have a hard time recommending it due to the price tag. $10 is a little steep for the level of quality you're getting. i feel like 7 or even 5 dollars would be more reasonable.
Its good not great game
This is decent game for it's era, if you played a top down racer from the 80's or 90's, you might like this one. The official levels can be from very easy to confusive at times but all of them were easy enough for me to get a Gold Medal on (even if you can't, the ghosts might help you improve your time, except for Bronze which is honestly dumb but no offense), the car unlocking system is based on how many achievements you have in progress, the car's performance doesn't change since it's base speed is set to 229 Km/h or 142.3 MPH, it's track editor might not be the best since it's very limited from unexisting diagonal straights and 1 BG that can be changed it's color so you want to recreate something with a different BG than you thinked, you gotta use the main one with a specific color, sadly, the game's community ain't that much so i can understand there's kids on the road wanting the free achievements to create the courses so yeah.
As for gameplay... It's ok, the only weird thing is that the car's physics can clip through some of the barriers (albeit very slowly) if you hit them fast enough, other than that it's simply just race to the checkpoints and to the line as fast as you can.
Overall, i'll give it a 6/10. I get it's from early 2016 but it's still passable as a top down racer hommage game, and because of all that i've said (despite not playing it for a long time) earlier might describe what it is.
just love the simplicity of the game ... simple time attack , controls were simple to pick up on control and my file from when i had it on mobile over two years ago still existed so i got all my old tracks back but this time can play with a proper control rather than on a touch screen control on a small screen ... very happy with my purchase
Simple and fun. Reminds me of old top-down racers on the 8bit & 16 bit consoles and computers. Nice track editor with online sharing.
Loads of fun trying to beat other people's times and making new tracks, will be playing this for a while!
Not worth the cash. Barely more than a Addictinggames flash game. Musics pretty good, though.
Pros
----
- Cute game play
- Some pretty good music
- High score list seems pretty legit
Cons
-----
- Extremely repetitive
- Terrible menu layouts
- Very cheap; barely more than a FTP phone game
if you loose your account you loose ALL of your data, this game is good otherwise but i dont know why you cant just store the data locally or through steam.
Firstly, ignore the trailer. The game isn't a homage to retro games of old. HOWEVER, that's not to say you shouldn't buy this (after all, it comes with a level designer, go make your own). It's a great top down racer, almost like a 2D Trackmania. The gameplay is solid and the controls responsive. You'll find yourself resetting the track to improve your time and ranking.
The name is accurate, you'll race a bit, 5 minutes here and there, but I've found myself coming back to it again and again in short bursts.
