Описание

Ilamentia is a first-person mysterious abstract puzzler, featuring 96 mind-bender levels.

The goal is simple, activate all souls and escape, but every level revolves around wildly differing mechanics where you must first discern the level's purpose before resolving its wishes. You may be tasked with manipulating physical structures or the realm itself, perhaps deal with waves of phasms or briskly bound through the aether. The mystery is to deduce the limits of the level's mechanics which evolve as you progress. Some levels focus on brain-melting logic, others rely on sharp reactions, but many more will test the limits of every facet of your cognitive faculties.

DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

Ilamentia is a game developed and published by caiys

The game offers some nice graphics and a beautiful aesthetic which is pleasant all the same and has some amazing attention to detail even though it is a little rough around the edges

The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless and ends just at the right time

Ilamentia overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is an okay surreal puzzle game to play in short bursts!

RECOMMENDED :)

The categorical attestation that uniqueness is not equivalent to worthiness. This tawdry experience presents a host of puzzles that range from ordinary to awful, trying patience and persistence whilst the visuals do their utmost to give the player a seizure. Seriously, the amount of flashing and flickering in this game is insane, it's not appealing at all. I commend anyone who completed this, of which I myself number amongst, not that finishing it is rewarding in any way - in actual fact it's a total waste of time.

Ilamentia | noun | a chronic disorder of the mind caused by playing an offensive puzzle game.

Very nice First-Person-Puzzler with great optics. A little bit of walking simulator, too.
Some Puzzles are less intuitive, but overall it has been a great experience.
Recommendable if you like games like Portal, Antichamber, Beginners Guide, Stanley Parable etc.

That's gonna be a no for me. I'm a big fan of puzzle games, when I bought this game I thought it would have some kind of "abstract puzzle" atmosphere similar to Antichamber (one of my favorite game).
Unfortunately this is far from being the case.

This game is more of a walking simulator, with most puzzle rooms lacking any clue and only responding to brute-force. The persistant demand of trial-and-error solutions without asking any intellectual input from the player is the reason why I didn't feel like pursuing this hollow gameplay further.

Maybe some people like exploring surreal worlds, but even considering that, this game doesn't feel alive at all and the visual experience was actually quite unpleasant.

I'm struggling to find some "pros" to this game. The price maybe... Some puzzle concepts could have been interesting if they were better designed. I might reconsider my review if I decide to play this game further, but right now it just feels like a waste of time...

The game is a puzzle game in first person, with a bit of platforming (used for the puzzles)
It's composed of 8 "islands" with different levels on it (around 8 levels if I remember correctly)
All the islands and levels are accessible from the beggining.
The game have a very well done ambience(I don't like to say weird, but I don't see a lot of other ways to describe it)and it's a part of why it's a really unique game, thanks to the very great visual effects.
And how about the puzzles themselves?
Well, they are great, inventive ,and, like the game itself, very confusing and extremely hard, also, while the game have some clues for the levels, you have to understand and find everything by yourself.
The rules of each level, what you're meant to do,and in the beginning, how the map works and how the game is composed, all of this, you'll have to understand it yourself(wich is great!)
Those things makes Ilamentia a great and unique really well made game, that I recommend to anyone who is into puzzle games or unique and special games.
And another great thing, the dev is super super nice.(and will help you if you ask him)

Don't let a price tag of $4.99 trick you into thinking that this game is better than most of the FREE ones out there....like I was tricked. This "game" is basically ONE PINK ROOM in the clouds, with apparent "puzzles" that make no logical sense, and incredible skill tests involving jumping from one floating square to the next...in which you are NEVER clear on what you are supposed to be doing.
If jumping around in vast, open spaces (and constantly and repeatedly falling to your "death" if you miss the platform a pixel) is the kind of thing that excites you...then buddy, slap that $4.99 on the counter and expect to be bored to the point of catatonia, just the way you love it!

While first set of levels was nice and overall the game has good and interesting puzzle levels, there are also some absurdly hard platformer levels. While i would recommend to try this game out to excersise brain a bit, i don't recommend the game to completionists like me as some levels might take hours of attempts to complete.
Treat my review as mixed, steam offers only thumbs up or down so i pick the least used in cases like this.

Ilamentia is a weird little game with creepy low-res graphics and 96 unexplained levels. You move around in 1st person and click your mouse wondering what you are supposed to do, then you accdientally fall off a platform into the abyss for the 100th time, but that won't bother you because the game resets you back to the start of the level - and you are good to go. Then you try the spacebar to jump and discover it effects the level somehow and you can use that for a possible solution.

Yeah you fail and not solve any puzzles, constantly, but the whole process is rather chill and that's nice.

Ilamentia is a worthy purchase for anyone in need of a challenge.

THis is a hard game to review, I just say it is very different from other puzzle games and this is good, effects could be less but this is not too much of a problem and it has no set rules.
THis is an experience to say the least.

Warning: This is an abstract puzzler. The puzzles don't give you much to go on and even the level hints are vague, but that's precisely why I find solving them so satisfying! In a gaming era of extreme hand-holding this is one of the few puzzling gems that will actually REALLY challenge you and for that reason alone this game deserves my support.

I've completed most of the game now and formed a love/hate relationship with it. The gameplay is nice and some of the levels are creative. BUT... Way too much of the challenge in this game revolve around the player not seeing a f'ing thing except the screen flickering or the theme of the world you're in makes everything a huge pile of shit on your screen. On some levels you have to do platforming while the platforms are hidden and there's nothing in the level that allow you to judge distances so you have to count in your head to figure when not to press forward anymore. Some levels make you lose your vision as you progress and this theme of not seeing s**t repeats over and over. There is some kind of logic in the puzzles but the rules mostly change as you progress and you will "die" because theres no way you could have known what will happen. I'll give an example here about the poor puzzle designs here so SPOILER warning incase you're going to purchase the game.

There is a level where you have to step on platforms in a correct order. There are 2 penalties from stepping on a wrong platform 1. The platform will slowly fall and fade and an enemy will spawn. 2. If the platform is part of the chain you have to step on but it's not the next platform in the chain all the platforms will fade and you die. The platforms you have to step on sort of make sense... There's never a platform inbetween the platform you have to step on and the one you're currently standing on. All this would make sense but then it's made completely random. There's a part where you have to take few steps back and the chain of platforms continues to other direction. There is a part where you HAVE to make a mistake in order to reach the next correct platform. And there is a part in the very end of the level where you suddenly have to take a step diagonally. Trial and error untill you finish the level.

All this would be fine if the levels would follow certain rules but they only let you think that you understood what you have to do and then change it just to confuse you. It would be OK in one or two levels but this turns out to be more like the idea of the game. Even tho I'm gonna finish the game because I already invested so much time on it I can't recommend this because it is nerve wrecking seizure simulator.

" Designed as torture, agressive in all the aspects : visually, sonically, mechanically.

Played... Is that the right word ? Faced it for half an hour and gave up, i don't find pleasure in pain.

Really I didn't like it."

This was my first evaluation of Ilamentia, didn't get past the first impression and quitted.

I gave it 2 more hours and discovered another game, an addictive one, with a hundred of twisted puzzle and some nice visuals that changes through levels.

What i found aggressive the first time was the perpetual shakiness of everything that got me confused and on edge making all of the other aspects also agressive, turning on the "Motion sickness" option made the game more readable and a lot less shaky.

So, to correct my first impression, soundtrack fits well and gameplay mechanics are simple and efficient. For now I like it.

I *love* the atmosphere, the art style, and the puzzles I've played so far.

But *everything* flickers in this game, it's headache-inducing. There are options to turn off motion-sickness-inducing effects, and I would love an option to replace the flickering with something smoother. I think even just sinusoidal pulsing instead of flickering would help a lot.

The game is fairly random, which is my attribution as to why it's difficult. A set of levels appears to have a common art theme, but not a common gameplay theme.

Many puzzle games introduce a mechanic and build upon it, this game does not do that in a conventional manner. I'm sure the devs put a lot of time into the game since there are new mechanics in almost every level, but the game doesn't really have a coherent presentation. Most levels I wouldn't call what I did "solving a puzzle", more just wandering around or trying things randomly until the game progressed. Was there a mechanic involved to progress? Yes. Was there any depth to that mechanic? Not usually.

That said, I only played through the first two worlds. Chances are that the mechanics do build up, as no set of devs can come up with a hundred different mechanics. But the organization of levels is rather frustrating. It's like taking a person and tossing them into a workshop and telling them to use one tool, then some other tool entirely. You don't ever develop your skill with one tool because you simply don't get the opportunity to become familiar with it.

The art is pretty cool. I don't really care for the soul faces and the 'death' style screen/enemies and actually think they don't fit the game so much (Could just be abstract objects instead), but the rest of the environments are cool looking and provide good ambiance.

Overall it's the kind of game that doesn't make me feel compelled to continue playing due to the disjointness of the puzzles. It's like finishing the sudoku in the newspaper and then deciding that maybe later you'll come back to doing the crossword and maybe later after that you'll do the word search, or read the comics. But, more than likely, next week's paper will come out and it'll be forgotten.

The only real issue with this game is the the objectives of the puzzles are hidden. In order for a puzzle to be solvable, or reasonable for that matter, you need to know what the game wants you to accomplish. Many of the puzzles make sense, but I found myself asking "wait, what do I need to do?" about a doxen too many times. The graphics, and overall feel of the game are good, but there is too little explanation of what the player should be doing.

This game is very unique. It's not SCARY, but I imagine it's not too different from waking up in some strange afterlife you were never told about. Nothing punishing but also nothing known at all.

It's fun, I love poking around in games. Games built around exploration are all me.

The only trouble is I haven't yet figured out how to do well, if that makes sense. I want to experience the darkest parts but don't know how. I know they are there.. I guess the game is finding out how to get where you wanna go.

How unusual.

This game is amazing. It has a really cool abstract art style and level design. It's not your average first-person puzzle platformer.

So far, I've beaten the first set of levels at least enough to move on to the next set of levels and I have to say the levels are excellently crafted and each one is unique with challenging puzzles that the player must overcome. It also feels really satisfying when you beat a level you've been stuck on or if you finally understand what you have to do to complete a puzzle.

The people who are raging at this game don't actually grasp the real meaning of this game. It is a puzzle game and requires thinking and time to play. That is what a puzzle game is.

Sure the game has a few flaws and some of the levels are a little bit vague but I think that's what the creator wanted. The levels are supposed to be very difficult and abstract.

Overall this game deserves more respect considering it is a truly unique indie puzzle game that gives you an amazing experience. 4.5/5 stars!

An amazing series of exploratative puzzles, and one of the best uses of design space that I can recall.

The game itself is difficult to explain. Its a first person wasd + mouse control scheme with only 4 additional forms of input. Fire, jump, restart, and exit. These functions change slightly from level to level. Sometimes you might not be able to jump, sometimes you might be able to fly, sometimes your fire button does... something entirely different.

There is very little in the sense of hints (usually you have the name of a level and a single short sentence with which to build your guesses). This can be a boon or a curse depending on how quickly you pick up the goal of a stage.

The game is somewhat simplistic visually, but handles its setting and theme very well. With its otherwordly sound track, constant visual tricks, and a very novel approach to death (there technically isn't any), I felt very much like some sort of nethermancer seeking to accumulate souls for whatever purpose a nethermancer soul searches.

I very much suggest purchasing this game, I've already bought several copies for friends. It's a game you don't want to miss.

I intend to go back and revise this review once I've completed a bigger portion of the game.

The primary appeal of this game is that you don't really get any instructions. There isn't a tutorial. The faint text "clues" you see are vague and often irrelevant. You're dropped into a starter level to get a hands-on grasp of the controls, and then you get access to a hub with a set of stages, which can be accessed in any order, and you don't have to beat all of them to unlock the next hub. Different levels may share similar themes or structure, but each is technically an isolated instance that must be deciphered. You don't know whether you're just getting from A to B, activating switches, etc. until you try it and find out.

It's a weird game, but if you are interested in exploration and puzzle-solving with a heavy emphasis on trial and error, this is worth a try.

The controls are very straightforward: move, jump, and click (which usually functions as "shoot") the platforming is important, but it's in service of solving the puzzles.

There is a very ominous aesthetic at work. The sights and sounds seem designed to keep you on edge. Some of the levels are calm and quite beautiful, but others have harsh designs that make you wonder if there are unseen dangers that may be revealed as you progress.

As of this writing, I'm working on the second hub, but I made the mistake of starting the game while I had a headache, and I had to stop earlier than I would've liked. I'll revisit this one soon.
